Help stook on Hboot - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
Yesterday my HTC desire was working fine and while charging the phone rebooted and it now stuck in the Hboot screen, The problem is the Volume rocker doesnt seem to respond (even though it was working fine before it rebooted).
Due to this i am unable to select an option to try and install/ wipe things.
the screen i have says =
AlphaRev CM7 r2
Bravo pvt4 ship S-off
Microp-051d
touch panel-synt0101
radio-5.17.05.23
Aug 10 2010 17:52:18
Hboot usb plug
etc...
Now like i said before the volume doesnt work so i cant select anything. I have ADB installed on the pc ( i have flashed this phone many times so i have all the kits downloaded).
I am unable to see the device via ADB devices, android flasher etc.. so windows isnt picking the phone up.
I have tried to use bortak guide but because i cant use the rocker i really cant do anything, even the PB99IMG.zip method wont work as again at the end it needs a selection, when it comes up with the 10 options i dont get the final bit for the yes or no option.
The RUU way wont work either.
I have formatted the SD card etc...
So Any help would be Fab.
The phone was working fine, it wasnt dropped or anything so i dont have a clue and i think ive read that many threads i cant see anymore!
Thanks in advance
Scott

anyone?
Thanks

Hi All, can anyone help me with this? i am going to boot in to ubuntuto see if i can see the phone from there, can anyone help me with command in there on how to do the recovery from there?
Thanks

Maybe a hardware failure? I suppose your warranty is over, if not i'd send it in. Have you tried to go directly to fastboot (back+power)?

i have tried power + vol + and also back + power (both ways where you leave it for 2 mins before pressing anything)
I have replaced the SD card etc...
the only option i have is hboot, the pc see's the phone in the sense it shows it as an android device but because its only in hboot mode i cant flash anything to it, adb devices shows nothing.
i cant return the phone because i have installed custom roms on it and because i cant RUU it couldnt return it if i wanted to

here is a video and photo of it
here is a video and a photo attached of the issue

i have even tried following this thread too but that didnt help

They might fix it nevertheless. And if they don't, they'll throw it away for you. I suppose that's also what you'll be doing in the end.

ok guys, i have managed to get in to the fastboot and i have cleared everthing and restored a rom and i booted in to it, yeah!
but then i wanted to take it back to the RUU state just in case i need to return it.
i ran RUU_Bravo_TMO_UK_1.21.110.4_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_127570_signed and RUU_Bravo_TMO_UK_1.15.110.11_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_122755
but both failed near the end with error = error [110] file open error
the ROM update utilty cannot open the requested files or the files are damaged. the RUU cannot continue the update.
please get a complete RUU package and try again.
i have downloaded it a few time just in case.
Any help on how to tackle this bit? as i can no longer get in to hboot etc...

You cant run RUUs without flashing a hboot downgrader since you are using CM7r2 Hboot.

I managed to downgrade the hboot and recovery and then i got the RUU to install, it finished and said your ready to reboot.
Guess what, now my phone will charge but will not boot at all. When pressing the power button nothing happens

Seems even though i installed the t-mobile uk rom (which the phone is from ) the slcd is blank.
If i attach the usb to pc, it picks up the phone.
I cant RUU again because even though the battery is 100% it thinks its lower than 30%, i have even tried another battery, still didnt help.
Any ideas?

[Q] I think I've bricked my Desire - HELP PLEASE

Let me see if I can explain.
I was running Opendesire 4.0.15 (had been rooted using Revoked on a Mac).
I had modified the recovery using Revoked using amon-ra's ps3 image so I have no proper recovery.
I notices using OD Updater that OD 4.0.16 was available, downloaded that and let it flash it itself.
Now the phone doesn't boot properly, I get the O2 splash screen then what looks like a dark grey screen with very thin vertical coloured bands then back to O2 splash.
It occasionally show the Android screen but not much else.
Once it got to the setup screen with the Touch Android to begin picture and the animated finger. However there was a FC on screen and the touchscreen didn't work, so I couldn't progress.
I can get into fast boot and even the modified recovery but I can't see what to do to get a rom onto it or get it to boot up so I can re revoke it for a proper recovery.
It seems if I leave it long enough it gets to the setup screen but no touch screen working. Then it re-boots.
Can anyone suggest how to get a proper recovery file on at least??
Any help gratefully received.
Edit
From Hboot I can see

So it's an SLCD then?
Please help I can't afford another phone.
Thank you.
I can see the device from fastboot, (fastboot devices lists it by it's serial number)
is there any way for get either a new rom or even just recovery onto it from this commandline?
Anyone?
Please
this is what I get, any clues?

RUU see's it, (when I have it in bootloader) but when it runs through and reboots the phone, the phone sticks on an H T C screen and the pc is counting looking for bootloader but never sees it.
OK, got the HTC screen, unplugged USB, plugged it back in, ran RUU again, started uploading, green bar moving across screen, then it rebooted, waiting for bootloader, RUU then failed, black screen on phone now, no bootloader, no splashscreen nothing.
It vibrates if I hold power button, it doesn't if I hold back button or VOL down with power button.
Now it's dead.

what RUU did you flash it with?
sounds like you flashed it with a pre slcd screen RUU
the only O2 one I could find on here
RUU_Brav2_UK_1.20.207.1_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_124865.exe
Now I can still get bootloader / fastboot working, I see it in my device manager and the fastboot command sees it again, is there anything I can do from there?
(damn thing is only 3 weeks old).
Thanks for reply btw
Managed to get a newer Froyo RUU to run to the same stage as I had before so now got a display back , hBoot 093 still for the borked recovery
is there anything I can do other than send it back to HTC?
thanks for reading, really really stuck here.
with files on sd card (pb999.img etc) it now checks those then says CID incorrect
where is it getting stuck now?
is this a branded device? (if unbranded was it branded before)
what did you flash it with?
Is your gold card present?
what os are you using to flash it?
Have you tried using the downgrade utility to flash it back to a version of 2.1? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256
Hello again )
ok it now just goes to the white screen with the 3 androids skateboarding I have have hboot or fastboot, I don't know the significance of those.
if I select recovery it goes to amonra's poc-psfreedom so I can't even reflash it from there
it was originally an O2 UK phone so has the O2 bubbles on screen
I don't have a gold card :i(
I run a mac but I have installed xp on bootcamp to try to resolve this.
I can see the phone is device manager as Android USB Device - My HTC
It boots to the white screen now when I plug in the usb cable
it had been running happily on OpenDesire 4.0.15 with no problem, but when I called the updater to bring it to 4.0.16 it turned into this mess.
the downgrade utility requires a gold card doesn't it? I don't have one (
edit - more info
the RUU file I have tried again is
RUU_Bravo_Froy2_UK_2.14.207.1_Radio_32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_144166_signed.exe
it tells me it will go from image version 1.20.207.3
to image version 2.14.207.1
it starts and brings a black screen onto the phone with HTC on it, starts working then fails with erroe 171 usb connection error. (perhaps I need a different usb driver installed?)
edit again - if I unplug the usb cable I get the white screen but only RUU but pull battery and get fastboot hboot back
Hold the press
I think I've recovered it now.
Using that RUU, everytime it stalled out and said waiting for bootloader I tapped the power button and it continued, flashed the whole thing now I seem to have an official O2 Froyo!
Thanks for your input mate.
i dont know how you uninstall that psfreedom stuff, people should just buy the dongle and not risk bricking their mobile phones.
Try intalling the latest version of htc sync or use a pure windows pc rather than bootcamp see if that rectifies it.
its not hard to create a goldcard if you have a microsd slot, I do recommend you make one using the tool from modaco. and try using the downgrader. it could be that the psnation tool is conflicting the the bootloader now its .93
EDIT: was on a call mid type and posted this while you have replied.
Glad its sorted
It's sorted now, thank you.
Dongle is in the post mate.
I really appreciate your input there, I was feeling kinda lonely!
Now it's on what appears to be O2 official Froyo, means no root, DOH!
Cheers fella.
you can use the downgrader tool to downgrade hboot and firware.
then you can root and flash a rooted 2.2 405 rom like the one teppic made
it would then be on the latest 2.2 for EU and be rooted with a compatible hboot
im on hboot 93, im waiting for unrevoked. they seem to be taking an age
You are a genius, I'll have a play tonight.
Thanks mate. - SUPERSTAR -

[Q] Another i broke my phone thread. [HTC Desire Brick]

Hoping someone can help me with this.
Ive been searching around various forums and such and the level of info is slightly overwhelming. Im kinda at at loss of which
route to go down. However most of what i have tried has not worked.
I have an HTC Desire, it was origanally running on orange. However, i unbranded it and unlocked it then installed a stock
HTC rom. Eventually updated to Froyo. This was done some time ago and i really dont remember what steps i took.
The Phone has been running fine with no issues, reboots or lockups at all. I had been using a "Three" sim and running fine for months.
I was playing "Angry Birds" (damn addictive game) with the charger plugged in an charging when the phone rebooted and got stuck on the HTC
Boot logo screen.
Im totally unable to boot into android and alas cant access the system.
It seems im unable to access adb in anyway but i seem to be able to run fastboot commands somewhat successfully.
I have no real way to access the SD card, i have no micro sd card convertor and i guess i cant access it if i cant boot into
android?
The only real info i can provide is from the Power+Back Screen:

Unfortunately i bought this phone on ebay, so i cant send it back to orange (it was someones contract replacement, and uneeded)
Having read around it seems that HBOOT 93 and SHIP S-ON pretty much makes this unrecoverable?
Any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks in advance

Partly answered my own question. Seems im able to add items to the sd card via fastboot flash /sdcard/ filename
However still not sure what files to add
could you boot into the recovery?
in fastboot mode, use vol down and power button to select.

Yes, however upon pressing recovery it goes back to the HTC Boot Logo.
Bumping this for my sanity.
have you tried flashing a PB99IMG.zip?
Ive tried sending a few PB99IMG files via fastboot flash /sdcard/ PB99IMG.zip
The file seems to send fine and i can see the progress bar on the fastboot interface on the phone. However i always get a message back about the signature being wrong. Perhaps as a result of the wrong PB file?
your phone crashing without you doing anything except gaming could indicate an hardware issue.
anyways, first of all, going to htc boot logo when choosing recovery is pretty normal - it takes about 20 seconds until recovery is started.
if it doesnt start after that time, your internal data is bugged. install one of those RUU roms, to bring back you phone to factory default os. you have to root it again afterwards, but it should restore a working system.
there are a lot of other ways to restore your phone, but try these first
Murdock thanks for the advice. I had previously tried a a few RUU's however it would never let me install a version older than i already had.
I also had a fair few niggles getting the PC to recognise my phone during RUU install.
I got around this by using the older version of HTC sync which worked great (v 2.0.40)
After searching around i managed to find:
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.10.405.2_R_Radio_32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_142828_signed.exe
This worked fine and currently the phone is working. However, it has rebooted itself once. I can only hope it stays stable as ive no idea about persistant boot issues.
If anyone is interested in the older version og HTC Sync or the Froyo RUU i shall be happy to upload them

Possible brick. Bootloader access but no recovery. Any suggestions?

EDIT: Check post 10 for an update on progress after running the stock RUU
Been reading XDA for awhile, first time posting. I'll try to put as much information on here as possible so please excuse the long drawn out post.
Have been running MIUI 11.16 release on Evo 4g until two days ago. My evo began bootlooping in my pocket, which happens sometimes but usually on the splash screen. This is usually fixed by a battery pull and a ROM reflash in Clockwork Recover. However, on this occasion my phone has been bootlooping on the HTC screen. I booted into bootloader and attempted to then boot into recovery but the loop continued.
I have the original PC361.zip still on my SD card so decided to run the update and see if that would reset things. The update was successful and I attempted to boot recovery . The HTC screen flashes and proceeds to a black screen with 5 vibrates and a blinking LED. This now happens every time I turn on the phone with booting into the bootloader.
I attempted (perhaps incorrectly) to flash clockwork recovery through Fastboot USB through my Mac Terminal, but have been unable to do so as it won't allow a remote flash.
./fastboot flash /recovery /Users/****/Desktop/android-sdk-mac_x86/tools/recovery-clockwork-1.8.1.7-supersonic.zip
sending '/recovery' (808 KB)... OKAY
writing '/recovery'... FAILED (remote: not allowed)
So, to recap. Normal boot results in 5 vibrates and a green LED flash that is only reset by a battery pull. Fastboot access is available, but perhaps not usable by remote access. No access to recovery. Cannot mount SD card onto my Mac (not sure if that's a given). Top of bootloader screen says the following:
Supersonic EVT2- 3 ship s-off

I've done a lot of forum hopping and reading and it seems like this is the most relevant information for trying to fix this problem. At this point, my only real goal is to make a phone call or two so I'm not worried about keeping my root since that can be fixed later. Any suggestions would be much appreciated and I can furnish any information you might need.
Thanks
Have you tried flashing a stock ROM RUU updater from www.shipped-roms.com?
This may not get you into your rooted state with your custom rom, but should at least get you into a usable state.
You should still be rooted afterwards, but will need to run UNREVOKED FOREVER, to get your clockwork recovery back.
Just downloaded an executable RUU filed from Shipped ROM's. I'll go find a Windows system and give it a shot. I'll update in a bit.
I think the .exe is finding the android device, but doesn't do anything after update is hit. Is there a way to connect my phone to the computer to run this .exe through bootloader?

Just tried with hboot usb plug hooked up and it didn't recognise. I'll try to install HTC Sync and give it another shot. Thank you guys for the help so far.
The RUU successfully installed and booting the phone no longer causes the 5 vibrations and the green LED. The phone is still bootlooping at the HTC screen going to a black screen and then rebooting.
This is the first breakthrough I've made in days. Any ideas on where I should go from here?
I would think maybe flash radio, then they to flash recovery. Maybe wait until someoe else chimes in though

I tried to flash recovery through Fastboot and my Mac terminal, but I'm still being denied remote access.
A quick update on the situation to try to consolidate any progress so far...
I successfully flashed the stock RUU which should have returned everything back to stock. I'm still stuck in a bootloop from the HTC screen to black screen but no longer have the 5 vibrates and the flashing green LED.
My Bootloader heading is as thus...

Booting into recovery from Bootloader still causes the boot cycle meaning that the RUU didn't fix everything. Also, S-OFF still seems to mean that the root appears to be in place (maybe?) so no luck of returning it to sprint. Still cannot remote flash from the command prompt in windows.
I'm not sure what to do next. If I had to wager a guess it would have something to do with the PC36img.zip file, even though I'm not totally sure what this means or which one I should attempt to load. If this is the case, I can go buy an SD card reader today and attempt to load another up if anyone can suggest one.
Again, thanks for all of the help.

did you try to unroot don't know if you used unrevoked but if you did try to flash the s-on tool and then flash the 3.29 ruu that should put you back up to stock and load good but if it doesn't then you may have a corrupted nand. Borrowed Desire won't boot (white screen)

Hi!
First off, I've been searching for the answer all afternoon, but with no luck.
Here's the thing. My GF borrowed my friends old Desire, because her Legend broke.
When we tried to boot it up, it was stuck at the white HTC screen. So i entered Hboot and tried to use recovery with no luck. Recovery was also stuck at white screen.
My friend had removed his SD card before we borrowed the phone. Could that be the problem? Both me and my friend are pretty new to rooting/flashing. All the info he could give me, was that he was running some Modaco rom, and had used Unrevoked to root the phone.
I tried to download a Modaco rom and rename it PB99IMG.ZIP and putting it at the root of our own SD card. No luck.
Then i tried to put the update.zip (CWM file) with the hope that I could then load recovery. Also no luck.
Also tried to plug in USB cable, so that I could maybe wipe phone and install a new RUU. USB was recognized in Hboot (HBOOT USB PLUG status), but no access gained on the computer. I have manually installed drivers.
My friend lives a bit far away. So is there a way I can solve this without his SD card?
Thanks in advance!
- Rasmus, Denmark

bortak> Awesome guide, will check it out right away!
Okay, so now i followed bortaks guide. Created a gold card, downloaded latest recommended RUU, and then ran it while connected with fastboot usb.
At first i had problems when the RUU rebooted the bootloader. The phone shut down and disconnected instead of rebooting. Tried a few times, and finally got the installation to move on by keeping the phone "alive" through pressing vol buttons -although with a black screen.
But by 29%, while updating radio, the installation froze. After some time i unplugged USB and let the installation fail. So now I'm stuck with the four triangles with exclamation marks. I can run the RUU again and again, but it keeps freezing at various stages of installation.
What to do? It's not bricked, so there must be hope?
Can I take a different approach? Through ADB perhaps?
Thanks again!
RUU installation keeps freezing on my pc! Tried to click vol button to perhaps keep the phone "alive", but then I got error 155
Can't seem to find anything on Google about RUU installs that freezes - do any of you know what to do? Can't I use ADB or anything to flash the ROM?

unfortunately yes, if you unplug the phone and turn it on, it should boot in RUU mode, at what point does it say FAIL! ?
if it is on the radio, then I'm afraid it's bricked.. if you managed to luck out somehow and it isn't, then you could try again.
When i turn it on, the black splash screen with exclamation marks comes on. If i try to turn it on with usb cable plugged in while running XP mode on virtual machine, i see the white screen with version informations. But it only says RUU with an orange background.
Tried to install the new Gingerbread RUU from the HTC hp, but it still freezes. Think I'm out of luck
hmm... stick your phone in the freezer (in a plastic bag) for 5-10 minutes then try again.
I know it may sound strange.. but it may be overheating or something.
Whoever you borrowed this from will not be happy haha

Which RUU are you trying to install?
I had the same issue when I realised I was trying to install a 2.1 RUU on my desire which was a bit silly, I had identical problems. used the correct 2.2 RUU and all ok
voodooboy3000 - Was trying to install official 2.3 Gingerbread RUU.
elliottg61 - It was crashing all the time when he had it, so he said i could have it if I could fix it. I couldn't
I would give the original firmware a go and get it back to stock. was it originally locked to a specific provider? if not use this RUU

Your not even s-off. How did he use anything to root. Granted my experience is with the bravoC. The GSM I'm sure is different. I would find the newest ruu available and try to flash that from hboot. If it takes forever go away. Don't touch it. Don't unplug it. Don't do anything till its done. If it wont flash after 30 minutes your screwed I think. U can try it over again. But if u have an official ruu it should flash no problem. If it gonna flash.
Try flashing a shooter port on the og evo, or flash a rom on the shooter. It can seem to hang on you for a while but it just takes time.
Edit: try this just rename it and stick on root of SD card and boot phone with volume down and power and then leave it be.

[Q] HTC Desire RUU Help!!

I all, my friend recently gave me an HTC Desire, which fails to boot at the HTC logo on a white background. I thought it would be a case of simply reflashing the firmware but I can't get any of them to work what-so-ever, here are the details of my attempts so far-
RUU_Bravo_Vodafone_UK_1.19.161.5_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126338_signed - Fails at 140 Error
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_Vodafone_UK_2.33.161.2_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_157522_signed - Fails at 170 Error
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed - Fails at 170 Error
i'm not sure what I am doing wrong - here are the phone details--
Vodafone UK Branded - Sim Lock
Bravo PVT3 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT 0.93.0001
MIRCOP-051D
TOUCH PANEL- SYNW0101
RADIO-5.11.05.27
AUG 10 2010, 17:52:18
CURRENT IMAGE 2.33.161.6
Any help would be great, I have no idea of what other RUU I could use.
**Update**, I have also tried copying the rom.zip from each RUU and renaming the file to PB99IMG.zip and then copying it to the SD Card, booting into recovery and selecting BOOTLOADER / FASTBOOT, which then changes to FASTBOOT / HBOOT which then says it the wrong image!!
try 2.3 gb upgrade in my sig (PB99IMG)

I read online that the GB version wasn't very good and its best to stay with Froyo unless that statement is wrong
**update**
I managed to get this RUU_Bravo_Froyo_Vodafone_UK_2.33.161.2_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_157522_signed.exe onto the phone, I had tried this already until I started repeatedly pressing the power key in the recovery menu and it started to install and was successful. its just rebooted but is it normal for it to stay on the white HTC screen for a while, it's been a few mins so far.
**update 2** I reflashed it and it now says Radio_V2 Failed-PU, not sure what this means
**update 3** the phone rebooted after the failed update and it now appears to have diesda death, not sure what has happened or how to fix it. it won't switch on, responed when connected to a computer, nor can i get it into recovery, any idea's on a fix?
radio fail is the worste fail u could get. the only way iv seen it being fixed is running the 2.3 gb upgrade from HTCDev over and over again till it works (if it works) good luck

How do you install it, it's a .tar.gz file and how do you install it onto a phone that won't boot up, gonna need help with this one if.
u flash it from bootloader. phone off then hold volume down + power. then plug it into ur computer and run the file.
if u want, check my sig, the PB99IMG of it is there, just put it on ur sdcard then vol down + power then bootloader will find it and ask to update, volume up for yes. make sure uv plenty power on ur battery. all u can do is keep trying, hopefully it will work.

As I have said it's not coming on even when I do the volume down + power, I left it connected to it's charger last night but i'm not sure it even did that as there was no led indication it was charging,
also each other time I put the file named PB99IMG it never asked to update it only ever said there was a file missing, that's when I came across the little trick of repeatedly pressing the power button while in the bootloader which seemed to force it as there was an status indicator in the top right corner which filled up, then it asked to update, the first flash went ok, but it hanged on the white HTC boot screen and did nothing for 20 mins so I started again and that's when I got a failure.

Does the phone boot anymore? No led flash, anything? You may have bricked your phone for good. Try following bortak's giude, or ask there about your problem.
