[Q] Internet pass-through help - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a HTC Wildfire (Not S), and I often don't have credit. So I searched stuff up, and apparently I could use HTC Sync for "Internet Pass-Through". I've installed Sync and both devices recognise each other, but on the 'Connect to PC' screen there is no internet pass-through option. Any ideas?
Thanks.

This doesnt work that way. You can use connectify to share your internet through wifi provided your network card supports it.

Thanks for the reply but sadly, we use an ntl cable modem, and my dad won't let us use wifi or wireless stuff it's why I've been looking up ways to reverse tether my Wildfire, and also why I asked this, as with my firmware etc. it seems impossible to do. So I guess it's no internet till I can persuade him but thanks anyways

There was thread related to reverse tethering somewhere in this forum but I never tried it. Just search the wildfire section.
Edit
Here it it

Thanks again only sad thing is that I'm running HBoot 1.01.0002, meaning I can't root it without goldcard (which needs an sd card reader I think). I also wanna keep my data on the SD intact :/ seems I'm in a pretty bad situation here...

Back up your entire SD card to a pc first (disk mode), and use the actual phone as a card reader.
Worked for me!

Thanks I HAVE thought of that, but was getting a decent syncing thing that wasn't HTC Sync ah, the joys of being a geeky 15 year old...

I have to thank you guys for your help now have a rooted Wildfire running CyanogenMod 7 with reverse tether working like a charm And, cos I had to follow
a really wild route, I might post an error-inclusive tut on it but still, many thanks

Desire HD bought on Ebay - diagnostic tool

Hello,
I've just bought on Ebay an HTC Desire HD New.
I've read some threats and I'm concerned about battery, is it so bad?
I have an HTC touch HD and I like it, but I think Desire HD will be a great upgrade, do you agree?
I want to test my new HTC (I dont want to be tricked) on hardware, is there any tool that can diagnostic me the hardware and search for any problem? Because I've 14 days to sent it back....
Thanks
Is it brand new? It can take up to a week to settle in.

The battery will be bad if you use 3G/HTCSense.com/GPS/Sync with always on. The custom roms provide a brilliant battery-saving boost to DHD.

Yes, its brand new, but the user had (0) feedback, but paypal cover the transaction.
It will arrive next week, then I will give some feedback.
Should I "install" new ROMs? In my TOUCH HD I have energy ROMs and they are very good.
When the phone arrives just use it, dont try and install any new roms or radios. Just get used to the phone and how it works/doesn't work.
Whilst your getting used to the phone have a read on how to s-off the HBoot and radio, root the phone and install new roms. Once you have all the info and the phone is going well, you can start enjoying yourself.
You should know very quickly if there is something wrong with the phone, but if you need any info or help just slap another post on here and people will be more then happy to help.
Good luck
Blinky
I've received today and its simply amazing and fast.
I'm still discovering all new functions.
Any software to have internet through PC? I have a MAC OSX, and I need to open the virtual windows to have internet on HTC (HTC SYNC).
when you connect your DHD to a computer a prompt should come up and choose Internet pass-through, or go to Settings>Connect to PC> Default Connection type and choose Internet pass-through
Yes, I know, but that works on Windows, and I need to work on MAC OSX, because everytime I want internet I need to open virtual windows.
There is any software like HTC Sync for MAC?

If your pictures are on your micro SD card then you can just put that in another device and get the pictures off that way or get a micro SD to SD card converter on eBay.
Hope I helped!
i know this isn't really a how to fix it, but there was a thread somewhere i think that was posted in the in the general section that had the exact same problem. It was fixed by running a program where you control the phone with your computer... i think.. or it allowed you to display the screen of the phone on your computer... you can also try to use an mhl adapter.
sorry i can't help, but if you dig a little you might be able to find that thread. don't exactly remember how the exact process went, but it solved the problem

You're thinking of using a VNC server? That will do it but the problem is that he has to install it on his phone....wait but that a can be done via adb or desktop play store. He will have to do it over wifi in order to determine the IP of the device so he can connect to the server.

Can't you just connect the phone to your laptop via usb and transfer the pics?? Or am I missing something here

I got pics off my broken vibrant with Droid explorer. It does require root and USB debugging to be on. Thankfully I always left it on. You also need to set up adb on your computer.
Other than that I'm not sure. It took months of asking arOund and almost wiping my Sd with bad adb commands.
My phone broke and it took five months before figuring it out after giving up.
Praise to Droid explorer

I think it was something like this.
I really can't remember the thread was like in January/February.
So OP hope you're up for some searching and hope you can find the correct terms to search with...
edit: found it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501169&highlight=mhl&page=2
it is droid explorer.
However, if you're not rooted yeah.... and if your usb debugging isn't on... yeahh....
if you think you can still control the screen... then try an mhl adapter. that may be your last choice besides replacing the screen.

Internet connection not working on my HTC Desire

hello folks..
hope you all doing good..
since 2 hours my Internet connection is not working on my desire,,it was working in afternoon but not since evening..
when on the internet, its shows a Sync sign on my notification bar But nothing sync & only upload bar is ON and download bar is off, so not able to open any web page.. and the other thing is my internal memory shows 60mb free which earlier showed as 50mb.. so i'm little confused here. whats going on..
need help from you guys,so should i make my internet work.
thanks
First of all, what ROM are you running, or are you still running on HTC's factory Sense? Secondly are you using WIFI or cellular network? And how do you know that your internet connection is not working? Give us some more detail to work with
i have not root my phone,,im running official gingerbread on my desire & using htc factory sense..
i'm trying to use cellular network,,dont have wi-fi.
i'm not able to open any webpage or android market...there is sync icon on notification icon which appears once i connect to cellular network & nothing happens..
Just for asking, but have you tried rebooting your phone?
Also, do you know of anyone else who is using the same carrier, and check if they are having the same issues?
Did you maybe skip your contract limit?
I'm asking you these questions, to be able to isolate the problem, and not just point fingers at your phone
yes i reboot my phone, removed battery & again restarted,,but still internet doesnot work..
nope,,non of my friends are facing this issue & net is working my other nokia phone..and still 850mb data is available for me to use,,
yea i understand that..
This problem is dwindling down to be related to your mobile.
Are you using an APN? If so, can you open it, write down the settings, *delete it* reboot your phone and create a new one with the same settings?
If you are not, I'm beginning to run out of ideas of what could be causing you this issue.
guys i got the solution... the below software made me help copy messages & all my contacts to pc..
http://www.wondershare.com/android-manager/guide.html
try it,,u will love it..
thanks for ur reply
gbu
hey mate i did factory reset,,still same problem occurs,, & cannot connect to internet...
any suggestions ..what can i do next?
You may want to try one last thing. Swap your sim into another mobile from which you can access your carrier network and access your internet from it. If it works then I'm afraid you're going to have to take your mobile for repair since you're still on stock rom. If not then somethings up with your contract, and should contact your carrier for an explanation.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA
yea im currently doing that... :/
i insert my sim into different cellphone,,still internet does not work.. it gives following message---
Data connectivity problem. The server failed to communicate , Try again later.
now, what to do?
I suggest you talk to your contract carrier since it seems that your phone is not the problem.

Stock Internet browser URGENT

Is their a way I can find out what sites have been visited even if the history and every other info is deleted I'm sure theirs a method to recover it from HTC desire hd. Xda is full of developers and hackers their must be a method surely.
I want to know because someone has gone missing who I know and I also know they used my phone to search everything I need to find them because nobody knows where they have gone. I know this is a weird question but I'm sure thier can be a way. Just like when you delete everything on a computer browser and it can be recovered I'm sure mobile browsers can to with the right amount of skills.
The website have been visited through WiFi what if I contact my internet provider?

Deleting history on a device only clears the device of the history...I believe. There should be history on the network thing. This is similair to how Incognito browsing works.

If the browsing was done using Chrome then your Google account that was linked to it would probably have all the information. However, since you mentioned the stock browser I'm not sure if there's a way.

Can't get Foxfi/Mobile Hotspot to work stock, will root definitively make it work?

Hey guys, I just bought myself a HTC One V to upgrade from an Optimus V on VMs Beyond Talk plan. The Optimus severed me well for a while but the internal storage limitation and general sluggishness of the phone prompted me to update. One thing it handled very well though was running Foxfi so I could tether my iPad to it, which actually became my main reason for using the phone other then internet radio and talking. However, this is something that is not working out-of-the-box on my HTC One V, even using Apex Launcher to reveal the hidden "Mobile Hotspot" application on the phone will not work and does the same thing (allows hotspot to be created, lets devices connect, but does NOT allow internet access to the devices) So before I send this back and return to the safety of my Optimus V I'd just like to know for sure if one of the many root-needed tether apps out there will allow an iPad to connect to a mobile Wifi hotspot created by this phone (not USB or bluetooth DUN) because I see many posts out there that state rooting did not help the issue. Thanks in advance guys, keep up the good work.
Do restore factory it may work.
hit thanks if I helped u!!!

If not, one of the many gurus around here can help you to safely unlock the bootloader and root your phone... believe me, once you jump in the pool, you don't wanna get out. For any general assistance in that area, feel free to also message me as I am more than happy to help you out.
I rooted my gf's virgin mobile htc one v and absolutely no tethering apps work. Also there are no responses to the tethering threads on the forum. So much for the gurus

Install one of the roms with WiFi tether support. PAC cm10 aokp extreme sense. Just use titanium backup of backup and restore her apps so she doesn't get pissy at you for messing with her phone lol

I don't think anybody has the answer for that. Everybody says put this rom or the other one but I haven't read anybody saying: "I have this x rom installed and wifi hotspot worls".

I've been trying to get wifi tethering working on stock roms and it hasn't been going well, however, I'm on PACman rom right now with wifi tethering working like a charm
I'm running the rooted stock rom and the standard yellow wifi tether app works fine for me. Sometimes it will randomly go down and have to be restarted but not more than once a day. Also I've never been able to get FoxFi to work on this phone yet.
Settings I use if this helps you guys who can't get it working:
Profile: Generic ICS/JB (wlan0)
Setup-Method: Netd-Ndc (master)
WiFi-driver reload: on
Routingf fix: on
what is the "standard yellow wifi tether app" ?
The app he is referring to is: http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
Use the settings he mentioned in his post. Your device does need to be rooted but I can confirm that it will allow tethering with no problem on stock ROM.

Thank you!!!! I had rooted my One V today and tried a few tether apps but none of them worked. Remembered I made this thread a while back asking about it and figured I should check it out. This was the first app I tried and of course it didn't work, but I applied the settings you suggested and now works like a charm!! Will still probably flash to something else but just knowing it works on stock is reassuring. Much appreciated!

I'm in the same boat, I posted here long time ago and decided to check again today and it looks that there is a fix now. So how do you like the phone over the LG Optimus V? I bought the HTC ONE V a couple of months ago but didn't activate it because I need the tethering once in a while. How did you root it?
Wifi hotspot only works on JB roms it seems.
