Hello everybody,
I've got serious problems... my Kindle fire is rooted and installed CM7. But it can't touch anything some days ago.
Even I change to recovery mode to use TWRP, but I can't touch on Install, Backup, Restore... button anymore.
Is there any problem with the hardware? Or firm-ware problem? How can I solve it?
Please help me repair.
Thank you.
Duc
If you installed a twrp theme lately, delete the theme.
[Edit:] Or are you saying the touch controls won't work at all, even while booted normally?

Even when I use KFU 0.9.3 with TWRP 2.0.0, it still doesn't work

Correct. They won't work at all in normal mode and recovery mode.
In normal mode, I saw informations on widgets still worked such as weather, clock, battery percent... But the screen won't work when I touch.
Did you install any third party kernel outside of the rom you used?
When did the touch stop working? As soon as you installed the rom or sometime after? (Or, was your kindle ever working correctly?)
It's odd that the touch would stop working outright. I'm assuming you tried lock/unlocking the screen, it may bug out.
Try hard restarting the kindle by holding down the power button for >10 seconds.
go to sdcard/twrp/ delete the folder called theme then reboot

Thanks for your suggestion, superxpro.
I've tried restart by holding the power button many many times but it won't work.
I didn't install any third party kernel, just CM7.
I has stop working some days ago. I don't use any app to lock/unlock screen.
I'm assuming that there was some apps automatic updated, it has bugs which conflicted with Kindle fire and make the it gone crazy.

How can I delete that folder while I can't touch in normal and recovery mode both?
Is there any adb command which help me do this?

Thepooch thinks you have a problem with TWRP themes that's preventing you from using TWRP. You're problem is more widespread.
Because your touchscreen doesn't work in any setting, normal or recovery, I'm fairly certain it's going to be a hardware issue. I'm almost positive you will not be able to fix this with software.
I had the same problem and had to send my unit back to Amazon for replacement.

They send you a replacement first and you have to send yours back. If you're asking if they would charge you for the replacement because you sent back a modified Kindle Fire, I don't have any idea. You'd have to ask someone who's sent a non-stock unit back to Amazon.

Thanks kinfauns.
But I still hope there is some ways to fix it by software. Because I'm in Vietnam and I bought from a man who bring this kindle from US, it's really complicated if I need to send back to Amazon.

I don't want to knock you down from your high when your device is working again, but the same thing happened to my device as well. The touch interface suddenly started working again, but after a few days it died once more and never came back.
I can assure you that there's nothing magical in the unbrick utility that would fix your malfunctioning touch screen. It's just coincidence that it happened that way. I'm glad the device is working again, but you should be prepared for another fight with the touchscreen. It may be coming soon.

Was trying to root kf . started "Install Permanent Boot, etc." all seamed to be going OK. Went as far as TWRP was installed. At that point the OS for the fire was GONE. Fire is hung at TWRP. No operating system for anything. Plz HELP
If TWRP is still functional, then you can just "mount USB," put a rom and gapps into the folder, flash them, then boom! You'll have an OS again; just basic protocol haha.
I would also wipe data/cache, dalvik, etc. just in case...
...But if you want stock Amazon Gingerbread then you're going to have to look way back in time in the forums for the stock rom.
What happens when you reboot system? Does it go right back to TWRP?
Me Too
I have no OS on my kindle fire. I wiped the memory and now I lost my roms and backups. I heard you can try ADB, but I couldn't get it to work. Mine just boots to the kindle fire logo but nothing else happens. It's basically collecting dust.
Take a breath, relax, and take comfort in the fact that there is nothing wrong with your Kindle. It is doing exactly what it was told to do. Your problem is easy to fix, but you need to know what's going on first.

Was not able to answer you as I was out town without internet connection-- When I boot I get a "Nornal Boot", "Recovery", and "Reset Boot Mode". The first two choices get a black screen with KindleFire, fire is blue after a bit fire turns red. also, upper right corner "V1.4"
If I go to #3, "Reset Boot", I get into TWRP. Saw on You Tube how to reinstall systen, however it would Reboot--NO OPERATING SYSTEM.

Wow, very interesting, and welcome back.
Weird. It's almost as if you have TWRP installed to the system partition. Selecting "reset boot" on FFF1.4 changes the idme value to 4000, so your device should boot to the system partition no matter what. But you said the boot logo changes from blue to red. What's actually happening, is the bootloader finishes doing it's thing and then boots to the system. The red and white Kindle Fire logo you see then is the stock boot animation, which makes everything really strange. "Recovery" boot shouldn't show the boot animation at all. And if you have recovery installed to the system partition, you shouldn't see the boot animation there either. WTF did you do to your Kindle?
My best advice would be to get into fastboot and reinstall TWRP to the correct partition so you can reinstall your ROM. From the sounds of it, you will likely have no access to the adb shell, in which case you would need to get a factory cable.
So, boot into recovery and enter the following command to see if you even have a working shell:
Code:
adb shell idme bootmode 4002
no os

Reverting to stock would only compound your problems right now as it would wipe out your custom recovery and bootloader, which are necessary to fix any problems should they arise.
Your best bet, as I mentioned earlier would be to reinstall TWRP, if that is actually the problem, but I'm not quite sure yet. I would be very helpful to know what ROM you tried to install when this problem started, and what steps you took to install it.

If reinstalling TWRP doesn't fix the problem, there may be a problem with your file system.
Run the following commands and post the results here:
Code:
adb shell
parted /dev/block/mmcblk0
print
And a factory cable will only put the device in fastboot, not help you to install a ROM.

Hey guys,
So, the other day i was just playing a game and then all of a sudden i get a ton of lines up and down the screen and i could see parts of the screen but not the whole screen and it became really slow to respond. I tried to reboot but it is just black with some grey lines.
I am running CM 10.1 and did everything in hashcode's forum to get there.
When i plug the kindle into my computer i can still see and access all of the internal storage and everything and i can still reach the TWRP bootloader screen but i just cant see anything.
I attached a picture of what it looks like in TWRP bootloader. I did not drop the Kindle or anything like that this all literally happened while i was holding it and playing a game.
Any help is greatly appreciated and I have no idea what else to do.

Do a full wipe data, cache, dalvik and system reflash Rom cleanly then see if upon boot the problem persists. Otherwise I would say it`s some kind of hardware issue.

So your saying this is the boot screen not TWRP you need to access recovery if not wipe in fastboot
Code:
fastboot -i 0x1949 erase cache
Code:
fastboot -i 0x1949 erase userdata
at the userdata part it could hang just let it sit for ten minutes or so side note this will wipe your sdcard so all backups and rom files will be gone. So best you transfer all you wish to keep to your pc. This is not a promise your issue will be gone but it would be my approach if you cannot get into recovery. First try to access recovery by holding volume up button on first splash at boot continue to hold till it enters recovery. Now if that is the bootloader and not CM10 boot screen something more is amiss but I highly doubt you have magiclly broken your bootloader playing a game.
Edit: Also I would gather that you have completely powered the device off then on again?

Sorry for the confusion, yes i have powered off and on again and yes i can get into recovery. The picture that i took was when i was in recovery. You can kind of make out the TWRP logo in the top left corner and the blue lines on top of "install" and things like that. However, the screen looks like this so i cant make out the buttons that i need to press which is why i was asking if i could do all of these things in a command prompt because recovery isnt doing anything for me right now.
If this clears things up and there are different lines of code i should run then i will wait but if its the same then i will run them when you respond. Thanks.

when you let the device try to boot are all the animations normal or does this distortion persist through all? if it persists this has got to be some kind of major hardware malfunction. If your boot animations look normal but you only see this take place when in recovery then I suggest getting into fastboot and reflashing TWRP. You can still try the wipes in fastboot that I recommended at this point I do not believe there is any harm in doing so. If none of what I suggested helps you might have one toasted Kindle so maybe instruction will take place for you to prepare to return it to Amazon we will cross that road when we come to it.

Sure no problem when I get home I will write something up for you or we can restore it to return together either way. If this graphical issue persists across all partitions of the device it's completely logical that it is a serious hardware malfunction.
Not exactly sure how it hooks up, but could it possibly be a loose cable to the LCD screen?

I wouldn`t even bother opening it let Amazon do their job. Case openers, case damage it would be pretty hard to pin the issue on them if you were to open the device.
Actually because of the present condition of the device I would go this route http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2096888 . Just pick the latest version of the 8.9 to restore to you should also be prompted with an option to wipe cache and data please do so. All the partitions will be restored to stock and the device will be ready for return. Say nothing about modifying the device just leave those details out. If you want help catch me online and we will set something up. Some of this does depend on the state of your warranty. Be courteous with customer service and brief as to what caused the issue you simply just found it that way Good luck.
Good point, wasn't really thinking about "what if the problem wasn't that".

Hello all, so yesterday I went on my tablet (Nexus 7 2013 WIFI ver.) and browsed the net a bit and went to sleep. I recall having around 30% battery power. This morning I wake up to an apparently flat battery (power button didn't turn on anything) so I just plugged it in and did something else. After a while, I took my tablet and started it with the power button. However, it got stuck on the Google logo and never fired up anything. I've rooted the tablet quite some time ago (months) so the cause is not from there.
Things I haven't recently done:
Installing an app.
Rooting or flashing anything.
Updating an app.
Things I have tried doing to fix the problem:
Booting into FASTBOOT then trying the recovery mode = still stuck on the Google logo.
Booting a custom recovery image using Wug's toolkit = frozen at the team logo (TWRP) / black screen (CWM).
Flash Stock + Unroot (Soft-Bricked/Bootloop) = FAILED (flash write failure).
So now I'm really stuck and desperate to make the device work again. I've been reading all day long and trying all sorts of solutions to no avail. And it seems far-fetched to me for a device like this to just instantly brick itself without any reason at all.
Can anyone help me with this case ? Or does anyone has any idea what just happened to my tablet ? :crying:
EDIT: I'm afraid that warranty might not work as the device was unlocked and rooted so it's the last solution for me.
Bumpity bump
No one has any idea what happened to the tablet and how to fix it ? I've tried doing some more flashing but to no avail. It just refuses to flash and keeps failing to write the files.
I think you need to leave out on the charger for 1/2hr without doing anything with it. You are probably using what little power it has charged by trying to reboot it, etc.
I had to do that once and it did the trick.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Free mobile app
There is no reason you should not be able to get in to recovery (power and volume down).
You could call Motorola. They have good tech support.
The exact same thing happened to me. I rooted it months ago and haven't changed a thing since then. It just froze up a few days ago. I restarted and it just gets stuck on the google screen. I can get into the bootloader, but when I try to go to recovery, the google screen comes up and won't go away. I've tried every method I can find for flashing the stock image and absolutely nothing is working. I just get stuck on the google screen.
Please update this if you find a solution!
Do u guys have the most up to date version of whatever particular recovery that you're on?

If you can't get into recovery or flash any images it sounds to me like a hardware failure. Bad memory maybe? If you've tried everything then RMA to Asus before the one year warranty runs out.
Have you tried to see if your computer sees your N7 by typing fastboot devices if you have the sdk installed?

Yes, I can get into the bootloader just fine and I can use fastboot. I go through the flashing process and the command prompt says everything flashed successfully, but when I restart the device, it hangs on the google logo. The same thing happens when I try to boot into recovery.

I tried to factory restore the device but for some reason after the factory restore and watching the funny cartoon on set up the device said I only had 2.5gb of hard drive space left of the 5.5 gb available so I decided to try formatting the data on the clockwork mod restore but it still didn't work so I then formatted the sd but as soon as I did this I thought that can't be right as surely the recovery image is on that but it was too late. After it rebooted the fire TV no longer works. It just hangs on the White amazon logo. I've tried the "ALT-PRNT SCREEN-I" option to try get it to restore but with no luck, it just constantly stays on the White amazon logo so I'm kinda thinking I've totally wiped the fire TV and have therefore bricked it. It does respond to "control-alt-delete" but that just reboots the device.
Can anyone advise if this is indeed the case so I don't waste any of my time trying to fix this. I can't return the product as I purchased it on a recent holiday to usa and I'm from uk so a bit gutted.
Many thanks in advance
Paul1672
Sounds like you wiped your /system. If so, then yes you are soft bricked.
I have soft bricked this unit before and managed to restore it but that was before I installed the clockwork mod and custom rom.
If it is soft bricked surely I would be able to restore it still? I have tried several times to get it to return to the clockwork mod restore using the "ALT-PRINTSCREEN-i" method but all I get is the constant white Amazon logo. It feels like I've totally wiped the entire system including all sign of clockwork mod
Can anyone advise if I have indeed totally messed it up or is there any hope for me?
Paul
Anybody got any advice or opinion be it good or bad?
Before I bin the unit

Yes, I have some advice. Don't do that crap again. Be smart. And I'm a bit curious, you talk about an external harddrive and you then talk about wiping the SD card. You mean the /sdcard directory in the AFTV? Seriously? If that is the case, I have some better advice for you. Don't tinker with stuff you don't understand.
So I can assume from your reply I have indeed wiped the entire system and there is in fact no way to repair/restore the device? Totally agree with all you said and I did realise my error literally as soon as I did it a harsh lesson learnt I think and believe me it's not one I will be repeating.
Was just hoping I may be lucky and find someone who has a way of solving my issue but it appears not
Paul
Hi
What's your suggestion or advice be to resolve the problem that was presented.

Naw, you didn't brick you device. Sorry, was in some sort of mood when posted.
http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-unbr...ry-mode-and-factory-reset-the-amazon-fire-tv/
That link gives information. You need to get into recovery mode and a factory restore. If the factory restore doesn't work, then just use the same firmware you had before you deleted the stuff. You can put any firmware on a usb stick and read it from that.
Most of this has been covered in the various threads, I suggest you browse thru them, lots of good stuff.
good luck, and sorry I didn't include this in my last post, i should of.
Are u sure mate? I've tried the Alt-prntscreen-I method without any success. The fire tv won't boot into the clockwork mod recovery at all and I'm wondering if I've formatted it somehow. I guess until I get into the restore screen I can't do a thing I did have clockwork mod installed and a custom rom, wud that make a difference as I did indeed format the fire tv sd partition.
Appreciate your help

You should be able to get to a recovery screen from what you did, I would think, unless maybe if you deleted everything from the root directory, not the sdcard directory. I am not an expert on that though. It's our thanksgiving holiday here in the states, so the peeps that know might not be around.
Sorry I can't be more helpful then that.
You copy your recovery.img to the sdcard only as an interim step for flashing. It then gets stored in a separate partition that CWM won't wipe. If you have done the changes you mention from CWM, then CWM is still present on the device. I had to get in to my system with the alt-prtscreen-I method as well, and it took a few tries, spamming the keeps after unplugging and replugging the device. Also if you are using a k400 or some other keyboard with a FN key you may have to push that as well to make sure it gets the proper key sequence. I'm fairly confident your device is only softbricked and can be recovered. you may need to adb sideload or copy a zip to usb to load the firmware, but it should be doable.
well, I've tried constantly rebooting and pressing alt-printscreen-I simultaneously for the last half hour with no luck wotsoever all I get is the constant white amazon logo. in fact, the logo appears as soon as I connect the power lead and just hangs there until I either remove the lead or press control-alt-delete at which point the device reboots.
something tells me I've done something a lot more serious than just wipe the sd partition but I'm a little surprised if clockwork mod would allow it.
kinda giving up now as I have soft bricked the device before but that was before I installed clockwork mod and it went to factory restore just fine doing the alt-printscreen-i method that time.
thanks for all the advice guys. I really do appreciate any help I have had. I'm willing to try anything to try get this unit to work. the way I see it, I have nothing to lose right now. just seems strange the unit no longer shows any sign of changing from the constant white amazon logo. there's definitely no sign of the colourful amazon logo that usually appears at some point during the boot process which kinda gives me the impression I've somehow completely wiped the whole system.
is that even possible guys?
If you are saying that ctrl-alt-del reboots your box then the alt -sysrq-i should get you to recovery. Try using a wired keyboard and maybe a different keyboard than you have been using.
Ive tried a wired keyboard and now when I press ALT-PRNTSCREEN-i the fire tv just reboots. I've followed the guide that is in a previous reply which I have been able to do on a previous unrelated soft brick I managed but this time each time I do the ALT-PRINTSCREEN-i combo it just reboots and nothing else. Just a white AMAZON logo. I have done the method like 5 times and still no joy

Call Amazon and play stupid saying it just hangs at the logo, I did that once and they send me a replacement free of charge.
Wish I could but i purchased it whilst on holiday in Florida and I'm from the uk
Anybody got any more advice? It seems really strange that I can't get the factory reset to work. Still stuck on the White Amazon logo which boots instantly as soon s I power the device. I've managed to get the device to power cycle using ALT-PRNTSCREEN-i method bit it's does it going on 20 times with absolutely no sign of the failed update screen so it looks like the device just doesn't have anything on it. Is it possible I've somehow completely wiped the clockwork mod recovery? And if I have shud the device revert back to factory restore or may I of wiped that too?

no its not possible that you wiped recovery from what you did in cwm.. its located on a different partition, if you cant connect via ADB or cant get recovery to load your out of luck.. so did you install the newest prerooted rom? what about the boot menu?
I had the following pre-rooted rom installed:
51.1.4.0_514006420 updated
Sounds like I've messed it up then

no need for the boot menu on that update iirc. i think you need to just keep trying to get to recovery, i think its still there.. the key command is just not registering.. keep trying i guess.
When I got home I turned on the FTV and briefly saw an update prompt, ands then I must of accidentally hit the accept button on the remote and the device started to remote and update but I immediately pulled the power cord to prevent the update.
Now I have no idea what to do next. Is there anyway to stop the update when I plug it in ands if not, will I able to get root again?
Thanks for all the help everyone.

Do you have cwm recovery? If so you could boot to it and do a factory reset, then be sure to pm disable updates. For now I'd block amazon domains on your router but that's not a 100% guarantee. Aftvnews should have any info you need.
I don't think I installed CMW. Is there anyway to tell at this point, and if it's installed, how do I boot into it? I blocked Amazon updates with my router but recently connected with my phone's hotspot without thinking and it must of downloaded the update then.
Anyone have any other recommendations at this point? If I don't have CWM am I out of luck?

If you do have ClockworkMod, then you're safe because it will prevent the update from installing. A Fire TV with ClockworkMod that gets an OTA update will download the update, then restart the Fire TV in recovery mode. Since stock recovery has been replaced with ClockworkMod, it will just ignore the stock update.
If you don't have ClockworkMod, you can use the ALT+PrintScreen+i method to hopefully get into stock recovery without installing the update. From there, I would clear the cache partition and do a factory reset. More info on how to do that can be found here: http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-unbr...ry-mode-and-factory-reset-the-amazon-fire-tv/
I don not know if that will work, but it's your best bet.

That's what I was hoping for. Thanks for the information!
So I connected a keyboard and tried for an hour or better to get this thing into recovery but with no success. I tried the ALT+PRT SCRN+I and it just won't work. It keeps going into the update screen and I keep unplugging the box. If someone can help me get this going I will PAYPAL YOU $20!
Otherwise I am giving this thing away.

It's thankfully never happened to me but just from reading here, it can be incredibly hard to get to recovery. They're mostly trying to get to cwm (which I believe you don't have?) But in theory I think it should work with stock...
If possible, try a different keyboard. If using a hub then connect it directly. Change your timing (when you actually press the keys) Alter between holding them down the keys and tapping them. And just for the heck of it, try working in the remote at some point (back button and right arrow for 15 seconds performs reset)
Sorry. It sounds silly but many people have needed to get to recovery and no one can definitively say what works for everyone. At least I don't think anyone can??? Good luck

That's the best reply yet. Your correct, I don't have Clock work recovery. I'll try to add in the remote to the equation. Thank you for your input.
Anyone want a free Amazon FTV? I can't get it into recovery.
I'll take it!
