Hi guys, have you seen screen problems on the One X like this?
www-youtube-com/watch?v=VFvABvJXDc8
(sorry about the badly typed link, I'm new to the forums, an the system won't let me post links . So please replace the - to . in www-youtube-com to see the video. Also the video is a bit long, but luckily I managed to replicate all of the problems in one take. Annotations are in english/hungarian).
I made this video just after I got the phone back from the repair service*, they said that they fixed it by upgrading the software to Android 4.0.3 and "Software number" 1.29.707.11, but apperently this not solved the problem.
Is it possible that this is software based, or it is hardware related?
And if it's software should I take the matters in my hand, and try different ROMs to see which fixes it or stick to the warranty and fight with the repair service until they fix it? (I expect the latter to be a long process and I won't be able to use the One X for a few more weeks/months.)
Thanks for your help,
d
*The problems why I sent back were exacly the same like now.
thats weird the problem is indeed solved by 1.29.x.11
ur unit is defected mate
i got real pissed off with htc, i sent my phone to them twice, and all they did was reinstall the software... wankers.
it looks like hardware to me, looks like a dodgy connection.
get in touch with your retailer and demand a replacement. it's not acceptable sending back devices that AREN'T fixed.
the repair isn't supposed to inconvenience you. thats what the uk consumer law states anyway. so now they have inconvenienced you, it's time they sent you a brand new one.

yea one thing for sure, htc should have purged or recalled the entire defected batch, it would have earned the respect of customers instead of rage
Sounds like they were too lazy to repair it properly.
So hardware it is, I will fight the long fight then. Thanks guys for the quick help! :highfive:
Hello guys!
I am having the exact same problem!
This even happens on safe mode!
But becomes less frequent when the phone is connected to a PC or being charged.
Are you 100% sure that this is a hardware issue!??
This is my first HTC phone and I am not very familiar with them.
I bought the phone from the UAE back in June, but now I am in Tunisia... And there no HTC representation here to return the phone?
The outcome
Finally, after 80 days in the service, I have the results: this problem got solved by replacing this defective unit with a completely new one. No software solution, no motherboard repair – a brand new One X. So if you have the same symptoms, I would recommend to ask for a replacement, a new phone (for mer the warranty period – 2years – restarted also). The new one works flawlessly (so far ).
Well, there is a lot of information around this part of XDA about how many faults the HOX has, not just little faults that effect a few users, but major faults that have effected whole batched of HOX's.
Now, all devices are going to have faults and "bad Batchs" but its how your provider deals with those faults, that make the difference.
The way HTC has dealt with the HOX's issue, have made me think that this will be the last HTC device I ever purchase.
Around 2 weeks ago, I was going back and forth with e-mails from HTC. It's like they didn't even read my e-mails, as though the used the "Find" function and just searched keywords in the e-mail, if those keywords came up they copied and pasted something in response.
This isn't good enough in my opinion, but it gets worse. Even after I had said that you clearly are not reading my e-mails, which makes the issue ten times worse, they then replied with the same response as my first email, which confirmed my theory.
Then, after I refused to send it to HTC over the "WiFi" fault, due to the amount of storied I have seen where the devices have come back far-worse than when they were first sent.
THEY THEN AGREED AND SAID LAST YEAR THEY CHANGED THEIR REPAIR CENTRE!! WRONG!! I had now been lied to.
Just looking for others opinions, do you have any "GOOD" storied about HTC and their support?
Anyone had an experience like me that has totally put them off HTC for good?
Should I just stick with my device and live with the WiFi fault, or should I take the plunge and return my device for repair?
THANKS ALL !

send your device for repair and end of story....if you want your phone to be fully functional then send it away and end of the matter....same thing would of happen with your car...if there is a fault you send it in and you are without a car for a few days..same with the phone...do not know what is the issue here really..yeah you are not happy with the way they are responding to you..but get on the phone and call them instead of emails....speak to your network provider and send your phone to them instead of HTC then...I know this will be my last HTC phone but at the end of the day i still love my One X and yes i send my phone for repairs and it took longer than i was told but when i received my phone back i never had any issues...
I think that one of the most important things to have in any service provider is client support.I think that this is strange I was thinking (theoratically) that a company like HTC would have a good support ofor clients, but after what I heared I'm surprused and a little bit disappointed....but if you please cab I know your country for better knowledge, and why you didnt try to make a call to.the support center in your country??! :screwy:

When I have some issue with something, I feel everyone has those issues with that thing, and i start calling that thing as defective, human nature! My phone is not having a single defect, no, HTC won my trust in them with this device
Firstly, it's not true that entire batches were affected by faults, that's a blatant exaggeration. A small fraction of devices with similar serial numbers have similar problems.
Secondly, there appears to be a few cases where sending off for repair didn't work out too well for people, but again, a small fraction.
A small fraction of a small fraction is very small.
If you refuse to have your faulty device repaired, then really, you forfeit you're right to complain about your faulty device.
I don't care which phone you buy next, and I'd be surprised if there is anybody else who does.
If you want sympathy, talk to your girlfriend, mother or another female friend, or possibly a shrink. You won't find much here. If you want help, it's been given to you; send it in for repair.

I for one have the following opinions :
-customer service is a mess. The only few that wan't to help don't have the power to do it.
-i can accept that some procent of an entire production can have problems, but in this case things got out of proportion. Cases like 10 exchanged One X's are confirmed on this forum. I even saw a post where someone said he exchanged 22 devices.
-i for one have the third One X now, and now someone from HTC tells me that is normal to receive a refurbished device. Even if i paid a fully working one, and it's not if i have used the device for a year...it has been faulty from the first day.
-the One X is a dezaster as QA and this attitude twords clients is a bigger dezaster

How are you blaming HTC? You could have sent it, decided to be stubborn, and now you're complaining about the outcome of your own actions.
My HOX works fine. Other than them being slow in the update, just fine.

As expected, this thread is another *****fest.
The guy with the ten devices story is very sketchy. Anyone getting 10 devices in 2 months from one place is either the most unlucky person in the world or doing something to break his device (like the "SQUEEZE IT TILL IT BREAKS" aka the wifi test). Someone getting 22 devices is twice as sketchy.
Here's how it works kids: if you get a faulty phone, take it back. Get a new one. If that is faulty, maybe do the same, or move on to another device. Whining after breaking it attempting a squeeze test or effing it up with a bad flash is your fault.
You maybe right, let's discuss my case then.
First device, yellow spots, screen flex & ripple. I contacted HTC support, they told me that the retailer will exchange my phone on the spot. That wasn't the case. The retailer didn't accepted this so i sent the phone to the repair shop, got the rezolution for a new phone and then got a new phone at the retailer.
The only problem was that the retailer had only faulty devices. I contacted HTC support from there, i got another device that i was told to ship to the repair shop and i will get a new one from them.
I did that, and not only the device i received is faultyer than the first two it is also refurbished.
I contacted HTC on 22 August first regarding this, the only response i got is to resend the phone to be repaired. I can not accept a refurbished device. If someone else can accept it that's their problem.
And from 22 August i am only beeing postponed with escalated, reescalated cases.
Wouldn't you ***** about it ?
HTC Don't care about their customers, why should I pay so much for something, then have to be without it for a month so they can fix it?
I probably will send it off to them, but for the hassle and time spent without the phone, it isn't worth sending it to them.
My phone is very important to my work aswell so again, this isn't just effected me in one way.
I am blaming HTC for not even reading my emails, and sending out phones with faults, I'm not blaming HTC for the fact I won't send it back.
Also, it isn't just one case that have been sent back in much worse conditions, and I never refered to any one case as an example, as these examples of HTC are all over the internet.
AND AS I SAID BEFORE ALL DEVICES ARE BOUND TO HAVE FAULTS, ITS HOW YOU DEAL WITH THE FAULTS!! AND HTC DONT DEAL WITH THEM WELL !
the devices have come back far-worse than when they were first sent

That's exactly what happened to me.
When i first bought my One X i thought i had a faultless device but after a month or two i realized that it had a faulty pixel, so i went ahead and sent it to repair and guess how it came back?
Faults before sending the device:
1) Faulty pixel
2) Screen flex/ripple when applying slight pressure on the edges of the screen
Faults after sending the device:
1) Screen flex/ripple when applying slight pressure on any place on the screen
2) Recent apps button doesn't light up while the others do (Back and Home)
3) The device makes a crackling sound as if the screen didn't fit into the device correctly
4) The wifi fault
So basically they ruined it instead of fixing it. I've sent it back to repair hopefully they'll fix it this time.

Same here - although I had issue at start with the tilt sensor failing, but got it swapped straight away via my carrier (O2 UK), and have had no problems with the new one since.
I had problems with my old Samsung Galaxy S when I first had that (think it was the third one I had that didn't bring a new issue), so there will always be a risk of teething problems with first batches.
All in all, been very happy with it, even more so than my old Galaxy S in that I don't feel the need to root this one to change the Rom to fix failings with the device!

That is exactly my point, which is exactly why I don't want to send HTC my device, as the only fault is the WiFi and to be honest I can live with that, but to send it to your company for a fix, and recieve a worse device back is un-acceptable, and to recieve a "re-furbished phone" is again unacceptable.

That is nothing to do with HTC though, you took it back to your carrier, who sorted to issue for you, so HTC caused your issue, but HTC had no involvement fixing it!
Also I forgot to mention that the repair center refuses to acknowledge the screen flex as a "flaw" and they claim that it's present on all One X's although this video proves otherwise youtube.com/watch?v=MiTUIBOSVTU
the title of your thread is misleading
To be fair its the repair centers contracted out by htc that are letting everyone down. If htc actually repaired the phones themselves then it might be better.
They do need to sort out those repair centers who are returning them unrepaired etc

Mate, you're in the UK and you're with Voda. What's your problem? Is the phone from Voda? If it is I'm pretty sure they'll sort it, their retentions and support are epic. If its not, where's it from? You're covered by your standard 12 month warranty and if you're still not sure you're also protected under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 which superceeds any terms in a manufactures warranty AND lasts an additional FIVE YEARS!!
Really, I expected better from a senior forum member. Throwing your toys out of the pram is no way to set an example to newcomers and personally I'm sick of all these "Blah blah blah HTC are a bunch of hopeless c*nts." threads. If you're that upset, sell the thing, buy a Samsung and f*ck off!

I bought a One X about a month ago. Brand new and unbranded. I started having issues with it. First was Audio Stutter, i contacted HTC support and they told me to clear cache through the recovery. This didn't work. The only way to fix this was to restart the phone with the headphones plugged in. Secondly the Vibrator started making a clicking noise every time i typed with the keyboard or used the capacitive keys. And now while charging my phone i started to notice yellow spots appear at the bottom of the screen (Which is a known issue with these devices) but disappeared after a while when i removed it from charging. This might be because the phone gets VERY HOT when its charging. I replaced the charger but i still had these issues. I contacted HTC and booked my phone in for repair. I'm just wondering whether they will give me a new phone or attempt to repair it.
Hi,
if it's within 30 days of purchase the seller should offer a replacement. If not they will more than likely say they'll repair it - like you said.
I've had no end of problems with mine recently, but HTC kept repairing it - which is fine by me. The one x I am using now is a replacement as the previous one kept breaking.
So I guess it comes down to HTC, it'll be there decision. But they'll normally try to repair it at least once before replacing.
Cheers

I have a feeling they might replace it. To fix the audio stutter they might have to replace the Main board and to fix the screen they will have to replace everything. Won't it not be cheaper and less time consuming to send me a new one instead. The thing i hate most is getting a phone back after it has been repaired and it does not feel the same anymore..doesn't feel new.

It just depends on HTC. I had mine repaired twice and now on my second replacement device (which is perfect - touch wood). I first suffered with Wifi - then it got repaired, but came back with a loose camera, yellow spots on the screen, broken vibration and overheating. So they offered to replace the device because it was brought back within 30days (more like they made the problems worse). So they gave me a new one - but that was faulty as it had a yellow tint to the screen, so they replaced it again because i brought it back within a week.
I know what you mean by it not feeling the same after it has been repaired - but to be honest i really couldn't tell a difference, normally i can.
They will more than likely offer to repair it, as its a lot cheaper than HTC giving you a brand new phone. At least you can get a repair and its not voided for a particular reason.
Cheers.
I just got off the phone to HTC regarding my Phones repair status and what they did to fix it. I initially sent my phone in for repair Because of Audio Crackling, Vibration motor fault when using softkeys or keyboard and Yellow spots on the screen when i charge the phone. NOW they are telling me they perfomed tests on the phone and found a WiFi problem(Which i never had a problem with) and they have fixed it and have shipped the phone to me. What Pisses me off is the fact that I'm getting my phone back with the exact same problems. I asked them why was the problem description not followed and they said they had a bug in their system so they did not know what the problem was when i clearly sent a copy of the paperwork that was emailed to me when i booked the phone for repair. It clearly states on the 'Problem Described:' section on the paperwork that i the above three problems. Has this ever happened to anyone?
I brought mine from Carphone Warehouse so my phones are always sent to there repair center. But I must say I've heard many complaints about HTCs repair service.
Cheersm

Guys,
Was wondering if any of you are suffering from HTC service center as i do.
Would like to let you know about my experience.
I have purchased my device about 6 months in Taiwan as in my country it wasn't available yet.
After a month of use i experienced some issues with the power button & 3G signal, and send the device to Greece service center.
After about 8 weeks that i didn't get my device back, I couldn't keep quite about the fix duration I raised a complaint via HTC site.
Surprisingly they have apologized (more then once) and sent me an "HTC Desire HD" as a compensation & my device was fix in a matter of days
Now things go terribly wrong, i got my device broken!!! and not by me, you could clearly see that in the attempt of pulling the screen out of the cover they have BROKEN it!!!
Yet again i found my self complaining about the "FIX" and the conclusion of the investigation that HTC raised was that i have broken it ???:silly:
Luckily for me i have talk with the local distributor about my case and he have changed my cover for FREE (yes, yes FREE!!!)
After all that saga i have found that the signal issue was not fix and i have send the device again to HTC Greece center.
They have signed on the delivery of the package on the 26/10/2012
UNTIL TODAY (AFTER 8 WEEKS) THEY ONLY SAY THAT THEY ARE WAITING FOR SOME PARTS TO FIX MY DEVICE!!!
I'm MAD for the premium money i had to pay for such a service.
I'm kind of HTC freak and had 8 different devices for about 6 years,I think that it's not becoming to such a large company to have service issues.
Hopefully will get my "ONE X" soon and start to enjoy it
Have you all a nice weekend and Merry Christmas.
Dotan.
Worsrt service in greece
I just got screwed from htc greece today...
I send my phone for repair the first time for screen scratches as i bought the phone and had scratches.
And after a month of lying that they cant see the serial number of the device i got it back with a note saying that they found no problem... a month to tell me they found no problem.
Second time i send it in after 5 months of having the device for the wi fi problem and those bastards at htc greece kept my phone for 40 days and then i tryed to contact them they said that they changed the battery and the motherboard and are waiting a third part NOT TRUE i got the device nack with the repair note saying that they only changed the motherboard.
After almost 2 months i got my device with a diferent problem it looses gsm signal and i have to restart the phone to get signal.
Here is the good part i send it back and they told me they wont accept my waranty because the screen is not in perfect place and i have to pay 180 euro for the repair WTF, the way i see it they are lying to avoid the waranty since they are the ones who opened my phone 3 times.
Screw htc greece they are thiefs trying to avoid my waranty, i even told them ok lets asume that the screen somehow moved why wont you change the damn faulty motherboard you installed, and they answer "sorry since the screen is a bit missplaced we cant accept the waranty".
Htc greece = fraud now i have to press charges for fraud...
Why did i even bother to leave the samsung sceen this was my first and last htc device.
No doubt it was a great device and it still is but htc greece service is the mafia of mobile phones..
sorry to hear that my friend, hope you'll get the device soon!! i have it for 3 weeks now and its amazing, so hope they'll get it fix so you could enjoy it too!
Tell them "A yamissoo roofiyanos"
Sent from...... Who cares any way.
they insist i have to pay...i contacted my lawyer and he will press charges for fraud. Such a same for a so great device to have such a lame servise.
To kedp it short i send in my device for the wi fi issue and they send it back with a faulty motherboard that they installed tha loosed gsm signal completely and i have to restart
And they dont accept my waranty because they say the screen is a bit missplaced and they are the ones who opened my phone 3 times for repairs.
The irony is that i didnt want to root so i wont loose the warranty...
man..if u want premium service..buy an Iphone....and in 5 days u'll recieve one new.
i think that my htc one x got some wifi issues but after reading some of the complaint about the services, i'm kind of afraid to send it for repair now.
Thanks Guys.
I really hope to get my HTC OneX soon.
One thing for sure is that will sell it as soon as possible and will move to a better service oriented company.
"nemer12" i know you are right about the service, but iPhone????
HTC should reorganize there stuff and understand that without service they will be in the same spot as RIM today.
Will keep you posted.
from what i understand its better to solve the wi fi isue your self since you wont void the waranty.
you void the waranty if you remove the motherboard where the waranty sticker is
If you send it in for.service... then you are for a treat, they might even whant to avoid the waranty and try to make you pay like they did to me
Hi Guys,
Another week has passed, and we start week number 9.
Still no word from HTC service center about repair time frame.
I have also send a note to VP of customer care in FB :fingers-crossed: , but didn't get any reply just yet.
Really hope that my phone is not lost forever in there system.
Keep you posted in a week.
if i have to pay for the wifi fix then i will go to law ...because it's not my fault and yes...but i hope germany and there " HTC service" is not so bad like in other countries...
propably you will be fine i dont think service in germany act like in greece, in greece they try to robe you, i bet if i had a single scratch they would say that scratching my phone voids the waranty.
I actually got the best service. My bootloader was relocked, and they replaced my whole screen and fixed the wifi hardware problem in 5 days. Of course they charged for the screen. Also, when I told them from which shop I bought it from, they didnt even ask for a receipt!
In every country you have another office and different people, people don't want to face that but they should think a bit further then only there nose.
A company policy should be legal and straight forward in a contract but a company can't help it if they have some lazy dickheads working for them who are fat up of the daily routine (which I can understand as well in certain circumstance :laugh
or some moaners on a forum who like to kill because they are not satisfied with 'some service' if you know what I mean.
I personally had one issue with a phone of HTC (a few years ago) but they were so friendly on the phone when I called them, they asked me some details and picked up and returned the phone fixed in a couple of days.
Ofcourse if you buy a second hand phone on eBay with a limited or no warrentee you won't have the same service by HTC.
The phone I talk about I got as a present from someone who donated it to me from the US as a thanks because of the roms I cooked,
but HTC didn't have a problem at all repairing a US phone in the EU.
The only problem I had with this phone is that I had to pay a lot of import tax even if it was sent as a present.
You get my point? In all corners of the world you have different people and you can't just blame a company for that here on the board.
So do your moaning to the company and try to hit the dickheads, it's so wrong trying to kill a company in general, it sucks what you are doing to my opinion.
Ofcourse everyone has a different story but to my opinion it sucks if you start crying on a board like this, it's wrong and stupid.
I'm using HTC phones for years, I don't say they are perfect as 'every phone has its limits', but you will face that on any phone you think it can be good no matter which manufacturer.
Sorry about my English, it isn't perfect but I only like to make my point, and you can dig up my profile
but I never moaned about a company on the board.
You are not only trying to kill a company but also what used to be a friendly community, that's what I'm trying to explane, think further then only your nose.

or some moaners on a forum who like to kill because they are not satisfied with 'some service' if you know what I mean.

Sorry my friend, you totaly missed my point.
I have never tried to "KILL" HTC, there devices are my favorites and i have purchased 6 different models in the passed years.
i have tried to address the service support about my device more then enough for the last 9 weeks !!!
and always i find my self back i the same spot, that is the person in customer care say to me that they understand that it takes too long and they are sorry but they don't are a repair time frame.
And that my friend is not acceptable, i would think that HTC could send me a new device if they can't repair.
But there is no answer from HTC side and it's very disappointing, and i'm trying that someone will wake up and give the right service.
About all your other comments i would rather not address (lets keep it in an adult manner).
Have a nice day.
You don't need to apologise to me.
I didn't miss your point as I do not miss many moaners here on the board, moaners who do miss my point and keep continue coming here, stubborn people who probably never want to understand.
To my opinion you do try to KILL HTC as what else are you trying here, you think you will get a new phone with opening this thread?
Anyway you did made your point as I understand it's useless to answer people like you.
You too, have a nice day.

Greetings
This problem started only today. The screen literally flickers like a malfunctioning tube-light. I have dropped my Xperia ZL at the service center as they want to "observe" it. I would like nothing short of a replacement unit from Sony. It's been 30 days since I purchased the product. I also had a faulty charger when I first purchased the phone. Btw, I am from India and the phone model number is C6502.
My main intention is to get a replacement unit as I don't want my phone sent to the repair center as early as one month after purchase.
Any inputs regarding this will be greatly appreciated.

as long as u replace it within the replacement period its good ..either 15-30 days i guess .
otherwise they will only repair it .however if it is found to be a phone fault like maybe a lose wire they may not charge u
you should have straight away said replace it .
service centres here in india have a knack to be annoying and not replace it

Guess what!
I had got a faulty charger out of the box. I got it exchanged for a new one with the dealer. After 30 days, the display is screwed, flickering like a spoiled tube light.
The staff at the service center is absolutely rude and abusive and cannot communicate properly in English and the customers are made to wait for unnecessarily long durations to get a reply/answer. The problem as detected by the service center is with the phone's motherboard.
Sony India is not willing to replace my unit with a new one and is not willing to refund the amount either. They have told me that they will be replacing the motherboard only and nothing more. I don't trust these idiots anymore. What I need is a replacement unit or a complete refund.
Any suggestions?

Yes, for free. I am looking for a complete device replacement. I do not want them to replace my motherboard but the entire phone itself. Motherboard failing in a month - completely unacceptable. I just cannot imagine my new phone falling into the hands of those disgusting animals at the service center.
I just saw my xperia zl flckering or something like that. i was listening to music and lock the phone, and when I turn the screen on the lockscreen it was flickering and the song was stoped, i had to unlock it for it to stop.... mmm

Agreed I as well have come to this conclusion. Once unlocking my phones code it randomly flickers for a couple of minutes then once I let the brightness settle in (usually change to auto-brightness) I tend to not notice it. Definitely a software type of bug in .423
