"FREE" causes a lot of issues with a lot of consumers, mostly with expectations. Plus, the "freebie hunter" crowds, the kind that will bring 50 coupons to the grocery checkout aisle and buy groupons to places that they already go to every week (and are cheap to begin with) are horrible customers.
Just adding the penny makes a world of difference.

Yes. You're entitled to return your device if you're not satisfied with it within a particular period.
Just make sure that they cancel your contract as well.
Amazon has been pretty nice with their return policy, I have returned items that doesn't have issues but I wasn't happy with. I just wrap up everything neatly as possible and usually get full refund minus shipping.
I know there are many people on contract, but for me I wouldn't even pay 1 cent and enter two years contracts. You have to pay double ETF if you need to change carrier, one to Amazon and one to the Carrier.
Early Termination Fee (ETF)
If I terminate this Agreement before the end of my Commitment, I will pay an ETF of up to $325 if purchasing certain specified Equipment (e.g., Smartphones) OR up to $150 for other Equipment for each tel. no. associated with my service as indicated in the Terms of Service.

Can I have $2 dollars?
so just to be clear, if we go into the store and use one of those payment kiosks we wont get the $2 charge right?
and to think you guys we're trying to make me feel bad about using 50gb/month.
A convenience fee is actually pretty common when paying bills online or over the phone, in my experience they've been closer to four dollars. That doesn't make it right by any stretch of the imagination though, frankly I'm surprised it has taken them this long.
Also misleading title is misleading as the linked article says they might enact a convenience fee.

Makes no sense why that's good. They're just asking to be occupied. Well, within the rules of course, to pay their bills in store. Occupy nonetheless.

Guys. No one cares because all of you are going to continue to pay your bills every month, whether you use one of the new options to not be incurred with the charge or you just eat the charge.
Auto bill pay for me since they started it. I never had a problem. Never understood why more people don't use that option.

Yup same. Many places charge a convenience fee if you don't auto pay or use an e-check. Colleges even do it but its a percentage...which blows. 3% sounds fine until you remember you're paying $4k a semester...$120 extra is not a small fee just because you don't autopay.

Also, you would be better off buying from a Site like Best buy or Radio Shack etc. You could swap the phones right in the store. Or as soon as it's activated, you can call sprint and have it switched.
If you purchase from one of those online sites they often require that the device stays on the upgrade line for 180 days. So you can't swap, or you'll get hit with a crazy fee over $200. Best Buy also matches online sales prices from Amazon. Just an FYI.

Amazon just lowered their prices. It's $99 for new line and $169.99 for renewals. Have the screenshots to prove it. Better take advantage now. Amazon changes their prices from one day to the other. I got best buy to match the $150 then couple days later they matched again for the $99. Only catch is some best buys are no longer matching online retailers. Luckily my local bb was doing it even before the last holiday policy. Hopefully you guys get lucky too.

You got me excited. Unfortunately the $169 price is for add lines. It's still $250 for upgrades. $99 for new service is an awesome price though.
And I recent just did what the OP asked about. I bought the note 2 titanium from bestbuy.com using my Mom's upgrade. It shipped next day (even though they quoted 3 weeks). I activated it and swapped the lines instantly on the phone with sprint. The next day I took it into my local best buy and they price matched it down to $250. I generally despise Best Buy, but they are a great place to buy cell phones.

Hello, I was wondering if it's possible to flash to a different carrier such as virgin mobile, straight talk, boost mobile, cricket, etc. Prepaid, something cheaper than $80-90 a month for unlimited everything. Also, will they blacklist or give my phone a bad ESN if I don't pay my bill? I just started my contract. Thank you.

If they did not get their end of the bargain, you won't get yours too, so pay your bills or just pay the ETF and sell off your phone.
You can flash it to other CDMA carriers, search for it around here.
So they WILL blacklist/bad ESN?

For the time being, this is half true. Nationally, a carrier independent database is currently in works. Per CTIA's last report to the FCC on the subject, the GSM database was complete Oct 2012 and the LTE database will be up and running this November. Additionally, both VZW and Sprint are currently participating in multi-carrier databases that are a bit more limited than the one that will roll out later this year. Coupled with this, the FCC is championing legislation that will criminalize modifying a device's IMEI to circumvent blacklisting.
So, my bill is due today. I want to flash it to cricket and Really want to keep my number. Will it work?

No. They will not release a number when you still owe them a considerable amount of money. Furthermore, this isn't something that will just go away. You will get hounded for the money you owe. First by Verizon, and then by a third party debt collector. It will negatively affect your credit and there exists a possibility that a court judgment could be sought against you. On the off chance it comes to that, you'd be looking at owing more than the past due amount and ETF.
Have you tried calling Verizon and working with them to adjust your level of service to something you can afford at this time? Another option would be to sell the phone on Craigslist and use that to pay down the ETF. You could then get a prepaid phone which will assist in keeping your usage manageable until you're in a better situation financially.
Just a small example of how and why our economy is so f'd up.
good day.
Unless you don't care for the carrier, call them and see if you can work something out, like splitting your bill over two months and changing the plan.

I think there are 2 points here:
1. Berating strangers on the internet is just as unwise and unjust as doing so in person. We can't judge someone else's hardships and we have no right to try. Savings and planning can only go so far in the face of emergencies.
2. Solving financial problems by planning to violate your phone contract is also unwise and unjust. Contracts are binding (and if one person breaks them the cost gets passed on to everyone else), and emergencies are what savings and planning are for.
I, personally at least, think this thread is best resolved by saying: OP, I'm glad you worked it out with your provider without breaking your contract. Congratulations on your baby. Without knowing what emergency you are facing, I hope your next few months go better for you. Thank you for your service.

No zero down mean you don't need to pay for it now. So instead of making you have down payment right now they put that payment toward the monthly payment plan.
Say you want S4, instead of 150 down and 20x24 totaling 630, you pay 0 down and 25x24 total of 600. $30 saving. Not bad. .
But phone like HTC one, you'll be paying 0 down and 25x24 total 600 instead of 80 down (Web)and 20x24 total of 560 normally. Cost you $40 more.
Over all tmobile is being aggressive lately. .

That's annoying as hell.
I just talked to a Loyalty rep this afternoon to change plans and waive fees, who told me about this promotion. I asked him three separate times if the lack of down payment came back on the back end, by either increasing monthly payments or adding months, and every time he told me, No, it's $20 for 24 months.
I'm getting my Note II tomorrow, and I guess I'll see what happens with my next bill.

I switched from sprint a wk ago and went in this morning and was refunded $150 for one s4 and $150 bill credit for another. Also u have to b in the "A or B" credit bracket in order to qualify for the zero down. And for each line u open there is still a $50 charge for taxes. So 4 lines is $200 plus $10 per sim kit (new costomers).

I recently purchased a blue HTC One at Best Buy the other day. Had them on sale for $49.99 with new 2-year agreement. What I did was add a new line to get it at that price. Going to sell my S4 and then canceling the old line and paying the ETF with what I get for the S4. I'm midway through previous contract on old line, so the fee should only be about $230. Only thing that sucks, is that I have to tell everyone I know I have a new #. I could probably switch the numbers on the phones, but ETF would higher canceling the new line. Plus I don't think they would let me get away without paying some kind of fee if I canceled the new line because I got a brand new phone out of it. Anyhow, paying ~$300 for a new HTC One this way is a lot better than paying upwards of $600-$700 IMO.
