Make your screen colour representation accurate - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

so I was reading a test done comparing iPhone 5 with the note 2. according to the findings, once you such display mode to movie and unchecked auto adjust picture tone to save battery- the contrast ratio, whiteness level and all color errors are all improved drastically. I must concur because I have notice a much better colours rep and the whites do look a bit better aswell.

Hahahah. To brilliant u say. I duno I like how my whites look on the movie setting. On standard I get tainted reddish white

I would like a reference picture to compare against. Maybe the original is that bright.

EDIT now that i think about it the pictures should all look the same on the PC since it is that phone that is changing the color and nothing changes on the picture right? so even though i took screen shots of each one at each screen mode, will that color variation be visible on the screen shot or only if im veiwing it on the phone.

They all look the same. Main reason why i prefer movie to natural is the skin color. It looked much more natural. Also the contrast ratio increases on the movie mode.

Swear I was thinking the same thing lol.
I wouldnt have bought a Amoled screen if i wanted accurate colors. But good find to those that want.

The positive is that Samsung Note 2 actually allows you to choose which color representation you prefer.
Also, I don't think the color resolution is stored in the captured screen shot image. It's just how the image is displayed on your Note2. That's why each photo you uploaded looks the same. of course I'm usually wrong on these type of things.

I prefer to use Natural. But I wish we had some control over the screen temperature. I prefer my screen a little cooler than what it's currently displaying.

I was stating id like to see the demo image outside of my phone. See what the original colors looks like, pale vs bright yellows. That would help me decide what looks most "natural"

****WARNING****
You have one of the most advanced screens ever put in a phone. Its so visually pleasing others may stair with envy, some will comment on its beauty while trying to touch it, a rare few might even complain its just to brilliant (giggle). For your convenience we have added the option to dull it down to a level of your choice so you might better blend in with the rest of the crowd holding dull looking screens.

Also brightness was set to max.
With brightness set to max, I found "Movie" to give the best picture. However, I never have brightness set to max - usually automatic. I found "Movie" a bit dull at lower levels, but I'm used to it now, and there will be less screen burn-in, and blue burn-out. We have three-year contracts in Canada, and I don't want to have noticeable OLED burn-in and loss of blue after a couple of years ...

Definitely takes some getting used to for Movie but while not as perky colored, I quite enjoy this subdued tone. In the end, having choices is great.

set iso to 100 and you'll see perfect pictures
samsung purposely sets high iso under automatic settings to keep a fast shutter time, this sacrifices picture quality

I took my GS2 to a punk rock show in a very low lit club and took some pictures and video of the band. My buddy took his iPhone 4 (not 4s) and took some pics and video as well. All of his pics and most of his video made mine look total ****! In bright light our cameras are very good, but in low light I am sickened with this phone!

tbh I've been wondering the same thing as the OP.
I had high expectations for our phone's camera with reviews and sample pics that I saw beforehand, but have not been able to achieve half decent pics... especially in low-light conditions! If anyone has managed to find some settings that work best, please share!
A phone, no matter how much you pay, should not be a substitute for an actual camera. This holds true especially for planned events. This camera is perfect for high quality pictures and videos during unexpected moments.
You know, I feel quite the fool in that my wife has generally taken most of the pics with my phone so far, and I've only been repeating her concerns and haven't really experimented with the can much myself.
What I have found is, like it was mentioned before, setting the ISO to 100 is important. Next is finding a scene that works well with what you're taking a pic of (I have found that party mode really makes colours pop). Also metering can be adjusted to change the center of focus. But so far I've been happy with these settings...
Anyone else have any tips or favourite settings they use?

You can do it with friend caster photo editor. And I agree brother,it looks horrible.
FROM A GALAXY BETTER THAN YOURS.
That's what we like to call over-cooked HDR. You can pretty much do the same thing by adding one of those old school filters or a yellow tint filter and pushing up the contrast and saturation. It's pretty much used as a distraction for bad composition
Does anyone know its this is an Android or iPhone app for this framing effect?

Why does the SGS3s screen look better than the GNexs when its the same Super SAMOLED?

It's as if the colors and the screen pops more up while ours looks great but not as popped up and more in depth and concave sort of way. As if there is a grainy screen that's all like gauss covering the screen. Why did they opt for a cheaper crappier screen on the GNex?

Yes, the SGS3's screen is also pentile, note the lack of plus at the end of Super AMOLED HD.
Different colour profile, different Q/A requirements (Have you noticed that there is very little black in touchwizz UX, maybe to avoid the low brightness blacks become purple issue).
Tweaks made to the panels and manufacturing process after doing them in blunk for the gnexus?
All of the above?
Your guess is as good as mine

Anyway, I have had my phone next to my friends S3 and with the color tweaks on the GNEX I did not notice any difference. Stock GNEX screen, sure it looks horrible. My GNEX looks 10x better then any stock GNEX screen as well.
I would say quality control. Samsung took the time to perfect the S3's colors. I love my screen and it's vibrant and all that. Granted I've never compared the two.

Agreed.
Believe it or not there is a point where too much saturation is bad. It starts to look entirely unnatural. I'm happy where the saturation levels are at with my Nexus currently, still more vibrant than any LCD screen, but not to the point where everything looks like someone took the saturation dial and cranked it to max.

S3 Screen

I don't know much about differences in screen besides what DPI and resolution is, but yesterday I was looking at some pictures and icons on my S3 and iPod 4gen and I noticed that the iPod screen was much much brighter than the S3. And because of that I was able to distinguish gradients and textures better.
So my question is, is the screen on the S3 dimmer than on purpose or is my screen defective.
-- just in case anyone was wondering I had both devices on full brightness.
--something I noticed was that if I put the iPod at half brightness, then that would be about as bright as my S3 on FULL brightness.

Edit: oops I see that you did. I dunno take it to a store and compare your screen to another s3.
-Sent from my GS3 running CM10.-
Yes. The screen is dimmer. Samsung cut the maximum display power to 1.3 watts allowing for a longer battery life because of how big the screen is. Also has to do with the candelas per sq inch on a screen.

You are comparing apples to oranges. The S3 uses samoled+, which presents blacks much deeper and whites so so. This makes for brighter whites and not so deep whites on the crapples devices giving the illusion of brighter screens. Just like comparing a plasma to an LCD. Yes there is an app to make the screen brighter, and you must be rooted. Just install the app and run it, must be clicked once per boot to work as it runs a command in the interactive shell.
Thread cleaned a bit.
Always fond of this saying: "Work the problem, not each other."
Has anybody else used that apk? Does it work? I don't want to mess up my brightness levels using it. I should be able to reboot and go back to normal but still cautious about trying it.

These are amoled displays and with amoled displays after say 3 years of use you get something called "burn in" which make the blue LED lights get dim and dimmer over time which causes the screen to have an off look. You cau can prevent this by keeping your phone on low brightness and changing the screen style to "movie" which reduces the saturation of the colors. Even high end devices like the Note 2 will be eventually affected by this
