HTC IME_mod for One X? - HTC One X

Hi all,
Loving my brand new HOX so far!
The only issue I'm having is with its big screen: the modded HTC IME keyboard doesn't size! :-( See screenshot...
It's the only keyboard I've ever loved, it did _exactly_ what I wanted it to do, and haven't seen a keyboard ever coming close to it. I can't really believe I'm the first one asking this question or I must have seriously miss-searched.
The original HTC IME is pretty good as well, however the main "feature" I love about the modded one is because of its gestures which allow me to quickly switch between the full and T9 kbds so I can text in the car with one hand and without looking at it as much.
Any chances of getting it to size correctly? It's useless this way (I don't have large fingers but I'm not a 1yr-old either ). That would just make me REALLY happy!!
Thanks!

I've also wondered about this, I'd give it a go but I'm clueless when it comes to this lol

wouldn't even know where to start I really do hope someone figures it out...

I had a Desire with the mod and I loved it ! Its was perfect because of all the flashing of different roms I did. Really hope it gets resized to one x !

This is no different from the stock HTC keyboard on the One X - bar the colour - unless I'm really missing something

lol do you really think I'd be wining a whole post without just for a different colour? Why don't you press its Settings button -or even just read the OP- and try to reply again?

So you're missing the gestures? Is that it? Hardly worth it IMO. If it was I'm sure someone would've done it already
You tried using Swype? Or even HTC's version of it? Works well, and means no swapping to old school keyboards

Really, no disrespect, but as I stated it's just the feature [as in of the many] I like the most, and I just hate dictionaries (no, it's not a matter of time).. I'm kinda just hoping for some helpful input

[Rant] Why get a Desire if you don't like Sense UI?

There are so many people and so many topics on how to "Disable Sense". Why get a Desire if you don't like Sense?
I mean, fair enough if this was a hero but the Desire and the Nexus are pretty much exactly the same phone. If you don't like Sense then get a nexus.
Rant Over.
I Spent Months Hopping between Laggy, unfinished Sense ROM's on my G1 just so I could have the Style of it Even happier now I have it with a 1Ghz Processor
But yeah, Seems odd to buy a desire then want to remove the Sense UI, Like buying a Red car and wanting it Sprayed blue.
don't suppose you considered the nexus one is more expensive and not yet availible (easily) in the uk.

Most people on here bought the phone unlocked.
For those who are on contracts, the Nexus will be on vodafone soon and will (apparently) also be free. Why not wait, it will only be a few weeks...

So why buy something that you don't really want or not happy with? I understand its easier to get a Desire then a Nexus, but would you really buy one if its not what you want? There are Better options out there if you really want Eclair 2.1, Not buy a Sense UI phone and try to Remove the key aspects of it.

Maybe people do really want the phone, or a N1, but don't want sense. Why do you think that they have to stay together, that having one means having the other? Did you ever run the default Window Mobile ROM/Shell/Applications for the life of the device when you (likely, given the forum) owned a WM handset?
I don't really like the look of sense, and I'm likely going to disable it on my Desire. The Desire also has (slightly) more RAM, those hardware buttons, and the optical trackpad. All three things I prefer over the N1. Only downside is the lack of second mic..
I got my desire for free on a £15/mo 24mo contract. There's no way I could get a Nexus One today on T-Mobile with the contract I have.

cause i'm already locked to an orange contract maybe?
I love Sense but I understand those who bought the Desire but want to get rid of Sense. Nexus One is only available (officially) in the US, UK, Singapore and Hong-Kong. Where I live the Nexus One can be bought from some online stores but it costs 100 euros more than the Desire.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to put down anyone who has done this, I just don't get the point. What exactly is wrong with sense, it actually improves Android. Why go so far to remove it from a phone which has Sense included, If you're that bothered get a Nexus One, or wait for something else to come on the market.
Not only that, remove all HTC Widgets from the homescreen and replace them with google ones and all you have is a launcher which is exactly the same as the "Vanilla" one except having a themed task launcher.

i still use sense as i preffer the sense widgets etc just hate the bar across the bottom, and if it is easy to remove sense surely its better to save some money, and remove it?
what a bloody stupid question. as you say the phones are almost identical, the desire is free for most people and disabling sence is easy so of course people are going to get the desire. if they don't like since, they'll ask how to remove it. now go and find something to occupy your mind so things like this don't wind you up.

Well ignoring the fact that I like the buttons on the Desire, and the trackpad, over the N1s ball and touch buttons.. for a second.
The Nexus One is on Expansys for £584.99 right now. So that's exactly £584.99 more than I paid for the Desire, which I like more than the Nexus One, hardware wise anyway. I'd have to have a contract with a carrier for a decent data plan as it is, so I may as well get the 'free' handset.
So why wouldn't I get the Desire and run stock Android on it, like a Nexus One. If that's the UI I prefer?

yep same story for me spend near £600 on a nexus 1 or spend £400 on a desire which can easily be modded to be the same as a nexus 1

its more that i get annoyed that people are willing to have a go at people for their own personal preference
Its the same for me, nexus only available through black market for a steep price and the desire is freely available. Have to say i don't hate Sense, but being able to run the basic homescreen is fun as well.
The same goes vice versa, n1 users that want sense on their phone but didn't wait for the desire.
Sometimes people choose a phone because its available sooner or looks better in their opinion, it doesn't mean they have to "love" the interface that comes along with it. Thats the point of android, tweak and change it to whatever the hell you want.
I like Sense UI, but I can understand why people who don't still want the Desire over the Nexus One, even if you don't count the price and availability.
For a start its similar hardware to the Nexus One but it isn't identical. The "real" buttons are better on the Desire, I don't like those non-button touch sensitive buttons on the Nexus One. The Desire has the optical pad rather than a track ball.
Second, if you could disable Sense on the Desire you would have a choice of either and could switch at will. I say "if" because I don't seem to be able to disable Sense on mine, but that's another story.
But to really sum things up, here is a quote from the Desire page on HTC's website:
Make It Mine
With the HTC Desire, it’s all about your information, your entertainment, your multimedia … your way

Perhaps it should read "your way... as long as your way is to use Sense".
Android was designed so that you could install alternatives for pretty much every part, it was considered an important fundamental goal in the design. I don't think that choosing a phone that includes Sense should have to mean sacrificing that core philosophy. Its all about choice, right?

[Q] Where are all the trackpads?!

So, i know this really isnt quite the right place...but what ever...So i've been using the incredible for over a year now, and i've gotten really used to the trackpad; I love it. But i've noticed on most new phones, atleast the verizon ones, theres no trackpad!? What happened HTC?! so i was wondering, when flashing a rom with clockwork on a phone with no trackpad, how do you scroll? do you have to use the volume buttons? there are other issues with no trackpad...like the fatfinger selection, sometimes you go to click something, but its so close to another thing you click the other thing instead...does anyone else love the trackpad? this is kind of a big issue for me...i really love my dinc, but kinda want 4g and front facing camera (and has to be a htc phone; i like the home button where it is!!!) faster cpu would be nice too..but any way...i just wanted to vent and see if anyone else has put thought into this...i mean the dinc is a great phone, and with new roms coming out all the time(been running NilsP Business gingersense andro2.3.3 with sense 3.0) it can stay uptodate pretty well, but only on the software side...ok..i'm done...
You should have vented in the General Section. This doesn't contribute at all to any development.
If I've helped you, hit the thanks button!
Wrong section.
Don't hold me on this, but I think the HTC Desire Z/T-Mobile G2 was the last HTC phone with a trackpad..
edit: MyTouch series, also..
Hope a mod moves this to general.
I completely agree. I find the trackpad extremely useful at times. Without even thinking about it I go right to it.
The truth is the DInc is getting older. Although I have had it for two years and still f'n love it, its time will be up. There are many amazing and powerful phones coming out and its just gonna get better. Personally, I'm looking at the HTC Vigor or Samsung Droid Prime as my next device. They seem to me the only Verizon phones that could possibly live up to the Incredible legacy.

+1. Don't use it, need it, or want it.
Trackball, yes. (Droid Eris)
Optical trackpad? No. Awful.
Volume keys work fine in recovery. And you can't get a hair stuck in them which causes your homescreen to scroll like crazy.

Oh man don't get me started on track balls... Those things suck... Do you know how many of those things fall out?!!? I've had the Samsung omnia (windows based smart phone) It was my first optical trackpad, damn thing was great even could change it to a mouse which was pretty cool...then moved to a moto droid, no trackpad of any kind until you open the kb, horrible design in my opinion. And how are you supposed to "hover" over a video(like on Bing) so it plays? I can hover over it with my trackpad with out opening it.

[Q] Coming from the G2 need opinions

Well hello everyone, iv been on the forums for a while, not posting much but reading alot! iv used the great vault of information here to root my G2 and have loved it ever since...but along came the SGS2
Now I really want this phone as iv had mine for while, my biggest and I mean HUGE problem is no physical keyboard. as a texting maniac I push 10k a month or more, so much I can type without looking at my keyboard.
Everything about the SGS2 is an upgrade from my phone except the keyboard.
Will the 4.52inch screen help me with the on screen or should I wait for a dual core with qwerty?
I also program and develop custom kernels, and other misc things,
thanks to luckyduck I have the dump file from the SGS2, but no phone for testing or finding exploits
biggest question, losing my keyboard is the SGS2 worth it?? thanks guys
I wait for a dual core with qwerty
theres already a MT4G slide

Yes i had a Mytouch 3g slide, G2, Mytouch 4g and I can save the bigger the phone the easier it is to type. I personally find the virtual keyboard better now. The best keyboard of choice would be swiftkey X my favorite. I pretty much only press space and type whole conversations with people.

Thanks for the help, I did see swiftkey X but havnt used it before, is it really that easy?
I also beta test the latest Swype all the time on my G2 and I love it when I have to use the on screen. im slowly on my way to buying this
I also faced this dilemma back when I switched from an E71 to touch phones. Swype is awesome once you get the hang of it, very fast. I find myself using the Swype keyboard meanwhile switching to the Samsung one every now and then.
The newest swype update is better and its only getting better, u dont even have to press space anymore when typing its so nice..

SwiftKey x keyboard reads your facebook, sms, rss, twitter, and gmail account google chats included. It learns the way you type. I like it there are other keyboards out there which are more customizable then swift key. I had a g2 and first thing I noticed I hardly ever used the hardware keyboard. It took some time to get use to only virtual keyboard but eventually you will be used to it. I advise you to try out different keyboards one will be to your liking. I was a hardware keyboard only guy. You can always return it if you don't like it. In the end. It's all personal preferences.
Well I have always been a physical keyboard person so it will be a big adjustment for me, trying the on screen on my 3.7inch G2 didnt work so well, but I really think that the 4.52 on the SGS2 will really help and of course ill have swype and maybe try the swiftkey X aswell.
I really hope if I go down and buy it, I dont get plagued by the Vertical Line issue thats come up now.
Thanks for the input guys i'm really leaning towards the SGS2 now, if CM is confirmed for development on this, I know a few on the team then im totally Sold and will start my programming up to make it the best!
g2 is the best phone i ever had!! I moved to gs2 and I Love it!

Swype in HOX?

I am pretty sure I read somewhere that the HOX should have had Swype as standard from HTC! Was that just a rumor, or something else?

HOX, as you name it , comes with so called Trace keyboard. It should take up swype (but having never used that particular keyboard i can't give you a direct comparison though)
In Language & Keyboard go into HTC Sense Input and turn Trace Keyboard on. I use it and love it
Ok, I see! It feels a little like Swype, let's see if I can live with that!

Trace keyboard is pretty similar, but I still can't figure out if there is an equivalent to the Swype key to correct incorrect words after you have already gone past them. I suppose I should just look at the words while I am entering them, but the ability to type out a message than correct all the mistakes on a second pass was pretty nice.

Well HOX, its been a great 2 weeks..

..but you're being replaced by the Droid Pro+, a slower, uglier, bulkier phone with a low rez screen.
Even by looking at the picture, you can see how horrible the screen on the Pro is compared to the HOX but that doesnt matter. I need my phone to reply back to texts, jot down notes, and input things in my calendar and i feel that the best, and quickest way to do this would be on a phone with physical keys. Oh and it feels great to have my four menu keys back.
I dont know what it is but i just couldnt get use to the on screen keyboard. Even using different keyboards(swiftkeys, ics keyboard, thumb keyboard, etc) i just found it really frustrating. I still think the iphone has by far the best onscreen keyboard.
Anyways, im not entirely putting the HOX out of comission, I still might use it as a weekend phone but as my daily driver, I'll be using the Pro+ until Motorola releases a better version.
Oh and one more thing..I've been a Treo user for the longest time so I just think I'm just bias towards phones with physical keyboards haha

Swype is much better than the iphone keyboard
After going from Sony Ericsson P900 to htc tytn ii to htc touch pro, I didn't think I could ever go without physical keyboard. I was wrong. Once you get used to it, an onscreen keyboard is much faster and definitely more productive because of it.

And why is that? Cause im not praising the hox? Cause im not saying how awesome it is and how it trumps any other phone out there right now? Im not bashing the phone in anyway, im simply saying that its not for me as a daily driver. It an awesome phone and its a beautiful built phone but as a daily driver, its not ideal for me.
Like i said, im not gonna stop using it complelty, im already missing the size of that screen but as other people stated, swype makes it easier to type on? Hell i might give it a shot.

My wife had the same issue when she went from a real keyboard to an on-screen one.
However, after trying various different one we have settled on Swiftkey 3 beta and now she would never go back.
Give it a little longer and you will see the benefits, hopefully.
Have you tried the keyboard on the 9900? It is heads and tails above any other keyboard I have used the this swift key is the second best.

I stated that this phone was hard for me to adjust to and so far, a few people have actually recommended certain keyboards to try out. They're actually being pretty helpful come to think of it.

No, because this is the XDA Developers forum, not Facebook. These forums are for interesting topics that are informative and useful, not someone's personal opinion about whether a physical keyboard is better than a software one. This forum is for that.
I don't mean to cause offence, but there are A LOT of these kind of threads.
@Op,
Another boring thread about the HOX being bad....
How many of these threads has been opened?
If you don't like it go to the machine you like to my opinion but stop cluttering the board and bother us with this BS.
Post is in the wrong section as well, if you are so full of keyboards and Droid Pro+ you should have tried XDA General section to hit a 'wider audience' with your 'experience'.
Pffff... bye!
OP, for lack of a kinder way to phrase it, and the fact it's been a long day...
Shutup.
If you want to point out serious issues, ways the community can help you with that, then by all means that is what XDA is for.
What it isn't for....is to write a tribute to your One X, saying goodbye to it because you don't like the keyboard.
You can do that in private, just hold it up and say goodbye.
enough with these stupid stupid threads, really the worst part about the HOX
its good reviews and coverage attracted too many newbies to "try" it out
you know i made too new decisions i will never ever again advice and apple fan to buy or try an android...seriously i want me, my family and my friends to enjoy it all on our own
I LOVE MY HTC ONE X

Are you deluding yourself or just not reading the responses?
And... You specified that even with 3rd party keyboards you were not happy so why would I suggest keyboards?
This thread was simply you trolling. I know it, you know it, even the people who were politely making suggestions probably knew it. What kind souls with such humility. Not me, I call it as I see it.
Yet again another pointless thread that will be closed by the mods.
If I don't like anything about ANY phone I have I don't broadcast it to the nation I try and find a solution to the problem. If I can't find one I'll live with it. No doubt there are things you don't like on your replacement, are you gonna broadcast to the world again and get another phone?
Please mods close the thread.
