Received my Gnex from the play store this afternoon. It's been sitting on the wall charger for about an hour now and the phone still does not power up. Do I need to be worried?
Does the battery charging icon show up while it's charging?

Heh...yes, the battery is indeed in the phone but that's a good thing to verify!
I tried holding the power button for 20 seconds. Then did the same with the power button and up/down volume buttons held in for about 20 secs. Nothing at all.
Uh uh there's somethig wrong. It should have powered right on up. Most batteries come with a 50% charge. I'd contact Google and make em exchange it.

Try plugging it into a PC. See if that works. You can also hold Volume up + power (could be volume down + power...) and that opens the device in recovery mode.
Basically just try anything you can to change the way the device starts up. Try a different power outlet as well. Failing all those... Yes; you have a problem. I would attempt to return the device. There are ways of fixing a bricked Nexus, but there are no easy ways of fixing a Nexus that won't accept a charge.
EDIT: Reason why I'm asking you to plug it into a PC is because possibly only the wall plug is broken.
Hmmmmm....okay so I took the battery out with it plugged into the charger (which is something I had not done yet) and when I put the battery back in, the charging icon showed up for a few seconds but the phone still wouldn't power on. So I took the battery out again with the phone still plugged in and reinstalled it. Battery icon came back and then I was able to power on with the power button.
Very weird and somewhat concerning but I guess I'll see how it goes here.
Thanks for the quick and helpful replies everyone.

So I've had a my Galaxy Nexus for some time now. I'm rooted and I was running AOKP with absolutely no issues what so ever.
Then out of the blue my phone wouldn't charge when it was turned on, so I had to power down to charge. When this finally stopped and I actually COULD charge while powered on, when I would disconnect from the wall outlet the phone would continue to display the bolt icon and say charging - an issue which I could never solve.
Then the next day the Power Button stopped responding all together and the screen would not power down because I have settings configured to keep the screen on whilst charging, and as the phone was under the illusion it was still charging this meant the screen would never turn off. Other than those two issues the rest of the phone worked perfectly.
But eventually constant powering of the screen whilst ACTUALLY off charge killed the battery. So, obviously, I plugged it in. And all I get is the white charging indicator of the large battery and the bolt inside, I cannot boot beyond this because of the irresponsive power button but the animation shows me that the battery is charging and I imagine it is full at this point.
Reading through some forums online for the past few days a reoccurring suggestion appeared to be unscrewing the back and checking the connections to the power button - but upon trying this I managed to get out 5 of the 6 screws and unfortunately failed and rounded the final one off.
I really need help you guys. My phone is my life and on it at the moment are lots of important files. Any suggestions are appreciated greatly.
I'm only worried to send the phone to either Samsung or my Carrier because it is rooted and because of the rounded screw, surely my warranty is voided now? and I can't unroot because the power button is dysfunctional. The only good thing I think is that the fact I see the charging indicator tells me that the phone is not bricked, but how can I get onto it without a power button?
I only need the phone booted up so that I can restore my data and at least attempt to unroot. HELP PLEASE HELP!
Try to boot into recovery by pressing the power bottom and both volume up and down. And try a fresh install of the ROM also try not using the keep screen on feature as it uses a lot of battery and takes longer to fully charge. And you can burn the screen with that feature turn on.

My power button isn't responding. All that happens is when I connect it to power I see the white charging indicator - tells me its not bricked - however, a couple of times I've help the power button trying to boot it and it boots into ODIN MODE but then where its says start and points to the power button, I press it and nothing. It's totally irresponsive about 99.99999% of the time:/
When ever you start having issues with a ROM it could be an app or a setting in the ROM features causing issues a fresh install can sometimes fix it. I would keep trying to see if you can boot in to the recovery and flash something. With one screw being mess with I can see Verizon charging you for a replacement unless you have the extended warranty. Which is still 100 $ to use. Good luck.

That would mean booting would it not? I have no power button:/ I just need the phone to boot, that's all. I can get some vital data from it then and send it back
If you can get it to be recognized by USB
adb reboot bootloader
From there follow the guides to get back to stock via fastboot once you get back stock
fastboot oem lock.
Then try warranty if your problems still exist.

Does the phone not have to be booted to be recognised by USB? Plus I'm running a Mac, I know you guys hate Macs
I actually have the same problem. Running the blackice ROM. I absolutely love the ROM but i have to keep switching chargers and/or hoping it will charge. Had to take battery completely out and put it on one of those wall things. Have done a compete wipe and reinstall but didn't change. It's not charging when plugged in but it's not charging either. Just goes from discharging to not charging in the about phone stats..

The phone is charging, I just can't get it to boot due to the power button not working. I just mentioned all of the symptoms for the sake of being detailed to get the best help
Before all that was is just randomly powering off and rebooting? Mine did that yesterday a few times before the charge issue. at the moment mine says "charging usb" earlier it was "not charging" and "charging ac" an using the original cord. I'm asking because now I'm all worried I'm going to be having same issue as you. like symptoms ya know? I hope not because i have FINALLY found a ROM i love. And I'm a serial flasher lol

Yeah, on the AOKP it would do random quick reboots, going straight from the Pink AOKP Unicorn then back into the OS. Quite annoying

If it boots into ODIN mode and you're _just_ pressing power, that means you probably have an error where it thinks your VOLUME DOWN button is being pressed, not the power button.
You have to do a battery pull to get out of ODIN mode, btw.
Let us know: what happens if you boot into ODIN, pull the battery, and then just boot up pressing power....
No one else sees the trend ?
All of the people having this issue are running AOKP (or a kang of it(blackice)).
Funny how that works eh ?

I've never been able to replicate this boot, and holding VOLUME DOWN doesn't do anything either
Hello all!
Well last night my phone fully ran out of battery. So normally I would charge it but this time there was no red led, I thought it was normal so I left it overnight to charge but in the morning it wouldn't turn on.
I don't think its my fault so I might send it for a replacement.
Is there any other way to turn it on?
Thanks.
Try different charger.

Well I tried charging other devices and it worked. I'll try with another charger.
Have you tried holding down the power putton and volume button together to force a reset?
Same problem here.
Phone ran flat and now wont charge, the red LED does not come on.
Tried different chargers, tried via USB and tried power reset, all to no avail.

I'll give it a go, I'll try for 15 secs.
Sorry that should be hold volume down button then hold power button as well. This is the htc official hardware reset method from their website and it worked for me when my phone wouldn't turn on or charge.
Other advice from them is to hold the power button down on its own for 15 seconds.

Hello!
I dropped my LGOG E975 and the screen has cracked. The upper half would still work. But i could not turn the phone off. So i let the battery run dry. When i came back from vacation, approx. a month after, i sent it in to change the screen. It got changed, but now it has another problem:
It wont turn on! At the store they said they could not get the phone to boot. I took it to a charger and while holding the volumebuttons it showed the LG logo for a second, then blinked red a couple of times. This happend twice. Now if i hold the power button for 15 seconds and plug it in, it will quickly blink a red light.
What to do? I suspect it's something with the software.
FIY i unlocket the bootloader, rooted and installed a recovery. Dont remember which one tho'.
Update:
I can now enter fastboot or download mode. But the phone wont be found by kdz. flashers.
Try to access recovery from the fastboot screen, pushing 2 times volume down then power.

The phone turn black, blink red once and thats it.
As a sidenote, i can only put it in fastboot or downloadmode after i hold the powerbutton a while before plugging it in. Else the red LED wont blink.
I have no idea then
Have you tried to put it in fastboot without plugging it in? Volume down + Power button when the phone is off.

No response from the phone. Can it be a batteryproblem since the red LED flashes shortly when plugged in and entering fastboot/download mode or trying to open the recovery?
Maybe. Leave it charging for a while and try again.
My father always lets his phone die out of battery and he leaves it off for a while like that. When trying to power it back on, or when plugging it to the charger, the led flashes just like you described. It's not an OG, but it may be something similar what's happening to you, since you said you left it for quite some time turned off.
Okay, i will try to leave it over night. It will sit in the charger for 6 hours before my next check.
Try to upgrade/recovery with LG support tool in download mode

It would still not turn on. Tried multiple chargers and leaving the phone in for a long time. I got a new battery on the way.
Sometimes it helps to hold the power button a bit longer.

I held the powerbutton down for multiple minutes. Still no response. I ordered a new battery from Ebay. Hoping this would fix the issue. The battery have a expected delivery this week. Will update the thread with the results.
Hope it works :good:

I tried everything. Really. Every possible combination of buttons, chargers and cables. The phone would only give a response when plugging it in. So i expect it to be a charging problem with the current battery.

what was the outcome with the new battery?
im an currently experiencing an issue that sounds much the same as this, difference is that i was using the teenybin software and the HS shutdown halfway through the update, and now will not do a thing other than blink the RED LED when i hold the power button down whilst pugged into charger
also to mention, the battery life on the HS prior to this was reasonable..
Just a couple days ago, my power button on my galaxy nexus started to act really weird. When i press it, the screen would shut off (as usual) and then a minute later, the screen would turn on again as if someone pressed it.
Later on, the power button started to have problems. The symptoms included not turning the screen off when needed and pressing really hard to shut off the screen.
And then this morning, the screen shut off and I pressed the power button again. Phone didn't turn on at all. So I took out my battery, plugged the phone with the USB cable into a power outlet, put my battery back in and tried turning it on. Instead of turning it on to the usual Google sign, it went to a white centered battery sign showing that it is being charged.
I tried turning on again, by pressing Power + Volume on the phone. No use. Tried again to take out battery, SIM card even, plugged the phone into a computer and plugged the battery back in. No use. I also left it charging and plugged out my cell/battery to let it rest for 4 hours. No use.
I bought this phone a month ago and it worked all fine until this week. Seriously missing this phone. What is wrong with it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Sounds like the power button is broke.

Maybe an app recently installed. It can turn on the screen and turn off when the app want, and can freeze your phone. Check your latest installed applications and then tell us...
