[Q] E4GT notification light perpetually on - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Recently my red LED has been staying on. Even when the phone is turned off it will be on so this is not a software bug. For some reason it isn't always at full brightness and sometimes fades in and out, but doesn't blink.
This is definitely hurting my battery usage, and just plain annoying so I'd really appreciate some help.
Thanks!

Never heard if this problem. Try throwing your phone out a window no but seriously how long has it been doing this?

Might need a little more information. Are you running a custom rom? I could recommend removing the checkmark for pulse notification light in display settings if available. Might help.

I'm running the stock ROM. But like I said, it even does it when the phone is off.

It's been doing it for a day or two.

Hmm well the red light comes on when the phone is charging. Is there any type of debris in your USB port? Just throwing out ideas. You could also try flashing a different rom and see if it does the same thing.

Perhaps. I dropped it in the sink under running water the other day and I don't think it got very wet but I put it in rice just to be safe. I'll flash a ROM if nothing else works.

That sounds like the reason why honestly. Even a couple drops can mess things up and cause issues. Right now it might just be that red notification light but more serious issues down the road. At least from my experience with water damage so YMMV.

You shouldn't have left that out! I was about to go research for you because I thought there's a possibility it could happen to me,until you mentioned water, lol. Sometimes rice is not enough specially when it got wet while it was on. Something must've short circuited.

So you think If I took it apart and checked/re-soldered the LED it would be fixed?

Don't bother, eventually it will go away not if you have a back up phone leave it in the rice a bit longer if not just let it be for now....unless you wanna take it apart

Cleaning the usb port may fix this problem

Wasup Josh what ever happened with your first opsa daisy??
I actually got my setup running. It worked great on GB notso much on the ICS superbricks though.

I don't think there's a point in opening it up to solder anything as nothing is cracked or lose solder joints, like AJC9000 said maybe leave it on rice a little longer or maybe it will eventually go away. Good luck I hope nothing is permanently damaged.

Moist Epic, Power button broken

Epic got a little drizzle lastnight. Noticed this am that power button is unresponsive. Moisture indicator on Batt is def red.
Everything else works fine. Think it will come around soon? It has worked a few times today.
I did get insurance last time around. Is that a pretty easy swap?
Stick with Epic or go for something newer? Thanks...

You might get lucky if you take out the battery and let it dry out overnight. How long ago did you add the insurance? Has it been 30 days? I am not sure if the $100 deductable applies to moisture damage or not.

Keep it in a bowl of rice to dry it out. Try it again after a few hours. If not, you will have to pay the $100 if they can't fix it.

Tried that initially, then worried I couldn't turn it on! After a wait I did get it to turn on.
Tried quick boot and still no work. But that will give me a chance to reboot recovery for nandroid.
Also using screen off and lock from market to turn off (remap long press search to power off). Sliding open keyboard to turn on.
Yeah... it's been a long time since I got insurance.

Flying all day today... maybe some dry air will help.

Update...
Seems to be working better than half the time now. Wasn't looking forward to the $100 water fee. Also noticed a hairline crack on lower right side of display housing...looks like maybe a stress area from the underside hinge slots.
So is there another water detector? I only see the one on battery. Seems like maybe I could get an extra batt b4 this thing gets swapped out.... is behold comming?!

Oh man, the plastic around your screen is your accelerometer according to what a Sprint tech told me. I have had insurance since day 1. My touchscreen went bad and at first they weren't going to fix mine at all because I had a crack in that plastic around my screen. I had to do some smooth talking and finally he replaced my screen and some other things as well

wet epic 4g!!!

my epic 4g got wet to day just a good splash from the pool. i have it in rice. i tried booting and i can tell its booted up i even feel the vibration when i move my finger over where the screen look is but the screen is black with waving lines like an old tv. also the notification light doesnt come on and i dont think it was charging when i plugged in the cord. i see no red or pink in the battery compartment so i dont think the water really got in to much any help would be greatly appreciated.
Your screen is shorted out. AKA, expired, dead, deceased, zombified, or passed on. No coming back from the grave.

sorry bro you were wrong its working now just don't have charging capability and a little problem reading the sd card. you really should know what your talking about before you give someone such extreme diagnosis. and for the charging problem i bet leaving it in the rice overnight will clear it right up.
So your screen had wavy lines, but now it works and your sd card slot is having issues along with no charging capability? Between both of those, I would wonder how much longer my phone would last.

Pouring salt water on mine has not only allowed it to run cooler throughout the day but also allowed me to run at 2.8ghz. Thanks!

I prefer to dunk it in water, much better at cooling :good:
Salt water didn't work well for me. I used distilled water with ice. Works very well; plus it is cleaner

Guys.. I did what you guys suggested, but my phone didn't perform any better.
I guess the overheating problem is solved because the phone doesn't even turn on anymore!
What do I do now? /:
.. lol.
I went straight to Antifreeze to help with heat soak..
On a serious note. After an Hour of HEAVY use i can feel my Hot phone through my Otterbox Commuter.. Doesnt scare me. Ive had my HTC Sensation over 130* F and it still held up...
Will distilled/deionized water actually damage the phone? Serious q.

Short answer is no. It is however easy to taint the water if not in a closed loop. This also assumes there is no aluminum and copper mixing.
Gotta love home made water cooling gone wrong.... Dun dun dunnnnn!

[Q] Black screen is all red

Looking if you all think my screen is dead. On my screen where I expect to see black, I see red. It looks like I am missing one of the RGB colors. I didn't drop the phone or get water on it, it was just sitting on my desk and I went to look at it and the colors are all messed up.
I did a visual on the cable and it looks okay, eveything else works.
So is it time for a new phone?
Does it currently have any cracks or chips from any previous incidents? Also have you recently adjusted any settings on your phone (to be vague)

nope, no cracks or chips. My phone is pretty good shape (at least I think). The only thing different is 3 days ago I installed sslauncher to try it out.

Water in Cameras and USB port!!!

Left phone outside last night and woke up with it pouring rain. Needless to say water got in the phone. Both camera are water logged now and the usb port is acting up saying its on charger when its not. Anybody have any ideas to maybe get the water out quicker besides rice in a bowl trick. Thanks

Ouch dude. I'm sorry that happened...I would be crying if that happened to me. It sounds like a lot of water is inside the phone and would take quiet a while for the rice to do its job. Make sure to not keep the device powered on. Remove the battery ASAP and then toss the phone in a bag of rice and let it sit for a few days. You could try setting it in front of a fan too for a few hours/days. I'm surprised the phone didn't short out yet.

Front camera is still shot and usb port damaged i guess it charges but even when i unplug it it still says its charging but battery level keeps going lower not higher. I guess i will give it a few more days then get it repaired if needed. Tried to open the phone myself and got every screw out but the one on the side and just my luck it stripped so needless to say I couldn't get the back off without breaking it...go figure!!!!

Keeping the phone powered on and trying to charge it was by far the worst thing to do. You should have removed the battery right when you got it from outside and put it into rice or let it air-dry for a long time. Obviously it's too late now but for the future just remember that for any of your electronics.
Sucks about the stripped screw. Been there done that lots of times. Those kinds of screws require a really good screwdriver.
