[Q] What ROM to choose? Stock or..? - HTC Wildfire S

Hi!
*Read the last sentence (in red) of this post for my actual question, if you don't want to read everything (which I can imagine you don't ).*
Here's my situation:
My GF's Wildfire S (stock ROM, rooted, specs below) has always had low internal memory. The phone uses the Link2SD app, but still the memory ran lower and lower. In the last weeks the internal memory became so low, the phone stopped notifying when new emails arrived etc. Annoying, so I'm here to find help to fix this.
Since about two months ago (maybe three or even more? ) the phone has an 'update available' message, which does not install. Firstly, because of low memory, but secondly because it won't install: when freeing up some space to make the update work, it starts installing by rebooting and then an android with excalamtion mark in a triangle is visible and nothing happens. I have searched for this problem and found others with similar symptoms, but no solution. I found one thread that mentioned these OTA updates fail if you have removed some system apps (which I have done to clear up more memory).
So basically what I want is this:
* As much as internal space as is possible, through the Link2SD app or some other way.
* A ROM with HTC Sense (including Sense widgets!), 3.5 preferred, but 2.1 is no problem.
* ROM stability is a must (I don't want my GF to come asking me for help with her phone all the time).
* A fast ROM would be nice too, so nothing too fancy but HTC Sense and overclockability.
My guess is that the newest stock ROM would be a good option, but if you have suggestions for a modified stock ROM or something completely different, let's hear it! As long as it has Sense and is fast enough (for Wildfire S means, duh, I know the phone is not top-notch). When I look at the Wildfire S INDEX thread, I'm overwhelmed with the number of options. I just don't know where to start and what makes a good ROM different from a mediocre one. FYI: we're dutch, so a dutch ROM would be nice, but no problem if it's not.
I rooted the phone a while back to be able to use Link2SD.
Current specs in the code below:
Code:
Model: HTC Wildfire S A510e
Android: 2.3.3
Sense version: 2.1
Software number: 1.33.771.5
Kernel:

Recovery: CWM-based Recovery v5.0.2.6
As you can see, the phone is S-OFF, which it was when it shipped. Is this normal? I found the phone being full of bloatware and ad-apps, which were easy to remove after the phone was rooted, but it makes me think I bought a stolen or modified Wildfire S. Doesn't matter now, most important are the steps I want to take now.
So what ROMs are good options for my needs (Sense + enough internal memory) and what steps do I have to take?
Thanks for your time and advice!

Download the full odex version of this rom(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1652973) .This rom is EXACTLY what you need.Leave the creator a thanks for his effort. The steps to install this rom are on the original post so don't worry. You won't have any problems.Best of luck

If you like complete stock experience, without any mods or anything.......use the latest European RUU,flash the DUST kernel by Einstein.frat(search it),create a 1GB EXT4 partition(you can make it bigger) on your SD Card via CWM recovery(backup before creating the partition since it formats your SD Card),Then flash the Data2sd package usually found in many Sense Rom's threads
This will give you 1 gigs of internal memory
To enhance the performance, use SDBooster from the market and select 1024 MB as the cache size
Let me know if it works out
And yeah it is GREAT that your wildfire s was shipped as S-OFF......wish I had that luck

Yeah you could do what the user above suggested but i was trying to save you the hassle.Just flash the rom i linked to above and you won't regret it!

How to RUU?

After taking a look at it I've come to the conclusion that it sounds as a fantastic ROM for my needs, apart from that it has no Sense widgets. Bummer, 'cause my GF wants to use some Sense widgets.

Where do I find the correct one? I know there's this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074445) that has tons of stock ROMs in the link, but which one do I need? Or do I need to get the latest RUU from htcdev.com? How do I do that?
Thanks for the replies, guys!

try the latest one...... i.e the one created about three days ago(as of today)

When I'm able to download it, will it be easy to install? I mean: are there basic instructions inside the .exe or do I need more knowledge to make it work?
Also, are there release notes on that ROM?

RUU mirror!
The RUU from the above-mentioned thread won't download, FileFront says there's no bandwidth available, so no free download!
Someone must have downloaded is, so could they please upload it somewhere else? If you look at the above-mentioned thread, the last few posts mention the same problem, so it would be helpful to more people than just me if you upload the RUU somewhere else.
This is the RUU I'm talking about:
RUU_Marvel_S_HTC_Europe_2.26.401.3_Radio_47.23e.35 .3038H_7.57.39.10M_release_261695_signed.exe
Thanks in advance!
Whoohoo, finally: downloading it now at a lousy 50 kBps on average.

RUU'd, now trying to root again
RUU applied. Bootloader unlocked. Now trying to root again!
Rooting using Supertool does not work due to read-only errors. Don't know why, but I'm trying to fix this. I need to flash a new recovery too.
I will update when I have made more progress!

Thanks, but I already flashed the CWM based recovery and rooted.
Now I'm restoring the backups I've made using Titanium. I've never done this before, so anything I sould look out for?
I'm using Link2SD. Would restoring the entire backup (140 steps) at once do any good, or would it be wise to do it in smaller steps, so Link2SD can link files to the SD-ext partition?

[Q] Root access to install apps to sd

Hi after spending about a week reading through forums I managed to change my friends HTC HD2 to android using the LEO "Stock" NAND Android ROM.
All went great thanks to the excellent instuctions on here.
I then put z4root on and app2sd and all worked great.
I then deceicded to buy an HTC desire for myself not the HD one.
However maybe I should have done some more reading first as I cant find a way to root device to install apps to sd card.
I dont really want to flash another rom as phone is new and under warrant. Can you root without flashing a new rom or somehow move them to sd
Have I just made a huge mistake buying this phone or is there a way.
All help appreciated thanks
How does rooting void the warranty less than flashing a custom rom? Don't answer cause it doesn't.
It is possible to root and keep the current rom, but if you want to enable A2SD then it's a lot of work (not talking about the froyo crap).
So if you want A2SD is suggest you root with Unrevoked and flash Leedroid. Don't forget to make a ext partition on the sd card before flashing.
Disclaimer: You are the only one responsible for you phone, no one else!
You can root the stock ROM as TheGhost 233 said. You can also use AlphaRev's S-Off as well on it if you wanted.
As for me, I couldn't be bothered with A2SD so I just S-Off'd and then used the n1table to increase my internal memory. The ROM I use uses bugger all in the system. Also, you can move apps to SD card anyway if you have 2.2+.

No, I don't think you've made a mistake buying this particular phone....seriously....
As for rooting, use the Unrevoked method which is the easiest....Alpharev S-OFF works too ( I think you can't flash custom HBOOT images if your phone has the latest PVT-4 NAND..better check on that..)
Here's the complete guide from the Desire Android Development section of the forum:

Thanks for the replies I am waiting on phone getting delivered today from virgin.
I will post back when I get a chance to have a look at it.
I got root using unrevoked3 but my phone is s-on
My phone is on virgin branded and I presume locked though not tried another sin in it yet.
If I wanted to flash leedroid Rom onto phone what steps would I have to do
I put on setcpu so that seems to have helped battery life but would like custom Rom on
Thanks

Hold on wait a minute you don't have to flash a new ROM at all your v-mobile phone should be on froyo (android 2.2) current software version 2.22.351.3 which already lets you put some apps onto your sd card at the moment i only have 3 downloaded apps that are on phone only mode.
[edit] you can also add downloaded apps from computer to sd card and install with Astro - Every one that i have done this with enabled move to sd and i still have 98mb of space to store more apps (even with the ones that are installed by v-mobile)
Thanks for reply yes it is on new update but I thought some of the modded roms were using less battery power so I wanted to know how to install one.
I have rooted using unrevoked 3 but i notice my phone is s-on
Just wanted to know if someone could advise me on the steps to do this or point me to a guide.
Will look at that astro as well thanks.
I have modinstall also
The issue you have is should things go wrong you can't return to stock as the Virgin RUU hasn't been leaked, so make a gold card now before you continue. This way, should the worst happen, you can flash the generic HTC RUU to get back to stock
Then look at custom ROMs using A2SD+ - most do it these days but best to check the ROM thread in question to make sure. Then partition your SD card and flash the ROM and you're good to go.
S-OFF isn't something you NEED - just means you can make changes to the OS without having to go into recovery first. If you're not going to be making a lot of changes bar a new ROM then leave that for now

This is what i was thinking and knowing v-mobile if you can't find a stock ROM to flash back to may have no warranty. That's the only reason i havent messed with mine
Early version (2.1) are about so you could downgrade using the guide on here but I don't know if it'd work (depends on the HBOOT)
Either way, a gold card is needed

Problems:LeeDrOiD HD V3.3.3 GB Port R5 Data and lack of free space for apps

Hello everyone,
I have a HTC Desire. I installed LeeDrOiD HD V3.3.3 GB Port R5 Data and created 1GB partition EXT3. Now the system has 20 MB of free memory.
I can not install any application, since the system displays "free some space".
Why??
I using the google and found nothing.
Have many reads of the FAQ: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1226017
it's really useful to help understand what's going on.
My guess is that you may have installed the wrong version and/or not have the right hboot

you may have read it, but i don't think you have read it enough times to understand it. sections 1 and 2 are the most useful
many people, including myself, have used that guide to install the rom completely from scratch with no prior knowledge.
when i said wrong version i meant the A2SD or data++ version of the ROM. from your info i believe you are s-off with stock hboot, but have installed the data++ version of the rom. there are sections within the FAQ which deal with this.
Ok: I think I know what the problem is - I need another version of this page hboot alpharev.nl And here I have another problem because never changed the hboot. LeeDroid previously used in version 2.5 and then it removed the s-off, and installed the recovery RA-Desire-2.0 and then the number of hboot has changed itself. So, I have a few question:
The installation of a new installation hboot is otherwise recovery? after the surgery I will have further RA-Desire-2.0 or AlphaRev? AlphaRev or during installation can damage the phone? whether this process can be reversed?
Also never installed a radio, or is it necessary?
I know a lot of questions but most importantly for me, it does not damage the phone. And sorry fom my english.
you're going to have to read the FAQ main sections a few more times

good, so at least you have made progress in understanding what went wrong.
you should have installed either:
- A2SD version on stock hboot
- data++ version on cm7r2 hboot
however you installed data++ version on stock hboot, make sense?

no, when you s-off the hboot changed to 6.93.1002. installing a new rom does not remove s-off.

Alpharev hboots are partition tables: you are aiming to change yours from stock to cm7r2

they can damage only if you flash a corrupted hboot file. therefore make sure you verify the md5 sums of the hboot img given on alpharev.nl. (search google for what md5 sums are, and then use a program called md5check)
this process can be reversed, deal with that later if/when you need to.

nobody wants to damage their phone, which is why guides like this FAQ were written in the first place. all the steps, links and troubleshooting tips are given there. the fact that i'm referencing sections out of it proves that you haven't really read or understood it.
I installed this rom a while ago, and kept reading it many many times before attempting anything, please do the same. once you do that:
- you will install everything successfully
- you'll have enough space for apps
- most importantly, hopefully you'll understand what you have actually done, and where all your apps, data and dalvik are stored...
good luck!

Ooo my God! I did not know that there is a further part of the post. I still read this page: forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16808940&postcount=2
and there the last point is 1.8. I just now checked the link in your first answer.
I'm sorry, my fault. But thanks to you I know what to do next.
Now I have the last tree questions:
1. Because just now I understand the difference between A2SD+ and Data++ I'm wondering which one to choose options:
a) installation LeeDroid HD 3.3.3 GB-Port-R5 Data and AlphaRev?
b) or installation LeeDroid HD 3.3.3 GB-Port-R5 A2SD and fix Move-Dalvik-to-sdext?
What would you choose?
I read already the differences and I do not know which is better/fast
2. If I chose options (1a) and installed AlphaRev I must install LeeDroid HD 3.3.3 GB-Port-R5 Data again?
3. On the alpha site is written:
"If you downloaded Bravo Data++, please notice the /cache partition is too small to hold Radio flashes from recovery. You can however flash the radio just fine with 'fastboot flash radio radio.img'."
So, if I chose the option (1a), I must to install another radio?

you've got this far, you might as well change hboot and install data++ version, you get more space for apps. keep dalvik on nand first, then if you start to run out of space you can flash the dalvik2sd script.
(just a note, you don't 'install Alpharev', you're going to flash cm7r2 hboot)

it's just saying that if you want to flash another radio and you have cm7r2 hboot, you cannot flash it from recovery, you must change it using fastboot commands (a different topic).
read sections 2.8 and 1.4 (again...)
going round in circles a bit...but you'll get there eventually.
keep reading, i remember being a little scared of going through it all, but it all worked out fine in the end
If your radio works best bet is just leave it alone. If its relatively recent (second bit starts with _5 at least!) it'll probably be fine.

Ok guys, thank you all for your help.
I did finally everything works as it should, but I am not happy with the camera. In carrying out photo in the room, the whole picture comes out very dark, enough with the lens sees a piece of window. Horrible! Photo using the lamps are identical. There is no difference. I've noticed that a Gingerbread has the process com.android.camera.apk in version 3.0, but a Froyo has the process com.android.camera.apk in version 2.0, but version 2.0 does not work on Gingerbread (I checked). So I do not want such thing.
So now I'm looking for another ROM. I have to find one that has HTC Sense and leave in peace my Radio. I wonder whether is Android 4.0 with HTC sense on Desire.
Suggestions?
If I found nothing, today evening I'm going back to the wersion 2.5 of LeeDroid.

remember leedroid 2.5 will not fit on cm7r2 hboot, so you have to change back to stock hboot before restoring.

[SOLVED] New HTC Desire (Android) user, need help

Before all jump on me being noob, yes I watched video and read rules. I hope I post this thread in place where it belongs.
I am not native English speaker so please don't throw me in fire if you see some writing errors.
I have always been Nokia user, from 1995 to this day, and now I got HTC Desire, it is old but I got it for free, it was in the box almost 1-2 years (never used) and that person discovered it before a month and gave it to me because he don't need it.
This thing is along first editions by the look of it, Android 2.1 Eclair, Amoled
I have updated it to latest official update (as I can remember 2.2.2)
I got spare MicroSD card (8GB class 10) and it working good with it (looks better then 4GB one I got with phone)
I also added some aps etc..memory was soon filled..I saw on Google that its common problem.
Now after some intro..lets go to my questions..
1. My goal is to root device and put best/stable rom with HTC Sense thing, mostly for additional memory on SD and as I did understand better control and speed of my phone - is that correct?
2. Is it possible to back-up EVERYTHING on my phone, store it to PC, and return it if I am not happy with new ROM, so I can continue to use it exactly where I left it with all my apps and file there?
3. I really don't know anything about android (some things I have read about rooting on google..) so I would need help, someone to point me at correct tutorials and rom to download. Maybe I am Android noob but I am good with PC so dont worry I will make some noob mistakes while rooting and adding new rom.
All my phone info I could find:
So its 2.2.2.

try this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189
pretty straight foward, next time please search before starting a new thread
and if that doesnt work, search how to root desire with revolutionary
i first started with this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084
very helpful if you don't know anything about what you're doing (like you and me) ^^
the most difficult question would be, which ROM to use. you said you'd like to keep Sense.
well here is an overview of every ROM you can get for your desire:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809328
find out the differences between them, and then decide which one suits you best. but don't be afraid to try non-sense (haha, no pun intended ) ROMs.
now some explicit answers:
(1) yes, almost every ROM allows you to move internal storage to your SD and some even speed up your device. with some you could experience reboots now and then, but thats rather rare.
(2) yes, you can backup everything. there are two ways to do that:
a - NANDroid backup: it creates some kind of an image (like the .ISO is the image of a DVD), which can be restored, so that your phone looks the same as before.
i recommend it every time you change or update your ROM. NANDroid backups are available after you rooted and S-OFF'd your device.
b - there are many apps on the market to backup nearly every part of your user data. the most popular is Titanium Backup. it can make a copy highscores, user input like passwords, bookmarks of your browser, and so on.
contacts can usually be secured via your googlemail account.
all of those backups can and will be placed on you SD card, from where you can easily copy them to your desktop pc.
question 3 is already answered...keep an eye out for sticky threads (the ones pinned on top of every sub-forum) and you will find all the information needed.
good luck.
The easiest way to learn about android is to test it out..play with it as much as you want and about rooting use revolutionary, it's the fastest and easiest method. Also, about restoring your Rom, you can do that by backing it up in recovery, nandroid backup as they call it.
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda app-developers app
the two guides linked in the posts 2 and 3 are quite outdated. neither even mention revolutionary.
revolutionary does not give you root. it performs s-off. root comes after flashing the superuser.zip.
@OP, i always recommend this set of guides, which explain a bit more in detail about what everything is first, so you can get an understanding of what you're doing before you do it (just as important!). the video guide is also useful to take you through the actual process.
take your time, i'm sure you'll eventually find what you want :good:
Thanks to all, I will "study" all links before proceed, Like I said I was just looking for few answers with directions of correct tutorials.
hmm..after reading all that stuff I am just confused.
Can anyone point at step-by-step tutorial of how to just make my phone have additional memory on SD card, I want to keep my official 2.2.2. ROM with all apps installed.
As I understand I need to root phone and make some linux partition on SD.
Now, I don't know how to keep apps already installed etc so thats where you guys step in with tutorials for my problem.
Few things to keep in mind:
I dont want S-OFF if not needed
I dont want to change my RADIO, ROM or whatever.
Just additional memory on SD card.
Thanks advance.
in that case you should take a look at this:
Link2SD
it's an application that allows you to move apps to your 2nd SD partition. no need to flash ROMs or anything else.
the only premise is that you need root.
i don't know if this app has any disadvantages...
but i recommend you to take a closer look at flashing ROMs anyways, because most people (including me) claim that their phone was kinda revived with a new custom ROM.
it's really worth a try. sure, there's a huge amount of reading involved, but in the end it's simpler than you think.

first you need root to install titanium backup then, you can take complete backups of your apps, cuz installing a custom ROM will surely destroy the apps.......just take your time, you'll get it........ I took 3 Weeks like you , reading, searching and reading some more..... Then i started doing, and all things fell in place., 1 year has passed and not looking back....

it does take a lot of time to understand it all, that's a good thing. many people with no experience with rooting have used the guides successfully
as above, links2sd should work. however, i was exactly the same, thinking i didn't want a custom rom, just thought i wanted more memory. but a custom rom is well worth the time when you find the right one for you. :good:
the guides will show you how to partition sd card properly (gparted or 4ext recovery)

s-off is not absolutely necessary, but is much more versatile, and more useful if things go wrong in the future. revolutionary will perform s-off anyway, and is ideal for your hboot version. don't be scared of it.
upgrading radio is not absolutely necessary
So after all readings and courage building, today I have decided to run operation X (lol)
Here is what I have done for now:
1. Done many things with PC drivers and comms PC-Mobile
2. S-OFF via Revolutionary
3. Denied CUSTOM RECOVERY from Revolutionary, read somewhere that 4EXT Recovery Touch is better. (I hope I didn't do something wrong with this decision)
4. Installed 4EXT Recovery Touch - custom recovery
5. From Recovery installed Superuser-3.0.7-efgh-signed
Now, it looks like I have now HTC Desire with S-OFF and root.
If I understand correctly now I can install titanium backup and also do nandroid backups.
After all backups I do, then I can proceed to new custom roms, extend memory to SD etc..still I am not sure do I want do more then extend mem.. Well, with time I will probably explore new roms just for fun or whatever.
But for today I have done enough (too much stuff in short time for newbee ))
BTW for now all has gone without problem or errors.
Thank everyone on help.

A completely nervous owner wants to root his HTC Desire...

Hi folks,
My 2.5 yr old Desire is either destined for the drawer or I hope to give it a lease of life by finally rooting it and getting a rom on it with jellybean. I assume that this will give me all the benefits PLUS get rid of the ongoing problems with a lack of internal memory that all Desires suffer from. Since I'm on a nice cheap sim-only deal plus I love the phone's size, etc, this seems the way to go.
So...I have very little idea as to what to do. I know I need to root first so another rom can be applied.
What I am after is the simplest, easiest, most direct way of rooting the phone.
I have:
Android version 2.2.2
Kernel version 2.6.32.15-g2633d94
Software no 2.33.161.6
I have had a good look on these forums as well as others and everytime someone asks a similar question there is too much assumed knowledge in the answer. Also, others always end up hijacking the thread with arguments over this way of doing it or that.
I need - please - a really simple explanation of what to do with the easiest method possible. Yes, I even need someone to tell me what gold card is and how I make one (if I need to that is).
Also - I am running a mac not a PC. I have access to Leopard and Snow Leopard OS's so please keep that in mind when referring to connecting the phone to a computer!!
Any more info you need then let me know.
Thanks in advance!
What about reading a guide? It's all here all you need to do is search.
It does include all the information you need, why people think they are special and need a "personal explanation" of everything?

Ofc someone could help you, but it's just a waste of time since he will be telling u to do the same as in those guides, and they are here for a reason...
And before you ask, yes they include MAC OSX guide too.
dont worrie!
dont worrie to much if i can do it anyone can just read all you can what you dont understand am sure that somone on here will only be to happy to help if you go wrong it'll be all backed up so you can put it back anytime hope this helps you!
Yeah, I am lending my support too - Jellybean will solve all your problems with your device.

I wouldn't flash a ICS or a JB rom if you are a first time flasher. You'll be giving yourself more problems to deal with than necessary for a beginner. Flash Gingerbread roms until you know your way around...

OK. Firstly, thanks for the help so far. I had already looked at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084 but it referred to Windows only. However, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189 is better for Macusers and I hadn't seen that link before. So it does seem easier than I first thought as he explains it very well. Still have questions though (and bear with me here)
From what I understand, the stages I need to go thru are:
1 - root the phone
2 - use alpharev to get the phone to S-off
3 - partition the SD card
4 - backup using alpharev's backup menu
5 - download and install a custom rom.
Firstly - how can I use alpharev with a Mac. It doesn't seem possible.
Secondly - at which stage can I get the phone to move apps2sd and how do I go about doing that? Or is that after I install a new rom? Will it move all the apps I want to the sd card?
Thirdly - in case things go wrong, what is the best way to backup the phone as it is before doing anything?
Thanks, and sorry if these have been addressed before but I am finding it hard to get clear answers that don't assume too much knowledge.

1. You need either Windows or Linux
2. After flashing ROM, most of em does it automatically (if you partitioned SD correctly, use 4ext recovery to do so)
3. I did never backup stock HTC ROM, i see no point in doing that since you can just restore to stock with RUU.
There's an app to backup sms messages in the play store that works with your gmail account. It let's you export.a backup file to your gmail account and you can also see the messages when logged into gmail. Then you can import from your gmail to restore them, it doesn't require root.
App is in the playstore. Contacts and stuff should be synced to your google account, you may want to export a file from the contacts app to the sd card and then copy or to the computer. You do that from the people or contacts app by pressing menu and settings or preferences usually. Exporting as a .vcf file I believe is what its called, then you can use any email program on computer even webmail to import them. If they aren't all on your gmail you need to have them there so when you wipe your phone and then sign into google it will restore them automatically.

1 - oh bugger! I'll drag my old XP partition out on the mac I guess!
2 - what is 4ext recovery? I also have heard of 3ext. EDIT: OK - just read the info in the link in your sig. Seems to do pretty well everything. Do I download this app before going thru the whole rooting thing?
3 - I downloaded a RUU file earlier (mac version) from a link on these boards which apparently matches my current phone. It's on my computer but I have no idea what to do with it.
Sorry but I really don't quite understand what others probably find very obvious, or I am at least unwilling to assume something that may leave me with a bricked phone. Better to ask.

You wipe all the data using recovery (required to flash new ROM's), obviously you also flash ROM's using it.. You can also partition SD, backup current ROM etc.
http://www.4ext.net/get.php?apk (link to recovery, you need S-OFF first)
RUU restores your phone to factory default state.
Trust me it will be easier if instead asking you'll start doing it, and ask if you're stuck on something.

So do I use alpharev to backup or 4ext? Or can either of them do this? According to this guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084) you use alpharev in step 6.

I agree totally - just want to clear the path as best as possible before I take the plunge.
Dude, this is 1 of your posts.. just do it.
1 - root the phone
2 - use alpharev to get the phone to S-off
4 - install 4ext recovery
3 - partition the SD card (using recovery)
4 - backup (using recovery)
5 - download and install a custom rom.
Simple as that, you know everything you need i'm gone for now.

go here also check the all things root guide in my sig. basicaly download for windows/mac and fill in the drop down boxes to get ur beta key. plug in ur phone and run the tool u downloaded, paste in the beta key in command window and hit enter, it will also ask do u want to in lstall Clockworkmod recovery? yes. let it finish and u should be s-off then flash superuser zip file in recovery to gain root. Read that guide in my sig first

Yeah, you have good hboot for revolutionary so go for it.
After you're done with S-OFF, go into recovery and flash this package for root access: http://downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/Superuser-3.0.7-efgh-signed.zip
Then just reboot, install 4ext recovery, go into recovery wipe everything (full wipe/dalvik/system/boot), partition SD with 1GB EXT3 or 4, and flash ROM.
Right guys - thanks! (Sorry k3lcior - I'm limited to 8 thanks per day apparently).
I'm think that's my project this evening. Hopefully I won't be on here asking stupid questions if I get all confused but it does seem pretty straightforward when you put it like that.

[HELP] Problems with Desire after recovery

Hi guys,
I´ve got a stock Desire with Android 2.2.2. (OTA update some two years ago). Some days ago I noticed my camera was not working nor did the flashlight app. After turning off and on the device a couple of times the flashlight started working again but not the camera. Trying to fix what I thought might be a software problem I went into Hboot menu and into recovery and selected reboot. Nothing seemed to have changed until i noticed my battery was only lasting for 4 or 5 hours when it used to last at least 1,5 days. Also, I just noticed my 3G mobile network connection is not working either.
How may I correct this? I've already tried a factory reset but without success. I was just looking at an youtube video from a XDA member about flashing RUU's and thought that it might do it. Is there a difference between flashing a RUU and a factory reset? I'm not very confortable doing it as I've never rooted or flashed any device, but I'm willing to take the chance...
Thanks for your support...
Flashing a ruu is basically reinstalling the stock firmware. Factory resetting is just wiping the data on the phone.
If you want to flash a ruu, check my sig. Download the 2.3 ruu. Don't change the zip name. Take the zip and put it on the root of your sd-card, and boot in hboot. Then select "yes" and wait.
This will upgrade your firmware to Android 2.3.3, which is faster than froyo, but it will wipe all your internal data.
merante ridicule
Thank you for your reply.
Now it´s clearer to me. Factory reset doesn't correct any system issues.
I already found the RUU i currently have on my phone, but maybe I could upgrade to 2.3. Does the RUU in your sig work for my Desire?
My data are:
Andriod version: 2.2.2.
Baseband: 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
Kernel: 2.6.32.15-gfa401c
Software number: 2.29.405.14
Just a small update concerning the battery issue: it seems to be the battery itself which is the problem. I installed a new one last night and now battery behaviour is back to normal. I will try the old one again though, in order to be sure it's gone.
The ruu in my sig works for your desire. It actually works for almost every Bravo on the market.
Thank you once again.
I just managed to correct my 3G problem also. I didn't restore the network definitions after the factory reset (didn't know I had to or how it is done ), but after a quick call to tech support it is fixed.
Now I will probably give the RUU update a try and also root and s-off (must resaerch a little more - XDA forum has tones of good info :good...
In my sig, there's a Desire All Root guide. Check it out.

Hi, some developments and more help needed
Followed the guides above and now my Desire is rooted, s-offed using revolutionary and 4ext recovery is installed and I've partitioned my new 32 GB sdcard with 2GB ext4. Sadly, I've not updated to android 2.3.3 with the PB99IMG RUU, so I'm still with the 2.2.2.
But, even after sd partition, my available internal memory has not increased. What do I have to do to install all new apps on the sd?
If I update now for 2.3.3. using PB99IMG will I lose root and s-off? If I have to flash a new rom, which do you suggest? I'm used to the stock htc sense and don't really want to upgrade unless I have to.
I would really appreciate any suggestions...
Tks.
Don't use the RUU. You will lose root and s-off. Just install a custom rom, and your storage will increase.

Could you please suggest a stable rom based on gingerbread with htc sense (early versions prefered) and also point out a detailed noob friendly tutoorial for flashing roms? I must do some more research but if you could point me out in the right direction it would be very useful
Sorry to be such a pain in the a**, but I'm just getting started in the rom world and not very tech inclined also...
