I have noticed that too, I kinda like the GB ones my self...more stable at the moment, I think anyway...
I'm still running Caulk's EL29. I see way too many issues with the ICS leaks.
I don't want to have to put up with force closes, loss of notification sounds, bad battery life, loss of the ability to move apps to the SD, or any of the other seemingly random bugs that may or may not plague me depending on the phase of the moon or if I had the right amount of toadstool and eye of newt ready when I flashed.

I agree, I don't think we should be wasting our time on ICS until it becomes a final product. I have been tempted to go to another phone because of the lack of development. I personally like running Blazer ROM 4.0, really good ROM.
re
I perfer GB roms more as well. And agree with finding them more stable and better GUI interface. Still running Caulk's EL29 as well. no problems at all with it. But could someone help me with a Kernel issue of trying to find the right kernel that supports BLN?? please and thankyou.
I prefer gb as far as reliability but like the look n feel of ics... Didnt realize gb roms would come to such a halt...

re
I like the blueish look of ICS and the icons but not the feel for the simpleness look of it.. woulda expected a bit more for a vast or anxious release that many people want. some of the added features are interesting as well but should be hard to implement them for GB as well..
Well, here goes my first post.....
I took the plunge tonight. Went from from stock rooted el29 to sfhub's stock rooted fc22.
It seemed a little unstable for me so oc rooted back to el29, installed cwm and used my nandroid backup to restore all my settings.
All in all, it was a good exercise to see all the capabilities of ICS, but i am going to stick with GB until the official roll out.
I am pretty amazed with the development community here!
eric
I've tried just about every leaked ICS build and currently am running sfhub's one-click FC22 but EL29 remains my go-back-to build for guaranteed stability.
I've stopped installing all my apps, mostly because I'm unsure of restoring apps within new builds, so it makes it easier for me to play around with the leaks and learn something new.
Stick with gb. Ics is not a daily drive in my opinion. I have tried them all. Calks el29 is by far the best rom for this phone at the moment.

Everyone has to realize that many of the developers have taken the Gingerbread Roms just about as far as they can.
Also, they're releasing these ICS builds so that they (and we) can learn more about ICS so when the finalized product does arrive from Samsung we'll all be better prepared. They will have a better handle on it from a programming perspective and the end users will already have a better idea on how to handle certain problems as they arise.
Edit: I'm running Calkulin's GB Rom btw

Are there any stable e4gt roms that are better than stock ek02 with everything working cuz battery life is a poor trade off for working features in my opinion. Example if wimax is not working or tether to get more battery life whats the point

I am also not sure how to approach this. There are only a few roms that don't support wimax.. I suggest calkulins. It's my go to rom. I've heard starburst is pretty good too.. But in the future, please try to read a bit. maybe look at the roms that have a lot of view and/or comments. The OP of each thread will tell you just about everything you need to know.
IMO, there is no more stable custom ROM right now then UnNamed. If I wasn't so flash happy, I would stay with that but I'm changing ROMs every 2-3 days now...
But anyway, yeah UnNamed is the best ROM as far as stability is concerned.
Oh and I got over a day of moderate use from it. Don't believe me though, try it out!

+1 for Calkulin's roms. Good battery life, stable, so far I have not encountered any issues.
I've been extremely pleased with Calkulin's ROM. I have tried unnamed (which I also like) but I prefer the 5 icon dock and 5x5 app drawer and undervolt/underclock scripts in Calkulin's.

MJHawaii is right.. UnNamed is a hell of a rom especially with a few tweaks added in. I am quite sure you will not find anyone unhappy with it. Also like mentioned before there is a whole development section of great roms. Just make sure when you try them all you do not restore data and flash all of them cleanly and not on top of each other.
For battery life on this phone may I recommend 200-800 since your phone can clearly handle it...
no offence, but either dont flash and stay on stock or there is always the good ol flip phones!

Got to agree with the previous poster that suggested you just stay on stock. I'd prefer not having to see posts/threads like this in the future....

blazer is my daily driver.
i have not tried a single rom that has just flat out been unstable or unusable though; i steer clear of early/experimental builds, bust most of the roms in the dev section for this phone are pretty complete and comprehensive.
this is my first android device and initially i had trouble just rooting the thing, but thanks to xda's dev section my first flash was a piece of cake and i've had no issues or major complaints in 3 months of jumping rom to rom.
Just an observation. But your avatar shows you have at&t, shouldn't you be in a different section? This forum is for the Samsung epic 4g touch. Maybe thats why the roms aren't working. Unless you just havent updated your profile. (Im guilty of that as well)
Was looking for some pointers on a STABLE ROM
Stability is the number one item of importance, rather than ICS or GB, but ICS is preferred for the camera options..
Currently the ET4G is at the stock OTA ICS build, but it is not even activated at this point.
My Step Daughter is using my EVO 4G, and as I upgraded my GF to the SGS3, I want to drop the EVO and move her to the ET4G.
No real rush, I told her it would be a week or two, I am just looking for a build that is super stable, as I wont get much chance to update and/or modify the build once I get it fully setup and give it to her.
Think I am best off using the rooted version of the Stock ICS FF18 ROM, with a modded kernel and just leaving it at that point?
Sadly, I have spent far to much time in the Epic section for my phone, and haven't had a chance to sort through all the builds here.
No need for extra themes, or fancy mods, just basic ICS will suffice, she couldn't tell the difference anyways.
I tried both Blazer and Calk's GB ROM, but both had stability issues here and there, and I was hoping for some tips to use with a new ICS build, now that the OTA is out.
Any advice for better stability than:
Stock ICS build
CWM recovery
Modded Kernel (AGAT's ?)
and just let it go at that?
Well for ICS I'm running M'ICS 1.1 its very stable. Also using agat 0.2.1 dirty kernel (safe) for extra speed and battery life. As for GB, calkulin or blazer roms are very stable as well. I got good battery life on both. Just make sure you read up and ask questions if you not sure. Happy flashing.

Been a big fan of Calk's for a long time, and tried both before my GF got her SGS3, just seemed to have a few more issues with Blazer, but most was with Facebook, and I feel it may have been a FB app issue, and I also think I am gonna stay with the EL29 modem, as the newer ones didnt seem to work as well.
I may just keep both on the internal SD, and create a nand backup of both one I get the the phone fully setup, and let her try both for a week or two and see what works best for her in the Baltimore area.
Yeah the EL29 modern works good for me in the dmv area.. I also been having success with ff18 in dc

You sure about that? Yeah i wouldn't count on it. The whole "close" thing is almost certainly merely referring to the international models. Carriers still have to take their sweet time bloating it up with their stuff. I'd guess that we'd get it sometime early next year or late q4

Yep some pretty good ROMs out there.. i've been on Blazer for a while now. Gets the job done. It just gives me something to do, escape reality through technology, and some kind of social connection with this badass forum.
Sure wish i could contribute something to the development world though..
Please omit my last post, I can't stand stock ROMs for this device. CM10 = The way to go. just my opinion though
I usually run rooted stock at first then flash a ROM that has things I like in it. I used to be one of those flashaholics back when I had my Evo but not so much any more. So far, I've only flashed 2 ROMs. Rooted my stock when I first got the phone, flashed Blazer ROM 1.3 (updated to 1.6 later), and just last night I flashed AOKP.
I'm really picky when it comes to ROMs. Battery life is huge to me, but I'm a sucker for shiny things like Jelly Bean.
In the past I would stick to ROMs based on the stock ROM, as I felt they had less problems and better battery life. However, CM & JB are hard to leave once you've flashed it. JB just seems right!

Whats not working in CM10,is it daily driver yet?
I been running CM10 as well. Was on blazer Rom for awhile but it's hard going back to TouchWiz after getting a taste of jelly bean.
For me it's good enough as a daily drive but I'm on one of the older builds that had Bluetooth a2dp working although it cause in-call volume control to not work. Currently though on the latest builds, a2dp isn't working.
Other than that, it runs great for most part.
Do these Rom make for a longer battery life? If so what are your battery lifes before/after?

Try OC EL29, you'll get no bugs, and a better battery life than on ICS.
Still had trouble with ics and el 29. I tried just running GB but that message never goes away. Its always trying to download and killing my battery and connection. I never had this niche trouble with my evo 4g

The devs did a great job with the ROMs but its not the same like gingerbread since Samsung and sprint screwed our ICS, every custom ROM I tryed still has that nasty super fast scroll, it has that glitchy freezing up a bit also when scrolling. OP if you want ICS you will need to get on an aosp ROM or cm9 and aokp that's the closest and smoothness of ICS you will get or you could just roll back to gingerbread.
Another thing is there's a lot of folks that would claim how smooth these ICS custom ROMs are but in reality it isn't its either you guys are blind or your just to into and to used to ICS that it blended in you guys soul.every time I roll back to gingerbread I see a huge difference in smoothness and butter heck even these jellybean aosp and cm10 ROMs are way smoother then the ICS that Samsung and sprint gave us.

One piece of advice: Go get sfhub's stock ek02 or eg30 auto package. Start from the beginning and go back and flash an ICS ROM. That usually fixes any bugs. :good:
I don't know about the other ICS ROMs but I have tried CM9 and Blu Kuban and they come as close to perfection as we could've gotten without source kernel. Haven't fully tried ICS since just because I prefer the better battery life of GB though.
I'm on cm10 and the battery is much better than anything I got in ICS, and I've tried half the ROMs out there. Blue kuban, codename, cm9, aokp, etc. The cm10 ROM is freaking amazing. Honestly, try it. You won't regret it

Look, if you are doing everything right as you say, and are having problems that are making your phone "hell," the problem is likely your device itself. I have personally never had issues with any ICS builds, from the leaks, to the OTAs, to CM9. And the latest FH23 leak gives me excellent battery life. Unfortunately, since you didn't give any more information to go on than the fact that you phone has been hell, I have no further advice to give you then to get your phone replaced. Again, I have had no issues with ICS. Running much smoother than GB.

First thing, have you updated profile and PRL? If so, have you tried using the ODIN one-click to go back to EL29 ROM, kernel, and modem? Let's start there. If you are having no issues using EL29 as I suggested, we can further explore this being an ICS-related issue. Otherwise, it could very well be Sprint. If that works fine, use ODIN to install the latest FH23 leaked ROM, kernel, and modem. Forget flashing through recovery for now, and only use the one-clicks that erase user data. Also, do you have these issues everywhere you go, or is this localized to a particular area? To put it simply, for 2 phones to be having an identical problem (given a device that is not really known for having problems) is very strange, which leads me to blame Sprint in your particular area. But if you say that you did not have these issues on GB, let's explore that further. ODIN EL29 and report back.

I'm running Kobridge's FI25 ROM. It's pretty stock-ish, fluid and overall great. Battery is nice as well. I'd give that a look and try.
Just go to settings and about phone and update firmware or android. The latest official ics build is fh13 so if he is on gb you will have to update to ff18 then fh13 or you can download a one click and use Odin to update. Depends if you want it rooted or not. If he is rooted now and has removed stock apps you will have to use a bone click option or revert back to stock first. You can look up qbking77 on YouTube and every custom rom he pretty much has a video for along with how to get the stock ota updates. To get the stock ics look after updating to the ics build go to Sprint id to change to the stock look or download a launcher like nova launcher or apex or whatever you prefer. If you want a stock ics rom with root you would want an aosp rom like cyanogenmod beta 1. Go to the original development thread.

I have had no issues at all with the ics ota updates but a lot of people have claimed issues. I did a factory reset and wiped cache after the updates and never had issues with battery or blue tooth or whatever else people complain about. I would say let her try ics for a week and see for herself. You can always go back to gb if she doesn't like it. I love cm9 beta 1 I just have some data issues sometimes but it's still being developed so I'm sure the minor issues the rom has are being worked on as we speak. There is also tons of leaks for ics the latest released leak is fi25. And I think it's supposed to be the last leak for ics until jelly bean is leaked.

Check this thread [Oficial OTA Repository] . I post all official OTA links. Download them all in order them copy paste them in SD card. Go to recovery and flash them in the right order.
Note: You must be pure stock and use stock recovery.
Instructions just in case:
1. You don't need to rename zip.
2. Copy to SD Card not Internal.
3. You most be full stock. (no root, no custom kernel etc.) these are official OTA zips directly from Google servers.

With the Nexus S 4G I had, obviously a Google phone, they'd have various ICS and JB roms running smoothly. But for this device, Samsung/Sprint is holding it back from its potential.
I just can't say enough good things about Re-Calked ROM. Battery life and smoothness are top notch and there are tons of mods for theming purposes, including a transparent status bar mod.
Offically, FH13 is the way to go.
Leak-wise I think I'm going to try this combo next:
FI03 ROM
FI03 Repacked Kernel
FI25 Modem
...and see what happens. Love the signal on FI25 but hate that so many other features were either removed or changed. Also hate Connection Optimizer on FI03 but I can just leave it off.

Atrue we are a little bit behind and they treat us like step children, I'll give you that.... but have you not met the devs around here?
I think the dev and user support shown in E4gt's slice of paradise far outweighs official support at arms length
( and I've tried three jb builds, all of them daily-able)
I do see your point though.. a little official love couldn't hurt.
What I meant by no love is that ics is something I've been running so smooth since my HTC Sensation. The epic 4G touch has the same processor as the gti9100 yet I feel like sprint or Samsung is holding back. All the s2s I see are on gingerbread with people complaining about bugs and issues in official builds I find that unacceptable. But I don't have this device so idk how bad it is. I had a great ics experience both Sammy and aosp on international s2. The sprint variant seems like a killer device that just needs killer software to go with It.
Ps. thanks for everyone's input.. Putbuee on the latest ics leak odexed version with matching kernel and modem and the phone is flying!

What garwynn says is correct.
My g/f likes to stay on official releases, so she's on FH13. It was a HUGE improvement over the piece of crap that was FF18, so I would recommend that one.
Myself, I'm using stock rooted FI03 with stock FI03 kernel and FI03 modem. I'm pretty happy with this setup, and I probably won't be jumping to another ROM until JB is more stabilized.

Why do people make statements like that? " Huge piece of ..."etc blah..?
I used several ff18 builds with zero issues .. my woman's been on it for 2 months with zero issues as well.
So it was bad how exactly?
Not trying to be an ass . I've just never understood these blanket statements about an entire build being bad vs the possibility of one flash being bad...
Edit: for clarity, I'm not saying i dislike fh or fi builds either... I'm just saying I havent had a major issue with any build since fc27(I think)
I'm using stock rooted FI25 with the Agat 5.4 kernel and the Pegasusq governor. Works great for me! There are a lot of great custom ROMs out with CM9 being one of my favs but the bugs make me stick with stock.
