Its been talked about already, you'll need a 4G donor. Read to use the HTC Design 4G.

You don't need a link to figure that out. You needed a donor 3g boost mobile phone in order to flash any cdma phone over to 3g boost mobile. You will obviously need a 4g boost mobile phone in order to flash over any cdma phone over to 4g boost mobile.

Yea I think you would need to buy the HTC EVO Design 4g use the stuff you used to flash you EVO 4g to boost mobile. This is just an idea after you are done with the HTC EVO Design 4g return it.
If u return the phone and somebody buys it and turns it on, won't that scramble the data

Yea if you use the donor and return it you'll be screwed once someone else buys that phone and turns on the 4g unless you find a way to scramble that phones wimax address.... there has to be another way to do this besides using a donor for is wimax mac address..

I wonder if those WiMax MAC addresses are anything like ESN/MeIDs in a sense they are close numerically to other similar phones on the same network. That is the only way I can think it would work but that is highly illegal in this case.
From my understanding
You don't necessarily need a 4g donor or anything just change your mac address to a SPRINT WORKING MAC ADDRESS on your phone.
I remember when I first started doing cable modems in vegas this is how we used to get on the network, we used to clone mac addresses from modems by fishing them and then we flashed them on a modem and voila
I don't think that sprint is provisioning the 4g mac addresses like that but using a friends wimax mac address as your own can work, don't ask me how to do this as I don't know with HTC evo I have it on my e4gt flashed to boost and I did it by ##33284# ##debug# lol dont know if that's right on the numbers.
But yeah just borrow a friends mac address and change it to that turn on your 4g and GG!
4g on boost help
well i still havent figure it out, i bought the evo design from boost so i can have 4g, i dont like the cell phone at all, is too tiny compare to evo 4g or galaxy s2, so i flash it to the galaxy s2 like everybody knows now days and also change the wimax mac address from the design in to the galaxy change the realm and it worked!! I have 3g and 4g working with everything messagesand internet, now i tryed the same with the evo 4g change the wimax mac address and the realm same like i did on the galaxy but it didnt work, so question: anybody knows how to make 4g to work on evo4g with the evodesign 4g as donor?
You need more than just the MAC, also needed is the proper NAI and user name to the MAC address.

Im wondering if anyone has discovered hot to link metropcs flashed Evo to 4G speeds or 3G anything faster than 1x??
The Evo uses Clearwire's WiMax network for 4G service, so I doubt you'll be able to get 4G.
What about 3G?

we'll thats the bad thing about metro PCS
well 3g speeds are governed by your network and 4g speeds wimax.. uses as stated before clear wire service from sprint so basically if metro does not have a 3g network you can't get 3g on your phone and metro only has a 4g LTE network without wimax support your also down in that category i know this because i flashed my old eve to metro for a month and got sick of the damn slow speed so i switched back to sprint thank god i kept my contract with sprint while testing out metro.. but you do get what you pay for ...

Thinking about getting an EVO 4g and wondering if there are any roms, or other ways to get to the Wimax settings so I can change them from Sprint to a local company?
On another note I would be flashing this to work with PagePlus, but I think that is beside the point of my main question.
I'm 99% sure there is no wimax roaming, the radio in the evo is set to only receive sprint's signal.
You can change using ##data# if u have ur MSL, but then again u would only be able to change it if u have an account with Clear (or is it Clearwire?)

Same thing basically. And not like you could switch to roam on verizon, because they use LTE, different technology with frequencies.
Hey,
Just like Teh said,
The evo uses wimax to give us 4g, only the big name networks are getting 4g right now and even that is all going to be running off an lte network because it is going to be fast better range and more reliable, sprint even ditched wimax technology and if you dont have 4g coverage now most likely you will never get wimax coverage, sprint decided to go to the lte as well just for easy of use.
Now while this sucks for us evo users :/ it is good in the long run because since lte is a certain frequency and many cell companies are using it now it should mean for a stronger more reliable 4g network in due time! as long as sprint does things right that is!
I hope I helped if I did please hit the thanks button!

Guys please please read the entire post or atleast read it till you understand.
He wants to know if he can switch to a LOCAL Company. OTHER COMPANIES besides sprint and clear/clearwire offer WiMAX just using different settings to connect to their services.
He doesn't want to roam.
He wants to connect his phone probably using an account with the other company...

So basically there's no way to get the EVO on a wimax network other than Sprint's? Just to clarify...
Evo 4G wimax with local providor
hello
I'm interested into this subject too,
we have a local Wimax company here in Libya and I'd like to edit my Evo 4G's Wimax settings and insert the Local CO.'s data,
I rooted my Evo 4G (thanks to you XDA-Developers)
I could get into the wimax by ##3282# menu
the 3 main things that are needed to change from Sprint (I guess) are :
User name
Password
Wimax certificate
and I don't think that the Hardware's frequencies are editable (but I'm not quite sure)
anyway...the ##3282# menu didn't help and there's no way that I can put my local CO.'s certificate.
do you know what system files that contain the Wimax data and where to find them?
thanks

you can set it up on another network. i checked and in my area there is no winmax so this is no help to me but if you got clearwire service then i think you can do it.?
I've been using an EVO for about a year and a half on Cricket in order to save a few bucks. I'm now back in a better job and ready to go back to a better service provider.
If I sign up for Sprint and get a new device with WiMax 4G (do they still offer those?) is it possible to program my EVO to use the 4G service and use it as a dedicated connection at home and disable it on my new phone (I don't need 4G while out and about honestly)?

The only way to do this would be to use the new device as a hotspot, thus sharing the 4g with the Evo. There is no way of just "transferring" wimax keys from one device to another. However, if you are going to get a new device on Sprint, why not just re-activate the Evo with new service?

Well this EVO has a bad ESN as far as I know, which is why I got it for use on Cricket. However, I tried looking up the ESN on some site that supposedly can check it and it said it was clear.
This phone is starting to age. It needs a new housing and the screen has gotten a few scratches. I wouldn't mind upgrading to a new phone at this point. It looks like Sprint still has WiMax devices so I'm good there. Maybe a Galaxy SII is in my future.
It looks like I can maybe get a new device and then once 4G is activated I can program the mac address of the 4G radio on the new phone into my EVO. I found some instructions that I think will do the trick:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1447615
It seems like people have successfully transferred/shared 4G service between devices before. I think all I need to do is get aG service on a new device and then once that MAC is in Sprint's system change my EVO's 4G mac to that of the new phone. It doesn't look like I need to swap RSA keys between devices. This explains why you can do something like make your EVO 4G work with Clearwire's 4G simply by getting your MAC into their system.
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but I didn't know if anyone knew if you could take a Sprint branded EVO Design 4G phone and put it on Boost Mobile. I wasn't sure if they had some database of what ESN's are Sprint EVO Design's and what are Boost Mobile EVO Design's.. does anyone know? If so, if the Sprint EVO Design has a bad ESN on Sprint, would they activate it?
Yes interested in this as well.
I have an evo 4G and was wondering if you can just call boost when your term is over.
Would love to save the hassle of 'donor' phones and related processes.

I tried to call boost mobile customer care and activate an EVO 4g(not the design 4g) and all 4 times the took the DEC then told me that they are aware that people want to activate sprint phones on the boost network but an not compatible. (which isnt true) I told them that it was the new EVO design 4g and one time i told them it was a sprint branded phone evo.

This is what i did, it was pretty easy. I wanted to know if my company air card 4g mac address would work, so I edited the 4g mac. I was able to connect but when I surfed I was redirected to a page to call a number.
Then I call my friend who has a Epic Touch on Sprint and he gave me his mac, so again I edited the 4g mac...and guess what..."BAMMMM" I was able to connect and surf with no redirect what so ever.
Now it might be a build.prop thing on the aircard mac and that might be why I was not able to surf only connect.
So if you have a friend that has a Epic Touch 4g on sprint and is willing to share the 4g mac then you will have no issues.
Where and how do you edit the MAC address?

Yea but that's still not an E4GT with really cheap 4g service on boost mobile. The obvious way around this problem is to buy an evo design register it with your account then get put that esn and wimax addy on a e4gt and break the evo design and return it for ins, it will be recycled and all will be saved.... but that's not quite kosher(legal) so i don't advise anyone to do that ever.
Or just buy an EVO Design (once they go cheaper on ebay) and do what you said but if you keep the phone it's Kosher. Ultimately the EVO Design becomes you donor phone. I bought a donor phone from ebay to get my ET4G working on Virgin Mobile.

Yea that'd be a good idea, or buy like a broken evo design and just use that... as long as you can still access the phone via pc you should be able to get all the info and a cheaper price on the phone.
Would it have to be a Virgin branded one? Also I am wondering if I would have to actually activate the new EVO Design & then put those settings in my ET4G or just keep my ET4G active & enter the MAC settings from the EVO into my ET4G & get Wimax that way. I just don't want to give up my $25 grandfathered plan!

wow that is a lot of work to get 4g buy a phone then break it..etc.., I would just ask a friend like I did...but what ever floats your boat.
I just wished the 4g coverage was really some thing to take advantage of, as for me I will maybe connect 5 times a year if that when I am in a 4g area. It is nice to have if you are in coverage and can really use it.
Only wished my damn phone would accept my Mac id from my clear wire wifi modem. Any ideas to why it won't even give me the option to set it?

Second of all, I wasn't the one talking about buying a phone & breaking it...
Third of all. can you give me your friends MAC address??

While the rep may have been confused by your question, this raises a question of my own. Would they be able to alter the associated WiMax MAC address on their end if you were using a Boost branded Evo Design as a "donor"?
It wouldn't do anything to alleviate needing a $299 donor phone, but it would open the door to using other HTC 4G phones on Boost with working WiMax.
I can confirm that the Epic Touch will get functional 4G on Boost if an Evo Design is used as a donor, the WiMax MAC address is repaired and the realm is changed to myboostmobile.sprintpcs.com.
I highly doubt boost would change the wimax addy on their end to a non evo wimax addy. They probably could change it on their end but doubt they would, even though half those people you talk to are f*c*ing idiots.
