That means no more Odin, and no more USB drag & drop transfer
tried in CWR mode mount
tried mounting normally
tried on several Win 7 machines (comes up as Unknown device)
tried on several Linux machines (it no longer gets detected)
i'm unable to do USB on the Go anymore, it was able to before
the problem started after i pluged in MHL adapter to HDMI
it still works on HDMI if i plug in the MHL
but, i can't find a way to reverse it
i tried even Wiping Data, Wiping DalviK, and Wiping Cache
i even tried flashing a new ROM in CWR

i know a few guys had similar issues here before about losing USB or it not longer being detected
i just wanted to compare notes, and see if they also had this happened after doing something with he MHL adapter or something else.
yeah, it kinda sucks now, i won't be able to depend on Odin to save me any more

the Note is not stable in Tmo, i can't use it as a phone yet, not reliable enough
i also had the same problem on the Note after trying the HDMI on it
however on the Note i can still do USB on the Go
Yesterday my computer was not reading my device either, but after a reboot it was good to go.

that's definitely not it, as i'm in a computer lab, i have access to over a dozen computers & laptops of all sizes to test, and i pointed that out already on the OP message
try with different usb cables, it might solve that problem.
Did you super wipe? Also, try a USB jig to get into download.

unfortunately, i do not have another USB to microUSB cable at my disposal, nor does any of my co-workers
i have a good collection at home, so... i'm hoping one of them can save me else the USB port really got damaged by the HDMI thingy
Good luck with that...hopefully all u need is a cable

hopefully it's just the cable. Also, if you have spare Nokia CA-101D usb cable, try with that. It might work.

Hopefully, that's what it is. I had the same problem with my Transformer. It would charge, but comps wouldn't recognize it through USB. It was solved by purchasing a new cable.
While not exactly the same, since the Transformer has a proprietary port, it seems to be a problem with integrated charging/data cables being used today. The internal wires that carry the data fail, but the power wires remain functional.

are you using the official mhl adapter or something cheaper from ebay?

I had the exact same thing happen. Mine was also the USB cable. Go to ebay and order a few. I paid 10 bucks for 3 OEM samsung cables

Update
It was indeed the HTC USB cable that decided to quit on me
the faithful servant has been with me since like forever... oh well, at least it still can retire as a charging only cable. (gonna sort out the pins to get it to be detected as AC cable instead of USB csble)
tried the original one from Samsung and another one from BlackBerry and they both work fine, even the cheap generic ones from China

I had the same problem with my HTC cable and I called HTC and they replaced it with another one without asking me to return the old one..I was still under manufacturer warranty.. I called Samsung the other day and asked if my cable died on me will they replace it.. They said yes, but I will have to send in the old one first so they can check it before sending me another one.. See how different company do things..crazy.

Can you elaborate more on how it's not working? (Doesn't charge, doesn't hook up to PC, etc?) Sounds silly but the answer to this might change what you get back from others as far as advice.
Does not hookup to PC charges fine.

Then your usb cable is working. Do you have the proper drivers installed on your pc? Is it the usb port on the pc? Do the basic trouble shooting.
Its USB port and i'm sure something its wrong with it

My phone thinks it's charging all the time and will randomly connect to USB storage when it's not hooked to a PC. I was on cm9. J flashed el26 with clockwork, restored nandroid , and flashed a pulled stock kernel with stock recovery. Then used z4root apk to remove root. Took it back to Sprint and they ordered me a replacement white phone (mine was black, purchased on launch day.)

I was in odin attempting to go back to stock and my screen went completely green during the process, left it plugged in hoping it would just keep working, but odin stopped. I am pretty sure my battery died during the process (very dumb of my but I was paying little attention to battery beforehand). I eventually pulled the battery, and now I cannot get any response from my phone at all. Won't charge, won't go back to odin. Any suggestions?
Battery CPR. Pop it in and out and try to get back into download mode. The colored screen is a sign of a bad cable. Get a heavy duty blackberry cable. You can also try with no battery and the usb cable in the computer to get into download mode. It will go in eventually.

I finally got it in Odin battery-less after about 50 unplug/plug back ins. Popped battery in during that process and got a successful reboot and now charging. THANKS a ton for the fast help. You're the man!

I bought 3 of these for different locations. (Work/Home/Laptop bag)
Interestingly enough, it seems to be a combination of cheap cables vs. usb ports. My laptop can Odin first time, every time with the stock Samsung cable. However, my work computer fails 19/20 times unless I use the smaller stockier Blackberry cable I have.
Is your work computer a desktop? And if so are you using the USB ports in the rear directly on the motherboard?

It's a desktop, and I've tried all 6 ports, 4 in the back, 2 in the front. Same results all around. Of course, this computer is a relative beast, but it seems to have usb issues regardless.
On the other hand, my home desktop has no issues as well, I just don't use it as much as my laptop. Develop alone in a dark room? Nah! I develop on the couch watching Big Bang Theory with my wife and son.

Ah! Maybe the current generated by the ports on your work computer is not adequate.

Okay, bear with me, as I got this phone today. I tried to use the USB to copy files and such. When I plugged the phone into the computer, it started opening stuff, and would not respond to touches. What do I do? Should I just get a replacement? I eventually was just able to bear with it by using the option to use the phone from the computer.

Are you using the USB cable that came with the phone? Try using a different cable, or a different USB port on the computer, or even a different computer to see if the problem still occurs.
This sounds like the kind of problem that occurs when you use a bad USB cable.

Along with checking the cables, make SURE you're plugging into a properly powered USB port on your computer/laptop. I have, on occasion had similar issues when using a USB Hub that wasn't properly plugged-in to power so the phone acted up.
Good luck!

If two other phones work properly with all the same variables then I would say the Nitro is the problem.

Hey guys sorry for the noob question but I'm pretty worried here cus last time this happened to me everything went straight to crap.
I plug my phone in to my laptop and turn on mass storage so I can copy files from my computer to my phone but it keeps saying that my phone malfunctioned and that windows does not recognize it.
Is there something I can do to solve this?
Thanks guys.
Edit: running cyanogen rc1.

Try different cords, a different usb port on your computer and make sure drivers are installed
Also wrong forum this should be in q&a
Drivers are installed unless they were changed in the past few months. I only have the cable it came with and trying different ports gave me the same message.

Samsung cables usually aren't the best try buying an HTC or blackberry cable.
Drivers get corrupted very easily. Delete and let them reinstall with a good cable.
