[Q] Start from scratch help due to stupidity! - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Can't title it any better. I was running Mj's BLEND ICS, and have been having problems with reboots, etc. So I saw a new version out and wanted to try that. I rebooted and noticed CWM was gone, and it looked like a stock recovery.
So I was reading up a bit and moved over the new version to the SD, then while under that recovery, I made a HUGE mistake and hit the power (forgetting that's [enter]) and whatever it was on it formatted data/system and cache so the phone is now dead (luckily not bricked).
On boot it sits at the Samsung title but that's it. I DO have access to both recovery (which is NOT cwm) but also have access to ODIN (huge + IMO).
So, I had the following;
BaseBand: 57 : 10.10 5.FD19
Kernel: 3.0.15-SPH=D710.FD26-XL467198
So naturally my question is what to do next? Back in my evo day's I ran CW7 and was very happy, I see C9 is out but the docs I saw said coming from GB, where I HAD ICS).
So the million dollar question, how do I proceed? Since I have access to ODIN, I would like to either;
a) restore a brand new stock rooted ICS for the g2 (note I am on sprint)
b) move back to either blend, or even more like to try c9.
Thanks as always to the group for all read/replies, out of all my posts/fun, this was my first facepalm!

Try miui I here it has wimax

Done, and worked like a charm. What is the best way to keep current with full version's of stock ROM's, modem's, etc. I see threads pop up, I know the letters refer to months, etc. but is there a standard place people look or subscribe?

Waiting on part 2. Past few ROM's have had their bugs, I do want to get CWM for backup purposes, but will do in a few.
Thanks again.

Didn't think so, I would equate it to an ok linux boot partition but the other partitions were wiped (which is why once I could get into ODIN I knew I would be ok, just wanted to make sure I had the correct stock ROM)

[HOW TO] Get a Completely Stock Kernel + Root!

I just confirmed what leatherneck6017 discovered in Bubby's stock kernel thread.
Basically, there's a simple (although sort of drawn out) process for getting yourself both a stock kernel, and root access. Here's the steps I followed:
First, I flashed the stock kernel linked on the first page of the thread above. Coming from Zedomax, this removed root, and brought me back to stock (Albeit with SU still installed)
Second, I followed Bubby's instructions in This thread to install Clockwork Mod, and then flash the root .zip in CWM.
Third, I reflashed the same stock kernel I flashed in step one.
Voila, I now have a stock kernel--and root!
All thanks to Bubby for his hard (and amazingly fast) work on this device.
I don't know if anyone else is even interested in doing this, but I thought I'd put it out there, since what I've wanted since Day 1 is a stock kernel + root and now, in a roundabout way, I've got it! Much thanks to ACS, and I hope this helps someone.
Hell yea, thanks man!
This is exactly what I have been looking for also.. DL'ing the files now will be flashing momentarily...

Boo Ya! Worked like a charm, many thankx good sir! Root is back, SetCPU is locked at 1200, and now I'll be watching for LOS and checking to see if my BlueTooth connection is back to normal... although at this pace there will be something shiny and new to flash by noon HaHa!
Worked as posted!

amen holay lu this is all i wanted dont need no fancy kernel thanks yall!!!
I was from Zedomax V3, just flashed stock kernel, still have root and native recovery
Damn my luck! It's only been 30 mins running stock+ root and BAM.. signal loss... sigh.. going back to virgin stock, I never did get LOS for the 6 days I ran unrooted. Balls!
actually you dont have to do the 3 steps just flash overclocked kernel and then reflash stock kernel through odin and the root will stay with stock kernel.
is there any way to working rom manager? when i did back up through rom manager it stuck at traingle.when i tried to flash clockwork mod from rom manager it shows three phones i1900mtd , i1900 and samsung galaxy 2.
I did this process and now have stock kernel plus root. Is it not possible to have stock kernel, root, AND clockwork mod... ?

Not until cwm is added to stock kernel, or the root .zip, because they're both in the same spot and after you add root you lose cwm, at least I did..
So if I wasnt rooted to begin with do I A. Root with zedo' method then follow steps in the OP or B. Start with step 2 somehow? Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Lost Rogue Recovery, still have root

I'm running VeNuM ICE 3.1.1 with FC22 Modem and Kernel. Apparently I used stock on the kernel during my last flash and lost my recovery. What's the easiest way to get it back since I'm already rooted and the Android System Recovery <3e> doesn't give me the option to flash anything?
Odin or mobile odin.

Cool, that's what I was thinking but i wasn't sure. Thanks!
I use mobile odin, it's easy. Download kernel tar to phone. In mobile odin press kernel, find the tar and hit go. It reboots the phone for you

I am a dummy and am in somewhat the same situation. I flashed aokp build 28 ics rom, right in the beginning of the thread it says 'dont flash from stock ics recovery' I had team rouge on ics rom, so I thought I was good. Now I just go to android system recovery.
Will the odin thing work for me too, or will I mess it up further. from what I have read, odin seems like what I am supposed to do.
sorry if I wasnt supposed to ask in this thread, but at least it shows I am searching!

i am rooted. I want to flash a different rom altogether, mainly because I don't know if a kernel I can flash that will let me boot into rouge or cwm.
the aokp that I flashed came with fc15 kernel and I wanted to flash to fc22 and that is when I realized I was only able to boot into android system recovery.

From what I've heard is not to mess with a Recovery while on ICS due to their being bricks... I'd suggest using the ODIN one click to EL29, then use autoroot package with option C, to install Rogue recovery and flash to a newer ICS ROM.

What id suggest is downloading chris41gs stock el26 recovery and use mobile odin to flash it. Then upon reboot go into recovery and flash whatever u want next. Then if u want to switch roms again or update, follow the same procedure.
thanks Febby & rsalinas1, I used sfhubs one click odin to stock, then installed FC24 with cwm and I am good to go. good (cheap) learning experience for me.

[Q] Installed Sonic R6, can I Odin to stock?

I successfully followed the directions for using the no-flash-counter-increment stock+root, then installed clockworkmod recovery with adb dd, then installed Sonic R6. If I wanted to go back to stock+root, could I just Odin the no-flash-counter-increment stock+root?
This procedure worked great on my old Vibrant, but on the Vibrant, the Odin back to stock cleared the user partitions, but when I did the Odin stock+root on the S3, it rebooted with all of my settings/apps/etc. intact.
To be safe, I'm intending to reboot to recovery, wipe data/cache/dalvik, then reboot to download mode and Odin again. Is this a sound plan? (Sorry for the newbie question, but the Odin differences between the Vibrant and the S3 make me nervous.)
it came back with the settings and apps because you have to wipe before going back to stock, and if you are going back to stock, depending on what rom you are using, you will have to root again.
With the custom recovery you can flash away without increasing the counter.

[Q] How to unroot on Mac - soft bricked

I could really use the help of an expert out there. I tried to unroot my Epic 4g Touch because of horrible battery life using what are clearly some outdated directions. Now it is "soft-bricked" it just hangs on the yellow triangle screen. I flashed the ZedoMax v3 kernel which I assume is the problem. I believe I was running 4.04 prior to that, I had just done the Sprint OTA update a few days ago.
Could some please provide STEP-BY-STEP directions on how to get my phone working again? Again, I am on a Mac (and do not have access to a PC where I could do this) and I am very much a beginner so assume I know nothing. I have seen previous posts that are for PCs and involved .exe files, these are not an option for me. I have heimdall installed on my Mac, that's about it. Thank you in advance to anyone that helps.
I don't know of a Mac work around this, may I suggest boot camping windows. For your phone you need to watch flashing kernel on ICS ROM. Some kernels only work on some type of ROMs or models. For the freezing part you need a fresh Odin 26/29 or any other model.
I hope someone give you a Mac setup guild. Good luck

It hangs because you flashed a gingerbread kernel to your ics rom. Just download agats 6.7 kernel.zip put it on your sdcard and flash it. Reboot your phone. I have flashed from that kernel to ics before.and you don't need to flash a rom anyways so you are good. Once you have agats kernel you can flash anything except jb. Thats if you wanted a different rom. If your phone is still rooted though its best to just use mobile odin to flash the el26 kernel repacked with cwm by chris41g.from there you can flash whatever you want. You can also mobile odin a one click to go back to stock if you wish. You don't need to flash anything if you don't want to though. If all you wanted was to unroot supersu (in the playstore)can do that.

Where do I download this "agats 6.7 kernel.zip" file? I googled it but cant find it. And also, could you just break that down into slightly more step-by-step? Do i flash this via heimdall? I'm sorry but I super new to these things (I just wanted to fix the horrible battery life after Sprint's OTA updates), everyone will get a huge thanks if I can get this fixed.
Go to the original development of this section. Locate agats sourcekernel 6.7. Download it to your computer. On your phone push and hold power button and volume up button until recovery menu pops up. Use the volme key to highlight mounts and storage. Push home button. At the bottom it should say mount usb storage. Highlight it then push home. On your mac it should come up with another drive. Click and open it. Drop the kernel into the folder. Once done on your phone click unmount usb storage. Now highlight the go back menu item. If its not there then just push the back button. Now at the main menu select install zip from sdcard. I believe its going to be on the internal storage. Highlight it then click home. It will ask are you sure. Click yes. Now when its done go back to mainmenu. From there click reboot system. If you have anymore questions let me know. If its not how I described let me know what you do see. Also instead of home button as enter it might be the power button.

WOOHOO! Big thanks, got my phone back. I actually just flashed directly using heimdall from my computer because I didn't see that sdcard option when I was in recovery mode. You have been super helpful and I will definitely click thanks.
Now this may be pushing my luck but back to my original issue... the horrible battery life. Is it worth it for me to put a custom ROM on? WIll that help battery life? If so, what is the easiest way to do this (on a mac) without screwing up my phone and what ROM would you suggest. Thanks again!!!
Well if you have agast recovery you could just flash a rom from there. Or use mobile odin pro from the market to flash the safe el26 kernel and flash from that. I am using venom ice odexed found inside the m'ics thread. Absolutely awesome battery. If you don't have it get titanium backup. Backup all your user apps. Then either mobile odin el26 or go straight to agats recovery and go to mounts and storage. From there click format system. Then format data. Then back out and go to install from zip. Find that tom and click it. It will ask are you sure click yes. Done. Now just go to the main menu and reboot.

Ok, I'm definitely interested in installing a new ROM and you're instructions are helpful, but I'm still a little confused about some things. So where I am right now is it with the agats kernel installed that you directed to me earlier. Is the mobile odin necessary (it costs $5...) If not, where do I find the files you are referring to? And how do I get them on my phone?
What about Cyanogen Mod? I've heard that's very good, should I install that?
You can get the kernel from here http://chris41g.devphone.org/index.php?dir=EpicTouch/Stock+Repack/EL26/ its the stock cwm.tar.md5.
You can get mobile odin lite from here for free http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347899 click on the late version attached to the first post. You do not need paid.

Cyanogenmod is good. In original development section look for cm9 beta1 then download it. Along with gapps ics 4/29/2012 . You will use mobile odin to flash the stockcwm. Tar kernel. Then you will be rebooted. It will get stuck at the screen with the triangle again. Don't worry. Its supposed to. Go into recovery by pushing volume up and power and holding. Then go to mounts and storage. Format system and data only. Go back to main menu. Go to install from sdcard. Click on the one its downloaded to. Flash cm9 then gapps. Go to main menu and reboot system

Do you have recovery loaded? If you just download the ROM you want on to your SDcard. Then reboot to recovery and install from SDcard. Find your ROM and install.

If you're looking for absolute stock, with no add ons or anything, this is my suggestion http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1169004 You won't have your data unless you backed it up with like a third party app (my app of choice for that is MyBackup Root for apps & settings and such, SMS Backup and Restore for messages)

I have the same issue and your suggestion didn't help.
Tried several times, both deodexed version and the original, but neither worked. Tried flashing the SuperWipeG2+ext4 before installing stock, after installing stock (flashing stock, SuperWipe, stock again) on both normal and deodexed versions. Still the phone loads up the HTC logo+vibrate, takes a few seconds, makes a small vibration again and nothing happens.
All other custom ROM's that I've tried work. I've tried CyanKat, CM11, CM7.2, Vision G-lite 2.0.0.
I'm trying to go back to stock, because all custom ROM's have a huge battery drainage issue that I am unable to resolve (but lets keep that to another thread). The stock ROM did not have the issue.
Stock ROM is no formatted to ext4, but besides this are you trying to go back to stock but keep custom recovery and secure flags off or completely return to stock as the method to do so will differ
Either way you should find what you need here
