[Q] T-mobile UK signal problems/settings - HTC One X

My HOX is branded vodafone (so no 1.29) but i am using T-mobile uk.
My problem is the signal disconnects quit often specially when at home.
Normally for a few seconds and then comes back.
Also in call quality is ****.
Cannot get the apn settings from T-mobile(???????) so i have to enter them manually.
Not sure if i have them right.
Is this problem related to 3 network thread?
Is this because switches from T mobile to Orange or vice versa?
Thanks in advance

im using t-mobile in mine, and its all fine and dandy, have you considered unlocking your phone and using a custom rom that used .29? im on arhd 6.0.0 and its working pretty fantastically

I normally root all my android phones but in this case i was waiting to see if there were any hardware problems. (a lot of issues reported here on xda)
But i would like to get rid of vodafone crap.

Rooted and installed ARHD. (1.29)
But i just got a phone call and the background noise still here.
And the signal still drops for a few seconds.
Any ideas?

I would say there is a probably a hardware fault with the phone.
I'm with t-mobile and I have no problems with signal drop or call quality.

PM me your email address and I will forward on screenshots of my APN's later
I have no call quality issues on T-mobile. Is it just one area or all?

Normally when at home but i still have 2 bars GPRS.
If the problem is the poor signal at home i'll be stuck with it for 1 year

3G connection frequently stops/hangs

Hi Folks,
I've had my SIMfree Desire for a few days now and since the off I've been having some problems with the 3G data connection.
No matter what app I'm in, though the signal meter shows I have a very strong 3-4 bar 3G connection, after a short initial burst of HSDPA the connection seems to just stall and hangs until I restart the connection. It does this in both my work and home cell zones some 40 miles apart so it doesn't appear to be a problem with the cell zone. Sometimes it'll clear and carry on quite quickly, other times I get bored of waiting.
It drives me nuts in the browser and Market where surfing becomes neigh on impossible. In other apps (Stocks, Friendstream/Facebook, News, Android keyboard, etc.) I can usually come back later and I may or may not be lucky.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
I am on Orange so I'd be grateful if someone who's on Orange with rock solid 3G performance could post/PM me their settings so that I can check mine - though I haven't messed with them.
Could an app be causing this?
Many thanks!
___________
Update: From posts here, and the experience of a mate with a Desire on Vodaphone, it seems that many others are experiencing this problem regardless of network.
I've had all my settings checked by Orange Tech Support and though they made some changes they made absolutely no difference.
I emailed HTC about this yesterday but when I get home tonight I'll be following that up with a phone call. Can we all do the same so they actually realise it may be a problem with the phone itself?
Cheers All!
I have the same issue too with my Orange handset, thought i was in a bad area at the time but maybe not.... hmmmmm.....
I got this issue yesterday as well
I tried to browse the internet via 3G ... and it just stucked ... only the "up arrow" were lighted (traffic up) ... but no traffic down.
The icon went from 3G then H ... then 3G ...
Very frustrating ...
But after about 5 minutes ... I was able to browse internet.
I hate this.
Unlocked, unbranded, htc retail version.
I have an unlocked Desire on Voda and it only loses connection when I *try* to send a picture message.
Could someone else try test this please?
It's happening for me too. Just got this yesterday and on the Vodafone network. This is the perfect phone for me, but with this hanging / drop out 3G issue is really frustrating. Hope HTC fixes this soon or i will be stuck with a lemon

So most of the posts here confirm that it is the phone and not the network, as there is another thread with T-mobile users have issues with 3G.

I saw that thread but didn't add to it. It does appear that it isn't just T-Mobile and my phone, but something that many folks are experiencing regardless of network or area.
From what I can read of the other thread it appears that T-Mobile are accept responsibility as a network problem but as others on other networks are seeing the same issues I'm not convinced it is a network problem.

I think you could be on the mark this one, now a few operators are running the handset the issue is becoming apparant not just on T-Mobile devices.
Certainly something that HTC needs to address. T-Mobile, Orange and Voda customers all experiencing the same issue.....hmmmmm
It is definitely a problem for more Desire owners. A bit anoying if you are a hardcore mobile Internet user. And indeed, sending a picture to Facebook is already too much over 3G.
Do you guys also have problems maintaining a connection? for example today my data connection disconnected twice.. The only way to get it connected again is by enabling and disabling airplane mode.
Ive had same problem on my hero but not noticed on my Desire, both are on orange, happens loads on Hero Orange not able to explain must admit i just live with it as like the phones so much.
My problem seems to be fixed. When I started using the phone out of the box my apn setting for Vodafone Australia had been detected. What I did to make it work, was that I deleted the apns and reentered from scratch. My 3g connection seems to be more stable and consistent now.
This happens on mine also, and I've used 3 operators, in UK and Australia. It just hangs the connection, so I just have to switch connection off or go airplane mode, it will then work fine for a while.

When you have this problem ... Did you see the "3G icon" keep changing to "H" (HSDPA) then "3G" then "H" ?
That was in my situation. It looks the phone cannot maintain its data connection.
When it works, it works and fast, either on "H" or "3G".
Note that I am checking this problem on the same location, at my home And it is covered by "H" (hence sometimes it works).
Could this be a problem on signal stability of the mobile operator/provider?
I am thinking to buy a prepaid from other mobile operator and test it.
PS: I am using T-Mobile NL atm, planning to test Vodafone NL prepaid.
I'ce been browsing the web for about half an hour.Uploading, downloading stuff.
No problems with the connection whatsoever.I live in Antiparos Greece and my provider is Cosmote.
I have a sim free, unlocked, retail HTC Desire running the latest firmware and stock settings.

I've noticed this as well, when it's on 3g I can't actually browse but on g or h then it's fine! I'm on t-mobile.

Not exactly what I want to hear
I have the exact same problem with my HD2 on TMOBILE UK and am getting the Desire tomorrow BECAUSE of this.
I REALLY hope it won't be the same case, in that case it's a common thing.
HD2 AND DESIRE both have this issue.
There is/was a well acknowledged issue with the Nexus One and 3G connection (on T-mobile) - search it on Google.
There's nothing so far (that I've read) that says it is definitely the phone or the network.
I have the same problems.
Please contact the HTC support about this issue, perhaps they will release a fix for it.

Orange - Continous Dropping Of Calls

It seems like all my incoming calls are going straight to answerphone now, my phone never rings!!!
I have phoned orange and they have said switch to GSM only for the next 24 hours whilst they compile a report.
Switched to GSM, tried to call my mobile from my house phone and funny enough - answerphone again!!!
Does anyone else have this issue?
I swear orange didn't used to be like this and it seems to have got worse now Im using the desire
Try your SIM in another phone. Does it still happen?
If it doesn't it's just signal/coverage is low in that area.
If it does, try it when you're in another area? If it's still happening get Orange to check for a "Do Not Disturb" being active on your account.
Hope this helps.
theres a whole bunch of problems at the moment with Orange as they are merging with T-Mobile and there are technical steps being taken as part of that merger.
The signals Im finding are very unreliable, no problems with dropped calls (that I know of ) but my 3g is off every few days.
Orange arn't handling this very well from a customers point of view, no communications, no warnings of poor service.
Done a test and calls come through all ok when mobile data connection is off.
The phone doesn't like internet active whilst a call is coming in.
This is a possibly a mobile network error, whereby a service provider i.e. orange hasnt setup 'DTM' which handles your data connection and incoming calls by priority i.e. cutting internet off when a call comes in.
But then some have said on other phones using T-mobile or again orange (both not supporting DTM) calls have come through ok whilst actively using data connection i.e. downloading app.
I was on orange 2 months ago with a HTC touch HD and this did not happen at all.
So... It looks like it may be Eclair 2.1 which is the issue... IMO...
Perhaps Froyo will solve it...!

I'm using the Orange retail raped version rom, so whatever radio version comes with that.
Sorry don't know much about radio versions etc... how can I find out what one it is for you?
Done a couple more tests...
Settings - Wireless & Networks - Mobile Networks - Network Mode...
Now changed to WCDMA only, so now it's only using
Icon on phone
3G
3G+ i.e. HSPDA
Instead of this aswell:
G i.e. 2G
Dropped calls have gone down somewhat as 3G has the ability to work with both data & voice at the same time depending on the class of the device.
I suffer this as does my friend and he is on a different phone and os so its definitely a network issue.

Agreed, several people I know on Orange on various phones have been having trouble lately. And today people tell me they got an engaged tone, not even voicemail when they rang me. Definitely the network.

[Q] ORANGE - data drop on all roms

Hi All,
(if this has been answered before, i have tried searching and couldn't find the answer)
I have a debranded, unlocked, rooted orange htc desire running on pays froyo v1.8
the radio i'm running is 32.43.00.32u_5.09.00.20 as advised by most devs that create the roms.
since debranding my phone my 3g connection has been really unreliable. specifically it drops off, I then have to go to airplane and then back on and it works or reboot. It has been the same across all roms i've flashed.
has anyone else had this problem? and is it a software issue or should i get a new phone because its hardware?
Is it just 3G? Does it stay on if you force it onto GSM only?
My Orange branded but unlocked device would miss calls, not send SMS and couldn't even call voicemail when it was acting up. This went away if you forced 2G.
Problem has gone away now though. My workmate had the same issues on Orange, see is thread on Android foums here.
Yep, I have the same problems now. I was originally using vodafone, but switched as they annoyed me. Now the data connection with orange is extremely erratic and sometimes I lose signal all together.
It's the same on both LeeDroid and Modaco.
Same problem here. Have to reboot the phone to get the connection back. Using OpenDesire.
But is on both 2G and 3G?
Try dropping the handset into GSM only.

Yeah, both. I had Orange send me a new sim. Now I can connect to 3g, but sometimes it just refuses to recieve any data. At least I actually have a signal though.
Me too. What i'd like is for someone still on the stock orange rom to send us their build.prop file. Anyone?

Orange Desire dropping calls and diverting calls to VM

It seems to have got worse over the last few days. At times I need to make more than one attempt to dial out, the calls drops unexpectidely, and people who ring me sometimes get redirected to Voicemail even though my phone is on with good signal. Have phoned orange multiple times about it, and after diagnosing with them, still at a loss. Anyone else expereincing similar?

P.s. the phone is not rooted, however very recently I used ADB to install all apps to SD.
oh, the phone has also rebooted a few random times on it's own aswell over the last few days. I think it's all linked.
Have inserted the sim card into another phone. On my desire, while testing, out of 8 incoming calls, 2 went to Voicemail. On my other phone, out of 20 incoming calls, 0 went to voicemail. Seems that it's a fault with the phone and not Orange reception. Going to phone HTC.
Suggested I do a hard reset. I might aswell root my phone and install stock if that is the case.
Any suggestions before I waste a day?
All my previous devices, were on orange, the service was awful, texts coming hours and somtimes days late, calls going str8 to vm, slow data ect, when i got my desire i changed to tmob, and ive never looked back

Hi
I used to have an X10, that frequently put peoples calls direct to VM in full reception (even with a mate standing next to me calling it went to VM). Now i have the desire and still the same issues, I get random texts telling me I have missed calls when the phone never rang. So I'm not sure if its Orange or Android. I was previously on o2 and didn't have these issue
Update the radio part ?

I know that, but in my area, i only just got gprs with orange, but with t-mobile i get an excellent hsdpa signal, and there cheaper, £5 for a months unlimited internet

If you are on GPRS (i.e. no 3G coverage at your location), and you are actively using the GPRS connection (including for background data), then it will block incoming calls as if the phone were in a call already. This is a limitation of GPRS*, and it is the same on all UK networks and all phones.
This doesn't happen with 3G/HSDPA, or if you are using Wi-Fi for your data.
I don't know if this is the OP's problem, because it shouldn't cause dropped calls once established (or affect outgoing calls, I think) but it is the effect behind what some of you are describing.
*technically, it doesn't happen with certain GPRS devices (class A?), but there are very few such phones, and there are certain network measures to avoid it, but no network uses them.
so if somebody could write an app that suspends data connection if on 2g and allows data for 3g only, then problem solved?? Obviously only for people who are not really bothered by loss of data sometimes.

I'm always on GPRS party because there's no 3G/HSDPA at home nor at where I work. So I've hard-set the phone to be GSM only and I've never missed a called so far. Even had calls come in mid facebook usage....
Edit; Tried it again now,
Box standard non-branded desire, Orange Pay As You Go.
a G icon to the left of my reception bars.
I was updating the weather widget both Up and Down arrows where lit up.
Rang from my office phone to my desire..No problems at all.......
my data connection is usually switched off (saves battery), so that isn't the cause,

Odd. Maybe Orange changed something - I've never tried with them. The network feature is called DTM, but I didn't think anyone had turned it on. I frequently miss calls on O2 because of this.
The Desire also appears to frequently lie and reports the wrong symbol much of the time - so at work with only GPRS (in the middle of nowhere and we have our own cell on our site), mine often says H for HSDPA, and yet the same problem occurs. I suppose it's possible that you're actually on EDGE.
There's a thread about it here: ht tp://androidforums.com/htc-desire/68995-not-receiving-calls-when-browsing-gprs.html
used to have this problem with my x10 on orange until i flashed a new rom and updated the baseband, hasn't dropped a call since....... the wife recently upgraded her phone to desire hd and she is now having the dropping calls/forwarding to vm problem. i reckon its got to be something wrong with the radio orange are using, get it flashed and see if it helps? that is my plan with the missus phone!
I had this happen with my phone on o2 on 3g I notice my signal bar wasn't high though an drops easily. One day i got loads of delayed msgs an calls going straight to vm. I switched my setting to use 2g only an now no problems.

That's the same work around i have been using. 2G also seems better for battery life, so now I prefer it over 3G.
OP - my partner has been experience EXACTLY the same issues as you with her AMOLED Desire.
To the point where we are possibly going to root it soon, in the hope that a new ROM/radio will resolve the issues. Not sure how viable this is though...

Radio problems.

So, i'm in the UK with my nice shiny OP3 (on Three UK) - I am rooted with twrp, but same applies on stock.
The radio in this phone seems to prefer H+/3G to 4G, even though where i live, i have full bars on both. My nexus 5 always prefered 4G, and the OP3 is set to prefer 4G but 90% of the time drops to 3G/H+
Another interesting thing, if i use the testing menu to force LTE only, even if it's on 4G already, completely stops any signal getting through for a number of minutes until it decides to connect sometime later. I have full LTE signal in my room too.
Is this a radio problem that could be solved in the future with a software update? not seen anyone else with this issue!
FYI, when it is on 4G, it's super fast and stays connected until a reboot, where the whole process starts again

APN Is exactly the same as my nexus 5, and i even added a new one. Same deal.
I'm an IT Professional, just not a developer. i've done everything i can think of. 4G does work, but only when it wants to. My phone is also registered with my carrier correctly.
Bump on this anyone?
I am having a similar problem I guess. I have the dual sims installed and one sim randomly shows no range. Further, the network preference is not the way it is supposed to be - Chose it as 4G and if 4G is not detected it falls back to 2G.

I did notice when I do have LTE it's fine but it won't re lock onto LTE after a call on Three where it has to drop to H
I'm having a problem where the phone catches 4G+ "carrier aggregation" and it'll jump from to 4g+ to 4g and back to 4g+ really fast like almost flashing . And speed test are showing low numbers. T-Mobile USA.

I first put my sim into slot 1 when I first got the device, I was having the exact same issue. I found that the data priority sim, or if you only have one sim needs to be in sim slot 2.

Yes exactly. And even then it doesn't show up straight away despite 3/4 and usually full signal. Sometimes just putting it into standby mode and leaving it 20mins can sort it... Until I get another call lol. Wondering if it's just a software or firmware issue that could be patched. Lte is fine it's just never preferred despite the options being set

APN is not the universal response. Here he faces a problem of inaccurate network type choice, APN is only to have acces to internet through the provider's proxies. It's a radio problem clearly, the baseband is probably to be corrected by OnePlus.
It's really a strange thing to see those network type issues, MMS issues are still present after all those years.

This is what I thought. It's probably an easy fix for oneplus or rom developers. Custom radios are nothing new. Let's hope so anyway!

seems like a incompatibility with an selected cellular operators.

Could be but I'm doubting it. OP3 Has full support at least for my carrier on both bands they use (3 & 20).. Never know, the devs here will figure it out if oneplus don't

Same issue here, have never got it to say 'LTE' for me since I got the phone, best it does is 4G whilst my Galaxy S5 would happily pickup LTE. Just wondering what UK users have there preferred network type set to? Mine is on GSM/WCDMA/LTE I assume that is right as that is what it went to itself and have tried LTE or LTE/WCDMA too.
