New gingerbread rom - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I'm curious... why hasn't anybody attempted to create a rom or release a stock rom for the new gb base update? The enhancements made seem to be iight.

i think our devs are miles ahead of this release we have ROMS that are far better than what Tmobile just dropped IMHO.. thanks to all devs efforts

Yes. Based on yesterday's GB base or a leaked incomplete ICS base. Not exactly "miles ahead".

Because its gingerbread.

According to THIS article dated May 2nd, only 5% of phones are running ICS. Its not like its widely used yet. We on XDA just get antsy sometimes and WANT IT NOW.

TDJ is planning on updating his GB ROM to the new GB update. Since GB is not the hottest thing, he is taking his time with it

Sticking with GB, I have yet to see a DD ICS Rom that isn't having a lot of issues. There is no source yet, or proper kernel. I'm patient, and until we get Team Kang's work on that, I have my ASUS 300T, so. Lol

Only 5% because majority of the older devices will never get it. Plus I doubt that's the right figure after a month passed by. OTA coming soon too.

i was just surprised given the fact that the gb base is totally stable while the ics one is kinda pieced together so i just assumed that somebody would have made something with it by now. its been out for a lil while. lol

Good things come to those who wait. As long as that new T-Mobile official ics doesn't drop within the next week, I am going to finish up the new LDE rom base for dw v3. When I work on a rom I like to run it so I can identify the issues. So I plan on finishing this up soon

[Q] Sooo... Any update on ACS 1.3?

It's been a few months and 1.2 is STILL the best ROM in my opinion. Just... any new news on the development for 1.3?
John did mention a new kernel would be included with 1.3 but that it wouldn't be Vision Kernel as was expected a while back. Other than that, rjmjr69 (leader of ACS) hinted that 1.3 would be "coming soon" in the 1.2 thread not to long ago, so we shouldn't be waiting much longer. My GUESS (which should be taken with a grain if salt) would be that it's in its testing stages and being prepped for release, hopefully before Oct? We'll see what happens tho, someone on the inside is bound to tip us off with a teaser or something soon.

LOL ... yep , when rjmjr69 posted that , I got my phone ready , but still waiting ... LOL
Yeah, when they are trying to add a new kernel, new tweaks, Hotspot hack, etc it can get tricky. Especially the kernel part. You have to test so many configurations to confirm stability. For all I know, the kernel may not make it in. I will contact some people to try and get more details

It will be based on froyo, iirc, which would mean it'l be outdated at release. They may have considered that...

Thanks, Ceelos! That's what I needed to hear! In my opinion, I think ACS should just "strongly" suggest a good kernel for us to include instead of making one. But, I'm happy with 1.2 at the moment.
I tried the Hurricane ROM and the volume was waaay too loud. I reverted back to ACS 1.2 and I'm happy as a clam.

Just hearing the part about you knowing 2 devs that are working on kernels is a breath of fresh air to me. I've been wondering when new kernels would start to roll out again. I was hoping for an update to Vision and Genocide kernels, especially after the efficiency keyboard patch was released by mkasick. Hope to see some updated, and possibly new, kernels.

They should not include a custom kernel. One of the best thing in 1.2 was the stock kernel. Custom kernels sometimes make apps to FC. I had issues, random reboots, FCs with custom kernel. That why I choose 1.2 because it have a stock kernel, no issues since first install(well in my wife Epic it lost the root).

I have noticed that too, I kinda like the GB ones my self...more stable at the moment, I think anyway...
I'm still running Caulk's EL29. I see way too many issues with the ICS leaks.
I don't want to have to put up with force closes, loss of notification sounds, bad battery life, loss of the ability to move apps to the SD, or any of the other seemingly random bugs that may or may not plague me depending on the phase of the moon or if I had the right amount of toadstool and eye of newt ready when I flashed.

I agree, I don't think we should be wasting our time on ICS until it becomes a final product. I have been tempted to go to another phone because of the lack of development. I personally like running Blazer ROM 4.0, really good ROM.
re
I perfer GB roms more as well. And agree with finding them more stable and better GUI interface. Still running Caulk's EL29 as well. no problems at all with it. But could someone help me with a Kernel issue of trying to find the right kernel that supports BLN?? please and thankyou.
I prefer gb as far as reliability but like the look n feel of ics... Didnt realize gb roms would come to such a halt...

re
I like the blueish look of ICS and the icons but not the feel for the simpleness look of it.. woulda expected a bit more for a vast or anxious release that many people want. some of the added features are interesting as well but should be hard to implement them for GB as well..
Well, here goes my first post.....
I took the plunge tonight. Went from from stock rooted el29 to sfhub's stock rooted fc22.
It seemed a little unstable for me so oc rooted back to el29, installed cwm and used my nandroid backup to restore all my settings.
All in all, it was a good exercise to see all the capabilities of ICS, but i am going to stick with GB until the official roll out.
I am pretty amazed with the development community here!
eric
I've tried just about every leaked ICS build and currently am running sfhub's one-click FC22 but EL29 remains my go-back-to build for guaranteed stability.
I've stopped installing all my apps, mostly because I'm unsure of restoring apps within new builds, so it makes it easier for me to play around with the leaks and learn something new.
Stick with gb. Ics is not a daily drive in my opinion. I have tried them all. Calks el29 is by far the best rom for this phone at the moment.

Everyone has to realize that many of the developers have taken the Gingerbread Roms just about as far as they can.
Also, they're releasing these ICS builds so that they (and we) can learn more about ICS so when the finalized product does arrive from Samsung we'll all be better prepared. They will have a better handle on it from a programming perspective and the end users will already have a better idea on how to handle certain problems as they arise.
Edit: I'm running Calkulin's GB Rom btw

You sure about that? Yeah i wouldn't count on it. The whole "close" thing is almost certainly merely referring to the international models. Carriers still have to take their sweet time bloating it up with their stuff. I'd guess that we'd get it sometime early next year or late q4

Yep some pretty good ROMs out there.. i've been on Blazer for a while now. Gets the job done. It just gives me something to do, escape reality through technology, and some kind of social connection with this badass forum.
Sure wish i could contribute something to the development world though..
Please omit my last post, I can't stand stock ROMs for this device. CM10 = The way to go. just my opinion though
I usually run rooted stock at first then flash a ROM that has things I like in it. I used to be one of those flashaholics back when I had my Evo but not so much any more. So far, I've only flashed 2 ROMs. Rooted my stock when I first got the phone, flashed Blazer ROM 1.3 (updated to 1.6 later), and just last night I flashed AOKP.
I'm really picky when it comes to ROMs. Battery life is huge to me, but I'm a sucker for shiny things like Jelly Bean.
In the past I would stick to ROMs based on the stock ROM, as I felt they had less problems and better battery life. However, CM & JB are hard to leave once you've flashed it. JB just seems right!

Whats not working in CM10,is it daily driver yet?
I been running CM10 as well. Was on blazer Rom for awhile but it's hard going back to TouchWiz after getting a taste of jelly bean.
For me it's good enough as a daily drive but I'm on one of the older builds that had Bluetooth a2dp working although it cause in-call volume control to not work. Currently though on the latest builds, a2dp isn't working.
Other than that, it runs great for most part.
Do these Rom make for a longer battery life? If so what are your battery lifes before/after?

AOSP ICS roms still with support?

Since the AOKP from Times thread got closed at his request, and that CM9 hasn't gotten any updates from what I've seen, are the ones available on XDA the only AOKP and CM9 roms, or are there other builds by other devs on sites like Android Central that are more updated than the two on XDA? I've tried searching but I haven't found anything. I was hoping someone else had found one. I do not want a Touchwiz based rom. Strictly AOKP, CM9, and possibly (if it's still alive somewhere) ParanoidAndroid.

CM9 is getting updated daily, sometimes multiple times a day. Alpha 6 was probably worse than the nightly the day before and the day after it if you ask me. Many people used it because it was marked as an Alpha. The current focus is on getting rolled into the official CM build process and fixing those last remaining bugs and issues. Providing long term testing to a build and labeling it an Alpha/Beta... not so much.
You have 2 avenues for up to date CM9, both you should ask or test to see what works best for you. ShabbyPenguin auto compiles Nightlies and now they are based on Chris41G's source kernels starting 8/02. 7-17 was the last good FF18 repacked one IMO there was a few after that. All in all there have been plenty of stable nightlies that could have worn an Alpha tag.
Chris41G is doing a ton of development both rom and kernel and wrapping up issues does builds as well. His 8/9 was great which brought the 4G problem fixes from the control 12 kernel test. The 8/10 MergeMe build was good as well and came within hours of the previous. Machete (8-14 or 8-15) I have been running until I switched over to AOSP Jelly Bean.
Sbrissen is working a stock AOSP Jelly Bean while PhantomPhreak is working on compiling CM10 from source. Everyone is pitching in on both of those.
Dunno on AOKP so much but the Paranoid port was managed by TCP wasn't it?
CM9 is still going strong. Right now we are getting multiple builds per day. Are you sure you even looked for it? Its in the original development section for this phone.
CM10 is also starting to kick into development too but currently has some bad bugs.

After milestone 6 official aokp was rolled to jb from ics, I'm not sure if they are officially building ics based aokp or not, milestone 6 was pretty much a solid bug free source the only issues left that I have come across were strictly kernel related, so i would consider milestone 6 a stable release, minus it needing a solid kernel which I believe Chris41g has a pretty stable aokp kernel out that can be flashed over the aokp rom. There is a stable release aokp based on milestone 6 on android central called aokp milestone 6 stable release 2. And yes cm9 has nightly builds regularly, and chris41g's builds. Then there's AOSP jb and cm10. I'm waiting for the aokp jb builds to start up

Goo.im going down has lost a bunch of our builds but the latest are still all there:
ShabbyPenguin Goo.im - http://goo.im/devs/Shabbypenguin/E4GT-Nightlies
I would hang out in the IRC and or read threads to see what build is what for chris's but they are located here.
IRC - http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=ICS-DEV-E4GT
Kernel Thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1781939
CM9 Support - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1720771
Goo.im - http://goo.im/devs/chris41g/CM
Chris's Site - http://chris41g.devphone.org/index.php?dir=EpicTouch/CM9/
Some of the later builds have things added in not working yet like the sprint updates is a wip. Machete if its still up on chris's site is probably a good one to go for since I havent kept up in 2 days. Previously nandroid backups were not working but i believe that was fixed by then. 4G bugs have been fixed since 8/10. Storage locations have swapped up closer to proper for CM9/AOSP but weird for Touchwiz and CM9 Alpha. Thats been a focus of development as well.
There was also a new aokp build released on the android central forums as of 8/16. Runs pretty damn good so far with the chris41g kernel.

It's cool. I see where you're coming from. I tend to go quiet when I'm working on things. I don't like to make hype threads or get anyone's hopes up on me releasing something, and never get around to finishing it. So I only make an announcement or say I'm working on something when I'm almost done or am done.
Sucks you abandoned aokp I was hoping you'd dropped the ics version to start the jb version of it. I started on aokp on my og evo, jumped on it on the et4g as soon as TCP started the ports and then when your source builds came out I moved to them, I'm still on your 7/13 build and haven't changed roms since. I guess I'm gonna have to stop being lazy and actually start building my own roms again I've been trying to figure out how the PAD mod works so I can merge it into aokp but there's not much about it anywhere so that's a whole other can o worms I've been trying to nail down. And it makes me :banghead: guess I should start pulling an updated source and find someones vendor tree to merge and build my own aokp once I get bored with trying to get the PAD working(or figure it out since I'm slightly ocd and don't usually give up easily, I decide I want something and I'm like a pitbull with a tbone :what: )

Man I saw that ish while I was in bed and it made me so mad I wanted to get up and go hit the heavy bag I was browsing AC the other night looking at what "roms" were available, and all I kept seeing were ppl encouraging the trolls to come to xda with links saying "take your drama here http://xda-developers.com made me so mad I wanted to throw my damn phone. We already have enough trolls and noobs who don't read and want someone to babysit them, we don't need people encouraging dumbasses to come here just to start drama :what::banghead:

Most stable ics rom with touchwiz

I am new to the galaxy s2 after coming from a sensation. I don't see a clear cut winner on this forum like in the sensation forum, I tried JediMindTrick and it seemed a little buggy after freezing sometimes. Can anyone recommend me another stable ics with tw rom?
Clones | drones, Jedi knight

Darkside evolution v8. These pmtr3 roms are okay but the theming is ridiculous. Evo8 keeps it stock and smooth. Its always my go to when I get tired of random reboots and sleeps of death. Trust me Evolution v8 is where its at for stability, best battery life, all while keeping that stock touchwiz look. There's a reason why its the most popular rom made so far for the t989 with over 1 million thread views. The rom is still available for download on TDJs sourceforge. Just Google thederekjay source forge. It will come up.

ptmr3 has a zip to flash back to stock on JK3, just saying.
my 2 cents
I stay with jedi mind trik 7 (I'm to lazy to update ) and after about 3 weeks I haven't had any problem.
I just added the tw calendar.
I moved from stock because of skype, that didn't work properly on stock ICS, but I have to say that this rom is really smooth and nice, therefore I think you should try to reinstall again everything before move to another distribution.
A tip, I reinstalled all app, instead of using titanium or similar, it's cleaner and in the end not so long with the market.
I suggest also to have some fun with google now
Dark side is definitely the hands down winner in TW roms. Besides, Jedi and all those other ptmr roms borrow heavily from tdj. Just saying.

Afraid I have to agree. My warranty replacement S2 came yesterday, preloaded with 4.04. I think I'm just staying here for a while. At least until I get my upgrade next month.
I had been on Paradox for probably 6 months and never really had many issues with the gingerbread roms, most are very stable. I tried jmt and sith as well as Beastmade, in a few different versions and flavors and they were ALL buggy. Most are putting way more time into themeing than into to trouble shooting. Read the posts...most issues are blamed on a bad flash or you used the wrong recovery method...NEVER the rom. To be fair I never got to try a Darkside rom as my phone went back under warranty... supposedly developed the bad power button thing and started boot looping and freaking out. I'm still not sure it wasn't rom related as the way it started it had nothing to do with the power button...that was the biproduct of a really unstable Sith rom.
All that said, if my stock 4.04 starts to lag and bog down with background bloatware, like my original s2 did that sent me here in the first place, then I will probably be back to flashing...or on to the S3.

Exactly why I haven't even touched any if these new roms. No offense to any devs but our trusty ol' developers are almost all gone. As soon as tdj decided to leave all these new "devs" started flooding in. Trust me and let's end this post god dammit. If you want a WELL KNOWN, trusty, speedy, stable rom that keeps its stock look from a WELL KNOWN TRUSTED DEVELOPER, look no further than darkside evolution v8. The rom is perfect. No bugs I can think of, no nothing wrong with it whatsoever. God dammit I miss the Derek Jay. This place had to go and run him off. In all honesty I don't even want this phone anymore now that development is dead to me. Official cm9 twitches and flickers now and there's no more TDJ. The only developers that I trust on this thing now are eugene373 and whitehawkx. Forget the rest.

I'm still running v7 based on 4.0.3. It's literally the perfect ROM for me. If 8 is as good or better, I'm going to flash that this weekend... I'm not one whose particularly a flash happy user. I really have not been impressed with what I've read about the other ROMs. I wish tdj was still here for this device.

Was over on the Sith thread...another phone bit the dust! Of course the post just gets ignored. Same issues I had. Not saying it's just his ROM but something weird is going on. Never saw some many people having power button, boot loop, flashing on and off, etc.

Do you have the developer landing page for the v8 rom? I am currently on koodo because i actually like tw and love its speed. I dont like is that GPS takes for ever to lock. I am not a flash happy guy either i want something stable and fast.
Don't want to sound like a hater but as far development goes good luck pfinding anything close to revolution or viper s in terms of quality. Now with that being said I like Darthstalker.

Unfortunately I don't, yet. That's my goal before the weekend is over though.
