[Q] G2 Gaming Slowdowns - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I mainly notice this with high quality 3D games like Dead Space, Mass Effect Infiltrator, and Shadowgun. But basically if I reboot my phone and then launch one of these games it plays like a dream. Smooth(ish) and no slowdowns. But after 15 minutes of playing fps starts to drop, and after 20 the game is unplayable. If the phone has been booted a long time, the game starts laggy and is also unplayable.
Running CM7.2 overclocked to 1.3Ghz and using V6 script. Usually always have around 200mb of RAM free. I'm guessing it has something to do with caching, at least the consistency in the time period seems to indicate the phone is getting bogged down with something after a certain point.
Any settings that might be able to alleviate this? Or do I just have to cross my fingers that Google announces those 5 Nexus devices in November?

i noticed you're using v6 supercharger, with that, try run engine flush from time to time (or put it on a schedule)
also you can run the detailing to "defragment" all your apps, for better performance

Disappointed in the GPU...

Can't even play dungeon defender second wave, choppy once u get into a battle.
Thing is at 42C and the top portion of the phone is uncomfortably hot to touch.
I knew the hardware wasn't bleeding edge but didn't expect the phone to be this ****ty.
It just barely runs that game better than my previous Motorola Triumph overclock'd to 1.5ghz
how do u know it's not dungeon defenders not being optimized for ICS?
It's definitely because of the new software dude. The GNex can run Shadowgun without any hiccups, I'm sure it can run anything else when the apps are properly optimized.
Not properly optimized, bro.

That's because Dungeon Defenders is heavily optimized for the TEGRA2 platform, and has been modified for everything else since release. It's been modified to work with a majority of the GPUs on the market right now, but new devices demand more modification. It's the way the game was designed.
What this means is that soon they'll update it to work well with the Nexus. Just give it time.
Just return it and get, well, something better?
Or wait on app devs to update their stuff for ICS?
The hardware is just fine. It's poor app coding that's slowing you down.
Shadowgun runs fine, its one of the most graphically intensive games we have on Android.
LOL
I'm running a GTX 570.
No issues here
Dungeon Defender is working fine on my GNexus, with the graphics setting bar set all the way to full, what rom/kernel are you using?

It's 100% stock.
And yeah I suppose I need to wait for an ICS version before I pass judgement, just frustrated I can't play it.
Not optimized + maybe u just expirience some high latency(if it is a online game, i dont know)
only played a quick game, but seemed fluid..

Do you have force hardware acceleration under developer options checked?

Is it just me, or do games run badly on ICS?

I've owned Android devices prior the Nexus, and one thing that's always bothered me is that my Android could never run games as smoothly as the iPhone, while it has more power under the hood. I download Fruit Ninja and Scrambled on my Nexus and it seems to lag and stutters... are all games like this on the Nexus?
I would think it's because the game is not optimized for ICS yet. So you will get some lag and stuttering with those games.
What rom/kernel combo you running? On aokp & franco kernel, I play jelly defense, battle heart, scramble with friends, draw something, sprinkle, etc & have no lag...

Temple Run is lagging when you play it for a while, same with many other 3D games....
AOKP + franco r135 512mhz GPU and I have no lag in games. Little Empire, Dead Space, Modern Combat 3, Legendary Heroes, Zenonia 4. I run those and more all lag free and atleast 50-60 fps at all times.

384 is the stock clock =/= 2x gpu clock. Even then it only makes a 5-6 fps differnece in most circumstances. Could have better results in different apps but nenamark i saw a 5-6 fps difference.
Temple Run is stuttering in Galaxy Nexus 4.0.4 stock
I really think it's just software optimizaitons that need to be done imo. I'm sure with time it'll get better. Cause I'm running Temple Run perfectly no lag/stutters.
I personally wouldn't play Fruit ninja as they were in news in hot water over passing on our details.
As for games on Galaxy Nexus, they run slower than SGS2 and I think that's simply the limitations of the graphics chip which is as old as the hills.
I use a GSM Galaxy Nexus, stock, no overclock, no frills, just rooted to use Titanium Backup, never had any lags in Fruit Ninja, runs fine... Temple Run, ocasionally will stutter, but it is rare and most of the time I just play 20, 30 times and no stutter at all... GTA III also plays fine.
Obviously it is not the best performer, and, as you probably now, there is the same iPhone 4 GPU under the hood of our devices, only that it got extra memory bandwidth and extra clock to perform better (and also a HD screen that will eat-up some of this extra performance)... But I believe, at least as far as my own experience goes, that it is a decent performer, altough there are better alternatives as far as gaming goes (and I would believe that probably HTC One X would be the best Android gaming phone alternative as far as graphic performance is concerned right now).

I've played it long enough to unlock most characters, and all powerups maxed. Never lagged once.

Actually, 307mhz is because Google underclocked it, stock.

I have almost the same exact scenario, unlocked almost everything with no lag issues what so ever.

It doesn´t lag, bit it run like at 25fps or so, not as smooth as 60fps (I am refering when there are many coins in the screen and you are running too fast)
How are you quantifying that it runs at 25fps? Is there a fps counter somewhere?

nope, not for me. it runs even smoother than the version for the iphone .
maybe the gpu in the nexus is not the fastest one, maybe there are other phones that are much faster.... I DON'T CARE! i didn't bought my nexus to play games all day, i bought it to synchronize my calender, my notes, make calls and write sms and maybe some internet surfing.
you also all bought this phone, so why complain? it's like buying yourself a motorbike and then complaining about the fact that it only has 2 wheels.
Enabling Force GPU acceleration in the developer options under Settings might improve the performance of some games. Although it will might also make some games look weird.

Games are already GPU accelerated. You can't doubly accelerate them
i play gta iii, MC3, wind-up knight, shadow gun and fifa and no lag whatsoever
oh and drawsome too lol!

galaxy nexus cpu throttling on jelly bean?

hi there i got a used galaxy nexus from someone and installed android me 4.1.1 (version 1.6)
now my problem is, when playing intense graphic games (GTA III or dead trigger) i notice the fps drop and rise in the game.
At first I thought the game itself was lagging due to too much happening on screen (such as more characters) but it was not the case.
The game would be silky smooth for 10 seconds then choppy fps for the next 30 seconds... rise and repeat..
it seems the cpu keeps underclocking/overclocking itself... i even tried force closing all my apps before running the game and it helped with the fps a bit but the throttling is still there....
anyone had any similar issues and knows how to fix it?
edit: forgot to add, does your phone get really hot behind the LED FLASH when gaming? Mine gets really hot even on the screen too (On that side of the phone away from the battery)
Stock rom? custom rom?
sorry its custom rom (android me version 1.6 july 29th)
although i briefly remember this happening on the stock rom too so I don't think its a rom issue...
hard to say i can't post in the developer section yet... so i guess here to find out if people are having issues with the stock?
stock kernel if that makes a difference
Wow am I the only one with these symptoms? Hot screen and lagging frame rates? Since no one is replying maybe my CPU has cooling problems? Bit there is no fan haha

Any news about your problem? I have the same problem with jelly beans stock. Playing the game agent dash when the nexus is cold is fine when it is warm slows down, like a drop performance. How did you solve it? excuse my English

Try putting the graphics for the game on low

same problem also there are many persons with this problem.I'm on stock 4.1.1
If the CPU runs hot ( > 64 degrees Celsius), thermal throttling will kick in by reducing CPU clock speed. Works as designed.
You're not the only one who faces this problem - I face it on the stock ROM. The only way to alleviate this issue (not entirely, but to quite an extent) is to overclock your GPU - which means using another kernel that's clocked at 384mhz... which, for me, seems to break VPN (at least it breaks it on Air Kernel - Faux works for a while, then stalls... I don't know the nitty gritty, but that's what seems to happen - YMMV).
I had a thought: what if we enabled GPU acceleration in the developer options and then played it - do you think that'll make a difference? It does, generally speaking, make a difference to the other programs (apart from breaking some )

[Q] Are there differences between Android Market & Gameloft Games - MC4 / Nova 3?

As title states. I have purchased some time ago from the Android Market Modern Combat 4 an Nova 3. MC4 is a bit laggy even when I temporarily overclock from 1.2 to 1.5 (which I really dont want to do) and its a bit better but still lags.
Same conditions for Nova 3 as above. I read somewhere that the Wapshop versions are not as bad.. is this true? Can someone let me know? I am also aware that the apps could probably run better if GL optimized them better, but they wont.
Side note, to me MC4 looks the same as MC3 graphics wise, well for the most part there are some areas where I do see a bit of a difference but should that difference really make that much of a notice on our phones performance? Could it be the fact MC4 uses the Havok engine...... I mean for me MC3 just flies like a cube of hot butter down a San Francisco side in the summer. (does that make sense......)
Anyways I woudl appreciate any inpout from users who have played and or are using the wapshop and the Market versions...
For MC4, the wapshop version does not lag when the gamepad is out. But u still need wifi on for best performance.
I dont know about NOVA 3 though.
You'll need a good connection
If your playing online with the Carrier network, there might be some lag and some connection issues. Using a good wifi connection is better online but some times its going to be the host your connected to, with the bad connection Also if you play while your device is charging, the battery heats up quickly which can also give a poor performance. BTW if its single player thats lagging, its probably cause your device ran out of memory/RAM -apps like task killer and memory booster can help with that. I noticed N.O.V.A 3 was just naturaly laggy on multiplayer though :/
Almost forgot

Both market and gameloft site versions is the exact same thing since both files you download are identical, though you can get special offers/promotions in a purchase from gameloft and/or the market. Hope i helped!
Mc4, If u have played on another device looks spectacular, GL "Optimized" our device by adding controls and by Reducing the texture quality which is making the game look like A childs puzzle put together (the squary textures) , this speeds up the game alot because the device can handle the texture quality like that,

Questioning Performance on my Stock G pad (Games)

I'll preface by saying I bought a LG G2 Phone and I love how everything works on stock. Pages load quick, no noticeable lag, games run great with no slowdowns.
When I heard about the G pad, it was a no brainer for me, snapdragon 600 processor sounds like the only difference other than the camera which i don't care about, I should expect similar performance. Seems I was wrong.
The only thing that stops me from loving this tablet is the speed. Experiencing some stutters while web browsing while my G2 experiences none both using chrome.
The biggest thing that bothers me is my Go to games for the Gpad. Kingdom Rush and Kingdom Rush Frontiers. This game plays at 70% fps roughly and constantly dips down to 40-50% fps, so annoying and cannot see past this. Runs without the smallest slowdown on my G2. Only thing different between these devices is snapdragon 600 vs 800. This isnt even a demanding game shouldn't they play well on both. I have 1.3gb of ram free so thats not a problem.
Should these 2 devices not handle non demanding apps/tasks similarly? ( Lg Gpad vs LG G2 ) They have very similar hardware and run off the same LG version of android. Is there a chance I have a bad tablet?
Is this a widespread issue?
What do you mean by 70% fps? How did you even measure that? I also play Kingdom Rush Frontiers but haven't noticed any lag or drop in frame rate. The scrolling in that game is weird and is a bit laggy though when scrolling the map.

If you're using a softkey hider I highly recommend that you temporarily disable them when playing a game and that you don't have any big memory hogs in the background on.
Let it cool of a bit if you have used it for a long while before or if you have been playing for a larger amount of time.
Lastlyif you are on stock rom as in realy stock from the retailer then I highly recommend that you root it and install either Malladus(which I am using) or another AOSP rom. The stock rom has some serious issues with smoothness and LG really dropped the ball on that.
