Hello,
I just got my HTC One X a few days ago (white, o2-branded) and it has a quite annoying bug:
Everytime a sound (no matter if music, a game or just the volume adjustment sound) starts or ends, the phone makes a "clicking" sound. It sounds a bit like a camera shutter.
Hear for yourself:
(had to break up link because this is my first post, just remove the spaces)
youtu. be/thTyeud5foc
I contacted HTC's support and they told me it wasn't reported before and I should take my phone back to the store I bought it from.
Now my question:
- Has anyone else reported or read about that bug? Goggle couldn't tell me.
- o2 didn't deliver the 1.28 Update yet. Could it be a software problem? I remember some custom DHD kernels having similar issues. So should I just wait for the update?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Cheers,
Phil

It happens with poweramp ... When you open it !
Sent from my HTC One X
I don't have poweramp installed...
On my phone, it happens whenever a sound starts/ends, no matter which app it is
Update:
It seems equalizer (an app I installed) is causing it. I didn't realize I had installed it, it was auto-restored by google when I got my new phone. As soon as I deinstalled it and rebooted the phone, the problem was gone. That's sad, because I don't like beats audio but want to be able to slightly increase the bass for some songs.
Anyone know another good equalizer app, preferrably with preset-widget-buttons on homescreen?
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
i have the same, sounds like the camera lense is tapping the plastic
Check if you have Any app installed that alters your Sound, like equalizer, poweramp or similar. For me the clicking went away after I deinstalled and restarted the phone. You should probably untick quickstart before restarting.
It can be caused by DSPManager, disable all the tweaks for the speaker and reboot, works a treat.

Also can be caused by the virtual room settings, I would leave that disabled too.

I have the same issue. Stock phone, no root, Tmobile.
Hey guys
I picked up a One X on T-Mobile UK the other day (stock, not rooted yet) and I get exactly the same thing. I've only noticed it when playing music through Play Music (sideloaded the app via an apk found here), but now I'm going to look out for it when playing videos.
Given the comments made about poweramp and other equalisers, I suspect that it's something to do with the Beats Audio gubbins that comes pre-installed. So much for "studio quality sound", eh?
Hi,
mine issue is somehow close to yours.
When I connect my HOX to external speakers there is some sound like click which is heard every time s sound is produced by the phone. This click i hear in the beginning and the end of the original sound (music, notification, etc.). It's quite annoying as long as the overall sound quality of the phone is satisfying to me.
Also I dont have none apps affecting audio quality. Only the stock player + sound cloud + pocket casts.

I'm having a similar problem to others in this thread. I haven't installed any sound-altering apps, and no other adjustments have been made, yet whenever a sound plays a slight audio click follows... If anyone has an idea of how to solve this, I'd be very grateful. I'm on T-Mobile. Thanks!

I see on the FAQ that I should "disable any audio effects/audio DSPs to reduce the vibrations of the DAC"...
How do I do this, please? And is this only relevant if you've activated effects already? Thanks.
Is this problem still ongoing for most?
I got this phone for my cuz. When i tested the camera i heard the sound and thought was a camera thing and could be off if the camera shutter sound was disabled
after handing over the phone to him he says he still hears the sound whenever he plays any kind of audio
It was a stock phone from Verizon so I can't tell if any other apps were installed
I'll check and follow the instructions here then let you guys know.
If I find anything else that i can share to help out will also share that
G
That click sound is because of our ****ty DAC ... So if you want to have bad sound quality for example uninstall all equalizer apps...if you want to have better, then keep it and live with it that it will click sometimes...after a while it should disappear

Ok cool ONEX Master I'll see if it does go away.
Thought it was in fact a hardware issue.
Cause right now out of the country and have no simple way of just returning it.
Will upgrading the ROM or rooting and changing the ROM help?

it won't help normally as most EQ/DSP are producing this sound...it's because the DAC is forced to end sound so it will produce that click sound, but after a while it should be gone
hey guys, currently running 1.29 on my unbranded HOX.
Noticed earlier while listening to my music through the stock music player that the songs kept semi skipping for a couple of seconds and the music sounded very, how to put it, crackly and popping, has anyone else had this problem?

It's been posted a few times I believe its to do with beats.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Yeah I have read about beats but I thought the problem being discussed was full songs skipping, also thought 1.28 was supposed to have fixed it, hopefully HTC can sort it out! I'm no audiophile but its damn annoying.
I have it to. First i thought that is was my headset now i read its the phone on 1.26 i never had probs

i had this too. the 1.29 update seems to finally have fixed it.
that or that i am now using ubermusic with beats enabled
Hello. 1st time posting, new Android user.
I have the very same problem and it seems to be getting worse. It's definitely to do with the phone adjusting network, as when it's in airplane mode it doesn't happen at all. As I travel on a train that goes along a coast line, in and out of tunnels - this is really getting to be annoying.
I'm using both DoubleTwist and the stock music player, happens with both EQ/Beats on or off.
I don't really want to buy another music player

But if ubermusic really solves the problem then I might look into it.
Also happens when watching vidoes inc. streaming video.
This really is a bit of a joke - "Authentic Sound" they said. So far it's about as authentic as an old walkman. I'm smitten with the phone in general, but this is unacceptable.
Maybe there's another fix. Perhaps a 3rd party app conflict? Any ideas?
1.29.401.11
I have this probelm as well, I thought it was my bluetooth headphones until I connected my wired headphones and the problem was still there - Poweramp is better than the stock player. Will try ubermusic tonight and see if that helps. The Galaxy nexus had this problem but was sorted with an update - hopefully HTC will do so too - quickly.
I am on 1.29...11 by the way.

remember android has a 15 minute period in which you can get a refund for an app - if it doesn't work open the play store for ubermusic and the buy button should have changed to a refund button.
(ubermusic is also skinnable, i didn't like the default but the ics style one is nice)

beats won't be "authentic sound" - music with no EQ applied will be the most authentic. but i get the point!

Exactly, it seems to be not just the network coverage, but any notification coming while the music is on.
Happens to me while traveling by subway, the network coverage is only in stations, not between them, and the music starts skipping right away after leaving/before getting to the stations. Also if the network coverage is OK (outside) but you get a notification from calendar, music crackle the same way.
Contacted HTC support and they replied to me to get a replacement device from my reseller...
Bit of an update on this one.
I checked what apps were running in the background - to see if there was anything I could kill to see if it made a difference.
I noticed the widget for SeriesGuide was running, despite my not using the widget or the app for a long time (I had rebooted the phone on occasions since not using the app).
So I uninstalled that application, cleared all cache using ES Task Manager and shut down the phone (not reboot). I heard that a restart could just solve the issue anyway.
Hey presto, no cracking audio or video so far - (that's 3 1hour train journeys).
I'm not entirely 'blaming' SeriesGuide, it may have been anything - but it's worth checking whats using resources that isn't running - I'm sure many of you do this anyway.
One interesting thing is, I was browsing the net or something last night on the couch, just using the phone - when I noticed it started to make pretty audible pops for no reason - about 5, and then nothing. No problem on the train this morning though - so for now I'm happy.
Install poweramp and problem disappear
Inviato dal mio HTC One X
I tried Poweramp - despite not liking it, it didn't solve my problem.
Service repair
Sent my HTC One X to service repair for diagnostics and the final statement is - faulty motherboard. Anyone having issues with crackling music player either when the network signal is lost or when the notifications pop up, go and return your phone.
Well, since my last post explaining what I did to remove the crackle, I've had none at all.
Hi,
I just came from a concert and like every fan, I made a lot of videos through my GNex.
But in one of the best performances, for some weird reason, there is no sound. At first I thought it might be because of the size of the video (second biggest). But there is another one (biggest) with a higher size and it has sound without any issues.
Also all the videos before and after it have sound, just except THAT one. Man am I confused beyond measure.
Does anyone else has this issue? Is there a way to get the sound back on that video? I really want to get it working.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hmmm... transfer it to your computer, and see if you can play it there? Idk what media player you use for your computer, but I recommend VLC Media Player, plays everything I throw at it, perfectly. Come back with results.

Actually I found that out on my PC once I had transferred all the videos. And with more digging, I found another video (from the concert) that didn't have sound. So its two from the pack. But it only happened in last night's videos, never happened before.
And I did use VLC to play 'em.
I've read some threads in Google about people complaining for this issue, but they see it more consistently than I do. If it indeed is a mic issue (faulty mic stops working in GNex) then I'm screwed. Didn't expect that to happen on a Google flagship.
But if you guys do have any suggestions to fix it I would be glad to hear 'em. (or find the sound file hidden somewhere in the crevices of android directory structure)
Also if this issue persists, could someone guide me to a Video recording app which shows you your mic equalizer (or spectrum) so that you know when the mic is recording and when its not. So that for videos where you don't see any movement on the mic spectrum you can restart and start taping again instead of losing that magical moment for all eternity... no thanks to you Google!
When I connect Bluetooth to my car and try to stream music it start stuttering/ skipping like crazy, every second or so. I've tried it with multiple apps, Spotify, play music and YouTube same effect. Seems like Bluetooth can't handle the bandwidth. Never had this problem with my Nexus 5.
Anyone else have this issue?

It's been working great for me. Tried it with my VW Passat, Bose Soundlink Mini, and another Bluetooth speaker. No skipping or audio delays noticed. Usually playing Play Music, YouTube, or iHeartRadio.

It hasn't been as bad a you describe but I have noticed some stuttering. Not enough to ruin my experience, though.
I got phone on 10-21. I stream Pandora all day in my work truck to a jbl change 2+ and have my bt ear piece for calls connected all day. I have not had one issue
Mine did it the first time I ever used it in my car, and it was unbearable. After day one though, the issue self resolved and I had no problems. I actually noticed it first using navigation over bt

Yep. I got this several times. Turning off/on Bluetooth was the only way to fix. Not ideal when doing 70 on the motorway.

Same problem here, it makes bluetooth unbearable in my car. ONLY my car, as I don't have any stuttering on other bluetooth devices. Never had a problem on my Nexus 5, only the 5X.
Edit:
For clarity, I am full stock, not rooted or unlocked
I'm having the same issues. It seems the worst when I have Waze running while beyondpod is playing. I don't have guidance enabled, so Waze shouldn't be playing audio.
After streaming for a few days, I don't have this problem anymore. Weird, but I'm glad it's working now. Try what someone posted earlier, just turn off and turn on Bluetooth.

That didn't solve my issue. Rebooting the phone did, however. There must be a memory leak.
There is a issue opened on the Google code page. I'm not skilled enough with adb to capture the logcat. I am not allowed to post links so just add

I experienced some stuttering over bluetooth in my toyota camry. Will test it further.
I could not reproduce the stuttering issues again until today when I was streaming music it decided to stutter as I read an email. Rebooted phone and it was fine.
Up the thread.
I just bought bluetooth earphones, I thought they were defective, so I replace them, but i got always the same problem, the sound is stuttering. And after some seconds, it simply goes blank, no sound at all. :/
I tested them on other smartphones and tablet, and they are working great.
I also noticed that if i put the nexus 5x really closed to the earphones (1 cm), it's working nice.
I contact Google, but they kept saying i have to contact the earphones manufacturer (Aukey). But it's clearly a bug with the phone.
There is just one thing I didn't try yet. It's to wipe the phone and flash the last android image (i read somewhere some guys fixed their problem doing this, where ota updates didn't).
Anybody got information or solution?
Thanks
Guys anybody facing audio distortion on speaker?
My device is unrooted and locked and I m sure this is not a hardware problem. I cannot get rid of this problem. Please help me figure out a fix.
EDIT : happens only on youtube app on speakers. Please check your and confirm.
EDIT 2 : A Reset from recovery fixed all audio issues. All works good now.
it happens to me
Nothing wrong here
should i return it cause i still have got 2 days to return or will it get fixed with a software update? Its a software issue so i dont think its a big deal but still its the youtube app that i use most.
I only noticed it on calls when using the speaker.

Happens to me too also just youtube/youtube vanced app, try playing Arctic Monkeys - 505 in youtube and it sounds terrible, then I played the same song in Power Amp and works just fine, also movies with VLC have no problems.
EDIT: I tried recording the screen to report the problem but seems that when you are in a recording the problem gets fixed, right after I stopped the recording the problem continued.
EDIT2: Though I don't think reseting the phone through the recovery is a fix to the real problem, and it should be fixed by a patch or an update (YT app or system) I tried doing it and it indeed worked, now is working just fine.

Yes after restoring the phone to the factory state through the recovery menu the issue was solved, so far it has been working just fine.
Has anyone else fixed this issue via a factory reset? I have it on speaker and headphones (bluetooth is fine). Definitely seems like a software issue from the way I've experienced it here.
Is there any other idea then The Factory Reset To get the raid of that sound problem??

Hello. Yes. You need to install PowerAmp - build version 852+
And to resolve a problem with correct Hi-res turn off you need the following sequence of steps:
Plug in headPhones -> play track in powerAmp -> disable hi-res in powerAmp settings -> unplug headPhones.

I have redmi note 8t, and it has distortion on almost everything, even custom ringtones, but only at max volume. If I turn it down 2 or 3 levels, it sounds fine. Is it normal? Do you had distortions on every volume, or just on max?

Did you had distorted sound on lower volume as well. On my redmi note 8t it happens on JetAudio, power amp and custom ringtones, but it plays fine on YouTube, and it's only when on max volume. If i lower the volume by 2-3 levels it's fine.
