Okay, so I updated my xperia play to 2.3.4 through flashing, so I don't have root anymore. Does anybody know of a way for me to gain root on it, without flashing back to 2.3.3? I also have the bootloader unlocked on my phone. Model number is R800x.
superoneclick worked for me when I updated to 2.3.4...

Darn, that doesnt work. I want the functions of 2.3.4 but the freedom of 2.3.3 root. Could I downgrade to 2.3.3, root it then go to flash 2.3.4?
Maybe. You should repost this in Q&A, this is General.

Lookup the voodoo root keeper(or something like tthat) in google play.
Downgrade to 2.3.3, root, then use the voodoo app to backup the root and upgrade to.2.3.4, why ypu would go to 2.3.4 on verizon is beyond me, the update sucks imo.

Downgrade to 2.3.3, then root. DO NOT UPDATE TO 2.3.4. It is a flawed system update from verizon, but if you seriously want 2.3.4 then download the ftf and flash it
Thanks guys. Imma try this voodoo root now. I really dont care about the 2.3.4 update, I just want some of the features it has to offer like screen shot and 720p recording. Anybody knows any roms thats cool?

1. pay $25 to unlock your bootloader.
2. Navigate to the xperia play development section. Look for fxp cm 7.2.0. Follow the directions.
Use the search option for more info. It's there for a reason.
Another thing I should mention is this isn't the Q&A section.

Yes I run cm7 most the time and cm9 at times, the post above mine is pretty accurate, although I do not use fxp's release for the X I use a modified version from the gsm release.

The fastest and best/easiest way to root any unlocked bootloader system 2.3.3 / 2.3.4 is by flashing Superuser in recovery :

Lol didn't think I was rude. I gave him the info he was looking for as well as a pointer for next time. I'm sure a lot of people would appreciate the forums to be clean and posts to be in each appropriate section. It makes it a lot easier for all. Also he seems to be somewhat of a new member and might of not known the rules(based on his profile). But if I came off as rude I'm sorry.

After searching the forum and reading many posts, it still is not clear to me if the 2.3.4 OTA (I'm being prompted for 4.06) will break S-Off.
When I rooted my Incredible using Unrevoked3, the custom recovery wasn't out yet or otherwise wasn't included. I believe that I am still running stock recovery (haven't flashed any ROMs).
If I do this update will I lose S-Off or lose root?
I know this topic seems redundant, but I haven't read a clear answer.
Thanks.
I'm wondering the same thing.
I just got the last issue on skyraider 4.3 working again, and I don't really want to start over.

If you are currently 's-off' the ota will NOT break root.

What if your phone is only rooted? If you update will you lose root? I don't actually own a dinc but my friends wife keeps asking me if she should update and if she will lose root if she does. Also if she has to reroot after the update do you know of any issues doing so?
I'm having enough issues trying to get everything working with rooting my htc vivid
Thanks for any help.

If the OTA actually can be accepted with your custom recovery (debatable), you would lose root IMO. I think what Stang means is that if you're s-off, you can reflash clockwork and superuser, and reaquire root easily. So it doesn't break your ability to root again.
My daughter downloaded the latest 2.3.4 and now has issues with the memory low icon. Can I downgrade to Froyo? She's finally going to let me root her phone(that I pay for).
Sorry if this isn't the correct thread for this question.
Just press install now and it will count down and not do anything

This was my experience. I managed to cp it to my SD card, before it deleted itself, and now I have to rack up a 10 post count so I can let the developers in the developer forum know I have it ready to send to whomever wants to root it and re-released it.

Ok. I got my xperia play r800i a few weeks ago. I think it's sim free since I bought it on pay as you go with a T-Mobile sim. I bought it with 2.3.3 but I updated it to 2.3.4 OTA (over the air). My question is that am I still able to root it? I just want to root it to an extent where there are no bloatwares or any hogging apps that aren't needed by me. Can someone tell me the easiest to root the phone for a noob? I've read the thread where it explains what root is but I don't understand why there are many roms/bootloaders and what is a kernal?
Look in Android development forum for xperia play. There is superoneclick and zergrush.
Sent from my R800i using XDA App
Just use SuperOneClick to root then use Titanium Backup to remove bloat
Oh ok. Thanks. But can someone tell me why there are slot of bootloaders out there and what is a kernel?
And btw, can I update over the air to any future updates if I've rooted?
So if im going to root, then should I use super one click with zergrush or doomlrod? And what's the difference?

bootloaders need to be unlocked toflash new kernels
kernel (Google it)
zergrush and superoneclick are the same basically superoneclick. and. zergrush both use the same exploit for the xperia play.
doomlrod makes customs kernels with overclocking and more

Hi there,
Is there a way to root the xplay?
I had the .42 firmware and rooted it. Then I deleted all the crap apps.
After a update with PC Companion (with phone there was an issue), my root disappeared and I tried to root it again with DooMLoRD_v3_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su but it failed.
Is there a possibility to root it with the actual firmware, or only with .42?
And I wait for the ICS update for my play, can I root it then with ICS?

If you updated to .62, it's unrootable. The exploit we've been using for root doesn't work on Android 3.0+

If u have ur bootloader unlocked it isn't
If you can, flash a custom kernel, such as DooMKerneL, and it will be rooted straight away, and that kernel works on .62 as that is what I am using now
I was also afraid of unlocking my bootloader the first time as I still have a one year warranty one my r800i. However, my dark side is dominant so I unlocked it and then that is when I started modding my Xplay. I almost bricked my phone but thanks to my friend who flashed a new stock rom (hongkong ftf lol). Now, I rarely used my pc hahaha
The .69 Firmware hasn't Android 3.0+
I wait until the update for Andorid 4.0, when it's released, then I maybe unlock my bootloader ~

I was answer both your questions in one line, sorry. It should've looked like this:
The .62 firmware and up are patched for the zergRush exploit. So root is unobtainable without an unlocked bootloader.
Also, zergRush does not work on android version 3.0+, so when ICS comes out, you won't be able to root it without an unlocked bootloader.
Pax.

Not yet. There have been relatively few major cross-device root exploits and ics is still new and relatively unused, until lots of devices have it, I don't really see a new exploit coming out.
Sent from my R800x using Tapatalk
You are still able to flash back to .42, apply ZergRush and then do the OTA, which won't remove your root.
The only downside doing so is the whole backup process since flashing the old .ftf will remove your userdata.

Check your firmware version and report back. I'll tell you if it can be rooted. If not, I'll give you the solution.

When I brought it it was 2.3.2 nd after update 2.3.4. build no. 4.0.2.A.0.42
Nd baseband vs. 8x55A-AAABQMAZM-203028D-56
What you can do is downgrade back to 2.3.3 and root. Then get voodoo ota rootkeeper. If you then back-up your root and download superuser, you will be able to ota to 2.3.4 (Make sure to check temp unroot box before ota update)
That's how I got to keep root on mine

I just want to know, what the meaning of rooted and pre rooted. I already searched on google but
Rooted means you have access to the system folders and files so you can manually change/add mods to your phone.
Pre rooted means that a Rom or kernel had the root access already installed.
To make use of the Pre rooted, usually means you have your bootloader open or unlocked.....
If you search on Google for unlocking bootloader you will find many guides And sources

Grammar failed ! Didnt notice that :silly:
rooted : you are admin and can do what you want from your phone, like made an entire backup, including system data or deleting bloatware, like the fifa app in sony xperia. bootloader is either lock or unlocked.
pre-rooted : with some stock rom, like the 4.0.4, the kernel don't let you root your phone. So talented people here make pre-rooted firmware so you can upgrade and root your phone on the go. It's the case of the 4.0.3 pre-rooted. So if you are in a 2.3 firwmare, you flash this pre-rooted 4.0.3 (kernelt+system+data) so you obtain a working pre-rooted ICS phone, root it and finaly flash a 4.0.4 kernel so you end in a 4.0.4 root phone.

I agree, Google is your friend, a very close friend, sometime sticky. When i search "root", the top search is related to android root and not root of a tree, and that even after cleaning cookies and disconnect from google or be in private session, "pre-rooted" search links to android rooting too. It's a little creepy, like if Google scan your brain to give you the best possible answer, or maybe i'm a very lucky guy
