Wifi Tether Reboots - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I have noticed this after I use the Wifi Tether app. The app works great, but after I stop tethering my phone reboots. Anybody else have this issue?

nope. and i tether every single day(thats my only home internet), never a reboot after tethering or during. are you stock or rooted? if rooted, what kernel/rom?

I'm on Liquid smooth running latest stable franco kernel. Also after it reboots I get the activation screen.

May not solve the issue for you, but it did for me when I would use Wi-Fi tether app and phone would restart. Uninstall Wi-Fi tether app. Power your device down, remove the backing, then remove battery followed by SIM card. Doesn't have to be out long. The idea is to just remove it and make sure when you put the SIM back in that it clicks in place.
Put the phone back together and turn the phone on. Reinstall Wi-Fi tether and you should be good to go. Hope this helps.

Thanks, I will give this a shot.
Update: This did not solve this issue. Anybody else ever have this issue. It does hinder my tethering, but it is rather annoying.

Hurley, I am also having the same issue. I am also using the franco kernel, but I am on the stock 4.0.4 rom.

Ok I had the same issues as well with my Galaxy Nexus and all you should have to do is uncheck the option in settings WiFi-driver reload. Once I did that I was on WiFi and used WiFi Tether to test which is worked and then I turned it off and my phone wouldn't connect to my WiFi at home so I had to toggle it in the settings. Hope this helps

Having the same problem here. I'll try disabling the force driver restart.

Tether or Sprint Mobile Hot Spot

Hello everyone, I cannot connect to my tether or mobile hotspot, The device or laptop picks up the tether and connects but no internet. On my evo it will show usage being active but On the device or laptop it keeps saying limited connectivity. Has anyone had this problem? How did you solve it?
I have the same problem too on miui rom
I've never used hot spot, but in WiFi tether, check and see if access control is on or off. It you have it on and want it on, then make sure you give permission to the device accessing it.
If not try rebooting the phone. If that fails, clear the data from the WiFi tether app so it loads the binary files again the next time you open the app.
One of these always works for me.

Are you using the app or the built in hotspot?
When I open Tether, Hotspot comes on, on its own or at least the hotspot app opens up (but doesn't start up).

Oopsie....hit the thanks button by mistake. lol
Ok, when you flashed Myn's rom, did you keep the stock kernel or did you flash another kernel after the rom? I think it comes with the stock HTC kernel which won't allow the wireless tether to work.

Installed Synd.ROM Frozen(malanga) WiFi Tether is not working and crashes that phone?

Installed Syndicate ROM Frozen (Malanga) Full version, and when i turn on the WiFi tether(3.0 pre11) that comes with the ROM, it turns on automatically the Sprint Hotspot, then the phone crashes turns off and thenb back on, by itself
I get both App. running at the same, what do i have to do, to run the wifi tether only????????
thanks
In wifi tether go to settings and the first option is device profile. Make sure you have the right one selected. And yes, wifi tether does turn on the sprint hot spot app. That's how it works in infrastructure mode.

Wifi Tether issues

Hi guys! I'm back again with more questions..
So, my phone is rooted and running Blazer 3.8.
I started off using the built in Sprint Hotspot, which works wonderfully, but uses up way too much power and gets way too hot while running. So, I decided to go to the Wireless tether app I used on my old EVO.
however, All of the newer versions (beta 3.0 and above) fail to work, period. At all.
The older versions work, however they fail to work when using Encryption of any form. (all of them force me to use WEP and I would like to use WPSK)
Also, i'm unable set it to make itself into a true WiFi network, instead it's an AdHoc network.
How can I fix these issues?
Thanks!
~Saph
The solution is to use the sprint app, not sure what Samsung does to their phones...

There must be some way to get the WiFi tether app to work properly, right?
Sprint hotspot drains power, even while plugged into the wall..

Check to make sure you don't have one of those "Green" cables. (The stock Samsung cable is one of those I believe).
You might want to re-flash the rom too, I use this almost daily and see very little power drain.

That sounds pretty normal to me. Anyway, back when I was stock rooted the wireless tether app didn't work for me either. I ended up using an application called OpenGarden which worked pretty well. Now that I'm on Blazer, I use the Sprint Hotspot app and it doesn't drain a tremendous amount of power.

SPRINT SG3 tether not working

I haven't used my tether for a few days now, but I know it was working fine before the last update. I'm rooted and running LG2. Im using wifi tether for root. It starts fine and says it is running, but it's not broadcasting. Even I try to do a manual connection to the SSID it wont connect. I didn't think that last update changed anything with that, but like I said, It worked fine before that.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks!
Edit: sorry saw the last sentence saying you were rooted, my bad. Do you plug your phone in when running it? For some reason wifi turns on when you plug the phone in.. And that can mess with tether. I usually plug in, reboot (its fast enough lol) then run tether, which will take over the wifi feed on its own.
Did you have root after the update? If you're rooted, you have to wait for a rooted update to come out on here. Otherwise, an OTA update can mess that up. Not sure if that's the case here but thought you'd like a quick reply..

NP....I am plugged in, but the wifi says it is off. I turned the wifi on and I get the "what the hell" mesage, then I turn it back off and start root again and still get the same results. I will try rebooting the phone and see if that helps. Thanks!
EDIT: Sorry....I meant I start tether again....not root!

OK so the reboot didn't help, but unplugging my phone did. If I start the tether with my phone unplugged it works, but it stops working as soon as I plug it in again. So now how do I fix that? LOL! Thanks for the help though....at least it will work until the battery dies!!

Yeah, something with hooking the charger up is a mess, and it's a bit of trial and error, it might take more than one reboot while hooked up. What you might want to do now, if you're off battery, is turn off tether, plug in the charger, wait like 3 seconds, then re-activate tether to get it to control wifi again?

Try going into settings in WiFi Tether and changing Device Profile to Samsung Galaxy Nexus (CDMA/LTE). Then while still in settings hit menu and (Re)-Install binaries/configs. Worked for me. Only difference is I'm on Verizon but that shouldn't matter. :good:
Any luck, Karma?

I am able to get it to work by jumping through all the unplug/replug disable/reenable hoops......but then the tether just stops running automatically after like 10-15 mins..... I just read about the power save settings so I turned that off and I'm going to try that now and see what happens.
Thx portrub! That is the profile I am using, but I havent tried reloading binaries. I'll give that a shot too!
Thx for all the help guys!
UPDATE: Ugh....no luck. The wifi still shuts off automatically........it's really hard to play D3 while im at work when I keep losing connection!! LOL!!

My wifi tether is still turning off when pluggin in power and after about 15 - 20 mins of use. Any suggestions? I've tried all these things and none work.
I have 2 GS3s, both stock rooted to get the wifi tether working and this is only happening on one of them.
OK not for nothing but I can't even get this to work at all is there a update for the app ?

Sprint SGS3 Wifi Tether closes itself...help!

Hey guys,
I am enjoying my Sprint variant Galaxy S3 a lot, but after rooting and installing the wifi tether/hotspot app, it works great, but I am having some issues and was wondering if anyone else had the same issue or if someone knew how to resolve this issue.
The issue:
While everything works just fine for a while (I am posting this thread using wifi tether) often times I see the wifi connection has dropped on my laptop and when I check my phone the wifi tether app is no longer running. I have to restart the app and everything is fine. This is getting pretty annoying as it happens very randomly! I haven't had this issue on my Epic 4g Touch at all and was just curious if maybe there was something I was missing or if perhaps others were experiencing this as well. I drop time varies a lot...sometimes I can use the connection undisturbed for 1+ hours, but other times the app closes after 10 minutes and requires a restart...its just more of an annoyance than anything as the program does work every time its restarted, but It would be nice if I could get a solid/stable connection going despite the lackluster 3g speeds.
If anyone knows a fix or could help me out, this would be much appreciated! I did a search and couldn't find any open posts about this :[
Thanks!

Hmm... Ok It disconnects about every 15 minutes or so... I tried changing the profiles to multiple different ones (Nexus CDMA, Galaxy S2, Generic ICS) All with the same result...it disconnects and I have to click the white wifi button to restart the tethering. :/ Happened on stock rooted and I just did a full wipe and installed the Blazer ROM and seems to be the same. Thanks again if anyone has any kind of input.

Hey man...it seems like it holds on to the signal longer and when I uncheck it, it dims the screen but it doesn't fully shut off...it seems to like that and keep the connection. When I manually turn the screen off it will disconnect me again. I hope its not my phone! Its definitely better than before!
Well unfortunately, I always have my phone plugged in when running the app so the screen being on isn't a problem for me.. there are some apps out there ( i can't seem to remember the names right now ) that will try to prevent the app from being killed by android's task manager, i'd look into them... good luck
