I'm running VeNuM ICE 3.1.1 with FC22 Modem and Kernel. Apparently I used stock on the kernel during my last flash and lost my recovery. What's the easiest way to get it back since I'm already rooted and the Android System Recovery <3e> doesn't give me the option to flash anything?
Odin or mobile odin.

Cool, that's what I was thinking but i wasn't sure. Thanks!
I use mobile odin, it's easy. Download kernel tar to phone. In mobile odin press kernel, find the tar and hit go. It reboots the phone for you

I am a dummy and am in somewhat the same situation. I flashed aokp build 28 ics rom, right in the beginning of the thread it says 'dont flash from stock ics recovery' I had team rouge on ics rom, so I thought I was good. Now I just go to android system recovery.
Will the odin thing work for me too, or will I mess it up further. from what I have read, odin seems like what I am supposed to do.
sorry if I wasnt supposed to ask in this thread, but at least it shows I am searching!

i am rooted. I want to flash a different rom altogether, mainly because I don't know if a kernel I can flash that will let me boot into rouge or cwm.
the aokp that I flashed came with fc15 kernel and I wanted to flash to fc22 and that is when I realized I was only able to boot into android system recovery.

From what I've heard is not to mess with a Recovery while on ICS due to their being bricks... I'd suggest using the ODIN one click to EL29, then use autoroot package with option C, to install Rogue recovery and flash to a newer ICS ROM.

What id suggest is downloading chris41gs stock el26 recovery and use mobile odin to flash it. Then upon reboot go into recovery and flash whatever u want next. Then if u want to switch roms again or update, follow the same procedure.
thanks Febby & rsalinas1, I used sfhubs one click odin to stock, then installed FC24 with cwm and I am good to go. good (cheap) learning experience for me.

I'm not sure how it happened but I lost CWM Touch Recovery. This was included with the install of the Hitman KErnal. Is there any way to get it back without odin?
ok so when I try to go into recovery it it will show clokworkmod 5.8.1.5 but then it will just jump straight and reboot the phone???
You can try flashing it with rom manager but I don't know if it will stick.

So when you go into recovery, it goes into boot without you doing anything?
Couple things.
1. Do NOT use rom manager with the SGSII e4gTouch. The kernel is tied to the recovery and NOT stand alone. You're begging for a brick if you do this using rom manager.
2. If you read the HITMAN thread, you'll see most of the folks are having the same issue. flash gunslinger or stock kernel with older CWM and you'll be back to normal. Prob. need to use ODIN.
3. For the OP, you posted the same issue in that thread where appropriate, was it really needed to do another thread with the same thing?
The new touch recovery seems to be nothing but problems. I flashed it with hitman and didn't like it so I went back to rogue recovery.

still new at this but have you tried the E4gTautoroot and flash the el29 stock kernel+cwm and then use cwm to reflash the Hitman kernel? You can use it as an alternative to flash an older cwm recovery and then update again

1. I didn't know that.
2. I tried to flash using odin but it kept saying something about md5 hash invalid, or something like that. Was not able to flash unless I was doing it wrong.
3. I think posted this thread before I saw other people having the issue in the other thread
do this:
1)go and search for the rogue stock rooted el29 recovery and download the zip
2) unzip it and with the zimage (forget about the other file)
3)do it into a tar file(should be as easy as doing a zip with winrar or winzip)
4) go to odin and use this file in the pda area and start it
this should solve it...worked for me

Im running CM9 right now and I flashed caulk's new FC22 kernel without knowing that it doesntt boot right! I know, rookie mistake. Im now trying to go back to my FC18 repack kernel because it has worked great for me, but whenever I try and flash something in this modified stock recovery, it gives me a little android guy laying down with his stomach open and a big red triangle with an exclamation point above him. Anyone have any ideas how I can flash zips with this recovery? Perhaps the permissions are wrong on the zip but I dont know how to fix it, and I need to be able to flash it from recovery because im not around a computer that I can Odin with
Any help would be appreciated, id like to be able to use my phone in the next 2 days before I get back to my home computer! Thanks

I am pretty sure it has been stated over and over to NEVER flash anything with ICS recovery because it is not stable enough yet. You need to Odin back to a gingerbread recovery then flash.

Any ics recovery is a risk, especially for cm9. Just Odin back to el26 cmw repack, boot right into recovery, and then flash the right ics kernel for cm9.

My mistake. I have never tried CM9. I have flashed to and from GB on both Blend and Darkstar ROMS with no issue. I have heard that CM9 has issues with that and I must have overlooked that in op's post. Flash back to EL26 then flash to different rom.

I flashed this rom and kept my EL29 kernel. Does that mean in order to get this Rom and get my CWM recovery back I have to reset my phone to stock and start all over again with the EL26? Also, is the swype keyboard in the rapps, and how do i get the face unlock to work?
When you flashed Frankenstein rom, your kernel changed to the FE21 kernel included with the rom so not sure what you mean by you kept el29 kernel since that's not compatible with ICS. The reason you have stock android recovery now is because of all the bricking issues performing certain functions in custom ICS recovery so devs are leaving out custom recovery from their roms. So yes, when you want to change roms, backup, etc., you must go back to the el26 cwm kernel first and flash, backup, etc. from there. Not sure about your last two questions since I'm not using that rom. Let me know if you need anything else.

Not to sure what you mean by that. If you're saying what I think you're saying, yes you must use el26 cwm kernel whenever flashing anything ICS related or backing up or restoring. Using anything else and you risk bricking your phone.

Slick_rick is correct, as far as Swype i just sign up for the Swype beta from you phone browser to get a download for it, that way i always have it to restore with titanium so i can get Swype on any rom. There's also some Swype keyboards floating around in the app section but i haven't tried them. They should work though.

Wow... I needed this thread. I just recently went through what I thought were all the instructions to flash this rom. I had previously used the PD Odin executable routine to upgrade from Gingerbread to ICS. I saw the reviews on this rom and really liked what I saw. I used Odin 1.85 to set up CWM-El26 so I could flash this ROM. I got everything working ( I do get that yellow triangle on reboots) but I did notice the CWMod Recovery does not stay on the phone. It reverts back to the basic ICS Recovery (where I GUESS you cannot flash zip files). Now all this said... After flashing this ROM, I am still on FE16. Is there something else I am missing.
I got into rooting when I had my Dinosaur Moment, and now I have that itch again. Thanks again for all your help!

Swype is in the removed apps. You have to Unknown Sources checked under device administration. You can mount your phone, add the swype.apk file to the phone, and install it using the astro file manager. I still go back and forth between swype and the stock ICS keyboard. Word prediction seems to work better in the stock.

Oh well your cwm recovery disappeared because it wasnt packed into the kernel that came with the rom you flashed. And you can get rid of the yellow triangle using a USB jig or an app called triangle away. Just Google search something like "triangle away apk+chainfire+xda" and you should be able to find it.

Hey... I hit the thank button but I got the triangle away and it worked like a charm! Thanks again. Maybe they can get the CWM 5.0.2.7 to stay packaged in the ROM setups in the future!
so i tried to redo this flash with the el26 kernel. but then my phone started acting crazy, telling me that the calendar storage stopped working. finally after putting frankenstein back on my phone, it stopped coming up. the only problem im experiencing now is that i cant download pics in my text messaging. but i can use my 3g, 4g, and wifi for everything else. I dunno if this is because im in PR or because i messed something up. Please give me some feedback if you know anything
You started up with el26? That will never work with this rom. You need an ics kernel.

i know. but when you flash the rom it changes to ics. im saying, initially i started with the el29. QBkind77 advises to flash it after having the el26 installed, but i was too hasty.
Hmmh...i only ever do el26 never el29. I'm not sure what happened then. You are correct if you flashed the ROM it is ics. It must have been a bad flash or a bad download as well, sorry.

I'm on Blu Kuban and I am on EL29 QB King 77 said I don't really need to switch Modems?? Is that corret? One XDA member said he uses FE 22 with out issue. I am using the ICS Blu Cuban rom.
Can't title it any better. I was running Mj's BLEND ICS, and have been having problems with reboots, etc. So I saw a new version out and wanted to try that. I rebooted and noticed CWM was gone, and it looked like a stock recovery.
So I was reading up a bit and moved over the new version to the SD, then while under that recovery, I made a HUGE mistake and hit the power (forgetting that's [enter]) and whatever it was on it formatted data/system and cache so the phone is now dead (luckily not bricked).
On boot it sits at the Samsung title but that's it. I DO have access to both recovery (which is NOT cwm) but also have access to ODIN (huge + IMO).
So, I had the following;
BaseBand: 57 : 10.10 5.FD19
Kernel: 3.0.15-SPH=D710.FD26-XL467198
So naturally my question is what to do next? Back in my evo day's I ran CW7 and was very happy, I see C9 is out but the docs I saw said coming from GB, where I HAD ICS).
So the million dollar question, how do I proceed? Since I have access to ODIN, I would like to either;
a) restore a brand new stock rooted ICS for the g2 (note I am on sprint)
b) move back to either blend, or even more like to try c9.
Thanks as always to the group for all read/replies, out of all my posts/fun, this was my first facepalm!

You will have to forgive me. This is still very new to me. It is my understanding that the el26 and el29 safe kernels will not boot ICS after the rom has been installed. Am I wrong in this assumption? I am also assuming that the CM10.1 rom installed a jellybeen kernal and modem. So I would have to follow the instructions I used to load CM10.1 and install el29 with mobil odin, then boot into recovery, flash FI27 rom. From there I would again boot into recovery and flash the FI27 kernel? Again sorry for my noobness Im a little over my head here. But that's what makes it fun .
