I successfully rooted my phone using the superoneclick method through the computer. I then followed the video guide and downloaded the system recovery app which allows you to install a custom recovery.. i clicked on the button and asked to accept root access which I allowed.. I then rebooted my phone and went into recovery.. no custom recovery was installed.. so i booted my phone back and phone started up properly.. I then did the process once again and after booting into recovery I again noticed that the factory recovery was still on the phone. I then rebooted the phone again and thats when the constant reboot happened..
I did a wipe from the factory recovery and still not success..
I'm having trouble finding a suitable rom i can rename update.zip and attempt to install a rom that way..
also .. what are my options..
NOTE: This is the recovery installation method I used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875233
NOTE: While in the stock recovery on the bottom of the screen this is what it reads.
E:Can't mount CACHE:recovery/command
E:Can't mount CACHE:recovery/caller
E:Can't mount CACHE:recovery/log
.
One thing: the installation of custom recovery is not expected to erase stock recovery; they can coexist. In order to enter stock recovery you switch on with volume down pressed, in order to enter custom recovery you press volume down while booting and the led turns blue.
In your present situation I think you are forced to flash a full sbf with rsdlite (fro windows) or with sbf_flash (from linux). You can find plenty of them in a sticky thread.
You did a factory wipe after a boot loop...... you have to flash full sbf.

I understand that while holding down the down volume button then pressing the power button will get you into the stock recovery..
but can you break it down in the same simple manner on how to get into the custom rom?
I held the down volume button after pressing the power button and no light turned on..

Yes I did.. didn't know what else to do.. wasn't near a computer was at work..
is an sbf file same as a zip file for rom?
With boot loop, have to test wipe cache/Dalvik cache first from custom recovery. If nok, test apply ZIP. If nok so ok, full flash is needed... You can't solve a boot loop with wipe from factory recovery...
But now, before flash full sbf, do a wipe from factory recovery ! It's better.
And no ! SBF isn't as ZIP ROM !
SBF is applied via bootloader and ZIP is applied via recovery. It's definitively not the same thing ! You have to understand that before customize your Defy !

I see.. I can't seem to get into the custom recovery.. hold down volume button and blue light doesn't turn on and nothing else happens.. i get sent back to factory recovery..
I have done a full wipe from the factory recovery and downloaded a file from here http://and-developers.com/sbf:defy but after running rsdlite and selecting the file.. nothing happens.. the phone still shows its in recovery and nothing happens after pressing start on the program..
Have you entered the bootloader to flash the sbf?!

Make sure you turn on your defy holding the up volume (not down) and power button to enter bootloader. Then you can use usb + rsdlite to flash a new sbf file (not zip rom!)
You have to know what custom recovery you installed. From your post above. You had installed the bootstrap recovery which is an app to enter the recovery. This bootstrap recovery doesn't have the blue light when you booting the phone. Only 2nd-init will have the blue light in booting and pressing volume down goes to boot menu.
1) you don't have to wipe anything for installing bootstrap recovery nor the 2nd-init.
2) if bootstrap recovery is installed, launch it from the app provided.
3) stock recovery don't flash custom update.zip.
4) I would suggest installing 2nd-init as it works even if phone is messed up.

Thanks..I managed to get into the bootloader, I loaded up rsdlite 4.9 and found a sbf file (had to rename it from gz?)
After clicking on start it says
"Failed flash process. phone connected"
Just realized I have to extract the sbf from the gz files ... try when I get home.

I get an error from rsdlite when I use the sbf file for T-Mobile 2.2.1 it won't flash. I used the German and UK sbf files and does work but won't allow me to have internet.

Since you are ready to reset your phone(assuming you have backed up everything), you can try
1.Booting to recovery with phone turned off by the 3 combination keys(lol, read that somewhere off internet) and not just directly.
2.Flashing 4.2.2 again(from sammobile.com) or some other trusted site. And reflashing cwm recovery.
3.Try rooting it ?
4.Try intalling some app like GooManager from playstore to try to enter recovery mode.
May i know which recovery file you flashed? Flashing a more newer/alternative recovery may help.
Did you manage to fix this. Same thing happening to me.. Flashing recovery from Odin does not work.. Factory reset does not work either. Tried to enter recovery mode.. That does not work as well.. In all everything results in normal boot..
Can any one help?

i have observed that u need to do factory reset after flashing a rom.
1. flash stock rom, i would highly recommend using android v4.1.2 because 4.2. of i9082 is little buggy. link to stock rom- http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/GT-I9082/
2. After first boot, do a FACTORY RESET either through settings or using stock 3e recovery, both works
3. flash twrp 2.8.6, via odin, (DO NOT RENAME THE .TAR FILE) link to recovery- https://twrp.me/devices/samsunggalaxygrandduos.html
I have tested this recovery on i9082
if i helped you someway, HIT 'THANKS' button

Download Odin and PhilZ recovery/kernel for i9082. Flash kernel/recovery via Odin (you must be in download mode, use Volume Down + Home Button + Power Button combo for this) and you should have recovery. After this, you can flash any other recovery/rom if you want.
P.S. Don't forget to do Nandroid Backup.

Flashing Recovery again with Odin.
Don't tick the 'Auto reboot' and hit start button.
Wait until it shows pass messages.
Disconnect device from PC.
Remove battery and insert after 5 secs.
Press 'Volume Up+Home+Power'.
Thats it!!

I thought OP knew how to flash via Odin. Thanks for tutorial
I am using Xperia zl c6502
i tried to root my phone
and i did root it but it was not proper but i got root permissions with supersu and rooted with .230 stock firmware
so i already have a flash tool in my pc and all the drivers
and had recovery
i was not happy and found a new rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-zl/development/rom-ultimate-dualxzl-ultra-v1-t2989281
every thing goes well till the end and i rooted via recovery mode
it was written that
FOR UNLOCKED BOOTLOADERS
1. Copy The AROMA ROM v1 Zip To Ur Phone
2. Backup Ur Datas If U Need It
3. Switch Off and Reboot To Recovery
4. Wipe Data Factory Reset ( Recommended )
5. Flash AROMA ROM
6. Simply (Carefully ) Read All Options In Aroma Then Proceed
7. After Installation Do Not Choose Reboot option In Aroma. Un Check it . Click Finish AROMA and Then
8. Flash Any 292 Based Custom Kernel Zip Or Flash .292 based kernel
9. Reboot 3 or 4 Times To Get A Stable Performance
so i flash .292 based kernel via recovery mode which i downloaded before starting to install everything
in the end it installed well and i rebooted my phone to system
but
screen remained black, no recovery now, pc dont recognise phone on connection
i did hard reset from the back button manually
and try to connect to flash tool to flash new rom
in flash tool on pc
after few tries
first my phone was disconnected
then it did.nt recognise my phone and asked which was my phone i tapped xperia zl
then it shows device connected when i check device status via fastboot mode
it shows adb connected with usb debugging
but no recovery, no displayon phone and no root
at the moment
i have these problems
sometimes flashtool can detect my phone in adb mode with usb debug and some times it get connected in fastboot mode
but i was not able to flash my previous rom via that flash tool
neither i was able to go in recovery nor able to boot my phone
it just a black screen
and after hard reset it shows orange light when i plug it in for charging but screen is black
what should i do please help.
If can connect via flashtool... then try flashing a stock kernel... and see if it boots... bt the best thing in my opinion is to download a stock firmware and flash that via flashtool...
thanks
as i was trying to connect via flashtool now on win xp my phone was detected by system and i installed flashtool in win xp and drivers. then i was able to flash the stock rom by flashtool.
now my phone booted again am happy..
but my phone was not on the stock rom as it was before
it appears it rooted on the aroma i think but am confused what to do next
should i reinstall the aroma again fresh via recovery?
Try to flash a different rom this time and check whether its working or not... if it does then mayb redownload your previous rom again n try that... again...
1st I want to tell the situation
.....I WAS USING STOCK ROM [MIUI 6] AND USING STOCK RECOVERY
AFTER READING A FORUM TO ROOT MIUI 6 BETA,
I INSTALLED THE SUPERSU AND ITS ICON WAS THERE ON HOMESCREEN. WHEN I OPEN IT THE POPUP SAYS THAT HOW YOU WANT TO INSTALL THE SCRIPT
I CHOOSEN TWRP BUT I WAS ON STOCK RECOVERY NOW IT REBOOTED AND TRY TO ENTER THE RECOVERY MODE [STOCK]
IT DOES NOT ENTER AND REBOOTED AND AGAING REBOOTED.............:crying:
Its just a case of bootloop. Try this tut
if you can boot into recovery when off (just press power+ vol up at the same time)
Wipe cache
Wipe dalvik cache
Wipe data
thanks but
I am on stock ROM and unable to do it even I am ubable to boot in recovery because it is just rebooting and rebooting
Maybe you pressed it wrong.
Powerbutton+Volume up then release power button after mi.com logo shows but still holding volume up until it goes to recovery
flash fastboot rom using pc
Use miflash to flash fastboot rom.you can find fastboot roms of miuiv6 on xiaomi official website.
I am running android 4.2.2 on my Samsung Galaxy Grand Duo
I have recently rooted my phone with superSU
And I am trying to install an unofficial version of lollipop 5.1.1
When I press Volume Up + Home + Power to get into CWM it says "Unknown Command" and takes me to the default recovery menu.
I can get into CWM by putting my phone in download mode and flashing it with ODIN temponarly.
And when i go to wipe data on CWM, it doesn't say yes anywhere, it just shows 5 no's
I have tried scrolling up and down with the volume keys but had no luck.
What im looking for is just how do i get the no's to say yes
Can anyone please help me quickly?
I have rooted many phones but never worked with CWM or custom ROMS
Thanks
-Niko
Flash custom recovery using odin and when the phone is done and restarts IMMEDIATELY press vol up+home to enter recovery. Otherwise custom recovery wont be installed
use TWRP, way better than CWM.
