I got this phone from Craigslist yesterday and I've been trying to connect it to computer. The phone is not recognized... it does show that it is charging on the phone. There is no sign of any kind of device found. I'm a advanced user and I have used two different laptops and went to device manager to scan for hardware manually but still no devices show up there... not even as an unknown hardware with a question mark
My computer makes a sound each time I connect any USB drive or any hardware, there is no such sound when I plug in the nexus. I do not know what to do with it to fix it. Any recommendations?
Edit 1: The phone is on stock 4.0.2 with stock recovery installed. User who sold me said it has never been rooted and I can't find any trace of it either.
Edit 2: i have reset it to factory settings and tried it. Also, in developer options I turned on the USB debugging and trued it again. No success.

do you know if the phone is on factory images? if the phone is charging on the pc and not even popping up on the machine, sounds like fastcharge is enabled.

The phone is on the factory image and has never been rooted. It still has stock recovery on it.
I have formatted it to the factory settings twice. Its on 4.0.2
How do I make sure that it is on fast charge mode? Can we have fast charge on stock rom/recovery? Will that setting persist if I do a factory restore?

If your gnex is not rooted, chances are it's not turned on.
When you plug your gnex into your computer, does it says Charging(USB) or Charging(AC)?
If it is AC, then Fast Charge is turned on.
All of my cables that didn't come with the GN do not work in charging or being recognized by my PC.
I have to use the one that came in the box.

My computer says nothing. As if nothing is connected to it. Galaxy nexus has a charging icon on top and that's about it. It doesn't say charging USB or AC...

I've tried the galaxy nexus tool kit v7. But should it not recognize it as an unknown hardware at least? It's not even doing that.

Yes verified. It does say charging AC over there.
So is it for sure a hardware issue? How much will it cost to get it fixed?

Not necessarily will it recognize it. Go here download the updated drivers for the Nexus.

Settings > Battery.
Sorry for not telling you this.
Settings/Storage...go into the advanced menu and make sure MTP is checked..
If that doesn't work download a program called USBDEVIEW onto your computer. Make sure to Run as Administrator when you open it. Use it to delete all the drivers that say Samsung, Galaxy or Nexus. Do a clean install of the drivers using the toolkit. If your phone is charging, it SHOULD just be bad drivers or the fact that MTP isn't checked.

Yep verified. That is checked. Toggled to be sure. Rebooted... factory reset. Nothing is fixing it.
If there is a hardware issue can I claim warranty on the GSM version in USA?

If it says AC charging it sounds like someone had it rooted and turned on USB fast charge then never turned it off. There was a thread about a week ago where someone's USB connection was screwed up due to that mod.

Had some trouble flashing a while back and ever since my computer and 2 others I tried will not see my phone. I can go into odin download mode but odin of course doesn't see it either. I have used different cables, ports etc.. It also charges fine. Got a jig and while it works it didn't fix the problem. Installed and reinstalled drivers, still nothing. Thanks to mobile odin I can still flash...
Anyone have any suggestions?

Do you have the drivers from Kies installed by chance? If not that could be a very good reason it's not seeing the phone.

I went through the same problem a couple of weeks ago. No matter which drivers i installed, or computer i plugged the phone into nothing would recognize my epic touch.
The phone is still under warrenty, so i took it to sprint, and they tried plugging it into every computer they have in the store. Nothing... The phone would charge, but that was it. So i got a replacement the next day. Usb works perfect now. However the gps is weaker in this replacement :banghead: ... Ugh.

yea, cuz usb debugging matters while in download mode..
:SMFH:
That means no more Odin, and no more USB drag & drop transfer
tried in CWR mode mount
tried mounting normally
tried on several Win 7 machines (comes up as Unknown device)
tried on several Linux machines (it no longer gets detected)
i'm unable to do USB on the Go anymore, it was able to before
the problem started after i pluged in MHL adapter to HDMI
it still works on HDMI if i plug in the MHL
but, i can't find a way to reverse it
i tried even Wiping Data, Wiping DalviK, and Wiping Cache
i even tried flashing a new ROM in CWR

i just wanted to compare notes, and see if they also had this happened after doing something with he MHL adapter or something else.

Hopefully, that's what it is. I had the same problem with my Transformer. It would charge, but comps wouldn't recognize it through USB. It was solved by purchasing a new cable.
While not exactly the same, since the Transformer has a proprietary port, it seems to be a problem with integrated charging/data cables being used today. The internal wires that carry the data fail, but the power wires remain functional.

It was indeed the HTC USB cable that decided to quit on me
the faithful servant has been with me since like forever... oh well, at least it still can retire as a charging only cable. (gonna sort out the pins to get it to be detected as AC cable instead of USB csble)
tried the original one from Samsung and another one from BlackBerry and they both work fine, even the cheap generic ones from China

I had the same problem with my HTC cable and I called HTC and they replaced it with another one without asking me to return the old one..I was still under manufacturer warranty.. I called Samsung the other day and asked if my cable died on me will they replace it.. They said yes, but I will have to send in the old one first so they can check it before sending me another one.. See how different company do things..crazy.

All,
I am a 3rd party and was given a phone to try and fix. I've tried OMAPflash & SDK without any luck. I was told the person did an OTA and something about a bootloader and could have potentially dropped the phone. I was told they stated the phone wouldn't charge and then died and didn't turn back on; we've tried another battery with no luck. The phone does not power on or respond to any button combinations, but when plugged into a computer; it fails to recognize the device...even with drivers installed; so the computer can see it, it just won't load the drivers. I don't want to spend tons of money fixing a phone that isn't mine but does anyone know if a USB Jig works on a phone that's hard bricked to the point where it has no power? No fastboot or adb, neither read the phone. tried multiple computers.
My last resort is this USB Jig. Also, no warranty from sammy. I feel like i've tried everything.
Thank You in advance.
I used a jig to recover a friend's S3 after he flashed an international S3 ROM and it wouldn't boot or do anything so I suppose it could work.
Your last resort *is* the jig.
Go for it, do you know how to get one?
