I dropped my GN and now the screen is weird.
Phone boots fine and screen looks fine until a few seconds *after* the desktop completely appears. Then it turns really, really dim with a purple tinge. Brightness and color are fine until after it completely boots up.
I tried a battery pull. Same thing happens. Something broke?
You dropped it.
The screen isn't working correctly any more.
Yes I would say something broke.

harvey, I toggled parameters under settings. no change. I have to set the screen on maximum brightness to see anything, the maximum brightness i can tweak now is still very dim; nothing returns it to normal.
if there are no obvious signs of dropping the phone (cracks or dents around the housing) you could try sending it back to samsung for replacement, and just say that you woke up one day and its fooked lol

I have insurance on it. Doesn't that cover drops? Do you know how long I will be without a phone if I bring it into a VZW store? Thanks
Well you did ask if something broke, don't be an arse when someone replies with an answer.
Anyways, just sell it and get a new one, the screen on the GNex is ridiculously expensive. Literally worth half the phone. https://www.wholesalegadgetparts.com/product.php?productid=18791&cat=1026&page=1

Depends what the insurance says it covers, some are just extended warranties on the tech, they don't cover accidental damage. And idk how Verizon does it, but my gf went into Sprint, told them the camera stopped working (it did, as a result of water damage ) and they gave her a new one on the spot.

theking, I'll be more literal next time.
I'll go over to Verizon and see what my options are under the Asurion warranty. I'm tempted to buy a new one if I can get it for $199, then sell the broken one for what I can get. I want to exhaust my options here before bringing in the phone because wiping the phone, restoring to stock, and then possibly being without one for a few days is a pain.
Thanks for the comments on the warranty. I'll just drop in. Problem is that the phone is rooted and ROMed so I have to finesse that issue.
Oddly enough, I have this same exact problem. I didn't drop mine, however. I rebooted the phone and it just started doing this. The backlight seems to work fine in recovery, during the boot animation, and the initial screen after boot. After about 5 seconds it then goes to this very dim screen. I can't help but think that if it "broke" somehow that the backlight wouldn't come on at all.

I'm guessing a sensor or regulator got whacked in the drop. I don't seem to be able to find any references via Google to others with our situation.

depends on the coverage you got if insurance will replace it and there will be a deductible.
you wont get another for $199 unless you have an upgrade on a line that you are willing to burn to get it.

Ok. Whatever it is, it seems to be something subtle. Any luck on finding a fix?
Not yet. I'm restoring to a previous backup to see if I still have the problem or not.
EDIT: Restoring back to a previous nandroid backup resolved the issue. The backlight no longer goes dim. It had to have been something in the software somewhere freaking out.
Hang on.... Are you guys running Franco Kernel? His latest app update screws up the colour control and causes all multipliers to stick on 418 or something similar if you don't adjust them before a reboot (after app update). Try checking the colour multipliers before nandroid or sending off Samsung!
Regards.
Interesting. I'm not running Franco, but I do have the Kernel Update App of his (running Imoseyon Lean Kernel). Luckily, I did a nandroid backup before I restored back to the previous nandroid.

My screen randomly freezes, with Android still running in the background. It also has multicolored "snow" static-like crap on the screen instead of an image half of the time, especially when unlocking the screen. Happens when the kernel hasn't even finished booting as well. I also get visual artifacts appearing on screen, which would be expected if my GPU was OC'd, but it's not. Tried stock, didn't help, so I know it's a hardware problem.
I suspect it might be the slider ribbon, or the screen itself, but I want to know what it most likely is before trying to order parts and spending the money. If it's being caused by the GPU, I'm just gonna pick up a new part-time job and buy a new phone altogether..
Any ideas?
Same problem, same suspicions. I'm taking mine apart and will advise.
Got it back together... no change. Might just be the GPU.
Sometimes while the screen is glitching, moving the slider gets it to work. I'm thinking the ribbon cable in the slider might be damaged on the inside.
I'm gonna try replacing it since the part is $11 on Ebay.

I'm wondering if the actual flex cable itself. Since I just derped and sat on my phone and broke the digitizer, I'm just gonna get the whole screen assembly (Since it's only about 5$ cheaper). It could be a while though. I can't order it till next tuesday.
I used to have similar problems on my g2 until I replaced the flex cable. But then again, the image seems to freeze and occasionally glitch, so I'm wondering if there's a faulty solder connection somewhere since shaking/beating/banging on the phone seems to also fix it sometimes.
I managed to dig up four old threads where multiple people had the exact same problems as me, replaced the flex cable, then had zero issues afterwards.
I was just reading them an hour ago. 100% sure the cable is the problem for my phone.
Now it's just a waiting game, first waiting until I have some cash, then waiting for the e-cheque to clear, then the shipment.. I'm gonna have to wait at least a month unless somebody goes and ships one to my door instantly.. Which obviously ain't gonna happen as I'm not a developer and just someone who helps ppl with their phones.
I'm gonna save up and buy a new phone, then give this one to my 11 year old niece after it's repaired. By the time I have enough cash for one of those new HTC models, the cable should be here.

Well if you do it before me, please let me know!! And I'll be sure to report back! I'll order the screen assembly next tuesday.

Sorry to resurrect this...
Sorry to resurrect this out of the blue, but I am also having a similar problem.
I have not rooted my R800at, but noticed first that the screen would sometimes stretch or skew into an absurdly distorted shape, only to snap back to normal after unlocking the screen.
Then, a few days ago, I also started to get this colorized snow pattern on my screen. I was wondering if you managed to fix your phone by ordering the cable? Also, not to sound too much like a pathetic n00b, is there a .doc somewhere (Or PDF) showing how to disassemble the phone to replace the cable, if that indeed fixed the problem?
I am going to see if AT&T will warranty the phone (Less than a year old, more than 30 days, not more than 90) but I am unsure if it is going to cost me an arm and a leg to do so.

The phone comes with a one-year manufacturer warranty. Since you aren't rooted or unlocked, send it in for repair. If you open up the phone to fix the cable yourself you'll end voiding the warranty permanently. If something else breaks later down the road that's harder to fix, you're gonna need it.

hey everyone well after reach tru this thread i think my flex cable is the problem as well
a while back when i unlock the fone the screen just use to be all jumpy (but i dont think dat was related to the flec cable problem cuz after changing wallpaper it stopped)
but like ah few weeks after i changed my rom, if i didn't slide out my gampad my phone wouldn't unlock, sometimes when i turn it off(the phone vibrates as usual but the screen nevr comes on) and then now like its completely gone i'm getting nothing from the screen anymore
so i'm guessing its the flex cable
and i think thats the reason for my front camera to stop wrking as well
FIX!

Hello people,
I was hoping somebody could help me, my phone got wet(stupid i know) and shut down because of the water.
I pulled the battery and put my phone in rice for a day, at first it wouldnt boot and kept refreshing the google logo, after awhile it started to boot normally (and work normally) except booting which took 2 or 3 google refreshes before it started bootanimation, and with the charger plugged in it took more(like 5).
Im not sure what is happening with booting, may be related to my next problem, the camera stopped working.
when i start up camera all i get is a black screen and my navbar buttons, no shutter button, no error or w/e just nothing. sometimes not even all the navbars show up.
Other then that the phone is working normal so i dont know if it is a soft- or hardware problem.
Does anybody know what is going on?
Id like to pull a logcat but it isnt working for me, says adb isnt a internal or external command after installing all the sdk tools etc.

Know that feel bro. i was scared ****less. but still the camera broke.
Any update on this?
I have EXACTLY the same situation with a little more info. Seems weird that the same components die in the same manner with water damage. Some traces too close together?
My phone wasn't actually soaked, just very humid. Was in my jacket pocket while running in a downpour. Jacket is completely waterproof, unfortunately it wicks a lot of water off me and the goddamn pocket is made of the same breathable wicking material. Time I realised what had happened, there was a lot of moisture in the pocket. Phone still working but .....
Flash modules no longer works. This is why the camera app fails to start. There's no error in logcat aside from the application taking too long to respond. Will dig a bit deeper here shortly, but I just found it odd that the phone is so susceptible to moisture in one specific piece of hardware. I know this isn't a ... catastrophic design flaw but it IS something any good electronics manufacturer should note and take into consideration. If a bit of moisture causes this failure reproducibly, it should be considered a design flaw, and addressed as such.
Back to the OP though. Did your phone ever miraculously start working?
Could you test if your flash module works (install a flashlight app and turn on...)?

Leave it on the rice a couple more days. And in between try to replace rice with new one. I have read in this forums number of times people who have successfully dried out their phone waited longer, that is several days in rice.

I had an ogdroid take a swim in a Pool (i was pushed in). I left the phone & battery fully submerged in a bowl of rice for 2 weeks. I changed the rice out every to days. Reinserted battery and powered Up device and it when to bootloader. I sbf the phone....worked perfect as if it never went swimming.
The longer that you can leave it....the better. Oh and replace the water detection stickers. You can buy them just about anywhere on the net.

This is my first thread so forgive if i put it in the wrong place. I wasn't sure where it should go.
So did the usual phone user mistake and dropped (threw) my phone. cracked the screen pretty good. I've messed with phones for a while now so i purchased a new screen and digitzer and tore down the phone. pulled the old screen off, replaced it with the new and everything was good as new. ran some tests with video and quick touches as well as multi-touch and zoom. everything worked great but i have no vibrate. the phone can be put into vibrate mode but it doesnt vibrate. i tried factory reset, though i figured it was hardware and not software. If anyone who has torn down these phones knows anything about the vibrate can you please guide me into fixing this?
On a side note, i also broke a little golden clip off the inside later when tinkering trying to fix the vibrate (im pretty sure it completes the circuit for sound because now i have no sound).
Bump. Sorry but this is kind of urgent. does anyone have any ideas on this?

It is possible that the connector came loose. Try checking that. The motor could have also been damaged so it make need to be replaced.

This poor phone has been through hell since I got it as a warranty replacement a few weeks ago.
Lost it in a snow bank, got pushed around by a snow plow.. was found, everything worked just a scratch on the screen.. Two weeks ago I dropped it and put a small crack in the screen then a couple days later it fell out of my pocked and completely shattered the display. New screen on the way. Now I see the accelerometer isn't working at all. See attached pic. It registers nothing at all.
I have rebooted, reinstalled my rom (liquidsmooth beta3 which is great btw).. I haven't yet done a full wipe / reload and if at all possible I'd like to avoid it.
I have no idea where to go from here. I don't see sensorservice running, not sure if that's a problem.
Anything I can look at, reconfig, remove that might help kick it back into working?

Damn man. Hold on to that damn thing or get an Otterbox or just opt for a gophone lol. No but seriously you need to buy a bulky case.
First thing that comes to mind is the auto-rotation function.. Is it turned on?
You need to learn how to take care of your things. That's just insane. I agree with WiredPirate!
Yea I've checked the rotation settings.. chrome, maps, and the accelerometer apps all are unresponsive to rotation / tilt.
I'm going to clean wipe / reformat today.
And I've never used a case / whatever on my phones and I've never had a problem. Amazingly right away when I get this one it just started being suicidal.

I'm not serious. Actually looking for information to troubleshoot the accelerometer. not because I don't want to reinstall, but because I don't think that is the only way to fix (if it isn't actually physically broken)
I am using Samsung S20. from a week or less than a week it started to show this issue of faint lines on the screen that moves. Horizontal, very faint, and blurry. I tried these fixes:
1. safe mode
2. factory reset
3. formatting cache partition
But nothing fixed the issue. can someone look into this and give a possible solution.
Sadly Samsung's service center in our is Udupi-576104 are so lethargic to respond to my emails or calls. It was closed and phone numbers are off and no response to emails. I am starting to wonder if it's a fake address or Samsung care failed to update their database.
Looks like its a display burn in to me. Its caused by high brightness and could be mitigated by turning on dark mode or so, Ive heard

Its a hardware damage not a software issue. AMOLED have a tendency to have burn in when the brightness is set on high with white background. 2/4 of my Samsung phone have the same exact issue

They move. Not burn in.
Bad display or mobo.

ooh, that's crazy. in that case, Samsung should not price the phone so expensive. this is 'concealing and stealing' from the company.

Was the display ever overheated ie use or charging in direct sunlight while running hot and/or had a thermal shutdown?
This can fry displays, been there, done that
Try clearing the system cache

Oh well... i have never noticed a display heating issue. on the back, yes, overheating while video rendering, etc..
i tried these fixes but they didn't work..
1. safe mode
2. factory reset
3. formatting cache partition
is there a difference between factory reset from settings and recovery mode factory reset??

The only difference is with a reset from settings you don't need to deal with the damn FRP.
The only thing left to try is a reflash. I think it will prove a waste of time though.
This is a hardware issue... sorry.
Water presence/damage could do this.
You may get lucky and it will be a faulty ribbon cable or ground connection.
Looks like a blown driver though

That sucks. Any recourse with the seller?
If you used a card you could fill a complaint with them. You'll need to return the phone to do so.

Oh. Take it to a local repair center you trust. Get an estimate or at least once they are into it what the repair will be before they throw money at it.
If so get the battery replaced as well.
A used Note 10+ 512 gb in good condition can be had for around $650. Stick with Pie as Android goes straight downhill from there.
B&H Photo's prices are slightly higher but they back their stuff 100% and are fast.
Maybe an upgrade be a better plan... when in doubt, punch the f^^k out
