[Q]Any clue about how to calibrate our g-sensor? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I have always has the problem that my device will be about 4 degree off set to the left when I hold it portrait, so I've been searching for a way to calibrate our g-sensor but end up with nothing found. It also turns out that galaxy nexus didn't have any option to calibrate g-sensor onboard, so the only thing I can do is to open this topic and see if anybody can give any advice. Any help will be appreciated.

Haven't found a way either...compass calibration seems to work for a little bit but resets itself. Calibrate compass by rotating phone twice along each of its three axis

Hope more people will look into this.

Maybe there is an hidden menu for it? Even the iPhone has the abillity to calibrate...so why Android should not have it, too?
Or should it calibrate it self?

Really? I'm not even aware that iPhone has such function. Maybe that's because my 4s has always been OK.

I have the same problem with my Galaxy Nexus. There is no option to calibrate the G-sensor and I've looked everywhere. I was trying to play temple run and the sensor is all messed up so I cannot play it.

Same issue here, was just about to post a thread before seeing this, ask one of the devs perhaps?
Maybe a MOD could sticky this?
Problem as seen in attached screen shot, when phone is place upright, the plumb line is off

I know this sounds silly, but have either of you tried turning the phone off, placing it on a flat surface, and then starting up the phone while not touching or moving it until it's fully rebooted?
I would image since there's no calibration settings in the menu, it's performing some kind of calibration while starting...? Anyone?
Also, there are several compass and leveling apps in the market that provide the option to calibrate.

I just tried rebooting it on a flat surface but nope, problem still persists.
Apps on the play store do calibrate but its only app specific and not system wide. so a bubble line app may be calibrated but when using any other apps it goes back to the default calibrations.

I might be wrong... but I thought I remember reading somewhere about a hidden menu that had an option to calibrate it. It was something like #282828, or something similar. I could be wrong, I just faintly remember.

So far what I have found is a hidden menu for gtalk service. But nothing else. Problem still not solved.

Android has no global calibration system. Every app/game author needs to implement calibration on its own. Talk about wasting resources.. Thanks, Google.

Even my Galaxy S II upgraded to Android 4.0 it still give me the ability to calibrate the sensors, so I still believe there has to be a way to do so...

Type *#9998*627837793# Go to the 'my parameters' and there you will find new menu where you can unlock phone.(not tested-for
samsung C100)
To unlock a Samsung turn the phone off take the sim card and type the following code *#pw+15853649247w# .
Java status code: #*53696# (Samsung X600)
If you want to unlock your phone put a sim from another company then type *#9998*3323# it will reset your phone. Push exit and then
push 7, it will reset again. Put your other sim in and it will say sim lock, type in 00000000 then it should be unlocked. Type in *0141#
then the green call batton and it's unlocked to all networks. This code may not work on the older phones and some of the newer phones.
If it doesn't work you will have to reset your phone without a sim in it by typing *#2767*2878# or *#9998*3855# (not tested)
I know that for the Samsung Eternity to get to the administrative menu type this in your dial pad,
*#6984125*#
Operator code for Pre-configuration
*#73561*# (probably won't need this)
And the Master Key is
*#3818790*#

Apps only calibrate for themselves, not other apps.
And, yes, your idea is silly, since the device doesn't know it's location on a surface. What if you turn it while not lying flat? If your method would work, it would decalibrate most devices since they are not being turned on while lying flat.

[Q] LTE Only?

I often do live streaming of events and from time to time I am forced to tether my cell to my laptop for internet access. This actually works better than you would expect. Anyway, back in the ICS (Task650 AOKP) days anytime I needed to do this I would use the old *#*#4636*#*# code and select "LTE only". This worked great, it disabled CDMA (so no calls or texts), and most importantly it prevented the phone from switching between CDMA and LTE (which obviously would be disastrous during a live stream).
Now that I am running JB (tried CM10.1 and Task650 AOKP), this doesn't work anymore. Even though LTE works perfectly fine under normal circumstances, when I select "LTE Only" the phone simply disconnects everything and I never get data back. It seems like there was a change in the modem options or something. When I go into Settings->Mobile Networks->Network Mode I can select LTE/WCDMA, LTE/GSM/WCDMA, GSM/WCDMA. If I select any of these options and go back to the phone info screen using the *#*# code, under "preferred network type" it says "Unknown."
I've tried two modems with the same results:
I747MUMLL1
I747MVLLH1
Any ideas on what I can do?
A quick update. I did try the stock modem firmware. No change. I went back to a stock ROM, which no longer accepted the *#*# code, but did accept the *#2263# code which allowed me to select LTE band preference and locked it into LTE. Is there a way to get into this menu from an AOSP ROM? Is this specific to the dialer?
Maybe a APN change could help this but I don't think you can perma lock LTE as it's not available everywhere.
Also, mind if I ask why you wanna have LTE only? It's already set to use LTE when needed, therefor, you don't need to lock it on.

Hi BWolf,
I had mentioned it in my first post but the reason I want LTE only is so I can prevent the switching of bands between LTE and HSPDA when I am live streaming. Anytime a switch occurs there's a down period of a few seconds which causes the live stream to freeze. Even with full LTE bars, the phone seems to switch every now and then.
I know it's possible, because I can do it on the stock ROM, and I could do it with the older AOSP ICS ROM's. After decompiling the stock FactoryTest.apk file it appears that everything is controlled using invokeOemRilRequestRaw commands. I'll dig into it a bit further, I'm sure there's a way to replicate the functionality.
Ugh. I was hoping the setting was actually achieved using some sort of simple command send to the baseband. That is not the case. Apparently the whole menu system resides in the baseband, and the serviceModeApp.apk app simply provides a dummy interface to display the choices and respond back with selections.
I think at this point it's a little more work than it's worth. I can always flash a nandroid of a stock rom for the streaming and then flash back afterwards. Not ideal, but it'll have to do.
Well, I've solved it. After more effort than I care to admit to, I've found the cause of a lot of the grief with the network mode settings. I'll leave this info here in case someone else ever comes looking for it.
First off, it appears selecting "LTE only" wasn't working due to some sort of bug either with the radio baseband or with how some of the custom roms deal with the baseband. This bug was persistent across ROM reflashes because persistent data in the baseband remained. It appeared to have fixed itself when I flashed back to a stock rooted rom and did a factory reset. Other people have found this solution to work for other bizarre radio related issues, such as no LTE. Anyway, that fixed the LTE only selection.
In regards to the apparent disconnect between the list of preferred networks and what the radio was actually doing, as it turns out there is a mismatch. At some point in my search I downloaded the CM10.1 source and started digging around. I found in the ril directory the reference-ril.c file which describes the network modes:
Code:
static int net2modem[] = {
MDM_GSM | MDM_WCDMA, // 0 - GSM / WCDMA Pref
MDM_GSM, // 1 - GSM only
MDM_WCDMA, // 2 - WCDMA only
MDM_GSM | MDM_WCDMA, // 3 - GSM / WCDMA Auto
MDM_CDMA | MDM_EVDO, // 4 - CDMA / EvDo Auto
MDM_CDMA, // 5 - CDMA only
MDM_EVDO, // 6 - EvDo only
MDM_GSM | MDM_WCDMA | MDM_CDMA | MDM_EVDO, // 7 - GSM/WCDMA, CDMA, EvDo
MDM_LTE | MDM_CDMA | MDM_EVDO, // 8 - LTE, CDMA and EvDo
MDM_LTE | MDM_GSM | MDM_WCDMA, // 9 - LTE, GSM/WCDMA
MDM_LTE | MDM_CDMA | MDM_EVDO | MDM_GSM | MDM_WCDMA, // 10 - LTE, CDMA, EvDo, GSM/WCDMA
MDM_LTE, // 11 - LTE only
};
These correspond directly to the spinner selections in the phone info activity, which are:
Code:
private String[] mPreferredNetworkLabels = {
"WCDMA preferred",
"GSM only",
"WCDMA only",
"GSM auto (PRL)",
"CDMA auto (PRL)",
"CDMA only",
"EvDo only",
"GSM/CDMA auto (PRL)",
"LTE/CDMA auto (PRL)",
"LTE/GSM auto (PRL)",
"LTE/GSM/CDMA auto (PRL)",
"LTE only",
"Unknown"};
If you compare the two, you can see that the descriptions are not entirely accurate. In particular, many of the mode strings do not indicate they would select EVDO (even though the mask from reference-ril.c clearly shows they would). On devices which don't support EVDO, such as the i747, selecting these modes fail.
With the LTE only network mode now working, I see no need to implement the service mode band selection menu. With that said I did have a few solid strategies for doing it, if I decided to go that route. I peeked into the SecFactoryPhoneTest.apk a little bit, which is the service Samsung uses to communicate between the RIL and userspace java apps. It connects to a local socket named "Multiclient". I found this really bizarre because the telephony stack already connects to the RIL socket, and second the socket is typically named "rild". I believe Samsung has a custom implementation of rild (the linux userspace daemon which passes RIL requests to the kernel) which implements this extra "multiclient" socket. I could not find this socket on my AOSP based ROMs, so I assume it is a proprietary Samsung thing.
Instead of connecting directly to an RIL socket, you might be able to send the bytes associated with pulling up the band selection menu, and then blind sending the correct menu selections. The samsung service uses reflection to try and send RIL requests through the ITelephony interface (and then falls back on making a direct RIL connection). Here's how it does it:
Code:
Method localMethod = localITelephony.getClass().getDeclaredMethod("sendOemRilRequestRaw", new Class[] { [B.class, [B.class });
Now I think the sendOemRilRequestRaw method is another proprietary function, but a similar one exists in the AOSP RIL implementation which is invokeOemRilRequestRaw. Using the same technique you might be able to send raw bytes to the RIL without messing around with sockets.
Ironically I just found in the source a c program that connects directly to the rild and issues commands to select certain radio options. Path is hardware/ril/rild/radiooptions.c. It connects to the debug ril socket to issue commands. A potentially super easy route to issue commands in the future would just be to modify that and run it as a command with superuser from java.

codes not working
I'm trying to access the phone control option because i need to unlock my phone (samsung galaxy s4 locked to at&t)
can anyone help me?
i'm watching this tutorial on youtube
but i can't get to the same screen this guy is getting to
the only difference i see is that my band is 5 and his is 2
please help
I wonder if these propagate across all samsung devices.
some codes work, some don't and some are changed.
For example: first 2 codes work fine then *#1234# (firmware version) does not work on at least some note 3 phones, but *#9999# does same thing.
Maybe we should update the list for Note 3 by testing most of the codes, but I'm not willing to touch any reset codes.
Of course there is another issue, which codes work on which version of Note 3 and then we have 2 versions of Android as well.
Just couple days ago guy was looking for *#2263# code to change network mode, in one of the forums, so this list is very useful.
I2C doesnt work.
Some of the codes I tried worked. Thanks dude!
Very nice

Does anyone know how much of an affect the wifi power save menu is when you turn it off vs turning it back on.

[help] ee data on dhd (urgent)

Hello, I am on pay as you go on EE and on Dolphin. I topped up £15 and it gave me 2gb data and 600 free texts for a month. One, I don't know how I'm gonna kill all of that!? Two it won't work. That was on my RandomROM Sense 4.1 version (USB Works BTW LEGIT I have my dhd) and it said
"Disconnected because service is unavailable". So looking here http://community.ee.co.uk/t5/produc...C-One-SV-and-TMobile-internet-data/td-p/37002 it says known problem about One SV (Which RandomROM is partly based upon) and it tells me to create a new APN.
Name = Internet
APN = everywhere (case sensitive)
Proxy = Leave Blank
Port = Leave Blank
Username = eesecure
Password = secure
Server = Leave Blank
MMSC = Leave Blank
MMS proxy = Leave Blank
MMS port = Leave Blank
MCC = 234
MNC = 30
Authentication type = PAP
APN type = default
APN protocol = IPv4
Bearer = Unspecified
Also APN protocol and Bearer don't seem to appear and when I save this configuration it doesn't save, all there is is the defaults that don't work.
Now I am trying it on TakTik 4.4. I edit the default EE Internet to MNC=30 and it randomly disappears from the list. Can anyone help me? (My Desire HD was previously carrier locked on Orange before I S-OFFed )
PS I want to stay on RandomROM (For development reasons)
anybody???
Have you tried any thing

[Official] ASUS ZE551ML Bug Reporting Thread

Hi everyone - I apologize for not posting very much lately, but if you tag me in a post or send me a PM, I will read it.
We have not forgotten about you guys.
Anyways, this is the official bug reporting thread for the ZenFone 2 (ZE551ML) WW variant (North America). I will constantly check this page and report all bugs to our software team. Please limit the posts to issues you encounter in our official firmware and not problems with third party applications.
To report a bug please include the following information -
Example -
Model: 4GB RAM
Baseband version: 1524_5.0.31.0_0623, 1517_7.0.16.0_0605
Build number: LRX21V.WW-ASUS_Z00A-2.19.40.22_20150627
Problem: Stuff doesn't work
How to recreate: Open this app, switch to this, get error, etc...
Carrier(s): AT&T in Sim 1, T-Mobile in Sim 2
Wi-Fi Frequency (if connected): 5 GHz / 802.11ac
Model: 4GB RAM
Build number: LRX21V.WW-ASUS_Z00A-2.19.40.22_20150627
Problem:
1. Dialer Freezes after disconnecting calls.
2. Proximity doesn't wake up the screen after the call gets disconnected. If i wave my have over the sensor, the screen wakes up. So, i guess, the sensor freezes.
3. Device doesn't vibrate when the call gets picked up. (There is a setting which doesn't seem to work)
4. Sometimes, WIFI turns on Automatically. Occurred Just twice till date (It just occurred today)
How to recreate: For 1 - 3 Just call a couple of people back-to-back
For 4 Its Random
Great initiative by you.
But why is this thread only for North America?? And not WW SKU in general??

Read the first post. This is for bugs in official firmware ("original ROM") only.
Model: 2GB RAM, 16GB Storage
Baseband version: 1524_5.0.29.0_0609, 1517_7.0.16.0_0605
Build number: LRX21V.WW-ASUS_Z00A-2.19.40.22_201506027
Problem: Battery History details not occupying full width (see attached image). Think it was full back in 2.18.x.
How to recreate: Open Settings > Battery, tap the graph.
Carrier(s): Eastlink in Sim 1, Sim 2 empty
Wi-Fi Frequency (if connected): 2.4 GHz / 802.11agn
Never mind. It's full width already, it just takes into account the predicted discharge as well.
...also...
Model: 2GB RAM, 16GB Storage
Baseband version: 1524_5.0.29.0_0609, 1517_7.0.16.0_0605
Build number: LRX21V.WW-ASUS_Z00A-2.19.40.22_201506027 (first noticed with earlier 2.13[?].x)
Problem: Wallpaper changes to purple ASUS stock one reboot after a factory reset
How to recreate: Wipe data (or pick up a brand new phone), go through setup, change the wallpaper, reboot.
Carrier(s): Eastlink in Sim 1, Sim 2 empty
Wi-Fi Frequency (if connected): 2.4 GHz / 802.11agn
EDIT (one more):
There is also a quirk with power switch from the lockscreen. Can be recreated by pressing the power button to sleep, and then plug the phone in. Phone wakes up, but if power is pressed in the first few seconds of the wake (to sleep again), it awakes a second time.
If you have troubles with recreating this one, try turning Daydream on first. I have it on, and encounter this problem constantly when I want my phone to charge efficiently (I use daydream for the cases I don't want the wifi to shut off when I have aggressive power saving set up - I just plug in to a wall outlet or PC for those cases[*])
[*] Really useful for other devices if I had a big download and Deep Sleep Battery Saver was still running. Oh, the habits we pick up.

Because I am a North America employee and its hard to look at issues for other regions I have no control of if it involves the cellular network.
However, if its general problems that are not carrier specific, I don't mind them being reported here.
Hey Tuanies, is there a plan to move to 5.1 that you know of?

You need to enter your pattern in before you change the unlock type.

Do you mean you don't want the grey predicted bit on the history details? I agree with you on that - when you tap on the graph to see the history details it should change to showing only up to now.

The gray is okay. I found it odd that the cell network, wifi, sleep, screen on, etc doesn't take up the full width of the screen.
But I see that this is not a bug now, rather a feature. Because I looked again, and the bars end at the barrier between the blue and gray above.
Sorry, I never noticed that before.

Have you tried selecting none first, then go back, and then change to swipe?
ALso which software version? I had a similar issue with an engineering sample but that was back in February.
Also are you using snap view at all?
Model: 4GB RAM
Baseband version: 1524_5.0.31.0_0623, 1517_7.0.16.0_0605
Build number: LRX21V.WW-ASUS_Z00A-2.19.40.22_20150627
Problem: My phone will have the sim card in it, but will sometimes say "Emergency calls only" instead of my carrier. It will have a signal usually 1-2 bars. when this happens, I can't make calls or send texts. I can usually switch it to airplane mode, then turn off airplane mode to correct the issue.
How to recreate: seems to be random, mostly when I have a weaker signal, but has happened when I've had 3-5 bars of service
Carrier(s): Cricket in Sim 1

Scrolling widgets items not clickable
Ever since I received an OTA software update earlier in the week, items listed are no longer responing to taps.
Baconreader, and plume exhibit this behavior both in the default launcher and every this party launcher I've tried (apex, nova etc).
Greader scrolling widget works fine.
Uninstalling apps/clearing data did not help.
