So i've been experiencing some really slow wifi speeds. On both my Galaxy Nexus's so i know its not just my phone. They are on different ROMs. I have a router that goes to my main router in my work room. And the Router i connect to is in the living room to compensate for the low wifi signal on ICS. I will stand right next to it and run a speedtest but can only achieve 6-15 mbps depending on what server i use. However the one in the work room will do the normal 30mpbs that i expect. My laptop will do the 30mbps on the router in the living room as well as my epic 4g... so im positive it is an issue with the Nexus... but what issue? Does it not like the router? It cant be the wifi radio... because the wifi is just fine on the other router. Any ideas as to what can be done? Or am going to have to go out and buy me a new router? Or would a signal booster be better?
did I stump everyone?

Well...as you like to put it so many times....READ. There are documented issues with wifi on the GNex. All sorts of things from low signal, to data connection, poor voltage handling and so on. I suppose you could choose any reason you like for what is wrong with your phone. Maybe you just got a bad phone. One thing i did see on a google search, (did you?), that led me back to xda was that some people reported changing the wifi signal scanning from "both" to just the freq they were using showed some improvement...YMMV
Good Luck
Thanks for the condescension.

I agree, some people are real dicks on here. If you don't have anything constructive to say or you aren't an admin, then don't say anything.
So what all have you learned about this issue? I have been experiencing this myself but just though it was something I had done.

Nothing thus far, ive reset my router multiple times, i have tried different security settings. And nothing has helped thus far. I may try reflashing the firmware for the router and see if that helps any, if not the only thing i can think of is the fact that the phone doesnt like the two year old router and needs to be replaced.
I think GN wifi issues are mostly linked to the specific router or AP. 30mb sounds pretty darn good. I would probably purchase another one of those. Buy it from somewhere with a good return policy . Just curious what type of router is the one that gets the 30? I only get 18-20 but its pretty consistent.

I have. 30mb line so thats a what I would expect. The main router is. Ubee, I have timewarner so its a internet router as well as a telephone provider. However I think something is wrong with it. Although speeds are fine. Connectivity is off and it will constantly come in and out, I'm also unable to change its settings it has options for 5ghz and 40mhz but every time I try to set it to that it reverts. If I had those options I probably wouldn't need another router.

It could be your area. Try testing in different locations. If it's still slow, then it may be your account.
Sometimes if you use a lot of data, there is some evidence to suggest sprint may throttle you.
The other thing could be your phone. If you have a lot of processes going, even ones that don't use data, it can still affect the phones ability to work properly.
I would try ruling those out and then call Sprint.

There is a thread for this already, a lot of people are having this same problem, including me. It started around November, when before, I would constantly get at least 1500kbps down and up, as both my home and work are less than a block from a tower.
After one day for some reason, I can NEVER get anything above 100kpbs, and it usually doesnt work at all. I have done everything, and sprint, stupidly, thinks that its a hardware problem every time, and since November, they have given me 5 brand new evo's. ALL have the exact same problem. I'm no expert, but 5 brand new phones dont all have the same problem. I have called CS MANY MANY times, and they refuse to check their end, saying every time that "our network is fine".
Whats weird, every friend I have on sprint, their phones are fine, even 3 year old phones. Whats even weirder, my friend with an evo, and the evo's in the sprint store all are fine. But with this thread on here, and a long thread on AF, there seems to be an isolated issue with a lot of people.

Well you can count me in as an isolated issue. My 3G has been fine for like 2 years now, and all of the sudden, I'd say the past month or more, total crap. It's taking me about 5 minutes or more to download a 2mb app update on the market. 4G is still good. I really wish I knew what was going on. I do the same Profile and PRL updates like the OP daily.
Well its definitely not my 3g being "slow". I am just not connecting to it. Qik errors and says I am not connected to 3g. My data status says 1x RTT for my connection. I need to call sprint.
Is there anyway to boost the wifi on this thing. I have 3 tablets (samsung tab 7, Lenovo Ideapad K1, and this) Samsung and Lenovo keeps connection with my home router but this one it disconnects half the time. Kinda frustrating. I assume this also will kill my battery faster than it already does. Any advice?
EDIT:
So I exchanged my tablet and still the replacement has bad wifi. I figure this had to be hardware related so following the procedure here I decided to take it upon myself to figure it out. If youre not comfortable doing this I suggest just keep returning your unit till you get a good one. Note when you remove the first side bezel there's a black sticker over one of the screws. I was able to remove it easily with an exacto knife being careful not to rip it so I can put it back on later. After removing the 3 sides except for the power button side (not necessary) you remove the back off and you end up with this.

I'm not sure which is the wifi antenna or if they work as a pair but I moved both antenna connectors around (I didnt try to remove it cause this might make the connectors loose) and moved the black antenna right on top the camera. Reference all the red arrows. I left the tablet on so I was able to tell if it was making a difference. Eventually got it to get 2 bars just like on my Lenovo Ideapad! Possibly one of the micro coax connetors was not making good contact. These are the same RF connectors on RC receivers so they are a little more susceptible in losing contact specially if they're too lose. So just move them side to side and dont remove or lift them off.
Prior to this I was alternating between no bar and 1. This time it consistently stayed at 2 bars regardless how I moved or where I moved in my room (our router is in another room upstairs). Carefully put the tablet back together and now my connection is stable 2 bars. Finally!
So it does seem like there's some QA issue with these tablets. There's a huge thread in the acertabletforum about this issue and some say to change your connection from DHCP to static but that doesnt make logic sense to me. Some have been able to exhange theirs gotten good replacements.
Anyhow if you have any question, let me know.
I was actually thinking that wifi going out when it's turned off might be on purpose to prolong the crappy battery life.

Not when its turned off. Theres a setting for that to disable wifi when you turn screen off. But thats not what I'm talking about. My wifi disconnects as I'm surfing or downloading from market or a file.
hmm, does it look like it has a weak signal strength or are you sitting at a good connection and it drops all of the sudden?
If it isn't a weak connection, I assume the device is just having a problem with your router settings. Maybe call support to see if they can give you information, but I haven't heard of this issue. What about open networks at coffee shops or the like? Do you have the same issues?
This is my third tablet and this tablet has the best WiFi that I have seen so far, so I don't think it is a problem with the signal strength.
Maybe I have a bad unit but I went to Bestbuy today and the a100 could not connect to their bestbuy router. It says "not in range". All the other ones (galaxys, xooms, acer, asus, HTC flyer all were connected to bestbuy wifi. HTC and samsung were the better ones at full bars. Acer had 2 and asus had 3. I don't recall what the xooms were. But man what a disappointment. The only thing good was that the a100 was the cheapest at $249. They must've brought the price down again.

Oh ok. Updated OP so looks like version number is irrelevant in my case.
I'm still on 4.0.1 and just wondered if anyone has seen any improvements on wifi with 4.0.2 or newer?
As of now i get a ping of around 10ms, 28Mb/s down and 20Mb/s up on my laptop.
On the Gnex i get response time of 40-200ms, 5-8Mb/s down and 1-1.5Mb/s up.
wow, that's terrible. have you tried it with different routers?
i didn't test my wifi performance on 4.0.1, but on 4.0.3 i'm getting 31ms, 13319kpbs down and 6899kpbs up.
one glitch i've noticed is that when i turn wifi on, or i come in range of a known wifi network with wifi on, it sometimes takes a while for the wifi to connect.
Sadly I don't have any other router to test on. I have internet through a VPN-connection and have setup a stationary computer with a wifi card as an access point so I can connect devices without the VPN-logon and such (PS3 does not support it etc.)
I ran some more tests now (speedtest.net) and now I was pretty stable at around 29-49ms, but, this is kinda strange, all test runs and servers got me ~1Mb/s down and 15-16Mb/s up. The laptop on the other hand got 56Mb/s down and 30Mb/s up.

I think I found the problem and solution.
I looked under the advanced settings in wifi and came over the "avoid bad connections" (or what it's called in english), unchecked that and the result, surprisingly, was quite different.
Any idea why this would cause this problem?

It appears to be gone in 4.0.2. Previously, it did make quite a difference to uncheck it.

dam all hope is lost lol. Maybe they will fix it with 4.0.3.
The problem is you tube videos don't load fast enough on my nexus however on my gs2 and iPhone 4 it was instant.

A phone will generally have less signal compared to a laptop because of power ability.
I also think the nexus has a weak wifi antenna compared to my transformer and my old G2x.
Download and use WiFi Analyzer to check signal and -db levels between devices. Just like the cellular signal deboggle, bars don't mean squat.
LTE EX Galaxy Nexus CM9
Asus Transformer Revolver
wow thats terrible! i just got my GNex saturday and it's running 4.0.2 and my wifi at home is awesome between 35-45mb download and around 15ish upload. did you ever get the 4.0.2 update message yet?
No 4.0.2 here in Norway yet. Hopefully they'll just skip the .2 and push out .3 soon.
Anyhow, looks like unchecking the 'avoid bad connections' box helped, just tested now and the speed is great
I'm on 4.0.2 GSM Google build and the wifi is still sloppy com paired to my gs2. So no the update don't fix it, and there is home screen lag now, I use a static wall paper.

So, for the majority of last month I recall having absolute **** speeds on 3G ranging from 20 to 70 Kbps occasionally reaching to something like 120Kbps. This is in my normal coverage area where I can often get from 1100 to 1800 Kbps. I had thought that I might be getting throttled since I used a total of like 14GB of 3G last month. The new billing cycle started today and I'm still getting the same horrid speeds. What gives? I've already reflashed my ROM and modem without any benefit. Anyone else know what could be going on?

Sprint is the problem. LOL I'm not sure have you tried contacting Sprint? I'm jelly that you can even achieve 1200kbps.

Hahahahahahaha I remember those days. Man that's how bad sprints service is. That's why I left them and went with Verizon.

Seriously? Who would stay with a carrier that would take 5 minutes just to load a picture? I'll be sure to call them later. For some reason that never crossed my mind.

I tried Sprint briefly years ago, sounds like they haven't improved much since then.
if not for the LTE in my area (san antonio) sprint would be unusable.
It sounds like 1X data speeds and not 3G, some of the stock roms display a 3G icon even when connected to 1X data. If you use the speedtest app
it will show a graph of the results, if the speed graph looks like it hits a ceiling around 100k,.it is probably connected to 1X data.
If you see multiple spikes in the graph well above 100k, it is probably a crappy connection/signal.
Same here. I'm on Virgin Mobile, but it's apart of Sprint too. It's been crappy for the past week.

I'm on Sprint. Get about 500 to 1000kbits on 3G in my area. I understand they're not great in all areas, but the price is good.

So. Uh. If that isn't the best speed test you've ever seen? I think Jellybro has the 1x indicator fix and the normal upload speeds seem to indicate I'm on 3G. Sprint dude just said to take it to a store. I guess I'll do that. Unless going back to complete stock might fox something. I'll try that next.

Has anyone else noticed really poor wifi signals on this phone? At my work I used to get either full signal or one bar shy of full signal with my nexus 5. Now on the LG G3 I don't pick anything up at all. Just curious if I am the only one. Thanks.
I haven't had any problems with it, btw i have the sprint variant if that matters
This really belongs in Q&A, but anyway it's probably the router. It either needs a power cycle or it's a meh router. I'm getting 390-433Mbps on my G3 coupled with an Asus AC68U even when I'm outside my apartment.
Also, check the Mbps, because bars aren't a very accurate measurement.
Edit - If it's work Wi-Fi, your connection could also be meh due to other users connecting with wireless G along with them pulling data at the same time.

Its possibly a router issue and everyone diving on that sweet wireless
Thread moved from General -> Q&A, all questions belong in the Q&A section, please read the mod warnings and follow the rules.
Thanks everyone. I do get the same signal at home that I did with the nexus so it must be the router like you are saying. Sorry for posting in the wrong section, I am new to posting on the forum. If a moderator could move it over I would appreciate it.
Bars mean nothing between phones. The full bar signal strength for one manufacturer may be 1 bar for another.

Ah, I misread your first post. Have you checked the actual wifi signal strength at home with your old phone for comparison? Also, do you know what kind of signal the work router uses and what your home is? (dual band, N, G, or AC, etc)

Yes, at home it works flawlessly and is no different than my nexus 5 so I am thinking that it is the router at work like everyone has said.
wifi signal
Mine is weak too in job comes in and out on my old s5 was constant also mbps is slower on lg g3 compared to s5 right now connected to 5ghz ac I'm at 292mbps and my wifes s5 is at 866 mbps its not router cause like I said in job on s5 was a constant connection and on lg g3 comes in and out.The range is not as far and in job there are 5 ssid I can connect too if others dont work.
I have pretty slow wifi on my g3 to.
My WiFi is great and consistent on my F460S. Maybe there is something on your phone interfering with it? Have you tried to do a reset (soft or hard)? My wife's S5 is a little slower than my G3 at times but its usually around the same speeds. I also tested my D850 G3 and its the same as this one. What model G3 are you using?
Here is a SS of mine (its not the fastest but its at least consistent. )
