I've tried soft/hard resets and updating my android/profile and I still can't connect to 4g anymore. I'm ina 4g hotspot and have been connected for the past year and a half so I know I should be able to connect which leads me to believe sprint disconnected my 4g service. I got a call the other day from sprint notifying my that I use too much data (I tether) on my supposedly unlimited data plan.
1. Is it possible for them to throttle my speed down to 2g? I've speed tested and get .15mbps
2. Is there anything I can do about this?
How much data have you been using? I used 50GB between 3g and 4g last month and they never say anything to me lol

Do you tether w/ a official sprint tethering app and pay $30 per month or w/e it is now a days? If so those have 5GB data caps.

Sprint is going through network issues currently as they are doing some maintenance so you may have been affected by that, and are you rooted and on custom roms. I myself had data issues on CM7 when I used it...last resort my friend would be to just call Sprint and see what's up..
Reset your phone back to 100% stock then test.
If it works.. look into ROM issues
if it s doesnt work, call Sprint
Please don't even mention about their network issues. Gee wiz, for almost 3 weeks I've been having problems, but only when I'm at work. I finally got this damn issue escalated to the network dept. They r going to call me when they get an estimate time of resolutiion. Its driving me nuts

Looking at possible switch to Sprint and the Evo... the lady at Sprint told me that you had to pay 30 extra dollars a month to use the hotspot. Is that still true after rooting and what not? Also any tips, suggestions are welcome, I don't know much about sprint

If you have a rooted phone, you can install wireless tether and tether your phone just like the hotspot, but without the payment to sprint. Your evo would have unlimited 4g data, but I'm sure sprint wouldn't be happy if you start torrenting through their connection.

Cool I figured it would be easy. They told me 4G isnt available here yet so Ill be stuck on 3G anyway. Anything else I should know about sprint or the Evo coming from the Hero?
EVO has unlimited data, period, so long as your roaming data usage does not exceed your non-roaming data usage. Also, please don't start racking up data just for the hell of it. Sprint's CEO has hinted that because some people are being greedy, they might do away with unlimited data, or just charge more for it (in addition to the $10 fee).
Just in time for the throttling, I've found out that the Wi-Fi on my G2 is not working as it should - even though it is connected to Wi-Fi, it'll still pull data off 3G. Also, after a few hours, the phone will simply claim that no hotspots can be found. A Wi-Fi cycle fixes this.
Yesterday morning, my phone apparently pulled in 1.73GB in 49 minutes over 3G - even though I was at home sitting behind my PC. I don't tether (got a MiFi for that) and I don't do streaming video.
T-Mobile confirmed that there is "an issue" and credited me for all the data plans on my lines, but could not remove the throttling (which brings me down to under EDGE speeds). Their only solution is to wait till the end of the billing cycle.
On my Nexus One, I never went over 2.4GB in a month, and averaged 1.8, but my G2 has already done 5.4GB this month. If I tethered, or did video I'd understand this, but I'm running the exact same apps on the G2 as I did on my N1.
The whole throttling thing is extra annoying, because my original G1 plan offered 10GB, not 5.
And of course, 20 minutes after the SMS about being throttled, I get an email advertising their new 4G network where I live.
Even after the credit, I'm pissed off- because I now have a 4G phone with 2G speeds and nobody able to fix it.
Anyone else seeing rogue data chargers or Wi-Fi issues? I'm trying some apps that claim to "fix" Wi-Fi, so I'll see whether they help reduce my data.
Why would they credit you, t-mobile doesn't charge for data overage on a smartphone.

Because I'm paying for 3G/4G data and now only get EDGE speeds due to a problem on their phone. The confirmed the Wi-Fi issues (it is a known issue in their system). Because there is no way for them to lift the throttling, I now have a period this month where I can't really use this phone outside the house. I barely use minutes, and rely on data for everything I do.
In addition to this, when I switched to the Android 3G plan, the limit was 10GB, and I was not (offiically) informed about the downgrade to 5GB. I'd gladly pay for more than 5GB, but their only option is to deal with it and wait for the next billing cycle.
so i have been thinking about this a while now, my 3g speeds are between 100 kbps to 400 if i am in a very strong area and my 4g speeds are like 1-6 megs most of the time though are around 3. my buddy has 3g and he is consistantly getting 3 megs. keep in mind that is tmobile. thinking of changing to them even with a cap after they throttle my speeds i believe i still will be faster than sprints "unlimited data" anyone else feeling this.
Welcome to the "now network". When i first got my evo last June, I would easily get 1.5-2mbps down all day. Sometime around November of last year, speeds began to drop. Since then, I have NEVER got above 100kbps up or down ever. I have full bars at my house (tower one block away) and still cant get above 100kbps. When I switch to the verizon prl, at home I have 0-1 bars on verizon, and I can still pull 2mbps easily. Sprint's network is just ridiculous.
how to use switch to verizion prl is it safe how does it work any links would be helpful i would love to at least get a meg or so lol... a bit rediculous and sprint wonders why i will never pay my bill on time.
their towers may be down since they are "trying to upgrade" their network to EVDO revB, i have the same issue however the past week there have been "Sprint Rapid Response" Trucks working on the Tower in my area
i have had that issue about a month ago i couldn't make a phone call, recieve a phone call send a text mesage nothing for a 6 days and they told me that it would be up soon and chatted with them and they told me to call a sprint customer service rep and i told them how the hell am i supposed to do that with no phone lol.. bright ass customer service reps we have to work with here on the "now network" NEVER OPERATING NETWORK IMO.

Not exactly. When running the verizon prl, you are ALWAYS on verizon, for calls texts and data. Use it too much and Sprint could charge you and terminate your service.

don't use that prl, i I used it for a month and my bill came out to 250 dollars, just call sprint data support and have reset your data or to reactivate your handset through their system. it works they did its mine. I was just getting around 200 to 400 kb Max. now its from 1.2 to 2.5. something happens to the phone when you install different rom to ur phone. slow 3g mostly happen to rooted phones....let me know if this work for u

hello, I am a sprint user since January 2015 once I got the phone I immediately rooted it and installed galaxy tools so I will be able to activate the native hotspot feature. for 2 months now my speeds where fantastic bUT for one week now my speeds on the phone R the way the where but tethering speeds have gone down to 0.5 Mbps .
I contacted sprint and asked for my MSL code number and I was able to get the code.I have changed the dss and all the throttle and my speeds on the phone have improved but nothing happened for the tethering speed.
my question is is sprint able to throttle down only the hot spot speed and if so what can I do to get my old speeds?

I suspect throttling myself but if you reboot your phone the connection usually improves. Each time the data flow chokes... REBOOT. Other than that, Sprint is working on the network/cell sites all the time and you might have to give it a few days for it to go back to normal. For example the last couple of days I have had trouble keeping a LTE signal and tethering has been acting up as well. At times it's great and other times it's not. It's been this way for me for a long time... not just the note 4 but also with the S3 and the Note 2 as well. Ofcourse the Note 4 works with the Sprint Spark network and they're constantly working on the network everywhere. I've yet to figure out how come Sprint isn't able to "fix" the network and make tthings work dependably after a few years now. You'd think after "working on the network" for three years, they might have something respectable accomplished... but that's not the case. They can work on the network for the next ten years and it will still be subpar to pre-paid data service. That's just a shame. But when it does work well, it's definetely good enough for me especially with an unlimited plan. LOL
I've personally haven't had issues with throttle. I did however get a termination letter for using a lot of data. Which i called them about, nothing happened. I did have the unlimited all plan.

If you don't mind how much data did you use? Typically the only time you get a termination letter is when you use excess of 800mb of data while roaming. I have used over 200gb of data on my note 3 for months in a row (was over the summer in florida where LTE was amazing) and never gotten said letter. However someone I knew had used about 1.2gb while roaming (the contract I believe says 800mb allotted while roaming domestically) and got the same letter a week later.

I think it was around 300gb, but not roaming. It was all on sprint network. They knew they were wrong to send that, they didn't act upon the letter. Last year the service around my work place gotten real bad. I was pretty angry about it. So I flashed the Verizon prl and used about 100gb of roaming 3g data. Never got anything either, I was trying to get kicked out. So, long story short, I am still with sprint. Actually their service has improved greatly in Chicago land area.
I tether all the time multiple devices, never slows down. Tethering at LTE speeds when I need it. I use a ton of data, we all do, all 4 lines. Never had a letter, notice etc. Sprint rocks in my area!

Speed up the data? I want to know TOO!
I never seem to have LTE Hotspot throttling issues here. Using Speedtest.net I actually get consistently faster results on my tethered devices than I do on the Note 4 alone. I usually see between 6-9mbps on phone, and 12-17 mbps on tether! And these results are only with 2-3 signal bars LTE service at my home. This Note 4 with spark puts my old S3 to shame. I think Sprint has actually improved their network in Southern California quite a bit! Spark is much faster than the old regular LTE and seems to hold a lock on the signal much better.
I get horrible signal all over the San Francisco area. Inside my home half the time I can't even make a call. Before I just give up on Sprint I thought I'd try installing the latest stock rom and whatever updates it has and see if that helps.
Can anyone tell me where I can find the latest ota update for the Sprint note 4? Would prefer to keep it rooted.
And if anyone has any other suggestions to improve the signal on the phone, I'm all ears.
Thanks

I went to SF in early Feb. this year, my Sprint Note 4 got pretty decent signal in Moscow center area. I even got weak but enough to make phone call signal in one of the big tree parks, where my friend did not get any signal at all (T-mobile). Did you ask the representative at Sprint side? It may be a phone problem.

i should have posted this info with the original post
phone is currently running:
LRX22C.N910PVPU1BOB7
prl 55028
signal strength in my house is -106dBm 33 asu
I've also emailed/called sprint about this issue - been told towers are getting upgraded. After a few months of that I was told maybe I have a bad phone and to take it into the sprint store and have them check it out. The guy in the sprint store was either a total idiot or a lying asshole cuz he said he couldn't do anything to test the phone and i should just get an airave - and proceeded to tell me it doesn't use my internet connection it just boosts the cell signal.
The only reason I haven't already left sprint is I'm on an old SERO plan and get unlimited data for $50/mo. But i almost never go over 1gb a month so having a cheap unlimited plan doesn't really do me much good when i never get a good signal.

I have the same problem with a low signal at my house and I'm in los angeles. a sprint representative went to my job and I just happen to ask him and he said just get airave to boost signal and that it was free. I called sprint right now and they were updating my profile but got disconnected due to low battery on my house phone. I'm going to ask her if she can compensate me for my dropped calls and data issues since my bro and I have been with them for about 10 years.

I think this whole 'its boosts the signal' is bull. Why does it need a fast internet connection if it's just boosting the signal? I had an airave 2-3 years ago because I lived somewhere with barely any cell signal and was told as long as i had a fast reliable internet connection, the airwave would work, and it did.
Only reason i don't get one now is because the wifi calling on the phone is very unreliable and I'm worried the same thing will happen with the airave. Plus the airave doesn't solve the problem of a poor signal everywhere else i go.
If i were you, and sprint can't resolve the problem, i'd dump them. It's not worth the hassle just for them to give you a few bucks in credit every few months.

so does the airave need to be connected to wifi so I can get signal or what? I'm lost lol.
I would drop them, but I just upgraded to the note 4 about a month ago and also have an old plan with them were its hella cheap for unlimited data.. it's hard to choose. I love the unlimited internet but not the speeds, other companies might have faster speeds but for more pay and I hardly work as it is.

Airave connects to your router (ethernet) and works great. Had one for a couple years. A nice thing about them is you can get simultaneous voice and data (because of wifi), while your at home anyway.
If you go that route DON'T let them charge you. You'll have to pay the administration fee but that's only $2 a month . If you call them every month they will credit that back.

yes I believe I'm my bro and I are zero plan. I am not completely sure but I know the data is cheap...I use data all the time because the internet connection(wifi) doesn't reach my room so I have to use data unless I use chromcast I try and use wifi
I have similar issues here in Las Vegas. Contacted Sprint and was given the usual pre programmed responses and troubleshooting steps which did nothing. I occasionally use Wi-Fi calling but it's not always reliable and periodically disconnects. I requested airwave and the rep advised me I would have to change my connectivity to gsm as it only works over 3G...Sprint, nothing but the best?
