Hi there,
Is there a way to root the xplay?
I had the .42 firmware and rooted it. Then I deleted all the crap apps.
After a update with PC Companion (with phone there was an issue), my root disappeared and I tried to root it again with DooMLoRD_v3_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su but it failed.
Is there a possibility to root it with the actual firmware, or only with .42?
And I wait for the ICS update for my play, can I root it then with ICS?

If you updated to .62, it's unrootable. The exploit we've been using for root doesn't work on Android 3.0+

If u have ur bootloader unlocked it isn't
If you can, flash a custom kernel, such as DooMKerneL, and it will be rooted straight away, and that kernel works on .62 as that is what I am using now
I was also afraid of unlocking my bootloader the first time as I still have a one year warranty one my r800i. However, my dark side is dominant so I unlocked it and then that is when I started modding my Xplay. I almost bricked my phone but thanks to my friend who flashed a new stock rom (hongkong ftf lol). Now, I rarely used my pc hahaha
The .69 Firmware hasn't Android 3.0+
I wait until the update for Andorid 4.0, when it's released, then I maybe unlock my bootloader ~

I was answer both your questions in one line, sorry. It should've looked like this:
The .62 firmware and up are patched for the zergRush exploit. So root is unobtainable without an unlocked bootloader.
Also, zergRush does not work on android version 3.0+, so when ICS comes out, you won't be able to root it without an unlocked bootloader.
Pax.

Not yet. There have been relatively few major cross-device root exploits and ics is still new and relatively unused, until lots of devices have it, I don't really see a new exploit coming out.
Sent from my R800x using Tapatalk
You are still able to flash back to .42, apply ZergRush and then do the OTA, which won't remove your root.
The only downside doing so is the whole backup process since flashing the old .ftf will remove your userdata.

Ok. I got my xperia play r800i a few weeks ago. I think it's sim free since I bought it on pay as you go with a T-Mobile sim. I bought it with 2.3.3 but I updated it to 2.3.4 OTA (over the air). My question is that am I still able to root it? I just want to root it to an extent where there are no bloatwares or any hogging apps that aren't needed by me. Can someone tell me the easiest to root the phone for a noob? I've read the thread where it explains what root is but I don't understand why there are many roms/bootloaders and what is a kernal?
Look in Android development forum for xperia play. There is superoneclick and zergrush.
Sent from my R800i using XDA App
Just use SuperOneClick to root then use Titanium Backup to remove bloat
Oh ok. Thanks. But can someone tell me why there are slot of bootloaders out there and what is a kernel?
And btw, can I update over the air to any future updates if I've rooted?
So if im going to root, then should I use super one click with zergrush or doomlrod? And what's the difference?

bootloaders need to be unlocked toflash new kernels
kernel (Google it)
zergrush and superoneclick are the same basically superoneclick. and. zergrush both use the same exploit for the xperia play.
doomlrod makes customs kernels with overclocking and more
Sent from my R800i using Tapatalk
but ive read that you can unroot if you root your phone using the doomlrod v3 exploit...
anyways, so should i root with zergrush?
you can unroot your phone using any method.

If you have bootloader locked you will need to down grade your firmware to build 42 do this download program called flashtools available on xda.
Download from xda the .42 file use flashtools to load on to phone.
Then root with either zergrush method or from flashtools.
Once rooted use ota to update to latest build 62
if bootloader is unlocked then do as described in previous posts.
All software and tools are available in general or q&a sections.

Lookup the voodoo root keeper(or something like tthat) in google play.
Downgrade to 2.3.3, root, then use the voodoo app to backup the root and upgrade to.2.3.4, why ypu would go to 2.3.4 on verizon is beyond me, the update sucks imo.

Downgrade to 2.3.3, then root. DO NOT UPDATE TO 2.3.4. It is a flawed system update from verizon, but if you seriously want 2.3.4 then download the ftf and flash it

1. pay $25 to unlock your bootloader.
2. Navigate to the xperia play development section. Look for fxp cm 7.2.0. Follow the directions.
Use the search option for more info. It's there for a reason.
Another thing I should mention is this isn't the Q&A section.

Yes I run cm7 most the time and cm9 at times, the post above mine is pretty accurate, although I do not use fxp's release for the X I use a modified version from the gsm release.

The fastest and best/easiest way to root any unlocked bootloader system 2.3.3 / 2.3.4 is by flashing Superuser in recovery :

Lol didn't think I was rude. I gave him the info he was looking for as well as a pointer for next time. I'm sure a lot of people would appreciate the forums to be clean and posts to be in each appropriate section. It makes it a lot easier for all. Also he seems to be somewhat of a new member and might of not known the rules(based on his profile). But if I came off as rude I'm sorry.
So today after watching tutorial videos and reading about it I finally made my mind and decided to flash/root my xperia arc. The build no of my stock was .431 now what I did was download the '.431 ready to root ftf' and flashed my phone, now when I tried to root it it gave me several errors mkdir failed for tmp, File exists and rm failed for *, No such file or directory and to make thing worse the memory card messed up and I had to format it and lost all the data. Now I've recovered the phone using pc companion but I failed very badly
I have no idea what exactly did I do wrong?

Read the stickys, and the individual threads for instructions.
Go to setting after flash the ready to root 4.0.3. Click at xperia. Click connectivity. Click USB connection mode. Choose MSC. The default is MTP if i not mistaken. Then root your phone and flash back 4.0.4 kernel.
This method i using when i root my phone last week. Before that it was giving me so many error.

Yes, after unlocking the bootloader flash a kernel, and then install a custom rom that's pre-rooted. Much easier way if you don't mind not sticking with stock.

Normally I use the Arcknight kernel (Get version 3.5.1 or 3.3 because 3.6 is broken), but since Sony released the new .587 build I'm sticking with this kernel for now.
Now with Roms I suggest you go with this one its really good .

You can root without unlocking the bootloader. As long as you come from ics stock with root and cwm. There's a thread about this. But yeah, there is no simple method(s) (yet)
Or you can always relock the bootloader after that. The root will intact (there's also thread about this)
