Epic got a little drizzle lastnight. Noticed this am that power button is unresponsive. Moisture indicator on Batt is def red.
Everything else works fine. Think it will come around soon? It has worked a few times today.
I did get insurance last time around. Is that a pretty easy swap?
Stick with Epic or go for something newer? Thanks...

You might get lucky if you take out the battery and let it dry out overnight. How long ago did you add the insurance? Has it been 30 days? I am not sure if the $100 deductable applies to moisture damage or not.

Keep it in a bowl of rice to dry it out. Try it again after a few hours. If not, you will have to pay the $100 if they can't fix it.

Tried that initially, then worried I couldn't turn it on! After a wait I did get it to turn on.
Tried quick boot and still no work. But that will give me a chance to reboot recovery for nandroid.
Also using screen off and lock from market to turn off (remap long press search to power off). Sliding open keyboard to turn on.
Yeah... it's been a long time since I got insurance.

Seems to be working better than half the time now. Wasn't looking forward to the $100 water fee. Also noticed a hairline crack on lower right side of display housing...looks like maybe a stress area from the underside hinge slots.
So is there another water detector? I only see the one on battery. Seems like maybe I could get an extra batt b4 this thing gets swapped out.... is behold comming?!

Oh man, the plastic around your screen is your accelerometer according to what a Sprint tech told me. I have had insurance since day 1. My touchscreen went bad and at first they weren't going to fix mine at all because I had a crack in that plastic around my screen. I had to do some smooth talking and finally he replaced my screen and some other things as well

y phone fell into a pail with water it was in there about 5 to 10 seconds. i pulled the battery out and used a blow dryer and put the battery back in and the flash came on. is that a good sign? dont know what else to do. did i screw things up by trying to turn it on without letting it dry out all night? i had this happen once before but never saw the flash come on as soon as the battery was put back in. im hoping for some good news because im not paying assurion 100 bucks, ill just upgrade but i still love my epic. thanks guys
I would've left the phone off for a day or so. I dropped mine in the sink once and after a day of waiting and blow drying I powered it up and the soft buttons were blinking and not responding but it eventually cleared itself up. It was weird.

You'd be surprised how durable these phones are. I witnessed my friend drop his in a 10 foot swimming pool. It was in there for atleast 15-20 seconds and it works perfect still. We need someone in the community to conduct water testing along with .... "will it blend?"

Confusious is right.. Remove battery and any protective shell, fill a mayo jar or large McDonalds cup or whatever you have that is larger than your phone with dry rice, then stick your phone in then fill the rest of the way with rice. Let set for like 24 hrs. The rice will absorb ALL the moisture. And then you should be golden.
FYI... You should never turn on an electric devise before it is completely dried out first. And never use hot air on an electronic device. I just assumed those were common sense.
My 1.5 year old stuck my epic in the aquarium it was completely under for at least 1 full min. Before I saw it. And the rice trick worked for mine. Left it in the rice for like 2 days though for good measure.
Hope this helps others in the future.

Put your phone inside rice leave it there for a couple hours the rice helps to absorb the excess liquid it worked for me couple times good luck with your phone

I used silica gel cat litter on my daughter's phone after it spent a few seconds in a warm bubble bath.
Three days later, it worked a ok. Silica gel is that dessicant inside little white bags labelled 'DO NOT EAT'.
Same idea as rice. We had some of the silica gel cat litter on hand, unused of course, so it seemed like a good option.

Yeah I typically remove mine the minute they show any lift from the casing, which is usually pretty early on. The few times I waited longer to remove them I did end up with a sticky spot, drove me insane.
Lol I just took mine off last night. I removed my tpu case and saw it starting to pull up so I just took it off. Had the phone since November

Of course I remove all stickers, for this exact reason, that in a few months down the road, it will look stupid when you remove it.
My phone has lived in various cases since day 1, never noticed it
a little off-topic, but my wifes aunt and uncle always leave the stickers on all there new appliances. They recently bought a couple new flatscreens and refuse to take the stickers off the screens and base of the tvs and it annoys the piss out of me.

The glass on my T989 have had scratches for the last month. It hasn't gotten worse, but I really want to get it fixed, because its starting to really get to me. I'm weighing my options, it seems it would be too costly, and I plan on rather spending money on getting a SG3 at full retail. Should I repair this, and sell it, or sell it as is on craigs list? What would be the most cost effective way? I notice there are OEM original glass replacements on ebay for like 10-15 dollars but don't know how to replace it myself. How much would it be to get a professional to do it? What price would I be able to sell it at on craigslist just to sell it as is? I'm not sure what I should do, any suggestions would help. Theres like 6 hair thin crack lines spread in a circular pattern about 2 cm apart on the top half of the screen. Any suggestions appreciated thanks!
I have never tried it myself but I have heard that replacing the screen on most phones is not too difficult.

I dunno this one seems pretty darn hard. My Hd2 was a b**** since it needed soldering so instead of trying I just sold it
Ive been meaning to post up a tutorial but I did it for myself...it was simple but Replacing the screen on this phone for some scratches is not the best option though as its an expensive screen
Btw the screen and the digitizer are one peice... Or at least very well glued together
Isnt there some type of 'scratch filler' thing that you rub into the scratches?
Try on of these ideas

Are they scratches or cracks? Big difference.
I had a few thin, semi-deep scratches on my screen a while back. I put a dab of white, semi-gritty toothpaste on the scratches themselves, and buffed it into the scratches with a dry towel corner until all residue was gone, then repeated. Did it about 4-5 times and lines were almost entirely buffed out. Can no longer feel lines and can only see when looking extremely close for them. Phone smelled good to boot! Haha!
Cracks... that's a whole another issue.
Best,
AP

sorry bro you were wrong its working now just don't have charging capability and a little problem reading the sd card. you really should know what your talking about before you give someone such extreme diagnosis. and for the charging problem i bet leaving it in the rice overnight will clear it right up.
So your screen had wavy lines, but now it works and your sd card slot is having issues along with no charging capability? Between both of those, I would wonder how much longer my phone would last.

Ouch dude. I'm sorry that happened...I would be crying if that happened to me. It sounds like a lot of water is inside the phone and would take quiet a while for the rice to do its job. Make sure to not keep the device powered on. Remove the battery ASAP and then toss the phone in a bag of rice and let it sit for a few days. You could try setting it in front of a fan too for a few hours/days. I'm surprised the phone didn't short out yet.

Keeping the phone powered on and trying to charge it was by far the worst thing to do. You should have removed the battery right when you got it from outside and put it into rice or let it air-dry for a long time. Obviously it's too late now but for the future just remember that for any of your electronics.
Sucks about the stripped screw. Been there done that lots of times. Those kinds of screws require a really good screwdriver.
