I was wondering if anyone had insurance through their carrier? Telekom here in Germany offers it for 100 euros out right and you pay 10 percent of what the phone is worth.. I passed on it but after hearing people having some issues I was wondering if I should go back to the store and sign up for it. I suppose I could always use the nexus s I have laying around incase something happens to my x

If there a difference between warranty and insurance? Because I heard if you root the phone you will lose the warranty... Anyway I'm from Canada and when I search on ebay.com and amazon.com I'm only seeing int version "no warranty" so I have to choice to buy it with no warranty for 550$ or to buy it from amazon.co.uk for 700$ with a warranty but I don't really see the point since I want to root my phone... I'm a bit worried if the issues start after the 30 day return delay T_T
Well the insurance is directly from the phone carrier and you deal solely through them plus I think they cover accidentally damage. The warranty through HTC would just cover things that might become faulty?

I just bought a 7£ silicone case to take all the psychical damage, had the same case for my desire and it worked just perfect! For hardware damage I'm counting on my insurance company is gonna pay
I have phone insurance with my Bank account in the UK, much cheaper.
It's worth getting insurance. Especially if you root. Anything goes wrong you "had it stolen".

Over here in Australia insurance payments generally add up to about half the cost the phone (sometimes even more, depending on the phone and when you purchase it). So I find it a waste of money. Besides, in my over 12+ years of using phones I haven’t had any serious mishaps (hope it stays that way).

What kind of issues are you referring to ? All hardware faults (display issues, overheating, WiFi issues etc.) should already be covered under warranty. Insurance is needed if you want protection against theft, lost or accidents. However, if the phone breaks due to poor build quality (e.g: the shell or the display cracking due to bad design, buttons stop responding etc..) then claiming warranty will be hard because its is difficult to prove , in that case insurance could come in handy.
if im not mistaken insurance covers your phone for anything...
even if u hard-bricked it as its independent of htc's warrenty
and there is no need for the phone is stolen blahblahblah
bank account insurance sucks ****, the best insurance is with your carrier and the only 2 carriers that I know provide good insurance is Vodafone and O2 both give you replacement if you accidence damage your phone, drop it, lost or stolen
Yes. I have.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
they offered it to me indeed, I had it on my last phone, but now I just bought a case to protect it from damage and skipped on the insurance.
I didnt think i would need it with my HTC Desire and passed but on my One X, this is too great of an investment to not take out insurance.

Who do you recommend? Experience based on claims, thanks
obviously this one is kinda limited - but vodafone insurance have always been the best for me. had to claim twice before on my old sony ericsson, first time it got stolen, they sent me the replacement pretty much next day.
second time i was answering the phone, and as i brought it up to my ear, it slipped, went over my head and straight into a pan of gravy
still worked afterwards, except for the antenna was ruined and although it could get signal in places, it couldn't at all in weaker signal areas (places where it previously could get signal)
so i took it into a vodafone store, and they gave me a new one there and then. even let me keep the old one as it had all my stuff on it still.
one to keep away from, is natwest advantage gold phone insurance. they suck. altogether took about 3 weeks before i had another phone.
dropped my dhd, screen smashed. so they wanted to send it in for repair first. several days later they said it was BER, and a new handset would be issued.
so they sent a new handset, but instead of sending it to my address (which i had told them several times, and once even corrected them because they had the complete wrong address for me) they went and sent it to the local natwest branch.
so i called them up (at which point i didn't know it was at the natwest branch) and they said ok we'll send another.
In the meantime, i did some googling, and found out that this '5 high street' (previous address they somehow had for me) was actually the branch, so i went down there to get it. after some security questions etc, i got the phone.
Sorted I thought... Nope in fact it wasn't
a couple of days later, the phone had been reported stolen (by insurance company) and it was blacklisted, couldn't get any sims to work in it.
The next handset never actually arrived!!!!!!! They sent yet another one, which actually came to my address, and I had to send the old one back. (before they would send the new one out)
So basically, unless you're confident it won't go tits up like that, don't bother with a banks phone insurance. I promptly changed back to vodafone insurance after that incident. A bit more costly, but well worth it.
Not sure about any Insurance companies apart from Vodafone's sucky p.o.s Insurance. It used to be really good but then they changed to a new company a few years bac. Heres my experience with them.
I used to have Vodafone Insurance and they changed to a new company, cant remember their name but they were useless and way more stricter than the last company. The deliveries would arrive late, they offered to replace my faulty HTC HD2 with a HTC Wildfire or some rubbish Wildfire. I said I wanted a Desire at the least, they wouldn't up it to anything else.
When the Desire arrived it was just a refurbished Wildfire in a generic Vodafone box. I complained and got an exchange and received a brand new Desire. I also made a complaint about the Insurance company, about how much they suck ****.
I then received a letter from Vodafone saying My Insurance has been cancelled and that if I take out any further Insurances, they will also be cancelled.
The only reason I'm still with Vodafone is that i have a friend who works for them and he always sorts out any problems I have, e.g. 24 month is getting too long for me and I want it shortened to 12 months, no problem. ;p
I use the insurance with my Barclays account which costs me £7 per month. Also gives me RAC breakdown. Excess in phone claims is £25 and when I've used them in the past they had a couple of week turnaround. Worth it for me.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA
I'm currently using CUSC Foneguard, but i've never claimed, so I have no idea how happy I am to use them. £5 a month but that means nothing...and I see a clause in the T&Cs is no cover for "negligent use", which could mean any accident damage.
If your in the UK check your bank account benefits a lot of accounts cine with free mobile insurance as standard,I use mine all the time only had to claim once but no issues

to be honest, every insurance company has a bad review on the internet, as the people who were successful in their claim have the new handset and couldn't care less vs the people who were refused, went mental (rightfully) and went to the internet to complain about it.
True, but i'd like to see some good reviews lol

Mine's on my home contents insurance, with accidental damage, new replacement and cover away from home. The whole lot's under £15 quid a month, with the NFU, which includes contents. My student son is with Endsleigh, who charge about £7per month, to include laptop insurance too and are taking ages to sort out his drowned one x replacement whilst they ascertain whether the phone was submerged in a highball tumbler or not!
I wouldn't pay extra for separate cover; not when my policy is as good as it is and it covers everything and they don't quibble.

Protect your bubble has good reviews online, surprisingly, although these are most if not all, based on registering, not claims.
esure cover both my one x and my wifes sensation included in our building and contents insurance for £15/month (all in) - it's thrown in with most policies these days under items away from the home. Covered for accidental, loss and theft.
Only problem is £100 excess. But when you consider that an additional policy will be at LEAST £60/year over and above and will likely have it's own excess of at LEAST £30 it's a no brainer not to bother.
Hope this helps.
How does insurance with a bank work exactly? im 99% sure i have mobile goods insurance with my account which includes laptop, phone, sat nav etc and covers against accidental damage, theft and loss.
But as far as im aware ive never had to register any of these goods with the bank, so if i were more devious i could pay the £50 excess and get a brand new laptop or phone or whatever very cheap after claiming it to be lost even though i didnt own the product in the first place.
I wont, because im good at heart but i wonder how many false claims actually go through every day from criminal masterminds
When I had Barclays additions with my bank account, I was required to register the devices with the insurance company, or I wasn't covered. When they upped it to £6.50, for no good reason, I checked with the home contents insurance policy. I have specified items with it now and its far better value.
Banks often charge up to £15 a Month and unless the customer benefits, it's just a good way to make more money.

I dropped my phone and destroyed the screen, still worked but the screen was shattered and cracked real bad. First phone I ever broke from my own negligence.
I called and requested a new phone and was sent a refurb. After making it clear I was not accepting a refurb and wanted a new one it was sent to me.
I am glad I did since I am now seeing threads on problems with the refurbs. I have had nothing but trouble with them so far; between a droid 2 global and an env touch I received close to two dozen bad phones that were refurbished.
Is there another insurance company that is more willing to take care of their customers? An insurance company that cares about its customers; I know. But I am looking for other options or companies.
I always keep the insurance/extended warranty on all of my phones but all that is ever sent is a phone what was broken and sent back already. I think its a rip off to have a deductible and monthly payment unless there is a new phone to replace the phone I purchased new.
Any input or thoughts? Suggestions on other insurance plans?
Honestly, there is nothing wrong with refurbs. I had a hardware revision .10 Gnex originally, and I messed it up and wouldn't boot. I got Verizon to send me a new one at no cost to me and it's hardware revision .09 but it is identical to my original phone. No need to stigmatize refurbished phones... Half of the refurbs have never even been touched by another owner.
If you get into a car accident you pay the deductible and get your car repaired. Not a brand new car. So, you dropped your USED phone and you think you should get a brand new one from the insurance company? pfft.... If that were the case every asshole would be dropping their phones at the 8 month mark to scam a brand new one. I'm rooting for the insurance company on this one.
good day.
Insurance =brand new phone and u pay the deductible.
Warranty =refurbished phone for free
So did u go through insurance or the warranty as Verizon will not honor user error, ie breaking the screen

Insurance such as Asurion is typically a refurb replacement and is not obligated to send a new phone as a replacement. For that matter, it doesn't even necessarily have to be the same model or manufacturer that they replace it with.

The first time, ask for a new phone, not a refurb.
You're complaining they don't take good care of you when they sent you two phones when they were only obligated to send you one?

Second paragraph first sentence. Haters gonna hate.
Was curious about different options on insurance (not me) and peoples experiences with refub gnexes. I do not know who does the refurb but I personally went through plenty of them with laundry lists of issues.
Maybe samsung does a good job with QC while motorola does not. Broken camera on a the first refurb Droid 2 Global is a perfect example.
Usually, I'm the last person to complain about warranty issues but Samsung has literally just pushed me over the edge!
After something went awry with my phone, and my screen cracked from the inside/stopped working, I called them up and they asked me to send in pictures of the damage and was promptly told that the issue would be covered by my warranty. I sent my phone in and awaited repairs but today I was contacted by "Service Absolute", a Samsung authorized warranty service provider; they told me that my warranty was void due to physical damage and that repairs on my device would cost..... get this......
$310.54!!!!
I've asked for my phone back without repairs and I guess I'll be forced to sell it for peanuts
Sorry for the crazy rant, I know there's not much I or anyone else can do about this situation, just needed to vent.

As someone who works in insurance ( homeowners/renters/auto) I have to say the the prices charged for insurance on a phone are outrageous. The price paid for the insurance for the value of the item being insured is totally out of whack when it comes to phones and is a complete ripoff.
complaining about you cracking your screen and it not being covered?
c'mon now
I guess the irony there is someone joking about faking an insurance claim on a phone, and someone two posts later saying how the insurance costs too much. Guess it's a messed up world all over!
I can't stomach the wasted money monthly myself, figure if the worst happens I'll just replace on my own. It helps having a family plan with an upgrade ready to go if needed in worst case.

Never insure something you can easily afford to replace. Insurance only purpose is to transfer risk to someone else for replacement. When the cost outweighs the benefits then it becomes not worth it.

If u ever download a rom it says in the developers disclaimer usually
Your warranty is now void.
But u can always just turn it in and say the malfunctions of the phone are (make up some excuse, even though u bricked it) Now There is a counter inside the phone
It'll show you when you boot into download mode.
Flashing things through Odin trip the counter
Well u will either be charged the deductible or u wont be??
So would u lie for a new phone??
some people believe in lying for this and some people dont mind....
Thanks a lot man but I wasn't asking about the warranty as I am not paying for that.. I was asking about the insurance coverage...coz I will be paying around $10 each month for it.. so just wanted to be sure that if the phone gets bricked, the screen shatters or whatever goes wrong...will they be able to cover it even if its rooted...

It's $11.99 per month. The Tmobile guy told me I can only buy it right there at the store only when I bought the device. Once I leave, I won't be able to buy it, not sure he is BS or not. He said I can always cancel it later once I leave but cannot add it back on. Thus, I added it since I plan to odin/root and all that stuff.
The caveat: Tmobile guy said you have to pay $5 deductible for defective phone (looks normal but not behaving normally) or $175 deductible for any other reasons for the life of that phone such as physical damage, lost, water, stolen (including brick - if I bricked it, I'll just tell them I lost it)

Thanks for letting me know about this. It seems like a great value $99 for 2 year but does not cover loss or theft. I'll use it on my other phone. There is a $99 deductible. It does cover water damage...so if I brick this I guess I'll just pour water over it and pay $99 to get a new one. Is there anyway to claim for loss or theft on SquareTrade?
$99 (24 months excluding loss and theft)

Why do people always confuse insurance with warranty? Insurance covers everything. You could brick your phone, shatter the screen, or drop it in the toilet and you just pay the deductible and get a new one. Or if your phone gets lost or stolen it is also covered

So what's the point of paying for squaretrade?? We already have Samsungs warranty for free? This isn't INSURANCE this is WARRANTY. Good point. I saw the $8 earlier but it was greyed out so I thought it is no longer available to this phone...however if I click the insurance tab, it is no longer greyed out...so it is available to tmo s4 still. This $8 is good. Even though it does not cover malfunction, I think that can easily be resolved... If I bricked it, I'll just say it is stolen...bam...I can still get a replacement. The Tmo guy at the store tried to sell me the $12, I guess I'll just have to call them tomorrow to switch to this $7.79 one.
So now, it's
$6 (no loss of theft)
$99 deductible

$8 (not the $12) tmobile insurance still cover loss and theft except malfunction (but does cover loss or theft, lol)
$175 deductible

So now, it's
$6 (no loss of theft)
$99 deductible

If it's malfunction you can get a warranty exchange. And if you brick it you should still be able to to the claim. Insurance is for you so if you **** up your phone (brick, water damage, broken screen) you can pay a deductible and get a new phone. And i wouldn't report it stolen, I jeard if you report stolen you have to have a police report ( don't quote me on that). I lost my S3 once on a drunken night and just filed a claim the next day as lost. Got a new one the next day.

Hrm...interesting. Ok, note to self don't use Stolen excuse. Use LOST as universal excuse (including hard brick) I like the lost or stolen option since I may lose it at crowded places/parties and about to travel international country (might get pick pocket)
squaretrade covers everything Accidental Damage from Handling coverage even that!, if u read the agreement when u sign up u get that.
Samsung Galaxy S 4 Black 4/29/2013 2 years with ADH, thats costing me less then 6.00. Im not sure about the theft or loss
As we won't have uh ho insurance in UK, can anyone recommend a good phone insurance policy that ignores rooted/modified phones inline with HTC's warranty?
What are HTC like generally when fixing phones (speed/cost)? Thanks

From my experience with the Desire, Desire S and M8 with HTC repairs... they are fast and accurate, very understanding, but they are very expensive with repairs. HTC phones are EXTREMELY fragile for metal damage and especially with water damage. My second M8 unit had a broken screen, HTC charged me £120 for it. At which time, the full phone itself was only worth £80-100 max.

I just have insurance through my bank, £10 a month get phone insurance with £30 excess (no mention of rooted or not) Nd various other goodies
My insurance is with EE, my provider. They do a 24hr replacement service where you just swap your old phone for a new one with the courier and if the claim is made before 11am, you get one the same day. I've never had them come back to me with any issues about being rooted or having an unlocked bootloader and I've been doing it since the the days of the Samsung Galaxy S2. (if you claim the fault is with software too, you don't even pay an exces :victory: )

What's the excess? And how much is the insurance?

£10 per month and includes accidental damage. I broke my screen and paid £25 for the excess.
