[Q]How to flash RUU - HTC Wildfire S

How to flash Ruu ?? I have S-off rooted using infra ROM an overclocked I want to update my radio firmware. Bcoz getting poor battery can any one give me a guide plss..
thanks in advance
Sent from my HTC Wildfire S using XDA Premium App

Just run the exe file.............connect you phone and follow the instructions.......
Is it that hard that you had to ask???

It's not that simple. Here's what you need to do:
Charge the battery above 50%.
Relock the bootloader using the following command:
Code:
fastboot oem lock
Then boot the phone into bootloader and select Fastboot using the volume rocker and pressing power. Then connect the USB cable. You should see FASTBOOT USB.
Run the RUU from Windows and follow the wizard. You may have to extract and re-flash the stock recovery from the RUU for it to work, I don't remember.
Once the install is done you'll have unlock the bootloader again using the token you already have from the first time, reflash cwm recovery and re-root. All this will be 10x easier than the first time.

No its not the thing of hard I'm a bit scared to try the attempt.bcoz my one friends phone got bricked while trying this I don knw wat wrong step he did so I don WAN my phone to get brick like tat simple.
Q. I jus WAN a proper guide guys could any one help
Thanks for reply friends

Thanks dude
But one doubt mine is already unlocked bootloader. Aft flashing it ill get locked r wat ??
Sent from my HTC Wildfire S using XDA Premium App

I'm not sure what you are saying. If you unlocked the bootloader with HTC dev then you must relock it before flashing. Either way it will be locked after.

how do I relock the boot loader, I've gone to terminal emulater typed in fastboot oem lock but it comes up with fastboot not found.
thanks.

Boot the phone into HBOOT, select FASTBOOT with the volume rocker and press the power button. It will turn red. Then plug it into your computer with the USB cable and it will say FASTBOOT USB.
Open a command prompt and type in the command.

OK i did that and it now says RELOCKED Yay!
But when i try to install the RUU update it gets halfway through and says failed
is this because i have CWM and root still going ?
Do i need to clear Root, Remove CWM as well as relocking the bootloader ?
im sorry to keep mithering you

OK, you have to revert to the stock recovery. While the RUU wizard is open, find the temporary folder it created. (Open Explorer in windows and type %temp% in the navigation bar.) There will be two folders with long encrypted names. In one of them you will find ROM.zip. Open it with 7zip and extract recovery.img. Flash it from FASTBOOT USB (like before) using the command
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Then re-run the RUU and it should finish.

OMG Please Help me!

Ok I think I've actually broken my One X.
I was trying to put a default ROM back onto the system, I had my phone plugged into my PC, and "ran Android_Revolution_HD_Super_Wipe_One_X"
STUPIDLY I deleted a couple of files off the SD card in Windows Explorer, and now I cant get into recovery mode for ClockwordMod Recovery (as I'm assuming like an idiot I deleted it somehow)
Literally if I boot the phone it won't go past the HTC welcome screen.
I apologise profusely if this is already covered elsewhere - but I am an absolute noob and do not understand much of the jargon. I shouldn't have messed in the first place, I could cry
1. Fastboot and erase the cache, that will then allow you back into the recovery.
2. Fastboot the boot.img to your phone, as S-OFF won't allow the clockwork to flash it.
3. Don't panic. You can always recover the phone through Fastboot.
I should know, i was once in your position.
thanks for the reply,
I read about erasing the cache, but I have no idea how.
the guide just says type it into your pc
sorry again for being thick!
No problem.
Do you have fastboot open on your pc? if so.
Type : fastboot erase cache
Then download the Boot.img from ARHD, and follow the instructions.
Mike has included a .bat file that will automatically erase the cache and flash the boot image. I suggest going on to his forum and running the file.
I know I have downloaded it (I'm so lost) but the file in my downloads isn't something that opens a program?
Thanks a bunch!
It should have a .bat named install-boot, it shouldn't run a program, but open in CMD with options displayed on what to do next. Follow the instructions and you'll be fine.
ok I don't have a file called install-boot, just adb, fastboot and a few .dll files. both exe files flash cmd but it doesnt remain open.
any chance you can point me in the direction of this software as it would appear i have the wrong thing!

It seems like we need to get back to basics a bit. Are you familiar with MS-DOS? Those programs are not meant to be run from windows by clicking on them. They are run with command lines typed in a DOS type window that is opened when you type "cmd" into your search box in windows.

sorry, confusing fastboot and flashboot I think,
I'm being told that I'm missing adbwinapi.dll - looking into it
I'm no genius but I'm not usually this bad, just so worried - got the phone 12 hours ago, naturally feeling sick!
ok, followed the steps with flashboot (ran the cache delete and install-boot)
still not let into recovery. it goes past the htc sense screen, all black with a mobile with green arrows in a circle (like a sync) which eventually changed to a triangle with '!' in it.
what am i missing?
You can't delete recovery through windows explorer for the record.

That's stock recovery it sounds like. Just relock your bootloader ( fastboot oem lock) then run an ruu. Then once booted you can start all over.

sorry noob alert again: how do i do this?
Sounds like it has the stock recovery on it. Download the Cwm recovery and you should have a file called recovery.img. Place this file in the adb platform-tools folder. Go to that location in cmd prompt then type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img or you can find on xda via search one x all in one kit which if you download and open then put your phone in fastboot mode via bootloader will allow you to flash Cwm recovery and should do it for you

int the adb platform-tools folder? again im very very sorry, but where is this?
When you downloaded adb did you download the exe or zip version. If exe download zip version then extract it place the contents on your c drive then when using cmd use the cd commands to get to the correct folder.

ok, I have managed to boot a recovery (i think) and can now get into CWM, only problem now, is that my PC no longer recognises my phone in order for me to put any ROM files onto the SD card so that it can load them?
Yes Cwm does not support sd mount atm. I think you will need to refer to the post by someone saying relock bootloader and flash ruu. You will need to find and download the ruu that matches your device. ie network your on and country ur in. As I'm guessing you have deleted the rom image of the sd or nand backup?

THANKS! I think this has done the trick, and the RUU is currently installing...

[TUT] Re-flash stock ROM (RUU) after bricking a rooted device (for noobs)

Before you start, you will need to set up your computer to properly recognize the phone. You probably did this when rooting originally, but just in case... Install SDK tools for Android, Java runtime, and HTC Sync.
About HTC Sync: The only reason you need HTC Sync installed is for the USB drivers that come with it. But the program itself has been known to cause conflicts. Make sure that HTC Sync is not running in the background by opening Task Manager in Windows and killing it if you find it lurking in there.
Here we go:
1. Download the correct RUU (ROM Update Utility) for your device from androidfiles.org. Make sure you download a Primo_C RUU for a CDMA device (no sim card) or a Primo_U RUU for a GSM device (uses a sim card)!! Also make sure you get the correct RUU for your carrier.
2. Charge the battery above 50% or for at least one hour. If the battery dies during the flashing process, you could hard brick the phone!
3. Run the RUU until the wizard comes up. While the RUU wizard is open, find the temporary folder it created. (Open Explorer in Windows and type %temp% in the navigation bar.) There will be two folders with long encrypted names. In one of them you will find ROM.zip. Open it with 7zip and extract recovery.img or recovery_signed.img. Put it in the location were you've installed Android SDK tools. This is the stock HTC Recovery and it is needed to run the RUU.
4. Boot the phone into bootloader (power off, hold down volume and press power) and highlight FASTBOOT using the volume rocker and pressing power. Then connect the USB cable. You should see FASTBOOT USB.
5. Open a command prompt in Windows and navigate to the folder where you installed Android SDK tools. Flash the stock recovery extracted in step 3 above using the following command:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
or
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery_signed.img
6. Relock the bootloader using the following command:
Code:
fastboot oem lock
7. Re-run the RUU. It will restore the device to it's original condition, locked (though *** RELOCKED ***) and unrooted.
Once the install is done you'll have unlock the bootloader again using the token you already have from the first time, reflash CWM Recovery and re-root. All this will be 10x easier than the first time.
If you do re-root your phone, be 100% you backup the stock ROM in ClockworkMod Recovery before making changes!
Hi
Thanks for that perfect decsription exactly when I needed it
I just had a weired effect with my new windows 7 laptop that I want to share.
I installed the USB drivers and "fastboot devices" showed my HTC fine
but even flashing the stock recovery image was not working.
So it was stucking in the "Sending" part and never continued.
I then moved to my old laptop with Vista did exactly the same things
and there it worked without problems.
I disabled virus scanner, checked for htsync and used the original USB cable
without success.
But now I know why I normally never touch Windows and only
work on linux

max

"Waiting for Device" at fastboot usually related to bootloader driver. You need Android USB Driver
See : http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html
Hi folks,
I've bought my One V in late may and I had 2.08 ROM.
Now I've tested some roms and I wanted to revert back to stock rom.
I've downloaded RUU_PRIMO_U_ICS_40A_HTC_Europe_2.08.401.2_Radio_20.72.30.0833U_3831.17.00.18_M_release_263376_signed, and got recovery_signed and boot_signed images. Then I've went to fastboot, did flash recovery and boot partitions, and oem locked bootloader. Afterwards I booted my phone and entered PIN. Then I fired up RUU*.exe file, and I have 155 error. What the heck? Something I missed?
greetings!

Flashing RUU to revert to stock
- you must have the correct RUU for your device.
- if you are not sure, download CID Getter from Play Store and run it, it will show your CID.
- with your CID, you may be able to find a correct RUU for your device
then (even though some people may not agree with this, but this will bring no harm and it is noob-proof) do this:
1- flash a stock recovery.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery_signed.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot erase cache
2- flash a stock boot.img
fastboot flash boot boot_signed.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot erase cache
3- re-lock bootloader
fastboot oem lock
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot erase cache
4- flash RUU
NOTE: There is no boot/reboot and enter pin in between.

You can root your phone by using the HTC super tool, just google for it.
I assume you have stock recovery on your phone, then you actually can't really use that recovery. You should try to root it with supertool
and then install CWM with ROM Manager
I hope this came in handy for you!

After unlocking, you have to root the device first then install CWM and take a nandroid backup thru Recovery option.
For rooting you can also use root.zip method. just google it.
To flash CWM, goto Hboot menu and select fastboot, then goto cmd (command prompt) on pc try using fastboot commands to flash boot.img, system.img and recovery.img.
Hope this may be useful.....

Maybe you need to downgrade your stock ROM (if you still can boot it up so to say).
Look for a RUU for WFS and try to downgrade/upgrade HBOOT and such to an older/newer version.
Sorry that I can't post any links too RUUs, I'm on my phone.
But there is a tread with these in the Dev section I think, but if they don't work you can just google for them.
tbh I have a similar problem with my bro's WFS, I can't even unlock it because of wrong versions a such so I think your problem could be related to this.

I think you you've chosen the wrong cwm. Chose the right one here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1213229
download PG76IMG.zip and you need to install it using fastboot, it will not work using the zip file from your sd card. Make sure you delete that file before attempting what is below (adapted from CafeKampuchia's guide on rooting).
You will need SDK tools for Android, Java runtime, and HTC Sync installed on your Windows computer. Install the SDK tools in a directory named something like c:\android. Put the recovery image in this directory, too, not the zip file.
Boot the phone into HBOOT by turning the phone off, removing the battery, replacing the battery then holding down the power key and volume button. After it scans for PG7610.zip, select FASTBOOT and press the power button then connect the USB cable. The word FASTBOOT will change into FASTBOOT USB. If not, then either your USB drivers for the Wildfire S or Android SDK Tools is not installed properly.
Open a command prompt in Windows and navigate to c:\android
Type the following command: fastboot flash recovery [image name.img]. For example:
c:\android\>fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.8-marvel.img
Hope this will install ClockworkMod recovery properly. (If really press 'thank').

yeah other than that its pretty complete. See the post he referring to. I remember using this post to root mine.

(If really press 'thank').

i used the exact same version of clockworkmode recovery. the problem is not with the recovery i think its with my phone. and i tried downgrading the hboot using ruu but the problem still exists ... that is the black screen on recovery.

To do the OTA you need to flash the official recovery do the ota and then reflash twrp. No need to lock the bootloader.

Rename it to recovery.img and copy it in the fastboot folder of the pc, then you put the phone in the bootloader/fastboot usb mode.
Open the command window on the pc inside the fastboot folder and type
Fastboot erase cache (enter)
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (enter)
Fastboot erase cache (enter)

Hello,
ok i thought i would give you a quick rundown of what im doing
1 - i unlocked the bootloader and flashed using the tools on here
2 - i received the software update via OTA
3 - however because i have unlocked and flashed it just loads the recovery option
so basically i want to remove the unlock and flash as per step 1 above
thanks
You don't need to relock the bootloader to be able to update, what you need is stock rom (the way it came out of the box) root is no problem but if you removed bloatware the update will fail. You also need the stock recovery and the stock kernel.

Fastboot erase cache (enter)
and when i got to the folder containing the fastboot, i double click fastboot and a cmd window appears then disappears straight away, however if i open the HTC application and the select bootloader the cmd window stays
Ah oke, what you must do is, go with the windows explorer to the folder, point the mouse in the folder, hold shift and right click the mouse. Then select open command window here......you will see a dosprompt and there you must enter the commands

[Q] Phone Unlocked but can't ROOT!

Hello Guys
I own a HTC One X (4.1.1) which i bought a month ago and i m new to android. I unlocked my phone with the help of Hasoon2000 all in one toolkit. While rebooting into Bootloader it says unlocked and when i try to flash a recovery like CWM or TWRP it says "Error : No Device Found".
OR if i try to do it manually by rebooting in bootloader and then going in recovery it shows me a RED TRIANGLE. Toolkit installed the HTC drivers and I even copied CWM SuperSu folder in my HTC Storage. Pls Help as i really want to root my phone but i m not able to.
Tell me a procedure for how to root.
Thanks!
So the bootloader is unlocked?
Manually boot to bootloader(vol- and power), highlight fastboot and press power to confirm. Hook usb cable. Now it says 'fastboot usb' on the screen doesn't it?
Now go to your lil toolkit and try to flash a recovery. It should work.

No man still the same thing "Error : No Device Found"
Any other solution..
It should not be a driver problem since unlocking the bootloader already used fastboot connection...
Try another usb port, another usb cable, reboot pc and try another pc if possible.

tyr installing HTC Sync: http://dl4.htc.com/managed-assets/support/software/htc-sync/htc_sync_setup_3.3.21.exe
Ditch the damn toolkit and use a command prompt like a boss: http://d-h.st/592
Extract the 'win32' folder on your pc and launch the cmd prompt like this:
Hold shift and right click anywhere in the folder. Select open command prompt here.
Now DL the recovery from here: http://download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.4.0-endeavoru.img
Put it to the same folder as the fastboot files, rename it to recovery.img
Then type: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
it says error cannot load recovery
I m using windows 7 64 bit
Have the recovery.img in the same folder as the files fastboot.exe, etc.
If your windoze hides file extensions, make sure it ain't named recovery.img.img
Sent from my IceCold One X
i copied the recovery file into the fastboot+adb folder which u told me to download and then entered command prompt. then it says that error while loading recovery. Do i have to copy the recovery file into other folder or something?

See this is wat i did after unlocking the bootloader :
1) I downloaded the fastboot folder.
2) I downloaded the recovery file.(Clockworkmod)
3) I copy pasted the recovery file in the fastboot folder and renamed it recovery.img
4) I connect my phone to my pc using my usb cable.
5) I boot my phone into bootloader
6) on my pc using shift i open the command window in the fastboot folder.
7) I enter fastboot mode on my phone which says "Failed to open USB master mode"
8) I then type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img in the command windows and it shows error loading recovery file.
Am I doing something wrong??
I m not able to root my phone because of this.
pls help.
My phone is running 4.1.1 jellybean. Is dat a problem??
