Since you're on an international forum, technically the phone doesn't work with any 4G carrier. 4G is defined as LTE or better. It's an HSPA+ phone capable of 21MB throughput on a compatible 3G network. Only in the U.S. is HSPA+ called 4G but what AT&T and T-Mobile are using is in fact 3G. They are the only two GSM carriers in the U.S. T-Mobile U.S. uses AWS (1700/2100) which isn't compatible with either One X (or most other phones). Their refarming their network so that data can be carried in the 1900Mhz spectrum. At that point most GSM phones will be compatible. But by the time their done the Two X will be out.
The Evo 4G which is a totally different phone supporting CDMA and LTE would work on VZW as they're a CDMA carrier also. Whether they carry a version of it or not is anyone's guess. Other than running Sense 4.0 and having a Qualcomm chip there's little in common between the One X's and the Evo 4G.
Thanks Barry.

Didn't even know I was on a international forum. I thought xda was mainly only US.

LTE isn't 4G either.
"Although marketed as a 4G wireless service, LTE as specified in the 3GPP Release 8 and 9 document series does not satisfy the technical requirements the 3GPP consortium has adopted for its new standard generation, and which are set forth by the ITU-R organization in its IMT-Advanced specification."
But it is a forerunner technology(4G candidate system), along with HSPA+.

I personally believe that the term 4G should be discontinued and we should only refer to the actual cell technology instead of what is now a marketing term.

I agree and knew by strict definition LTE as it's currently implemented isn't 4G. But, especially in the U.S., it's confused the hell out of people so to say HSPA+ isn't 4G and that even what's closest (LTE) isn't either would just confuse them further. LTE's a lot closer to 4G than it is to 3G where HSPA+ has nothing to do with 4G at all.

Given the fun and FUD surrounding the AT&T-Mobile merge, does anyone know of an Android phone that can play 3g on *anyone's* GSM network? I noticed that the crApple Ipuke 4 has 4 3g bands (presumably so they can have "One SKU to connect them all") Are there any Droids with that capability?
There are some phones listed as "Coming Soon" under the tmo site that have all bands. I'm not sure that any are available at this time.

So far the only phone capable of ALL GSM Bands is Nokia N8. No Android or Windows or the Apple is capable of doing so as of now... iPhone doesn't support 1700...
AT&T might have such a phone in future if the merger ever happens... And man, that will be an awesome feeling to have a phone of my choice of OS and I don't have to bother being restricted with one career...
I am worried, if Canada will ever see that phone... :-(
The Samsung Vibrant has the 1900 band which works for AT&T (AT&T use 850,1900), so it may cover all area, but it works in NYC

Lol cell phone career giving you choice? Thats the best joke i have ever heard
Not sure what the original question is exactly, because GSM is really only one band around 900 Mhz. My understanding is this is normally used for EDGE, and 3G speeds / HSPA usually occurs only on the much higher frequencies.
And technically speaking, there is no GSM in the Americas, only in Eurasia. Here we have 850Mhz which should be referred to as CLR not GSM.
But if you're talking about Android phones that are 3G capable on both AWS frequencies (T-Mobile) and PCS (AT&T, Bell), check out the newly-announced LG G2X. Appears to have frequency bands for both, as well of course as CLR (Edge speeds).
The iPhone 4 does *NOT* have such a radio.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UMTS_frequency_bands
The N1 has you covered on most bands, but not quite all of them. By the time the merger goes through, though, there will probably be more and better options.

Hahaha very funny, isn't it? Well, its not... cuz you obviously didn't get the point... Its not a choice given by career, its about the the contracts you have to go with... and if there ever is a phone which can support all the frequencies, it will give an option to switch between any GSM providers. Currently it is only possible with Nokia N8...
The G2x should support all popular bands.

They are both the same. EVDO is a protocol of 3G.
To explain a little further
Verizon network = CDMA
AT&T = GSM
3G for CDMA networks use EVDO
3G for GSM networks use EDGE

Exactly right. And to my understanding, EVDO has theoretical lower data speeds than GSM 3G.
So does this go for all CDMA phones...Sprint and Verizon? Do they use the same 3G bands so (theorectically) a Verizon 3G phone should work on Sprint 3G?

Yeah, but you have to know someone that works at sprint.
if you know someone at sprint get them to activate your phone's serial number on the sprint network. Something sprint frowns upon, and most local stores wont do it for you. But yeah its possible, just not worth the effort.
It would be easier to get on metro pc's network then sprints
Most cdma phones support both 3G bands but some only support one band.
Are you planning to do this to your incredible?

I'm thinking about trying it with my Incredible 2. I just wanted to make sure it (Incredible 2) supports EvDo...because I know thats is what Sprint uses for 3g.
Sounds like it would work *if* I could get the esn registered.
Thanks for the help!
Yeah, when I used to work for [well-known retailer redacted], it was really easy for us to do with the automated system--but that was back in olden days, when a tri-mode phone (on VZW) was a Feature. When I later worked for [different well-known retailer redacted], it was still possible for us to do it if we could get in touch with cooperative sprint reps, but it wasn't nearly as trivial.
More recently, talking to one of my acquaintances who currently works in mobile retail (ha!), I got the impression that it was sort of like the iPhone on T-mo was--they've been hurting for so long that they're willing to look the other way, even if it's officially frowned upon.
i need to set something on network setting ?
thanks
The tegra 3 model does not work on 4G networks. Tegra 3 is currently incompatible with LTE hence the reson why HTC went with the S4 chipset for the 4G variant.

LTE isn't true 4G either.
I've found 21Mbps 3G to be quite adequate.

Agreed. I believe the 4G standard is like 100MB/s or something like that. But LTE is less BS then extended 3G (4G HSPA+).
Will the international HTC one x work with T-Mobile 4g?
Thanks in advance!

I was told no it will not. So, I went and got a prepaid Verizon Jetpack Hotspot because using their wifi is actually LTE...not bad with a $25 prepaid AT&T card

Tmo in the US uses 1700 MHz for its 4g data afaik which is not compatible with the Intl. One X. You will not be able to use 4g data.
Tmobile doesn't really have 4g out yet, they do promise to roll out LTE later. If you wait for winter quarter 2012, Tmobile promised that they will refarm 1900 for HSPA , therefore the international HOX will be able to run its 3g speed on Tmobile, which is 21mbps I think.
T-Mobile HAS BEGUN the process of refarming their 1900 mHz band to HSPA+. That being said, there are still many places that only get EDGE service on the One X. It will take some time to complete the refarming process.

I just switched away from T-Mobile due to their coverage map being a bit....optimistic. None of the major us carriers support 4g yet. What they call 4g is actually more like 3.9g. It is more correct to call it LTE than 4g. Having said that, the global hox supports most of the frequencies that tmobile uses, just not in the way that T-Mobile uses them. The best you can get with a global hox on T-Mobile is 2G. My suggestion is to use att or an att compatible prepay carrier. You can get their 3g network which usually has decent seed.

42Mbps Of course that's only theoretical though, but that's what they advertise their HSPA+ network as in the largest cities.
I have done an extensive search both on Google and XDA Developers, and could not find an answer to my question.
I know that Samsung has released an LTE compatible version of the S3, the I9305 (LTE 800 / 1800 / 2600). So my question is, when the LTE network becomes available and more prevalent for T-mobile, will I be able to get LTE speeds with an unlocked I9305 S3? Thanks.

As I recall, T-Mobile doesn't offer LTE. Or maybe they have started recently and I just haven't realized it. But nonetheless, you can use the i9305, on T-Mobile seeing as it is an unlocked gsm phone. So it'll go as fast as T-Mobile will let it.
EDIT: Just kidding, T-Mobile DOES have 4G LTE, supposedly the fastest out there too.

That's not all there is to it... They launched LTE-Advanced right off the bat. It is highly optimized over LTE revision 0.
OP, you would not even get HSPA+ on that phone if there isn't support for the 1700 band but you definitely will not get LTE based on the bands you posted.

Thanks for all the responses, this is good to know. I was always leery about unlocked phones claiming to be LTE compatible... this is why I would prefer buying a t-mobile specific LTE phone so I am 100% certain I will get LTE speeds.

T-Mobile is unique because they use the AWS 1700 band for LTE and 3G/HSPA. Verizon and at&t use 700MHz for their LTE which is the problem. We should start seeing a bunch of phones launch with AWS LTE this year. I would just wait and see what comes down the pipeline.
