Received my Gnex from the play store this afternoon. It's been sitting on the wall charger for about an hour now and the phone still does not power up. Do I need to be worried?
Does the battery charging icon show up while it's charging?

Heh...yes, the battery is indeed in the phone but that's a good thing to verify!
I tried holding the power button for 20 seconds. Then did the same with the power button and up/down volume buttons held in for about 20 secs. Nothing at all.
Uh uh there's somethig wrong. It should have powered right on up. Most batteries come with a 50% charge. I'd contact Google and make em exchange it.

Try plugging it into a PC. See if that works. You can also hold Volume up + power (could be volume down + power...) and that opens the device in recovery mode.
Basically just try anything you can to change the way the device starts up. Try a different power outlet as well. Failing all those... Yes; you have a problem. I would attempt to return the device. There are ways of fixing a bricked Nexus, but there are no easy ways of fixing a Nexus that won't accept a charge.
EDIT: Reason why I'm asking you to plug it into a PC is because possibly only the wall plug is broken.
Hmmmmm....okay so I took the battery out with it plugged into the charger (which is something I had not done yet) and when I put the battery back in, the charging icon showed up for a few seconds but the phone still wouldn't power on. So I took the battery out again with the phone still plugged in and reinstalled it. Battery icon came back and then I was able to power on with the power button.
Very weird and somewhat concerning but I guess I'll see how it goes here.
Thanks for the quick and helpful replies everyone.

Hi Everyone,
I purchased galaxy nexus around a week back. Yesterday, it's interface hung up and it stopped responding. I had no other option other then to remove the battery and restart the phone again. I removed the battery and inserted it back but now the phone won't turn on. I've tried everything. I held the power button for atleast a minute and it didn't work. I pressed both volume down and power button but that didn't work either. I removed the SIM card but it still didn't work. I also put the phone on charge but still no response from the phone.
It does not show anything on the screen. Has anyone else faced this kind of problem? Is this a hardware problem? Is there any solution other then replacing the phone?
Looking forward for a reply. Thanks.
Try the power button again. If no worky probably gotta exchange it

Sounds like you've covered most of the methods/states of turning the device on.
All the states of pressing the power button with other options I can think of are: volume up/down/together, usb plugged in and usb removed. Could also try removing the battery in between trying these and varying the length of holding down the power button.
Having usb unplugged, no volume keys pressed and holding the power button for 2-3 seconds has worked best for me.
Otherwise, as suggested above, the other option is to return/exchange the device as defective.
Hope that helps!
How sure are you that the battery is not dead? Of course like you say, the device itself may be dead but still.
Try keeping the phone on charge for a few minutes (say 15) at the very least and then attempt to see if the charging indicator shows on the screen when you click the power button. If it doesn't, then like everyone says, exchange the device....
My 2p's worth...
Thankyou everyone for the reply.
@s1977 pretty sure. It had around 50% battery when it stopped responding. And I also put it on charge for atleast 3-4 hours. Didn't work.
I think the only option left, as you all suggested, is to get a replacement and that's what I was afraid of. I ordered this from the UK and now I'll have to pay extra courier charges + tax to get a replacement.
Anyway, once again thankyou all for your response.

Make sure you try holding the power button down firmly for awhile. Once it took about 10 seconds for me. I was starting to freak out.

Hello!
I dropped my LGOG E975 and the screen has cracked. The upper half would still work. But i could not turn the phone off. So i let the battery run dry. When i came back from vacation, approx. a month after, i sent it in to change the screen. It got changed, but now it has another problem:
It wont turn on! At the store they said they could not get the phone to boot. I took it to a charger and while holding the volumebuttons it showed the LG logo for a second, then blinked red a couple of times. This happend twice. Now if i hold the power button for 15 seconds and plug it in, it will quickly blink a red light.
What to do? I suspect it's something with the software.
FIY i unlocket the bootloader, rooted and installed a recovery. Dont remember which one tho'.
Update:
I can now enter fastboot or download mode. But the phone wont be found by kdz. flashers.
Try to access recovery from the fastboot screen, pushing 2 times volume down then power.

The phone turn black, blink red once and thats it.
As a sidenote, i can only put it in fastboot or downloadmode after i hold the powerbutton a while before plugging it in. Else the red LED wont blink.
I have no idea then
Have you tried to put it in fastboot without plugging it in? Volume down + Power button when the phone is off.

No response from the phone. Can it be a batteryproblem since the red LED flashes shortly when plugged in and entering fastboot/download mode or trying to open the recovery?
Maybe. Leave it charging for a while and try again.
My father always lets his phone die out of battery and he leaves it off for a while like that. When trying to power it back on, or when plugging it to the charger, the led flashes just like you described. It's not an OG, but it may be something similar what's happening to you, since you said you left it for quite some time turned off.
Okay, i will try to leave it over night. It will sit in the charger for 6 hours before my next check.
Try to upgrade/recovery with LG support tool in download mode

It would still not turn on. Tried multiple chargers and leaving the phone in for a long time. I got a new battery on the way.
Sometimes it helps to hold the power button a bit longer.

I held the powerbutton down for multiple minutes. Still no response. I ordered a new battery from Ebay. Hoping this would fix the issue. The battery have a expected delivery this week. Will update the thread with the results.
Hope it works :good:

I tried everything. Really. Every possible combination of buttons, chargers and cables. The phone would only give a response when plugging it in. So i expect it to be a charging problem with the current battery.

what was the outcome with the new battery?
im an currently experiencing an issue that sounds much the same as this, difference is that i was using the teenybin software and the HS shutdown halfway through the update, and now will not do a thing other than blink the RED LED when i hold the power button down whilst pugged into charger
also to mention, the battery life on the HS prior to this was reasonable..
Just a couple days ago, my power button on my galaxy nexus started to act really weird. When i press it, the screen would shut off (as usual) and then a minute later, the screen would turn on again as if someone pressed it.
Later on, the power button started to have problems. The symptoms included not turning the screen off when needed and pressing really hard to shut off the screen.
And then this morning, the screen shut off and I pressed the power button again. Phone didn't turn on at all. So I took out my battery, plugged the phone with the USB cable into a power outlet, put my battery back in and tried turning it on. Instead of turning it on to the usual Google sign, it went to a white centered battery sign showing that it is being charged.
I tried turning on again, by pressing Power + Volume on the phone. No use. Tried again to take out battery, SIM card even, plugged the phone into a computer and plugged the battery back in. No use. I also left it charging and plugged out my cell/battery to let it rest for 4 hours. No use.
I bought this phone a month ago and it worked all fine until this week. Seriously missing this phone. What is wrong with it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Sounds like the power button is broke.

Maybe an app recently installed. It can turn on the screen and turn off when the app want, and can freeze your phone. Check your latest installed applications and then tell us...

I ran my battery all the way down last night. Left the phone on the wall charger overnight and it is not responsive. Tried to turn it on using all combinations of powers button and volume buttons. When the phone is connected to a pc it doesn't recognize it. But when I try to power the phone on while connected, the pc makes the sounds indicating something is connected.
Any ideas? Thanks.

Leave is connected to a powered PC port for a couple hours. Not sure why but I've had luck bringing devices back from beneath the cutoff voltage level using low amperage charging. Heck my best recovery charging port has been the USB port on my cable box.

Make sure you are using the original power adapter.

Thanks for the replies. I am using the OEM cable. I've tried putting it on power using the wall charger. I've also tried using a PC. I've tried the bright light trick. I've tried pressing both volume buttons, one volume button, the other volume button. I've tried power button by itself. I think I've pretty much bricked my phone. I'm willing to listen to other suggestions

Must be that time of the month.. this happened to me last night.
Left the house around 90%, phone was getting pretty hot.. So I rebooted, twice.. still hot.. so I turned it off for 15 minutes. It was still pretty warm after that, but I decided to turn it on again. When it came up, I was at 18%!. So I sent a couple of texts, and just turned it off thinking I would be able to turn it on later. No such luck. OEM charger does nothing, I plugged into laptop for 20 minutes, nothing.. So I left it on the charger overnight. I still have nothing this morning. Going to leave it on a PC USB port for awhile and see what happens..
Is there an official process for getting your phone back up??
I'm rooted, unlocked, s-off.. so I'm worried if I go to Verizon (it's only been 50 days), they'll discover that if they get my phone back up.
Left mine on the charger over night and held the power down as I took it off the charger seemed to do the trick.

Does anyone know if there's any way I can get my phone to turn on?! When I plug the charger into the phone, nothing is happening. Usually the battery animation would show but just blank screen. Have tried pressing the power button and holding it too but nothing is happening. Please help! I do not root my phone so i'm not sure what's going on. I have also test the outlet using other chargers too.
Hold the power button and the volume up button when it's connected to a charger. If this don't solve your problem RMA the phone and get a new one.

I tried everything. But I'm getting a replacement sent so I guess it's all good. Don't know what the hell happened to my phone. I knew it was out of battery and it never decided to turn back on again.
