[Q] Regarding r800a - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, i've recently bought a xperia play r800a unlocked, i had some android phones before so i want to know how to rOot this phone, and see if there's a custom room for this model, but i cant seem to find a specific guide or custom roms for my phone, it is locked? r800x rooms can be used for this model? is ther any guide for flashing this model?
Thanks

R800x is the CDMA play. You want to look for any gsm roms (r800a/at/i) such as dark forest. Is the bootloader unlocked? To find out the *#*#7378423#*#* in your dialed then go to service info -> configuration. If it says bootloader unclock yes then u can unlock it via the official sony method otherwise you have to pay someone on the forums (there's only a couple people that do it) to do the unlocking process. Once the bootloader is unlocked you have the ability to install kernels and other non stock based roms.
Tons of posts in the dev section and q&a just gotta search.

Thanks for your answer! i've checked and it says Bootloader unlock allowed: Yes, i have one more question, custom r800i rooms on my r800a may affect 3g/hspa connection? will only work with edge?

No they won't affect any 3g just have to put the apn settings in manually for your carrier

Sorry for being repetitive, but the r800i firmware does not change the 3g frequencies? in my country only works 850mhz and r800i works on 900, 2100...

[Q] R800a running R800at fw?

Hi I have a Canada Rogers R800a running R800i firmware bootloader unlocked with doomloards kernel on AT&T USA network and was wondering if when someone releases the official R800at firmware will I be able to flash it to my R800a because some of the stock apps I can use like the uverse app.
Thanks,

Honestly, it's anyone's guess, but it's likely as long as you are able to unlock the bootloader.
how did you do it
i was on the idea that the bootloader of the r800a from rogers was not unlockable du to rogers decision to this day i dint manage to unlocked it and i flash a lot of phone like the nexus i cant put my xperia in fastboot mode
If and when the r800at firmware is made into a .ftf, it's very likely you will be able to use it on your r800a because they're both GSM. It's hard to know if all the stock apps will work correctly since some may have problematic DRM though
Well, it's available. I'm running the R800a 2.3.4 FW on my R800at so I'm pretty sure you can run the R800at FW on the R800a. The thing is, you will be giving up a lot of extra features (screenshot, tethering, etc).

[Q] Flashing CDMA ROMs on R800x with operator different from Verizon

Hello, guys. I have one question about flashing any custom ROM on R800x with any other operator, not Verizon. Posted this question in [GUIDE] R800x owners - You got Custom ROM questions? I've got Answers! thread, bu no luck. So decided to try creating a new thread.
I'm from Ukraine, R800x was brought to me from USA this summer. I've unlocked my bootloader month ago, then I decided to use my R800x with our local operator Intertelecom. I had Paranoid Android installed in that time and tech support of Intertelecom had to roll back to stock firmware to get data and phone working, because Paranoid doesn't support it from the box. I have used phone for a couple of days, but then flashed MIUI from this topic and all my phone stuff (EvDO registration, phone number and all that CDMA stuff) gone because of flashing stock ftf with FlashTool.
So the question is: can i flash custom rom without erasing that CDMA network data? It depends on if I flash stock ftf or not? Different wipes in CWM doesn't erase that information? I just don't know where all theese things are written in R800x.
Thanks for any reply.
u need to ask your telco carrier to make the setting OTA for you,
so u can simply dial *228 after flashing ROM to re-config your CDMA setting (this is what i did now) - i'm using R800x verizon in Indonesia with local carrier
custom ROM will remove DIAG mode on the phone, thus manual setting won't work either,

[Q] [ion] flashing firmware

not a question about how to flash but trying to figure out the difference before i flash to the other firmware.
alright so lt28at with at&t has lte and before the lt28i was the lt28h without lte. my questions are:
1) does the lt28i firmware have lte support for at&t? if so, do i have to like copy the apn from my lt28at and apply it to lt28i firmware?
2) what are the differences between the lt28at and lt28i firmware other than the at&t bloatware?

LT28at has LTE
LT28i has LTE
LT28h does not have LTE
LT28i is generic unbranded firmware (unless you get the Rogers firmware) that does not have any carrier bloatware on it.
If you flash the LT28i firmware on an LT28at device with AT&T service you will have to manually input the LTE apn once the phone is flashed. APN can be found on the ion wiki page.

Apologies for noob question in advance if this is already answered, but I searched and didn't found the answer.
Is there any difference between LT28at and LT28i except AT&T bloatware. Also my bootloader is locked, can I still flash it successfully to LT28i without causing any hard brick. Soft brick as I understand can be recovered.

Main difference that it is unbranded. Might be some other small differences but they aren't noticeable.
Yes you can flash the lt28i firmware without issue.

Unlock LT28at
Good Day, i have a sony xperia ion LT28at which is locked to at&t.
1) Please if i flash LT28i firmware into my LT28at device, will i be able to use any sim on it that way after flashing it apart from the at&t alone which i was using on it.
2) Am finding it difficult to unlock it, i got code from at&t and also bought code online from sites which when i got the codes they were the same i got from these different sources but when i insert the code in the phone when it prompts for the code. after entering it & i click unlock, it tells me it could not be unlocked. I have contacted at&t and they keep saying they are sure its the correct unlock code. Please anyway forward on this.
Thanks alot

1. No flashing a firmware will not allow you to use a different carrier. You have to sim unlock it first.
2. Not sure what to tell you about that. I got the code from att and it worked fine for me.

Not recognizing SIM card, no IMEI.

I have an unlocked Xperia Play AT&T branded, R800a originally, now reads as R800i. It does not seem to want to read SIM cards and no IMEI number shows up while trying to display it. Some threads have suggested flashing modems or something on it, but all linked threads had files that were no longer available. I was wondering how and if I could fix this.
Default Not recognizing SIM card, no IMEI.
I know this is a couple of day's old thread but have you tried flashing back to Xperia Play AT&T R800a ftf there is a link to one on this thread that is working (Tested Link is working) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1589399.Also when you said it now read's R800i what did you do if anything for it to start reading this?(it looks like you have flashed the wrong ftf:crying: correct me if i'm wrong.

Probably, I remember trying just about everything originally just to get the bootloader unlocked. I'll try some from that link you posted.
I also have an r800a, but I unlocked boatloader though alejandrissimo's testpoint method, since it is the only one that worked with it, but it was a paid method (I don't know if it's still paid), and the IMEI method through Sony webpage doesn't work with our r800a.
Maybe you screwed up the TA by a bad unlock try and need an IMEI replace/fix. Both are also offered as a free (I think) service, just head up to this page http://unlock-bootloader.com/
Hope this helped. If you have doubts just search alejandrissimo in XDA to find he is a well known member here.

[Q] SIM Unlock SGH M919 Outside US which was never activated on Tmobile Network

Hello All,
I got a t-mobile s4 from USA which was paid in full and never activated on any network in USA. I am now trying to use an Airtel Sim Card in India and it shows that its SIM Unlocked. On contacting the T-Mobile support they are saying that they cant provide an unlock code because the device was never activated on their network.
I am stuck because all websites providing unlock codes work on the same precondition that the device was earlier activated in a T-Mobile network. I am also not able to get into service mode and apply the sim unlocking fix as suggested in few posts.
Please provide help and suggest me the options. I am not afraid to shell some more bucks to make it work but i need assurity that the method would work.
Is there a way that i can try which doesnt require t-mobile network at all???
My android version is 4.4.2 and device has been rooted now.
To use service mode to unlock, you need to flash MDL modem first. After unlocking, you should be able to flash the latest modem back retaining the lock.
Have you checked if the region lock away app works?

Regionlockaway apps doesnt work...I am outside USA having no access to the T-Mobile network and was wondering whether the steps suggested by you will allow me to unlock the device from service mode despite having no cellular service?

As far as I know, the service mode unlock disables the carrier check and doesnt require cellular service.
Also, the S4s are also region locked. They get region unlocked when activated and used on the carrier network. So, your phone requires both the sim and region unlock.

Thanks for your response. I am a newbie so just confirming the steps that i need to take to unlock the device:-
a) SInce i am on 4.4.2 with baseband as M919UVUF9B4 i would need to downgrade it to 4.2 stock version using the link you have recommended above.
b) Once i am on the 4.2 version i can then flash MDL modem to sim unlock
c) Then use region lock away tool to region unlock.
d) Upgrade it again to 4.4.2 and use my device freely.
Let me know if i got it right

For the service menu to work, all you need is the MDL modem. You do not need to downgrade everything. You should be able to find a way to flash the modem alone.

Thanks for confirming. However, i am unable to find any thread tutorial which talks about flashing NB4 modem back to MDL on NB4 bootloader. Most of the threads talk about flashing modems which are prior to 4.3 and doesnt serve my purpose as in am on the latest bootloader.
Please help in providing any thread link or steps to perform the flashing.
Thanks Again!
