I plugged in my phone in fastboot mode and used flashtool to flash a .62 fw in order for me to get jokawild v3. It was flashing really slowly and after 2 hours it was up to 19%. So I left it over night. Today in the morning when I looked at it, there was a red light flashing on my phone and flashtool said that the flashing has been aborted. Here is a log from flashtool.
So why did it take frickin long and how do I really flash a fw. I though I was doing the right steps.
EDIT = When I try to turn on my phone, the Sony Ericsson logo comes up although after that, a picture with a phone and exclamation mark appears and it keeps on repeating. PLEASE HELP. HAVE I BRICKED MY PHONE!!???
You were connected in fastboot mode you only need that to flash kernels and such. You need to be connected in FLASH mode when flashing a new firmware. With your phone turned off and when your prompted hold the BACK button and plug in the usb cable, the led will turn GREEN which is flash mode and flashing should begin as normal
Sent from my R800a using XDA App
yes, im pretty sure i did hold the back button when plugging it in. This is what I did: Connected the phone by holding the back button and plugging it in (a green LED light appeared on my phone). opened up flashtool. Drag and dropped the .62fw on flashtool and thats it. it started flashing the fw.
Btw, is my phone bricked, am i able to get it back to normal (i forgot to make a backup on my stock rom)
im just flashing it again hopefully it'll be quick and also why did it take the whole day and still not be completed?
And how long does it take?
According to this http://www.theandroidsoul.com/tutorial-how-to-flash-a-firmware-using-flashtool-on-xperia-arc/ website, when he was flashing it, and it took him approx 3 minutes (if you look at the time logs). So why is mine taking soooo long?! Sorry if im impatient. Is it because I didnt untick anything when i insertd the .ftf file in flashtool?
I just got the same message again. Look in attachement. So what is the problem? Am i setting it up right?
Whenever i browse to find the fw using flashtool, these are the settings (look in attachment). What am i supposed to do? Am i supposed to keep those settings?
Can someone please help. I dont want to brick my phone. Whenever I turn on my phone, it keeps showing the SE logo and then a phone with an exclamation mark appears. This keeps on looping. Can someone please help. Thanks.
Have you tried an earlier version of flashtool? Is the battery at least 50% charge? Are all the drivers properly installed?
Sent from my R800a using XDA App
Yes I have tried earlier version of flashtool. And i also tried flashing another ftf FW. Still same thing. I dont know if the battery is charged although i think it is since I left for for charge for approx 4 hours (and it can get to 100% in 4 hours). I think all the drivers are installed. I did have trouble installing the drivers so I just put the drivers in my desktop and pointed out to them when I was manually installing the drivers for my phones bootloader to be unlocked...
Fastboot drivers are different from flashtool drivers, check in the flashtool install folder you'll see a drivers folder try to reinstall those
Sent from my R800a using XDA App
I clicked on flashtool-driver.exe (it was in the driver folder in the flashtool directory) and installed all the drivers. Hopefully it will work now when i flash .62 on it although its still taking long. When it gets up to 23% when its flashing system.sin, it gives an error. why? and how long does it normally take to flash a FW?
I just attached the log. It didnt even work this time... WHY?!?
Should I try and flash it on a laptop instead of a computer? If yes, then can someone tell me how to PROPERLY set it up as I dont want to mess this chance up

Not sure what happend, but when you press the power button, it only vibrates once but will not boot back up!
It just shows a black screen!!!!
I have sent it in to the shop and we are stuck as to how to get it on.
You can not even get into the boot loader screen!
Its been a week, and i don't know what the hell to do!!!
Some one please help!!!!
Does the power button light up green when you hold down the search button while plugging into a computer? If so, use flashtool to flash back to the stock firmware
Yes it dose, the tech guy and me have tried to do so, however the computer sees the device but dose not know what it is, however even when the files are finished it sitll dose not boot up!

If it lights up green then you cant get into fastboot, it should light up blue, if im not mistaken!
Is your phone Rooted, with BL Unlocked, and do you have CWM Recovery? You said you can not get into Bootload screen? Did you mean Recovery? Try pushing volume down repeatedly while pressing the power button, continue hitting volume down till you see the recovery screen. If you can get into recovery just do a nandroid recovery/restore, provided you did a back up prior to your issue.
It dose not light up blue, but it dose not go into the recovery screen at all, in fact when you press the power button, gives a small vibrate and the screen is still black!
Also when you put it on the charger the LED light is green, really frustrated.
However, I am new at this, like I said only had the device for a day, and this happened after I did a software update, so I am not sure what a CWM means, kindly clarify, think of giving instructions not just to a newbie, but to some one that has no clue what is going on! LOL sorry man I really am new to all of this, I just want it to work, so kindly provide me with step by step instructions that you would give to a five year old child.
Hmm... that's interesting. A CWM is a custom recovery. Green light when plugged in means its charging. It sounds almost like your phones LCD is not receiving a signal anymore, if that's the case, seeing as you wouldn't see anything on the screen in order to even do a recovery, I don't see a lot of options here. If its brand new, then its under warranty, take it back and exchange it.

This has nothing to do with your LCD =|.
It's sony's stupid software bricking the xperia play for no valid reason ; happened to me as well.
Only fix is to download Sony Ericsson Update Service and keep on retrying the software update after it fails ; This is not the Sony Ericsson Pc Suite ; Also try removing the battery for 30 seconds after 6-8 retries on SEUS - happened to me a few times after the original occurence since i was trying to get back to complete stock.
Thanks for the input, I was lost on how to help out on this one! I thought it was only bricking the rooted unlocked phones.

I will try it, however would it work after I flashed it ?
I did a few times and it took the flash files, yet still wont boot up.

Its still not booting up and the pc is now saying it dose not recognise my device!!
What to do????
As long as you can get into flash mode(green light, when you connect to pc) you're ok, wel re trying on seus and eventually it will work
Edit- it can take around 10 retries in my experience

Connect it to your PC with USB, Then go to support Zone in Pc Companion then select Phone software update and click Repair and follow the instructions, it worked for me when pc companion decided to brick me...
EDIT: Or you could always Flash 2.3.4, tut here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20151540 just follow the first two posts, I believe it will work if Flashmode is still working (The tut will tell you how to get into there)
correct me if I have said anything wrong, was in a rush.

1) hold the power + volume down for like 15 secs...(untill you feel a vibrate)
2) download flashtool at http://androxyde.github.com/
-----Install
3) download whatever FTF you want at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1752345
----move it to C:\Flashtool\firmwares
make sure drivers are installed(find them in C:\Flashtool\drivers
4) Launch Flashtool
5)select the thunderbold

6)insert the micro usb end into phone (leaving the regular usb out of computer)
----it will tell you some instructions on how to flash but they are for different xperia phone
7) while holding the volume down button while the phone is off (From step 1)
insert REGULAR usb into computer
it should say flashing, or your comp might say installing driver, or it might just say drivers not installed..
ONLY IF YOU CHOOSE TO INSTALL LT28H FTF--------------repeat this step but now install the file from (FOR LTE)

If it is an AT&T phone do you really want to update to LT28h?
why not install lt28h
all you have to do is just flash the extra ftf
and then just change the APN
which i as well as spectre have posted

In hope that someone's still looking at this thread, here is my situation: I tried flashing a prerooted image via fastboot and landed in a Sony bootloop. Then somehow I was stuck in fastboot-mode (led: static blue) and let the phone drain its battery. Now I'm able to get into flashmode but when flashing the chinese FTF with the Flashtool it stops at 1% with status "Processing .......sin" (sorry don't know the file exactly).
When I'm trying to power it up now the Sony logo comes up followed by an exclamation mark in a triangle... could you tell me what options there are left? I saw these prerooted images (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1669906), but there is none for the Ion, so I don't know what could be the next step. If I just had back my normal system... I used to flash my Galaxy S many times so I'm not that unexperienced, but it seems I really have a problem here:crying:
Any help is appreciated!

What model are you working with? And where did you get this prerooted image (the one you tried to flash)? From the link you posted I don't see one for the ion. Anyway, based on my own soft brick experience, you'll prolly need to let the phone battery drain, then charge (process can take a day or so), then try and flash your stock FTF via Flashtool.

If still no luck, like spectre51 said use repair option in pc companion.

Thx for your hints! It is kinda frustrating to wait until it is fully loaded, then try flashing, then load and wait again... but the 1%-bug seemed to be a major bug as it is fixed now in the new version 0.9.8 of the flashtool.IGonna tray again tomorrow and report my status. I already checked popfan's thread to get a point if mydevice really is bricked or not. So again thanks to all of you!
Just out of curiosity: is there a possibility to flash a prerooted ftf-file? I live in Switzerland where I bought the lt28h version. And I haven't found a prerooted. img file for flashing via fastboot. Just want to root it, custom roms etc. later
Alright, I was able to flash the chinese FTF and got my phone back working:laugh:
But I had to install the newest version 0.9.8 of the flashtool to not get the 1%-bug again. After this roooting via bin4ry's script worked well and now I'm happy happy happy. Thank you all!
I also had problems with flashtool 9.7. I used 9.0 with no problems. Didn't know about 9.8.

as the OP of this thread, thought i'd update. After reading a few threads i discovered the power/volume button trick. tried volume down with no luck, but power and volume up worked. PC Companion did not work in upgrading the phone. just kept telling me to disconnect my battery, and that if the batter cannot be disconnected to skip that step. But it wouldn't go to the next step. So I tried SUS. Worked perfectly.
So, My phone is running lt28h and my wife is on lt28at. There are some differences in the way data is downloaded. looking at my AT&T bill, the data downloads, i assume for apps that get updated, seem to be different sources. also my phone has significantly larger downloads even though we have similar apps. I do have a couple of weather apps she doesn't have that might be responsible for that.
I'd like to do some additional comparisons, but think i'll be flashing the AT&T rom on my phone soon.
Hi Guys please Help.when I try to modify my framework.jar and restart my phone my phone got bootloop. suddenly i switched off my phone by pressing volume+ or power button and my phone vibrate 3 times then my phone switch off.i tried to reflash my with flash tool but my phone doesn't switch on. no led,no display.nothing happen just dead.i tried to repair my phone with sony update service but same nothing happen.please help guys.i love my phone very much.my phone is already have 60% charged.please help somebody.

You can follow 2 methods.
Easy but time consuming method:
Connect your phone to charger and wait untill it automatically reboot. The flash ftf file. (It may take 10-15 hours or more to reboot)
Difficult but fast method.
Dessemble your phone. Remove/disconnect battery cable from your phone. Reconnect it. Connect it to flashtool as fast as you can and flash ftf file.

You need to look for the bricked thread in general. You have two options
1. Take it apart and undo the ribbon cable.
2. Go through the steps in the bricked thread but it will take a long time and you have to plug it into the factory charge block not your computer.

As avik said you need to let it charge. You are in a soft brick state so you will need to put it on the factory charger and let it charge until you get a response from it. If you mess with it before it is ready you will only make it a longer process.
I would not try changing the font unless you are on a de odex rom. If you try to change things on a factory rom you will most likely get a boot loop.
After doing a bit of reading on the app why in the world would you even try it?? So many reviews saying it bricked the device and yet you still tried it?? Make sure you read thoroughly before you go trying out stuff. Every response for a newer device is claiming a brick so use your head.
Even i have the same problem which was said by user:avik6123 . what does reboot technically refer to is it just seeing red led light over the mobile or will it switch on automatically. i have got the red led but when i connect it to system with usb cable holding volume down key it doesnt show the green led (flash mode). only the red led is on as if it is charging. can u please help me out??
Just find the soft brick thread at the top of this forum...it'll solve nearly any software related problem you're having...its just a matter of being patient and letting the phone battery completely die...
The main soft brick most owners run in to is trying to hard reset the phone when the device is in a state that you shouldn't do that...holding volume down for 10 seconds with the power button for 3 vibrates is a sure way to completely trash the kernel if the phone is in some sort of problematic state...
you then need to make sure the phone is not responding to anything...no button presses or combinations give any sort of response...then put the phone on the WALL charger...if the battery has not died yet, you'll get no LED when plugged in...don't worry about it being plugged in, this is NOT charging the phone yet...its just a good gauge for when the battery completely dies...after 10+ hours, the LED should start to blink red...leave it on there...after another couple of hours, it should turn solid red...now you're getting somewhere...
you can either get flashtool ready and try to start flashing back to a 'safe' firmware and/or just the kernel...or leave it on the charger until its solid green...which will remove any threat of the device having enough battery to complete the charge...If you take the phone off when LED is solid red, but still not getting into flashmode properly...its need to charge a little longer, and always use the wall charger for this...it charges much faster...
NEVER try to start the phone in this state, though...you'll end up right back where you started...the brick is happening because of corrupted boot data, which will be on the device until you flash over it...the hoops you have to jump through to fix it is all because of having a sealed battery...thats why it takes so long and is so annoying, but what is causing the problem is actually very simple to fix...you just have to be patient and read all the tutorials in order to get out of it...
You don't need to put your phone to charge for like several hours, that's bull, just flash another ROM. I've done it so it works even with 0 % battery power. So anyone who want's to comment my advice, get lost.

What do you mean by flash another ROM. I don't know much when it comes to this stuff but my phone shut down and i could never recover. When I plug it into the wall charger, the red light comes on but I don't know what to do from here. Could you help PLEASE!
I would recommend attacking a rubber band around the volume down button while connected to the computer where flash tool is already in the flashing mode. This way, it will immediately flash as soon as it can.

I can not download a flash tool program to my computer so how will it go into flashing mode. Sorry i'm not very good with this kind of stuff. I know it's frustrating. If you could give me detailed instructions, that would be greatly appreciated.
Ok, so i finally downloaded flashtool but my computer doesn't detect my phone when I plug it in. When I search for devices, my xperia ion is not in the list. Please HELP!!!!
@Shortie71
In order to even contemplate flashing, you NEED i repeat NEED flashtool.
http://www.flashtool.net/download.php
You MUST download it to flash anything onto your phone
The issue you are having is a drivers issue.
My recommendation is to ask in the MAIN question and answers thread about where and how to get drivers since your phone is already soft bricked (installing sony pc companion and inserting phone will therefore not work)
Then, you can properly flash after you have the proper drivers

After the led turns green, should ı use pc companion, update service or flashtool?

You can follow 2 methods.
Easy but time consuming method:
Connect your phone to charger and wait untill it automatically reboot. The flash ftf file. (It may take 10-15 hours or more to reboot)
Difficult but fast method.
Dessemble your phone. Remove/disconnect battery cable from your phone. Reconnect it. Connect it to flashtool as fast as you can and flash ftf file.

I recently flashed CM9 to my phone, but now i want to move on to JB, but for some reason i can not get into flash mode to write a different FTF.
When i I try to get into flash mode, I power the device off, hold the back button, and insert the USB cable. The LED on top flickers green then the screen comes on the the charging screen.
The same happens when I try to use fastboot except blue light flickers.
I have tried diferent computers, cables and OS's im not sure what else to try.
Download flashtool and install the drivers for your phone then leave your phone and enable unknown sources and enable usb debugging then open flashtool then press flash icon and select fastboot mode then plug your phone in then select reboot into fastboot mode via adb

I ran the driver utility and even when I send reboot bootloader via adb, the LED only flickers blue for a moment, then it boots to CWM.
I didn't think the drivers on the computer would change if the phone goes into flash mode or not though.
Default Cant Get To FastBoot or Flash Mode
You would need to be in flashmode (green light) to install a stock FTF not fastboot mode has suggested above. Have you tried flashing another version of CM9 with your phone via cwm and then trying from there see if the problem is not your rom.If not it could be a driver issue.

(1) Have you installed other roms before your problem started did this only start after installing CM9
(2) Have you flashed any other kernels before CM9 or was CM9 your first rom/kernel flash
Noticed on your first post you wrote that you hold the back button then attached the usb did you do this when flashtool said or before, you need to connect the usb exactly when flashtool tells you to like below step 5
(1) How to flash a stock .ftf Rom
(2) load & place .ftf rom in Windows/flashtool/firmware folder
(3) Open flashtool press lightening icon press flashmode
(4) Select your .ftf you placed in flashtool /firmware folder earlier
(5) Wait! Flashtool will tell you to connect your phone!
(6) Press & hold back button while connecting phone to PC green light will come on.
(7) Wait while flashtool starts flashing your stock rom. When finished it will tell you to reboot
(8) Finished unplug switch your phone on done!
Sorry if you already do it like this but some people forget and connect the usb too early Also I would recommend downloading a different version of flashtool some people have managed to get there phone working by using a older version of flashtool:good:

(1) yes, i have installed several roms before CM9 and i was always able to enter flash mode.
(2)I have tried doom kernel and several other kernels as well
I have waited till flash tool prompts, but IIRC id didn't matter in the past, flashtool would see what mode it was in and proceed.
Thank you for the descriptive reply.

I just tried versions 7 and 8, it doesn't seem to help.
I feel like this is something wrong with my phone though, I remember the phone being able to go into fast boot and flash mode at any time, as long as the computer was on. It is really weird how it flashes the color on the LED.

I so this quote on another thread similar problem to yours this is what he did:
Quote: Funny thing though is that in order to get into either mode, I have to remove the battery while it is plugged in and then hold down the corresponding key while inserting the battery and the corresponding light will then light up. That seems to be the only way to get into the modes. And sometimes this does't work, but it seems to work more than not.
This guy did this to get into fastboot and flashmode worth a try?

no luck... The light only blinks then goes into charging mode...
Edit:Is there a test point or something that would force the phone into one of these modes?

I read this for another phone and it is a shot in the dark, but if the boot block were zeroed out, it forces it into fastboot. If this can possibly work, what block device is the boot partition?
I will not bee too disappointed if the phone is bricked.

Hi guys!
I have Sony Xperia Arc S.
Is it possible to put it in a Flashmode without a "Back" button? My BackButton is broken, I think it is a road-wire on the button's board.
BTW Fastboot mode working fine.
Hey guys , my xperia m ( single sim ) is stuck on the sony logo whenever i try to boot it up.
I rooted my phone many months and it was perfect till this morning and then suddenly it got stuck at the sony logo.
Ive tried to fix it via the pc companion but it doesnt detect it . Now the battery has also run out so when i try to charge it , it shows the led for charging but then the sony logo comes up on its on and stays stuck there. Please help =(
That is a simple soft-brick/bootloop (depending on who you ask, I'd say bootloop).
Charge the phone for a couple of hours and then flash stock firmware with flashtool. To do this you will need to download the stock firmware ftf (these can ALL be found in the general section, don't ask for links) and also flashtool (http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php). Move the ftf to the firmware folder to where you extracted flashtool to (the C: is the best bet).
Once you have both of those things and your phone has charge in it open flashtool. Then click on the lightning bolt icon and then flashmode. Select the firmware you have downloaded.
UNTICK Wipe cache and data.
Click flash.
Wait for flashtool to tell you to connect your phone in flashmode (do this by holding volume down (I think) while the phone is off and you are connecting the USB cable).
Wait for the firmware to finish flashing.
If you get an error saying that loader.sin has finished processing with errors open the ftf with WinRar (or something similar) and delete the loader.sin file and make sure that you save the changes to the ftf.
If you are still stuck on the Sony logo after flashing, remove your battery and then put it back in and try to turn on the device again. If you are still stuck on the Sony logo after that you will have to wipe the cache and data with flashtool.
Try sony pc companian support

I read about the flashing thing on other sites aswell but what i was worried about was the fact that since pc companion isnt dectecting my phone will the flash be able to go through considering the fact that since pc companion isnt dectecting it even the flash tool might not?

Flashtool will definitely detect it, don't worry. PC Companion needs the phone to actually be booted to be able to detect it, whereas flashtool only needs the phone to be in either fastboot mode or flash mode to detect it. Both of these modes are initiated by the user when they are plugging in the USB cable and holding the respective volume button and the phone is off.

Thank you for helping me just btw
I know this'll annoy you a bit but the version that i have to flash it with is the stock one? Because i searched on the internet and some are with the 4.3 one and some are 4.2.2 so im a bit confused. Sorry im kind of a noob at this T_T
And flashtool first says that my phone is connected with usb debugging on then says phone is disconnected when its not :/

Any stock firmware to the device will work, so it can be any of the 4.1.2 variants or and of the 4.3 variants (4.2 is for dual SIM). And don't worry about being a noob, all of us were at one point or another.

When you are flashing a firmware be sure to keep the cable firmly connected throughout the entire process (use a different cable if the one you already have is a bit loose) and don't mess with the phone at all. Can you post the whole log you got from flashtool? Either in text form or through a screenshot?
