ics upgrade question - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i have a rooted and locked xperia arc that is supercharged and my sd card is linked using link2sd.
if i upgrade to ics , will i have to root, supercharge and relink it to link2sd again since i have reflash .42 rom prior to update?

Quick question: Why would you need to flash the .42 before flashing the latest ICS build?

[Q] CWM Recovery OR xRecovery??

Thx
theres someone who made a thread at arc development called SE EXTREME TWEAKER that can install cwm recovery on locked bootloaders
xRecovery in only for 2010 Xperias

There's a cwm for xperia arc, it'll let you flash various mods, but to flash custom roms via cwm you'll need an unlocked bootloader.
can you give me link.
Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19339750

Unlock bootloader for new kernel...

I've a r800i with gb 2.3.4, root permission, cwm recovery and any tweaks (bravia engine supercharger v6)
I want to unlock bootloader and install doomlord v14 kernel, (i know it's capable whit my stock rom) because i want overclock my Xperia, and i need the "2 way record patch".
So, it's possible? If i unlock bootloader and change kernel i lost my data/apps/settings/files/contacts?
Sorry for my English... I'm italian...

No, unless you wipe/factory reset your phone.
So, after unlocking bootloader i must follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...oMKernel [Rel:v14][Dt:01/MAY][FW:.42/.58/.62]
when i changed the kernel, is necessary wipe data/do factory reset? I can wipe only cache and davlik, right?

Unfortunately i have not solved!
I delete nAa_cwm folder from my sd card and tried to reboot in recovery mode by pressing volume down at boot... I still have a old recovery!
... So confused...

[Q] How to backtrack and be ready for 4.0.4 Arc update?

Hello.
I have an Arc LT15a, rooted, locked bootloader, cwm. I flashed the official 4.0.3 for Arc S using FlashTool, and my Model number reads as Arc S LT18i.
Since 4.0.4 is coming out for Arc, I would like to use that version when it is released.
1. Do I have to go back to GB (.42) in order to get the 4.0.4 Arc update?
2. Can I do this using a GB cwm recovery (I prefer this method)?
3. Can I do this using a GB .ftf and FlashTool?
4. Will baseband, kernel, Model number be back to default?
Thanks!!
Just download the ftf and flash ia flashtool!

Do you know if my old GB CWM backup will work the same as flashing some ftf?
Sure it will work good, but flash the kernel separately and also baseband if required!
Dont forget to format data, wipe cache partition n dalvik before restoring!

I am posting to update anyone wondering the same thing.
I can confirm what gire.prasad said. GB CWM recovery works. But baseband 70 (from ICS) stays and there are network errors. Flashing baseband 56 separately should work.
However, I did not flash any kernel because my bootloader is locked?
I knew it would work coz I did the same thing and using GB lol ..
Yeah baseband issues might occur and are rare..
But how did you restore without flashing GB kernel?
It shouldn't work nah?
I am not sure why it worked. When going to ICS with flashtool and going back to GB with CWM, I never did anything explicitly with kernels...
I thought you can't change kernel with a locked bootloader?
Yeah you cant change kernels on locked bootloader..
Hmm puzzled!!!
Anyway, you got the thing working and thats good!

[Q] Can the stock 4.0.4 be rooted?

I'd like to know if you can root the stock 4.0.4
wrong section
well this is the wrong section but still
4.0.4 can be rooted in 2 ways.
1) flash 4.0.4 (.431) on your phone and then flash the stock kernel of the firmware 4.0.3 (.562) and then use doomlord toolkit to root it
note: you can then flash the original stock kernel of the firmware .431
2)download ready to root .ftf and then flash using flashtool and then root ie(which is nothing but the firmware if .431 but the kernel of.562)
take help from these
ready to root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1683957:fingers-crossed:
3. If you have an unlocked bootloader just boot a custom kernel and install root manually or use the Xperia installer.

thnks for completing my post with the third step it didnt occur to me.
:good:
Yes it can, I flashed a stock .431 ftf and used DoomLords root kit.
I had stock 4.0.3 (forget the number) on my phone and received an OTA update to 4.0.4 (4.1.B.0.431) two nights ago. I still have root after applying the update.

[Q] how to create ftf of the modified OS?

Hey guys is there a way to create an ftf file of the OS in my phone ? I want to make the ftf of the xperia ultimate hd with all the mods that i've flashed in it...!! i have googled my question but all i get is how to make an ftf of the stock firmware using SUS (Sony Update Service)
Phone: Xperia Arc S (Lt18i)
No you cannot because ftfs can only be made by Sony for stock firmware.

tangosierra_ is correct.
The closest thing you could do is to create a full system backup using CWM and keep a copy of it somewhere else in addition to the SD Card just in case. It worked fine for me.
