SOLVED. - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

..

There are a few roms where you can lower the dpi settings (I know you didn't ask that, just in case), others that you can change the type of font - I believe the rcmix is the only sense rom that can do that, but don't take my word for it.
And Gb miui changes the font size.
Anything more specific than that, you'll need to wait for someone else to reply.
Not too sure with the ics versions since I rarely play around with those.

I have seen the new One V, and I must admit there are quite some improvements.
That must be the new android version.
What i particularly like is the fact that you can increase the font size for sms, address book, etc.
Is there any way I can somehow get this on my (rooted) DHD?
Thanks!

On sense 3.5 it is possible to change your sms size by pinching to zoom

Or I don't know if its available in android 4, but if it is, then you could just wait as we will receive android 4 in July-august.

yes you can lower the DPI setting is almost all of NON SENSE roms... in my ICS theres a "Menu>Settings>Display>Font Size", though i nv play around with that coz im pretty satisfied with the current DPI/Font size.

Nexus One (Speak2Text) feature in Desire???

Hi
Just wondering if Desire will have same Nexus One (Speak-2-enter-text in text msgs & Google Maps etc) feature on it, plus all other cool features in N1 (as I don't own N1, nor I have used any Android phone yet so don't know if these features are in Android build or only for N1).
Can we also start a poll to take member's opinion which phone they think is better between HTC Desire & Nexus One...
Thanks
K7
None of the features are N1 only they're just features of Android 2.1 which is what the Desire runs on
According to cnet, the voice to text function is not there (out of the box)
guess it wouldn't be long before someone makes it happen
is an internet connection required for the speech2text function?
You could just install the stock android keyboard to the device to use it.
Although HTC's is incredibly accurate and seems to be able to predict exactly what you want no matter how ****ed up you mish mash at the keys
So while HTC Desire's Sense Keyboard does not support Voice to Text, the user can (without modding) switch to Android Keyboard and enjoy speech to text? Please can you confirm that? I was about to un-desire Desire because I so much expect to use S2T for posting online.

Assuming you can install the android keyboard without root, yes. One can install other keyboards without root (swype for example) so i don't see why the stock android keyboard would be any different.
There is something else to keep in mind. Just because you might be able to install the keyboard, the actual underlying support may have been removed. I don't have the desire rom installed on my nexus anymore or I would check to see if speech to text abilities were even there.

Speech to text has been there since 1.6 though, for google search and translate.
There is absolutely no reason at all why HTC would remove this they just haven't included it in their keyboard.
This means that the ability to get Speech to Text is already there embeded in the phone, you just need a keyboard with the "Speech to Text" button to make use of it in messaging.
As I m spending well few hours everyday 2 decide about which one
I should get Desire r N1... It's so tough 2 decide 1 of these 2 devices
as I like few things in N1 & few in Desire........ Text 2 Speech is
some thing I don't wan2 compromise on (I've read some where
that T2S is not very accurate at the moment but I m still so
fascinated by it), so if there is no such function available in
Desire....then I will go 4 N1.

If this functionality isn't present in the Desire upon release am I correct in assuming that someone will release a ROM where this is possible?
and also if its true that its just the keyboard that needs replacing is that something you need root to do? or can you just install a new keyboard? (Bit of a noob here)

I would assume you have the Speech-to-Text feature on the Desire, as it was previously mentioned, it's an Android 2.1 feature, not a Nexus One exclusive feature. You also don't need to install any other keyboards, as the Desire Sense keyboard has the key already, as seen at 3:12 in the following video:

For those wanting a look into the NEW Sense UI...

Hello all,
I just wanted to share this with you. I found this across my boring travels across the interwebs, and again sharing because I know a lot of people [particularly sense rom users] wanted a first look. Below is a download link for a ported rom of the Desire HD for the Evo. I do not take any credit in developing this rom, only merely making it more accessible to everyone. Enjoy.

Well, basically it IS HTC sense, end of story, though they have basically incorporated a lot of new features. Some of which I have seen are
-being able to check multiple email accounts in one app
-a "self destruct feature" which erases all data on the phone [like if you were to lose it]
-GPS and Maps auto rotate to configure to the physical direction the user is facing
-Navigation gives you a preview of the route ahead [while at a red light]
-Included themes and skins
-Included battery saving commands [some of which we see in custom roms now], shutting off wifi if batt < x %, ect
-Also, a feature that syncs your app data, and would re-sync it to a new phone
-Sort of an online data base [htcsense.com i believe] where it'll save your data [user configured] and you can have access to it where ever
and some more goodies...

Honestly, it may not be any different, but I heard of a slightly newer build. Did a search and didn't find any related threads [xda has been buggy for me as of late.] But if its a repeat, then my bad, honestly.

[Q] Paying for the Custom ROM??

Hi,
I was gifted the Sony Ericsson Arc as a replacement for my current phone the HTC Desire. After using the HTC Desire for the last 1 year , I am finding it very difficult to get used to the Sony Ericsson UI (problems like : no smart dialer, the contacts are all messed up,all the text size is huge, the randomly flickering display etc..).
I was wondering whether there is anyone or any place I can pay money to create a custom ROM. When I say custom ROM I dont mean Cyanogen or others like that (I mean the stock ROM with the proper replacements for dialer, contacts editor, facebook integration etc..) , I just want a ROM on my phone which will look and feel like the HTC Sense UI (again I am not asking for the actual Sense UI, as I understand thats impossible).
Thanks.
Any help is appreciated.

You understand the HTC apps require the sence framework, so they will not work on the arc, there are many other dialer and contacts replacements, you can download from the market, Go dialer and contacts for example is excellent
The makers of TouchPal Keyboard have a smart dialer app called TouchPal Dialer. Haven't tried it out but it's available for free on the market.
The android 2.3.3 update brought Facebook integration to the xperia range.
How does relate to my post?

Thanks for the info.
Sorry, I should have explained. You wanted a custom ROM basically a stock ROM but a replacement for the dialer, right? I was just pointing out an app using which you could replace the stock dialer (and which supported smart dialing).
Facebook integration was another aspect you mentioned.
xboxfanj posted a thread by which you could the Sense 3.0 Lockscreen using Agile Lock. You can find it here.
EDIT: Sorry, I misread your post. I thought you wanted a stock arc ROM with the necessary changes; not the HTC ROM. Ooops!
But hey, I got the Sense 3.0 Lockscreen part right. LOL!
Blagus is working on a HTC Sense port for Xperia Play http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1174309 once he starts the work it maybe matter of time once we get it for Arc since both are almost similar. If your talking about hiring someone then talk to one of the developers who are willing to accept the offer.

Well that's kind of the problem, I don't know which developer to ask. I can't do a post in the Sony Arc Development sub forum, cause the rules say I can't post Q&A queries in the forums. Is there any one I can ask or PM to find out how to build this custom ROM ??
As anyone else can tell you, a custom rom for the arc maybe a while before all the functions are workable, the camera is the problem, so maybe do as others have suggested and use third party apps to get the experience your after
Sent from my LT15i using XDA App
The main problem with custom ROM is going to be Camera function because Arc has the latest Camera technology they haven't released the drivers or source for it so developers can make it work on custom ROM. So we have to wait until someone manage to port one so others can use it.

However I have explained in my first post that the kind of custom ROM I am asking is based on the stock ROM with appropriate replacements for the dailer, contacts, facebook integration, text size etc... Basically I want to simulate a Sense UI.
Perhaps a theme could you help you out for the time being till someone makes a custom ROM for you? At least you should be able to get similar icons, background wallpaper etc.

[Q] [REQ] Method of UNIVERSAL Tablet UI Mod for ICS/JB

SORRY TITILE SHOULD BE: [Q] [REQ] Method of UNIVERSAL Tablet UI Mod for ICS/JB, the forum won't let me mod that...
I don't really want to ask similar questions again... I've been looking SOOOOO hard on the internet for this, but all I got are all kinds of ParanoidAndroid ports for other devices, device- and ROM-specific mods not universally applicable and (finally) this thread Link showing a likely but very vaguely descripted method to enable tablet UI for ICS.
I know E4G has already got satisfactory ROMs for this purpose, but I have an HTC Incredible S (no separate Q&A forum for it), which hasn't got AOKP-JB (it has tablet UI included in settings) yet. It's now on CM10.
So I'm asking: how to enable tablet ui for any ICS/JB ROM? (It's OK even if it requires modding framework/services.jar/etc.)
Hope mates here can help for a bit. Thanks

Hrmm....check around in the /data folder to see if there is a local.prop. That would be the only thing i could think of that would override the build.prop, but usually that has to be manually created anyways. What is the default density of CM set to on the Inc S?

1. build.prop density changes work but DOES NOT bring device into tablet, only shrinks display...
2. IncS has a default density of 240 as most WVGA phones.
3. /data/local.prop not found.
Thank you sir for replying and giving possible solutions But does the answer really goes in .prop files? I mean, in the ParanoidAndroid thread link I provided, 2nd post says for ICS some changes can be done to some .jar framework to lock the preference, but the guide doesn't tell which and exactly how... Could anyone shed light on that?

How low have you tried setting it? Eventually, it will enter tablet mode. Try intervals of 20(make a nandroid before hand just in case) I can't remember if WVGA screens need 120, 160, or 180.. one of those should do it though. Tell ya what, I'll try on my Epic which is on CM 10.1.
At 240 is normal
At 180 its almost got a GS3 feel to it. Very spacious.
I skipped 160 and 140.
At 120 it has entered Hybrid UI.
Everything below that point( down to at least 20, which isn't usable lol) is still the Hybrid UI.
I guess that's why on JB, you have to mod the framework. Google is moving away from the traditional tablet ui.
On ICS though, the DPI change will work. I know that for sure. Lol

Is that so? Once on my Epic at CM9 I tried a dpi as low as 120 and the SystemUI just FCs again and again. This time on IncS I had the density also changed to 120 but it enters a Nexus-7-ish phablet mode, and things have become way too small to operate on.
And BTW, the calculated tablet threshold DPI for WVGA is 128.
Damn that Google, I don't so care about Nexus 7 using the phablet UI (it should, really) but why the hell is Nexus 10 doing the same, you wanna make it a giant phone?! AND you removed tablet mode support just because of this?! How utterly childish

The reverse method should work. Just look for the PhabletUI code and make sure that the relevant sections in the guide I linked to in my thread point the device towards PhabletUI instead. You could also do the same for PhoneUI if you wanted.
If at any point you want to convert the new JB 4.2 UI back to Tablet UI, I used the Tabletizer Alpha app here. When it was done, I did have to move the update.zip to my computer and repackage/resign it for my tablet as well as edit the update-script but the jar files worked.
