Dialer Storage - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I see that I am not the only person with this problem, but I have not found any solution for it.
Despite everything I do, I still continue to get a phone storage space is getting low. I have deleted all of my text messages, and several applications. When I use the disk usage program, it always points towards dialer storage using 20 + MB. The options to clear the cache and clear the data are greyed out for me so I can't do anything like that. I am using MikG ROM. Any suggestions?

Internet browser app problem!... help.

Hey.
I dont know whats gone wrong with my internet browser app.
Its growing in size recently. Normally it was just under a mb, really small, and the cache would grow to between 4mb & 7mb and i would just clear the cache, then its back to a few kb.
But over the last day or 2 its not getting a cache anymore, its at 0kb, but the app itself has grown from just a few kb's to 22mb!
And theres no option in the manage aplicatikns settings to clear the data?
It just gets bigger data size every time i use the internet.
Im getting these numbers on the app data
Internet (version 7).... it used to also say (update 1) here but it doesnt anymore for some reason.
Cache 0.0mb
Source 0.0mb
Data 22.7mb
Please help as my phone keeps flashing up with "running low on space" all the time now and i cant seem to clear the app data.

It might be your bookmarks...they take up internal storage space, sadly.

yeah if it's data it's referring to settings, bookmarks, any user data pretty much
if it's really so bad then backup your bookmarks and internet settings and go to applications -> manage applications -> browser and click clear data
Nah, it wasnt the bookmarks, i only have a few and havent added any for a while.... good news is.. Androids so clever it just fixed its self?, its magicallu back to 1mb and i did nothing, and its using the cache again aswel.

Low on Space Notification - WTF?

Looking for ideas here. I've been getting a low on space notification in my Stock 2.2 for a couple days now. It states that the application data space is low.
What space is it referring? I've got 6.5 GB free on the internal and 4.5 GB free on the external drives. Is there another location that is partitioned off in the internal memory?
Any ideas of what I might be able to do to clear up the notification?
Hmmm... I just found a thread that mentions that it has nothing to do with the storage size but how much is in /data. They recommended clearing the dalvik cache, but I actually did that yesterday.
Installed Cache Cleaner (needs root & Busy Box).
We'll see how it goes...
Go through management for each app... I bet you find one with 99mb of cache.. Clear that app's cache

I appear to be ok now. The next time that pops up I'll give that strategy a whirl.
Thanks!
Plenty of people including me who get the warning and no large cache, social apps, email, messages, Google Earth, Skyfire or any of the other suspects. Android has a big a55 bug up its butt and was in 2.1 and now 2.2.

Nice tip - thanks, I'd not thought of that.
I still get the error and have no large cache built up on any app, or a total of cache for all apps. I have ZERO of the usual issues: Google Earth, social apps, messages, large emails- none.
I have had the follwing roms and always clear data and caches before installing:
2.1 stock = Low on space
2.2 Skyraider = Low on space
2.2 Stock = Low on space
2.2 without bloatware = Low on space
I have about 380mb of storage out of 748mb I can not use. Ironically, I used to be able to go to about 250mb free, but it creeped into less space now.
It seems almost like the Android OS still thinks some apps using apps2sd still reside in device memory. The device shows the space is free, but I wonder if the OS "thinks" it is not free. Only thing that makes sense to me- displacement.

It's a bug. Interestingly I get the same issue at around 380MB too. Oh well.
The only time I see the warning is when I install the beta of Firefox. If I uninstall it, the message goes away. Firefox is a resource HOG!
Woke up this morning to this lovely issue. Going to try clearing the cache... then removing firefox.
EDIT: Clearing the cache seems to have worked.
Donation? lol.
I had this pop up just a few hours ago. I cleared all my cache's, and even moved a bunch of apps to sd. Then I happened to have my phone turned to landscape and a I saw. 1. go to mail an.....(off the edge of screen) ??? So I followed the link to the (i guess) memory manager>gmail>cleared the data. The message went away. I sure hope I remember that one later on. I guess the notification tells you more we just can't see it since it goes off the edge into lala land.
So it must be the newest gmail app. anytime I open it up and re load my account the warning comes up. Anyone got a link to the old gmail apk?
Based on the fact that the population having the issue seems to correlate in magnitude as people accumulate apps, I think it it pretty rock solid that the Incredible has a design bug in regards to actual free phone memory. After trying four roms and starting clean with them (Including 2.1 and 2.2 stock roms), my conclusion is this device does not really have "748"mb free, but a few hundred less.
There are two stages to the problem (one with a temporary fix)
1. Cache build ups causes the warning
2. Absolute space is filled with apps and no more can be installed. This appears to hit most people anywhere from 350mb to 250mb free.
This is a big a55 bug and may be due to the allocation of flash from the 8gb. Droid X does not have the problem, but none of the 8gb internal flash was allocated (it is all phone memory).
Catch with the X is most 3D games now force most data to sd card with no option to leave in the internal flash. Ironic the X has too much storage and wastes space that media could use and the Inc has about the right amount but does not work correctly.
Funny and sad. People that say they have not had the problem probably have not hit the invisible ceiling that is a LOT less than 748mb.
Well the problem for me was my email. I cleared all the data in it and the notice goes away. Re sync it and the notice pops up again. So I cleared the data. Went back into my gmail. Started the sync, then right away went out to setting> applications> google> stopped the sync. When I went back into gmail it had what it started to download listed and I was then able to get into settings. I went into Menu > More> settings> labels then I set the sync to only 1 day at a time. Now my phone seems happy and no low space warning. Hope it lasts.
Most having the problem do not have large mail or app caches. That is a symptom to the actual problem of fake space: the Inc does not really have 748mb free.
Solution has been found!!!

Idk if Im right but can this be cause to if you have to many sms/mms....

[Q] Thousands of texts wipe

Got a messaging (sms) thread containing close to 12,000 texts. Need to delete them all, but its impossible with any application as they all freeze. I've tried everything.
Is it possible to wipe only my sms messages (don't want to wipe my whole phone)? I don't mind wiping app data, so I didn't know if wiping dalvik-cache might do it?
If anyone knows if this is possible, can you please reply, my phone is becoming increasingly very slow.
EDIT: Wiped Dialler storage using good ol' Titanium Backup. Quick and easy, and used the free version. Hope that helps anyone, cheers for replies
Have you tried wiping the data of "messages" system app?
Don't know if it will work, though.
In the standard messaging app, press Menu and then click Delete all Threads.
It will take a while given the amount of texts you have.
Try to delete the thread and leave ur phone over one night. Next morning should be completed.

[Q] Delete old messages option in stock messaging app

Ok so to avoid the long delete time and memory problems I had my old phone (DInc1) set to delete old messages with a cap at 200. This option can be found in the stock messaging app under general settings then storage settings.
Since I got the Inc2, this option doesnt work, I've tried rebooting, turning the option on/off, etc. no luck.
Anyone have any ideas on why this wont work? Its set to automatically delete messages past 200 but I have convos that are up to 800+.

Remove the account and add it back?
Clear cache and data for Gmail app. I've had this happen a few times.

I've had this happen before as well, and sometimes I think it might be something on Google server side, like it can take longer than usual for them to send an acknowledgement of reception? Idk.

Force Close the app and reopening it also does the trick if you do not feel like clearing cache and the like. It will work for a few and be fine then go right back to doing it.
Yeah, I've gotten this on pretty much every Android device I've owned. Pretty common problem and I wish Google would fix it. I just force close, clear cache..then resend.
will this happen with the other email app that came with this phone?
And how do you clear the emails cache?

settings/apps/find Gmail click on it and you can clear cache from there
I've had this happen a couple times before too. The first time, I didn't even know about it until my sister mentioned she never got a reply for so and so email even though I clearly remembered replying to it a week before that. So I went into the app and looked at my outbox and there was about 7 or 8 emails stuck in there that couldn't be set.
Made me a bit mad to say the least. And a year later, we are still having this issue.

I only ever had that problem with stuck outbox when I had a battery saver program "juice defender" running. Works perfectly ever since I stopped using and uninstalled the battery saver app. I read in another thread that those apps do more harm than good.
+1 to clear cache and data
I have had this happen, in over a thousand or so sent emails, four times, it was the same day, and only on 3g trying to send photos as attachments for work.
This has never happened when on wifi. I want to clarify that I use both gmail and the samsung included email app (I like it better for multiple gmail account usage for a few reasons I wont go into here). The samsung app, though it takes longer to load emails (even on wifi) I just like the feel of it better. Gmail sending is usually instantaneous, both apps have been super stable for me, I have adjusted their settings to run to my ideals, which includes hourly pings.

Hey, can someone shed some light as to why Clear Cache button is greyed out in the Gmail application? All I have is Force close and Uninstall updates. Everything else is unavailable.
Thanks in advance.
I have had this problem recenlty, I had to remove my account from the phone and add it again. It even stopped downloading new emails....smh
I think it's google though not the phones
