No vibrate - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

This is my first thread so forgive if i put it in the wrong place. I wasn't sure where it should go.
So did the usual phone user mistake and dropped (threw) my phone. cracked the screen pretty good. I've messed with phones for a while now so i purchased a new screen and digitzer and tore down the phone. pulled the old screen off, replaced it with the new and everything was good as new. ran some tests with video and quick touches as well as multi-touch and zoom. everything worked great but i have no vibrate. the phone can be put into vibrate mode but it doesnt vibrate. i tried factory reset, though i figured it was hardware and not software. If anyone who has torn down these phones knows anything about the vibrate can you please guide me into fixing this?
On a side note, i also broke a little golden clip off the inside later when tinkering trying to fix the vibrate (im pretty sure it completes the circuit for sound because now i have no sound).

Bump. Sorry but this is kind of urgent. does anyone have any ideas on this?

It is possible that the connector came loose. Try checking that. The motor could have also been damaged so it make need to be replaced.

That probably wont help.... Just to be honest, if u had a backup phone i could look at for you but since u dont..... Lol.... I would suggest even getting a cheap blue samsung flip phone (verizon) all models of those have same vibrator as the e4gt

i tried, they wont cover accidental damage. And my warrantys been voided since someone opened it up..
I bought a second hand phone and it did turn on however there were a numbers of problems with my phone, it had a power button that didnt work, unresponsive parts on the lcd and a quiet in call speaker.
Your best bet before trying to replace the whole pcb is opening your phone using a teardown guide
http://tjworld.net/blog/htc-desire-z-tear-down
Make sure you read it a couple of times and go through the pics so you know what your dealing with, find the power button, make sure its intact and adjust the ribbon cables.
Otherwise just find a cell phone repairer on a classified ad like criagslist or kijiji.

I hate to say it, but it was second hand for a reason. Ever try switching the battery? How about changing the power supply?

Yes. Start simple. First check your electron hose to make sure you are getting power to the device. Also check the battery as well as the prongs that connect with the battery tabs. If things are good there, then think about tearing into the phone.

You didn't mention water damage in the OP. You said something was loose. Water damage is completly different.
Try ebay.
Hey i found these 3 ads on ebay...do you guys think that a swap of the motherboards would be fine? heres the ads. I contacted the seller and they said the battery was used and thats it but phone seemes operational....i know its a risk, but is it worth it guys?
..need help on this one.
why swap the motherboards if the new phone is working fine. Just transfer data and you're done surely?

Reason being the other phones have minor problems, like speaker doesnt work, or some of those phones wont pick up signals and i think thats due to a bad radio flash or if i just flash a radio everything should be working fine.
can someone please clarify this? if i buy a phone with a speaker problem and transfer the main PCB board to my old phone...will there still be a speaker problem? or is the speaker a separate unit itself and not related to the pcb board?

one of the phones i am bidding for says it might not be able to guarantee a connection to mobile network (send sms, make calls) could that be a radio flash problem? would i be able to fix that??
another is one of the phones boots on and shuts off, i take it that could be a bad flash or something? its only about $20. just trying to weigh my options cause the new phones are lkike bidding for $350 lol im not that rich yet
I found out that my MOTHERBOARD is fine. There was water damage but not enough to go inside to the main board! My dad tested the battery voltage and found i wasnt getting any voltage.
i went to future shop and found a lady to let me use her battery and sure enough the battery was working and phone powered on!!! so i guess my battery was shot from dropping and popping out of phone while recording a video.

[Q] Help! Smashed screen, unresponsive phone

So, the worst happened. My one year old (OLED) Desire got pile-drived hard into the concrete. Needless to say the screen smashed (the panel itself, not the covering glass/plastic) and now it wont respond to power on or charging. I know my chances of HTC repair are very small, so what can I do myself? There are a few "for spares" kicking around on eBay, is it possible I could just swap the screens out and it'll work?
I'm pretty desperate right now, can anyone give any advice? please?
And before the haters hate with "you shouldn't have dropped it", id like to point out it wasn't my fault.

Hmm swapping out the screen is quite easy IIRC you just need to make sure you get if from a OLED not AMOLED desire (although I remember reading a thread about swapping them so you could go AMOLED if you find the thread).
However you also say if doesn't power on or respond? This is worrying, fixing a screen is one thing but this.... Have you tried ringing it after turning it on just to confirm it does not turn on?
Good luck anyway, hope you can get if fixed for minimum cost!
EDIT: Here's that thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768535
Thanks for that. No I haven't tried ringing it, but surely no vibrate + no LED + no screen output means its really not powering on.

if the screen is smashed then its going to be hard to see if its booting any thing, as for no vibrate that might mean one of the motors for the vibrate has been knocked out of its place and jammed so it cant vibrate. I must admit if it was that bad of a drop then dont hold much hope for it
Yeah, calling does nothing. It really is dead isn't it Anything likely the cause? like the phone purposely wont boot if a specific part is broken, or is like the mobo probably dead?

Please help.

Phone was working 100% perfect, I got home flashed FreeGS3 rom considering it looked bad ass. I flash it everything goes all well. Until I boot it up flash back into recovery using "quick boot". Never had a problem with that app.
I go into recovery and I got this pink screen that just won't go away.
http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/9660/imag0013h.jpg
I can get it to show recovery mode, and I did do a full system wipe along with wiping everything else, and I'm on stock JB right now and the screen still will not work.
I got it to show odin earlier but now it just won't show it.
I don't even think it will go into download mode.
As of right now the phone is on and is charging and I'm receiving messages as we speak, but like I said the screen is just all pink.
I've had clark44 help me with this problem and he has never seen this before, any help is appreciated.
It can get into download mode trust me. Your gonna have to time it just right if you cant see the screen tho. Do you have debugging on by chance so you could use adb? If so plug it in and run
adb reboot download. Granted this looks hardware related

Did u happen to drop it or bump it on anything fairly hard? I ask cuz I've seen this on other devices after a screen/digitizer replacement and it happened from the ribbon cable not being fully seated on the board, a small drop or a hard bump might have unseated it if the latch wasn't fully closed during assembly, just a suggestion cuz that's the only time I've seen the crazy pink lines like that other than when LCD has started to die

I got it off craigslist i traded some guy.
But if Sprint doesn't trade me for a new one I'm going to be sad
If you're comfortable opening it up, crack it open and check the ribbon cables for the screen and digitizer, the shock of dropping it may have jarred one or both loose from the board. Like I said the only time I've seen the crazy pink lines in the screen was from improperly seated cables
Edit: if u take it to a sprint repair center they will probably check the.connections for you if you explain to them that it was the only thing you could find related when you were looking for an answer. It could also be the LCD starting to die

[Q] Does this motherboard look like toast to you?

I was told that the numerous shorts on this motherboard can't be removed, but I don't know how these things are supposed to look anyway. Does it look obvious to you, one way or the other? Is that gluey-looking stuff the problem?

Btw, how literally do "toast" and "fried" apply here? Does this look like a temperature-related problem—somehow it got too hot and essence de mobo started leaking all over (leaving that visible gunk)? Or is it something else entirely? Assuming there's enough information in that image.
I don't know how it happened. The phone has symptoms that led me to the following thread about issues with the power button: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1783404 (repeated vibration like at the beginning of the boot cycle, plus the camera flash going off)
When I dropped it off to have the power button replaced . . . well, before they opened it up, they said they thought it was a software corruption issue to be solved by re-flashing the ROM, and that the phone had probably gotten wet. (It's never been immersed, although maybe it doesn't take much ambient moisture for a phone to count as having gotten wet.) Then they called me later and said: whoa, the motherboard, we can't fix it. So I got it back, opened it up myself, and posted this image in the hopes of learning something, because I'm still not sure what to think. Following some of the power-button-related advice from the other thread does seem to help (e.g., the boot cycle proceeds much farther immediately after I tap the phone against a semi-hard surface in a way that would loosen up the power button), and I feel like that shouldn't be the case if the motherboard were such a piece of toast.

that is a gunk? I think I can speak for everone and say, we think it looks like burned, fried, melted electronics. The real test is the sniff check, if you know what it smells like.
Try scraping it with a sharp edge. If its fried, it will crumble. If gunk, it should stick to the edge.

SO FRUSTRATED. New LCD installed, black screen issue.

Hey guys how are you!
So my beloved evo's lcd broke and i just replaced it today. The strangest thing is happening.. the screen turns on fine, but once I turn it off, it wont turn back on. The three buttons at the bottom light up and the screen, i can tell, turns on. But I cant see the UI. It is definitely not a software issue and I have tried reseating the ribbon cable multiple times. What the hell? Is my evo too old? only way i can make it work is with a reboot which is super annoying.
I have one with a shattered screen I will be replacing soon. If my memory serves me correctly there are several different types of ribbon sizes. Hopefully that is not your issue. I would suggest using a bright light and looking into the female receptacle (no dirty jokes please) and make sure that nothing is bent or twisted. Also check cable that none of the connections are not chipped.
Not sure if this will help but it is worth a shot. Other than that I am not sure what could be wrong.
Peace,
Love, and
Happiness
Edit: well fine honda but just one and you have to promise that it will be clean

The screen turns on fine. Its something I've never seen or heard about.
Well what caused the problem in the first place? Did ir just stop working or was it an innocent victim lacking the proper protective coverings?
Either way there could be more hardware problems than your screen. Give this a try and tell me what happens. Plug your phone into the charger, if nothing happens with the screen try connecting to your pc, and if still nothing try a rom that has the volume keys to wake aokp/cm are a couple that I know have that option.
If that doesn't work I will see what else I can think of.

You turn on the device. Powers up ok. You can see the screen. Then what? How long till it disappears? Are you doing anything when this happens? Can you unlock the phone and see the desktop? How do you know the screen turns on fine? What exactly is giving you this impression?
Sounds to me like another broken lcd. Do you have another phone you can swap out the mainboard and help isolate the problem: mainboard or lcd/digitizer/connectors.

It powers up fine and then as soon as the screen turns off (either manually by me or by timeout), it will not turn back on. The screen powers up, the lights at the bottom turns on but its a very dark grey screen. And as you said, isolating the problem would be easy if I had another mother board. I have another one with a wide flex cable IDK if should request a replacement or if i should get a more expensive, OEM LCD.

I did my research, man. Literally tried everything. Its not software, no setting can fix it.
Think it could just be an issue with waking? The lights coming on but just a dark gray screen has happened to me with several ROMs. Bumping up the minimum CPU speed a notch or 2 usually solves it.
I asked the seller and he said it is not oem. Do you guys think it makes a difference and if I should suck it up and buy OEM?

That's what I though at first. Hours of tweaking and research and I figured it cant be a software issue.
