Hi all. I had some newbie questions for current HTC Droid Incredible 2 owners. My newbie questions are:
1) Does the HTC Droid Incredible 2 have a locked bootloader? I'd like to know if getting a custom ROM onto the phone is as easy as rooting + running ClockworkMod, or if I'll need to dig into the dev forums to do some crazy kung-fu to get custom ROMS on.
2) Has Ice Cream Sandwich been officially released for the HTC Droid Incredible 2 yet?
3) Are the ICS-based ROMs (specifically MIUI and CyanogenMod 9) stable enough for full-time use on this phone?
I am a long-time Android user and a long-time custom ROM user. I currently own a Motorola Droid RAZR on Verizon Wireless, which pretty much only works in North America (and I cannot afford to wait for Motorola to unlock GSM global roaming, which will probably take a few months).
I am looking to buy a "backup" phone that supports global roaming, for use when I am travelling overseas for business. And I am considering the HTC Droid Incredible 2 as a global roaming phone, since they only cost about $150 - $180 used.
Thank you very much for your help with this.

It should take no longer than 20 minutes to root and install a custom ROM on the Droid Incredible 2! It is by far the easiest phone to mod that i have ever owned.

I have been unsuccessful for a month now in rooting this phone. I come from a LG ally which was incredibly easy to root and mod. Please if you say the dinc2 is so easy to mod help me. I am no noob but this phone has beaten me so far. My software is completely up to date which what I understand tacoroot is the only method that will work but I cannot accomplish this for whatever reason.

The newest update makes of major pain..... But my advise would be to search for anything to do with a rooting process called tacoroot. It was the only way I could find to root my replacement phone. Once you figure tacoroot out you are home free

Exactly what problems are you having with the tacoroot? I believe that if you have the latest OTA update, that this is the only method that will get you S-off.

Download pics from emai & Astro permissions
Hi,
Sorry for these newb questions, but I did try a search for the answers first.
1) In the HTC stock email application, I am trying to save a jpg picture that came as an email attachment. When I click download attachment on the email, and I then have a paperclip to tap on. When it opens, it gives me the choice of opening it Gallery, Astro Image Viewer, or the HP printer app I have. Problem is, if I try to use Astro, it says "Astro was not granted the necessary permission to view this image." If I choose Gallery, it will let me look at the picture, share it with other apps, or set it as a contact. However, it will not let me download it into my gallery.
How do I save a picture emailed to me as an attachment, on the phone/sd, for later use?
THANK YOU!

Depends on what email you run in the program. Gmail is simple and easy just download their app and its all automatic. If you have multi email accounts and have to use the htc mail there should be an option under settings (using your menu key) to download attachments. Once downloaded going into contacts and set as profile image.

What's up XDA, I am a very happy Nexus One owner. That phone is amazing
as we all know. But, I can't lie the G2 is looking more and more tempting.
There are basically 2 issues as I see it:
The G2's hardware is superior to the N1's, period.
(Especially now with perm root, and those amazing overclocks.)
But, the N1 is a true Dev phone, so it gets all the latest software.
(i.e. Gingerbread, Miui, on and on...)
What do you guys think, would you switch from an N1 to a G2?
thats a tough one. I'm a former N1 owner and still miss it. Only reason why i jumped on board with the G2 is because i lost my precious N1 that i had paid the full amount for... Other then that, i'd still hold onto it.
I would hold on to it, especially with the Gingerbread update coming out. Maybe when Gingerbread gets ported to G2, you can make the switch..

I personally made the jump, but only because I root my phone.
If you dont root your phone I would stay with the N1 but if you do root you will get just about every goodie that the Nexus One does + better everything so I cant think of a reason to stay to be hones.
Gingerbread will be ported over by some developer here a short time after its released on the Nexus One so I wouldnt worry about that ^_^
I am a former N1 user that made the switch to a G2. I can say personally, it was a great choice.
I loved my N1. However, I wasn't huge into the custom roms and modding. I did my fair share of installing custom roms, kernel mods, etc. However, at the end of the day (i.e. after 3 phone replacements due to faulty hardware over the course of my ownership) I found myself sticking to the stock OTA 2.2 software with a few minor kernel mods like cifs.
My main reasons for switching the to G2 were:
1. I really missed having a hardware keyboard (I went from a G1 to the N1)
2. The G2 hardware was superior to the N1 in all respects
3. HSPA+ is awesome in the Seattle area
4. I was able to sell my N1 on Ebay for $440 which pretty much paid for my G2.
My current new found loves for the G2 are:
1. 1497Mhz overclock kicks BUTT in the PSX emulator!
2. Temproot is so easy and doesn't void my warranty
3. Permroot is now established so if I want to go mod crazy later I can
4. Battery life on my G2 is easily double what I got on the N1
Hopefully all this will shed some light on your question and help you with your decision
Yeah me too i switch from the N1 and i was missing it because the root but now we have full power to this phone it have better hardware but is u call iam happy with my decision

Former N1 owner here. The G2 is BY FAR a superior device, no contest. I would have waffled a couple days ago when we had no perma-root, but now? Absolutely, one hundred percent superior. The G2 will get all the latest software just like the G1 did -- you can run Froyo on a G1 with no problem, remember. It's the universal handset. The only thing it lacks is a front-facing camera, and I for one couldn't care less about that
I currently have and use both the N1 and the G2.
G2:
+ Faster hardware
+ Keyboard
+ Swype
- Bulky
- No CyanogenMod
N1:
+ Gets updates first
+ CyanogenMod
+ Thin
- No keyboard
- No Swype
I find myself carrying the G2 most of the time because I a corporate user, and I have to send a lot of email from the phone. I am much faster with long emails using the physical keyboard.
No offense the nexus one will get gingerbread but that the last update for that phone. If you want a phone that has support on update, beside rooting then go with the g2 it sure will taste Android 3.0 os honeycomb and Android 4.0 os ice cream for 2011.

http://www.pocketables.net/2010/11/...d-to-nexus-one-handsets-in-next-few-days.html
I dont have any info on the nexus one not passing beyond 2.3 os.
Trust me the nexus one wont get Android 3.0 os from google.
It will be from xda developer, when google drop the ball on them. It the same way they did with the g1.
Either you root or not and google going to say the samething to users like they did with the g1 in may 2010. Telling the users that they wont support them in 2011.
Why should we trust you? Are you a Google employee? Does one have your ear? You're just making unsubstantiated claims based on your own opinion.
To the person who posted about "no" cyanogen mod.
ROMs are subjective, that doesn't matter unless you disparately need it and still, Cyanogen himself is working on a build for the g2. Plus when the N1 came out, it barely had any ROMs available for it. IT TAKES TIME PEOPLE!
The HW on the G2 is superior, the support will continue. From what it seems, gingerbread will be the last update on the Nexus One before it gets discontinued completely. Sure it was the Official Google phone, and it will always be but its getting old in age, and specs. It's time to move on to bigger and better stuff. I had an N1 and I sold it to buy this G2, and so far it pretty much owns the Nexus One in everything.

Yes, it is likely the G2 will have CM and will have it rather soon. It's not out now, so I was simply stating a fact. The hardware in the G2 is better, but I currently don't notice much a difference in usability between the two. That being said, I prefer the G2, but I am not prepared to write off my N1, yet.
Jay dont believe me i being with android for 2 years .
By now i should know how things work with android updates. All android phones that are google experience phones only get support 1 year from google or manufacture. After that xda developers continue supporting it, to people that interest in them.

Yeah jay i wish that nexus one users get the latest operating system from google, because not everyone wants to root their phones. Especially, if their new and they dont know about this. And, will be scare of messing up their phones.
Hi community! I acquired a galaxy nexus (CDMA) recently and I wanted to know if I should keep it. I'm going to give you a few details and ask a few questions.
Details: phone has no LTE card, and the battery door is in tact but needs to be replaced because it wont stay attached, VZW said they can't run these phones on their month to month plans and the phone is stuck in a boot loop but I'm not sure if it's stock or a flashed ROM running. (I'm able to access a recovery menu but it looks to be stock).
Questions:
1. Is this phone more valuable for me to keep as stock or flash?
2. Is there any way to get VZW to run this phone in their month 2 month plans?
3. Are there any other carriers this phone can be flashed to?
4. Ultimately, should I keep or sell based on the condition?
Thx!

Personally (even on stock), this phone is great. Flashing new roms will only make it better. I'm not familiar with US carriers, but you can only use on another CDMA provider. In Canada, all the Gnexs are GSM.
If you were to return, what phone would you get? Another Android, Blackberry, iPhone, WP7?
The RAZR looks good and so does the new Xperia S. Personally, I'd stick with the Nexus if you like it!
1. The best part about this phone is the fact that it is not locked down and the dev community is amazing. Stock is good (no VZW bloatware). But IMO, custom ROMs and kernels are the way to go.
2. No idea
3. It may be possible in the future. The VZW Samsung Fascinate was able to be flashed to straight talk and cricket.
4. It's up to you.

200 is what I'm looking for. I know what it's worth and can do the work on it but I didn't know who would be in the market for it other than to sell it to one of the local unlock shops. I didn't know if I should sell it unlocked or locked to those shops of I sold it. I'd keep it of VZW did non contract plans with this phone.

Because I know what it's worth lol. Like I said, the battery door needs replacing and I'm not going to research how much those are. Also, I haven't begun much
research on the flashing of this product. The only difference between me and the "local shop" guys is that if their software won't "fully" flash newer phones, they don't come here to flash it, they sell it stock or with a partial flash. You want the hassle for 200, you got it lol!

So even though LG announced ICS for the Optimus LTE back in December, there was no mention of ICS for the Nitro specifically and there was some speculation that this meant AT&T had no plans of updating it.
Today AT&T announced ICS is available for the HTC Vivid, which has nothing to do with this forum, but the same press release listed several other devices that will get ICS "in the coming months" and the Nitro is among them.

With AT&T, if you're going to assume anything, assume the worst. So if there's no official announcement, assume there will be no update.
Now, there's an official announcement and a general time frame for the ICS update.
Well I found this article, looks like we will be gettin ics, maybe cm9 before the official release

Unlocking LG Nitro P930 with ICS
I purchased a LG Nitro P930 (AT&T) that had been rooted and also has ICS
on it. I've tried to unlock the phone and have been unable to do so. I have
an unlocking code and I went to cellunlocker.net for help when I couldn't get
it to unlock. I followed all of the different ways to unlock it and it still won't work.
I've even tried 2 different sim cards in it and have the same results.
Has anyone been able to unlock this phone with ICS or have any suggestions
short of throwing it out (too expensive).
Any and all help will be appreciated.
Ivan
Yeah, assuming you have root (if you don't, root it) flash the official Gingerbread nandroid backups found in this thread using the dd commands. I don't understand how your device has ICS, though, unless somebody had access to what designgears just leaked to us or unless you're mistaking ICS for CyanogenMod or AOKP.
You might want to go ahead and make backups of your partitions before you flash the Gingerbread images, though.
You're Right
Thanks Malnilion.
Here's what the seller put in his description:
Auction is for a perfect condition LG Nitro HD Smartphone on AT&T Network with Android's latest OS installed, Ice Cream Sandwich via CyanogenMod 9 build. ICS is not available yet for this phone because LG/ATT have been dragging their feet on getting it ready. This phone is by far the nicest phone I have used in quite awhile. I've had the Galaxy Note, Galaxy Captivate, Nexus, Lumia 900, HTC Titan, and a bunch more. I test phones a lot. Screen is real HD at 720p and the best one of those I have seen. Colors are near perfect and detail is bright and crisp. Phone has been rooted and has ClockworkMod Installed so you can load up any ROM you want with a simple reboot. It was quite a task getting ICS on this phone but I was able to do it and it runs like butter. Really smooth and has full capabilities.
Hopefully this answers your question. The phone looks great with it and I'd like to keep ICS if I could but I need to get the phone unlocked and nothing I have tried so far works. Is my only answer to go back to the original OS or ?
Thanks

No JB ROM has Sense right now.
HTC has not released JB for any device as of yet. JB will come only with One X+. Even then it will probably take 2-3 months for Sense with JB to work for DHD. Atleast not unless One V or One S get their JB updates(if any).
I think our phone get old .. we should buy one x
Maybe the time has come to buy a new phone. Thanks for replys.

well actually they did not said anything like that...
they cancelled ICS for DHD because there would be no way to upgrade without formatting system partitions which would lead to loss of users data and so on...

they cancelled ICS for DHD because there would be no way to upgrade without formatting system partitions which would lead to loss of users data and so on...

Yes, and an average user will not be happy with this. ROM flashers dont care, but normal users do

True, but they could have released the update, clearly stating in the update info screen that it will lead to loss of data. So then, only the users who want it would run it, while the others would simply cancel it. This is a no-brainer. Other companies have done this, so I don't see why HTC can't. Re-partitioning and loss of data is no excuse for a company to renege on their promised upgrade. At best, they could have released an RUU on HTCdev for our phone just like they did for the HTC Desire GB upgrade. That way only really knowledgeable users would run it.
The truth is, they never started work on ICS for the DHD at all. *Every* other HTC phone had an ICS leak a month or two before they officially got it. The DHD had none. They never started work on the DHD, because they didn't want to spend their time and money on the oldest phone in the list, expecting people to buy their new One series instead. That's a crap move. It wouldn't be that bad if they didn't promise the upgrade in the first place and then go back on their word, but they did. Motorola did the same thing with the Photon 4G and 2 other phones. At least we got Froyo > Gingerbread. Those phones were stuck on GB their entire life, and Motorola had the gall to offer a $100 discount (not cash-back) for customers of these phones, if they purchased newer Motorola phones.
On the other hand, you have Sony Mobile which us releasing alpha stage ROMs of upcoming upgrades to the community, along with kernel source code for the alpha ROM, taking suggestions from the community and actively working together to develop that ROM. That is how a company should be. Motorola is crap and HTC has gone far down that route. They just don't care. Sony as a company can't work to upgrade all their phones all the time too, because ultimately it costs time and money, but to counter that they are actively helping the community by providing drivers and binaries for custom ROMs. This is the reason more or less all Sony Xperia phones (low-end to high-end) have official CM support. HTC and Motorola make great phones but their business practices and ideologies are just wrong.

Hey XDA Dev community! So I happen to have an old, but completely mint!, Droid Incredible 2 from when I first purchased it from Verizon back in 2011. I no longer use Verizon and switched to T-Mobile and now using a Z3. Anyways, birthdays are coming up soon and i'd like to hand my Incredible 2 down to my younger brother as a gift. BUT, of course as you all figured, there is a slight problem: the ADR6350 is SIM locked, running Android ver. 2.3.4 with HTC Sense ver. 2.1 basically bare bones stock stuck in the year 2011. So I'm trying to figure out if this handset can be upgraded to today's standards (at least ICS 4.00) rooted and unlocked. I'm definitely not wanting to use Verizon so I'm leaning towards T-Mobile prepaid. I'm trying to trick this little handset out for the little guy as I think the ADR6350 is still a half decent starter cell. So is it possible to get this cell up and running without Verizon's chains? I really hope so! because i'd hate to leave this perfect, more than capable, cell in a box for 5 more years to only be a shiny paperweight.. Please help! Walk me through step by step as I am a newb with cell rooting ect. (hence the S/N) But please, only proven stable mods or Roms though!
(mods feel free to move thread to proper location)
PM if you need hardware/software/IMEI #'s
THANKS!!!
