[Q] Baseband crashing to unknown? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

So I was doing some lightweight streaming this morning while riding the bus to campus, and then I get absolutely no signal. I thought I just went into a low signal area, but after airplane mode, reboot, taking sim out, etc, my phone shows "unknown" for baseband.
Unfortunately, I was not able to get any logs, nor did I have a flashable radio from recovery.
I was wondering if anyone had any issues like this? I've gotten a flash able radio and am going to try that.
Rom: AOKP b37
Radio: uglc1 w/ matching ril.
Kernel: stock faux AOKP kernel
Edit: nope, radio flashing did nothing. Is this a hardware issue that needs a warranty replacement?
Edit: my power menu says airplane mode is on, but settings menu disagrees. Also, I can't reset my google wallet stuff.. yay...

Thanks for the links. I've looked through, but they all seem to have a point where signal comes back, mine however doesn't even get to a point where it can initialize the SIM and recognize there is a SIM card.
My error message is from dmesg within the phone itself.
here's the logcat:
http://pastebin.com/AHGdFAmr
The one issue i continue to see if nv.log:
"/data/radio/nv_data.bin does notexist!"
eve though that file IS in /data/radio AND has the correct file permissions.
Clearing it out of /data/radio and deleting all the stuff from /factory and letting the phone rebuild it does nothing. Fastboot DOES see the radio though.

[Q] Random Reboots

I'm curious if others are seeing their EVO reboot with random use. It doesn't seem to be related to one specific application although it is hard to say if a background app is the cause. I will be using navigation or an Internet-based app, then the screen goes black and the phone reboots.
I originally thought it was due to rooting, but I'm seeing it on different ROMs. I've wiped the cache and data when flashing the new ROMs and I've tried running with limited apps loaded with my recent move to the OMJ ROM. Everything actually runs great with the exception of the reboots.
I'm posting the issue here since it doesn't seem to be ROM specific and I'm curious if it may be hardware related. Is there a tool that would allow me to easily catch a log of the potential error to seek further help? A point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
I'm running stock 2.2 no root, and with gps on my phone reboots in the middle of 911 calls. (Thank God I wasn't calling about an immediate emergency) but it happened twice, once when I called and the other when they called me back. After turning off GPS, it worked fine. I thought this was a bug in 2.1 before update1, I didn't receive the problem until the 2.2 update.
adb logcat might see an error, but I'm not really sure.
Seeing it here. Not Rom or application specific.
try a factory reset.
That's scary news about the reboots during 911 calls. I can't say that I tested that as a trigger for the reboot and I hope I don't have to in the near future. However, it makes me curious if it is related to the phone's interaction with the Sprint network. In your case your 911 call may have been a direct trigger whereas my reboots are seem indirect while I'm using my data plan.
One reason for my reboot was due to me getting the Error Code 67 "Your PCS Vision username and/or password may be incorrect" when trying to tether (USB or hotspot). Rooting allowed me to tether using 3rd party apps, but there may be the underlying problem with my account.
I also should have mentioned that the reboots happen with GPS on as well as off. I typically have it off to save battery life. I've also done factory resets each time I've changed or updated my ROM.
Thanks for the feedback and suggestions so far. I'll try logcat and continue to monitor the forum for advice. I'll also post back any answers I may find elsewhere.
Thanks again.
I had a reboot tonite, phone was just sitting on table off charger about 90% battery, and I heard the Sprint screen come on looked down and noticed phone was booting up....no idea why first time I've noticed this.
Stock froyo no root...unfortunately :'(

Correction... I meant to say that the reason I rooted (not rebooted) was to get tethering without running into the Error Code 67. I tried the various solutions posted for the Error Code 67, but nothing seemed to work. But I'm curious if this may be part of the underlying issue if my device reboots based on a faulty account configuration when using some aspect of the Sprint network.

The exact same thing happened to me last night. I sent a text, switched to my GMail and then boom. Error message about failure to send an SMS then reboot. Stock unrooted FroYo.
I had reboots only when using Undervolted kernels.
Seemed to be triggered by GPS + Phone call.
Yes, I was also having this problem. Definitely GPS related. Usually it would happen only if I was using the GPS for a long amount of time (navigating) - so I imagine it may be conflicting with cellular data if I received a txt while navigating or something. Who knows.
It was driving me crazy because A. I got lost and B. It started rebooting constantly and would randomly get caught in a boot-loop. I even had the problem after wiping EVERYTHING (even my SD) and reinstalling various ROMs (I tried 5 different ones).
The only solution I found in the end was to find the latest radio and wimax updates, wipe, re-install those - and then install the ROM again.
GPS may be a symptom, but not a cause for me since I typically have GPS off. I find that it typically happens when I'm using a networked based app, like the web browser. Following your post I turned on the GPS, started the navigation app and found that my EVO rebooted after the same amount of time I was experiencing with GPS off.
The more I think about it, it does feel like I just assume that it will reboot after a certain amount of time passes (regardless of app). GPS and Internet are two uses where I will have the screen on for more than just checking email and etc.
Your reply gave me hope and I wiped, reset and reinstalled today. All seemed well and then... auto-reboot. This is driving me nuts. I'm seriously considering reverting back to stock to see if that stops it.

Don't go back to stock. I did and it did not fix the rebooting problem. Now I have the rebooting problem and don't have root anymore. Out of the frying can and into the fire.
What's funny is that my phone went through a few days where it would randomly reboot, and this was before I rooted. When it rebooted for the second time in a meeting, I pulled the battery, and didn't put it back in until the meeting was over a few hours later. Don't know if that did anything, but it hasn't rebooted on its own since.

Having same issue and my theory is that its sd card related in my case at least... I think it might have to do with froyo netarchy based kernals found in most of the newer froyo roms combined with a slow sd card. (on hardware rev 2)... try flashing a 2.1 rom like fresh 1 or one of the 2.2 roms with an htc based kernal like the am evolution or cyanogen with snap5 or 7.11 (onyl 7based kernal ive tried so far, was panicking because i thought my evo was wrecked). those have both worked for me and i had that issue with 1.3 baked snack, fresh 3, evio and damage control. got random reboots when phone is totally idle, in use, charging or not. evio runs super smooth but the restarts...)
edit for spelling and update roms that gave me the reboot issue.
+1 for random reboots here... it is CERTAINLY more prevalent during GPS use, but I've gotten it without.
Fresh 3 + King BFS#4 got me in a bootloop requiring wipe reflash, standard baked snack 1.5+whatever kernel it comes with has been doing it.
I dig the battery life I was getting... but if undervolting is causing this... ugh.
I'm also getting the boot loop problem. Stock 2.2, all updates.
I've even done the hard reset.. twice!
I tried to follow it with LogCat, but reboot disconnects adb. I was thinking it was the SprintZone app. The P.O.S. app is doing all sorts of non-sense while booting, but eventually it'll reboot around the 11th time and freeze at the "htc EVO 4G" screen.
I wish we could get some resolve here D;
Random Reboots
Thanks for all the input and I'm sorry to hear that I'm not alone, but it is a bit comforting to know I'm not the only one that is frustrated.
I took gleax's advice and I dropped down to the stock 2.1 release found in the thread number 715915. (Sorry, the forum won't let me paste the link.)
I did the required wipes prior to installing the new ROM and I'm still seeing reboots. I now see the OTA update for Android 2.2 and I'm tempted to accept, then send the phone back to Sprint in the even this is a hardware issue. I'd prefer not to, but there doesn't seem to be a way to identify the issue and work towards a resolution. I've tried logcat, but the log seems to start clean after each reboot. That being the case, I don't know how to capture the log leading up to the reboot that would help identify the issue. Any suggestions on a logging tool and where to post to help several of us that are seeing this issue?
Gleax suggested this is may be SD related, so I bought a class 4 card in addition to dropping down to 2.1. I'll give that a shot and try another clean 2.1 install. I'll post the results here in the event they may help others. I'll likely give it a week before unrooting and seeking help from Sprint. I really need a usable device more than I need root access (although both would be ideal).
I had this problem on a very regular basis when I was running OTA 1.32, 2.1 android.. but since I rooted and went to SteelH's stock 2.2, no issues at all. Updated radios when I did that as well.
Hrm, I may have to try flashing to a stock build for awhile... it'll KILL me, but even fully wiping, new radios, cyanogen, still get crazy reboots.

Already testing... I was already getting good GPS results on the EL29 ROM I built (even indoors). This mod is really just another gps.conf edit.
I installed the mod over an hour ago, reset agps data, rebooted and got a pretty quick lock (indoors) immediately. I just tried again and it's not getting a lock at all. I think I'll go back to the original gps.conf and see if it locks properly.
Update: After reverting back to the original gps.conf, clearing agps data, and rebooting, I got a lock in 5-6 seconds. I think part of the issue is that this is now hitting "derekgordon.com" instead of the regular GPS servers. This mod was sent out to the interwebs and I'm sure there are TONS of people installing. I'm not sure if the server is overloaded or whatnot, but I don't want to rely on someone's private website for my Navigation and other GPS needs.
Code:
NTP_SERVER=ntp.derekgordon.com
AGPS=http://derekgordon.com/gps-files/bin/xtra.bin

i already get decent gps as well but this mod has me curious.
i totally agree with you about not wanting to rely on someones personal server.. though only v3+ includes this server. there are older mods that rely on qualcomms servers.
I tried this mod (V3) and it made no difference for me.. I'm afraid my GPS problems are hardware related, I've tried almost every 'fix' available.
Well it probably has to be manipulated to work with our device. The file is for the international sgs2

...i wish u didnt say that...because my gps is fukked...i was hoping this patch would fix it but if i end up being in the same boat as you where its a hardware problem ill just take it into sprint...i havent done it yet partially because i am hopeful that i can fix it too lazy to go and scared they r gunna find out i rooted my phone even tho ill rest it back to stock
I'm getting my hardware replacement this Friday. I've done everything from scripts, to gps drivers, nothing is consistent. Even reverting back to stock didn't do anything.
Hopefully it will fix it.
I tested this today. Before the fix I couldn't get more than 3 satellites in GPS Status, after the fix I got 9.
Also noticed that while navigating I could get a lock in under a minute instead of 5+ minutes before the fix.

Mine is stuck on roaming after flashing, weird
Edit: fixed now, no idea what caused it but fine now
Gps crazy fixed now too
loaded the new config file last night and day later it still won't get a lock. i guess this mod isn't for me.
edit: after few reboots it gets lock in under 5 seconds... hope it stays that way
Anyone know if this patch helps at all on ICS ROMs?

Is it possible for someone to upload the original gps.conf ?
I lost mine after trying many different modes, to get the damn gps working lol.
Here's my stock gps.conf from /etc/
It may help some but I know that some of the phones have bad gps chips in them. My first one did. I had to get it replaced in order to get a gps lock. The first one I had would never see more than 1 sattelite and never lock. Nothing I did or that the sprint techs did could change it so they swapped it out for me.

[SOLVED] No Data on Wifi

Hey guys,
I am having the weirdest issue with my wife's phone. A few weeks ago she started complaining about her data speeds at home. Through some troubleshooting, I noticed that while she was connected to Wifi, she wouldn't get data for a couple minutes, and then she would get it for about 30 seconds before it dropped again, rinse, repeat. Now, it doesn't drop the signal, it still says its connected to my network, but will not load any data whatsoever. Turn off wifi and surf on 3G and its perfect, weird.
She was running stock rooted TW on 4.1.1 with LI3 modem when she started complaining about it out of the blue. I figured she had maybe messed something up so I wiped and flashed CM10.1 along with LJ3 modem. Still the same issue. Now I just tried flashing MA6 and its still doing it.
I'm having her just stick to 3G until I can figure out the issue but I'm stumped and am not finding any fixes online. Anybody else had this issue or know anything I could try before taking it in to the Sprint store?

Reset the router in your house. Complete reset then set the phone up again to the wifi it should do the trick.

I will give that a shot tonight, but I think I have done that within the last week because I was having an unrelated internet issue. I was under the false impression that the modem affects wifi, but that is the kernel, correct? But that changed when I flashed CM10.1 anyway and still no beans. Hopefully a good router reset fixes it.
Unfortunately the router reset didn't work. I'm at a loss but I *really* don't want to take it in to our local Sprint store because they are a bunch of idiots.
Did you update profile and prl lately? Sometimes mine misses the update and then everything is fine when I do it manually.

Just tried, still no beans. Weirdest thing ever. Wifi works for 30 seconds then I get nothing but network connection error everywhere for about 2 minutes, then data comes back. I wonder if its a hardware issue. I just flashed back to stock rooted MA6 + kernel and its still acting up.

Search on google, the programming codes are usually not specific to a phone so its safe to try and use one that you see somewhere
And even if it is specific to a certain phone, then it just wont work when you dial it, no problems come about as a result of trying them

Can't Send SMS; Can Receive SMS/MMS & Send MMS

Hey guys,
I think I've reached the point where it's time to call in the cavalry and see if anyone around here is having the same issue; there appears to be a plague going around on the Verizon network, specifically in the Pennsylvania area, preventing people from sending SMS, but still receiving fine (and 4G works fine too, for the record). MMS still sends / receives fine, but I'm unable to send SMS. There are tricks to allowing a single SMS message to go through which involves toggling Airplane mode on / off every. Single. Time. People have also had success with turning 4G off completely, using the CDMA band after a reboot at which point they can send *several*, but still end up with the same issue.
The only solution I've read about that FIXED it is by reverting back to complete stock from VZW. Performing factory resets, using other ROMs, etc etc...doesn't work. I'd REALLY rather not do this and, frankly, would rather use 3G / toggle Airplane mode for texts than use Sense and get off of my ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2560831).
People from other device forums on XDA are having the same problem; the ones I've seen that are active discussions are the Samsung Galaxy S III & IV. They're mostly CM ROMs *as well as* AOSP ROMs in general.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2532414
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2658572
SIM card replacements are a no-go, and the recorded instances seem to be in the 717 / 570 area codes, mostly. Now I DO know that VZW released an OTA update for the One recently, and I'm relatively confident that would fix the issue, but I've no idea why. I'm thinking perhaps they dispatched new radios? I looked around a bit and couldn't find any flashable zips of radios extracted from the latest OTA, that's the next step I'll be trying once that download finishes.
So is anyone else having this issue? Any word on fixes?
The newest firmware from the latest OTA can be found in the 2nd post in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2485319
If you've already flashed the latest firmware then I'm not sure what to tell you... maybe ask your favorite rom developer to take a look at the latest OTA in regards to this issue?
If it has the stock rom and OTA update why not take it to the store and let them look at it. Something might be wrong with your account.

Those area codes for all phones on aosp roms are not working right now. Since 2/20/14. Has nothing to do with HTC or their firmware. I'ts a bizarre Verizon 4G issue. I am in the 717 area code with a Note 2 with the issue. I have seen others with S4 and S3. Verizon is aware of the issue and is working with another XDA member to fix it. To date it's not resolved.

Thanks DreamFX; I've been following this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2658572&page=6) lately as they seem to be the most on top of it. I can't believe Verizon has let this issue go on for so long, but given that it seems to only be relevant to those of us with AOSP ROM's, I guess it makes sense. At least I'm still able to send texts, if not only through a silly process of toggling airplane mode on / off. Hopefully it gets resolved soon...

Whoa, that's weird. I really thought it was isolated to the 717 area code. It's getting pretty crazy...I've been dealing with this for a few weeks now and my patience is running thin. Unfortunately it's not like we can just report this to VZW because all anyone would tell us to do is "restore to factory", which simply isn't a solution.

Yup, I thought so too. Just cropped up between 10a and 11a PDT. Like you said MMS is fine, simply affects SMS. And yes, restoring stock is simply not an option. Going to TMobile, however, is totally an option that I'm considering more and more often......
EDIT: AND SMS began sending properly (without workaround) for me around 8p PDT last night, just tested and still ok. RESOLVED!
EDIT EDIT: Issue now persists....sadface =[

Yup, I thought so too. Just cropped up between 10a and 11a PDT. Like you said MMS is fine, simply affects SMS. And yes, restoring stock is simply not an option. Going to TMobile, however, is totally an option that I'm considering more and more often......
EDIT: AND SMS began sending properly (without workaround) for me around 8p PDT last night, just tested and still ok. RESOLVED!
EDIT EDIT: Issue now persists....sadface =[

IM getting it now. but not exactly the same. phone freezes without warning and I have to toggle airplane mode and restart to get it to unfreeze. this happened after the last OTA update. I am going to a custom ROM until I don't read anything about this for a while

[Q]Please Serious tech help! cellular data radio unresponsive

Look i normally dont ask for to much help ive been around a bit know more then the average bear. I also fix hardware.
My problem is my data radio will not switch on from any attempt:
Attempted solutions:
Dialed
*#*#4636#*#*
Will not switch on from that screen
Did the obvious and switched on and off airplane mode
Replaced the entire build.prop file with a very stock build.prop after flashing stock jelly bean
Repeated steps for all stock firmware
Newest attempt wiped the entire system partition through recovery forcefully bricking the phone. I have now flashed the original stock e980 stock 10p tot file still no luck
My phone is completely unlocked fully rooted.
I've replaced the data permission files.
And I know its not the SIM card because the SIM card is in the phone I'm using right now which is an LG g2 unlocked which is for sale by the way.
And if it is a hardware problem I have not found any related video or thread to help me find an exchange where the radio is on this thing
Help me please if anybody has any idea?
Cool no help, hey moderator can u move this to thread that may get more help that would be awesome
i came looking around here because my g pros radio stopped working sometime last night while i was asleep and was about to make a thread asking for help, but seeing as how you haven't got much i doubt i would either. but ill give you a little info on mine, will it help you out at all? not sure. but i know it might make me feel a little better.
I flashed Vanir 4.4.4 last week coming from Beanstalk 4.4.4 cause beanstalk was getting buggy from all the ugly mods i subjected it to. so all was well with Vanir till i woke up this morning and had no service, no calls, no network, AND even if i connected to a wifi network it seemed that i couldn't get any data from it. I tried flashing madmacks modem cause who knows, maybe thatll help, but it diddnt. So then i flashed a different kernel and changed TCP protocols cause who ****ing knows, but it did nothing. THEN i restored my older Beanstalk 4.4.4 backup sure that it would work flawlessly but guess what, same problem. Now that im back on Beanstalk i went to the "Network Operators" option under "Mobile network settings" and selected ATT, which is my service provider, i can now make calls and texts but still no data, when i did this on Vanir it did not help. So i started messing with my "preferred network type" and realized i have data on 2G, but not 3G or LTE. Im gonna take a wild guess and say that maybe if you flash your phone back to 100% stock your radio should start working again, as much as i dont want to, i might end up doing that as well.
tl:dr
similar problem, i dont really know ****, easiest option = go back to stock, hope it works.
@Fant0m3 @alb-o
Have you guys checked if your rom shows your imei?
I have had this problem twice. My IMEI disappeared and I don't know how.
Your symptoms match.
If that's the case you could take it to a repair shop and they'll fix it in a minute or two. Or, you can check around xda.
thats a good point, when i was looking around XDA earlier i saw a few mentions of it but diddnt see anything very specific and was late for class so diddnt have time to look for too long. strangely enough mine actually started working normally again after i kept switching from 2G to 3G to LTE, which is great. but if i would've known that info earlier i could have checked if my IMEI disappeared while my radio still wasn't working, i assume it probably did.
after searching around more i found this thread that talks about it and how to prevent it:

thanks for the help g0at1, hopefully this helps out the OP if he hasn't already fixed the problem, or anyone else that comes across this.
nope
I've flashed back stock numerous times even flashed other versions such as e988 and back again if u dint know how to do that just change your build number in your build prop file...I've tried everything I am downt to antenna cable SIM reader or cell radio.. If radio I might as well just give up cause I can't find one for sell anywhere...I'm not so pressed as I'm using the LG g2 and it's so fast stable and a bit slimmer I think I'm gonna keep it but I would like to fix it and sell it though...... My symptoms are mentioned and all tried fixes are there. Imei is read carrier is not WiFi is received but there is an X above the data bars phone is fully unlocked as well
This may help also but it does not read my imei when the SIM is not in hmm maybe I will rework the imei code and get back if that works. I will keep updated when fixed and with solution
