Is it safe to change the 1080p bitrate? How do you do so properly?
My goal is to increase the videocam quality.

The default for h264 1080p is 12000000 (12Mbps). From a quick search it looks like the bitrate for the iPhone is 25Mbps.
Two values need to be changed:
Bitrate for 1080p in camera 0 section and the max bitrate of the h264 codec lower down in the file.
Setting it to 25 crashes the camera. 20 works and is confirmed to be working when checking video properties in Windows.
The quality improvement is questionable. Still looks like **** compared to iPhone 1080p samples I saw on YouTube.
The 1080p videos on the Nitro almost look like they're interlaced! Anyone else notice this?
More importantly we need to fix the spastic focus asap!

i render my work related video to h264 weekly. a 25mbs bitrate isn't noticeable on streaming video and is overkill. the 1080p vid samples that came preinstalled on my nitro were mind-blowing quality. i've also streamed youtube hd on mine and it looked stellar. i've also streamed youtube hd and it looked like hammered ****.

I've never attempted to take a video before on my phone. Right now my camera app won't even open, haha. I'll let you know when I can manage to make it work...
---------- Post added at 11:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:45 PM ----------
I just noticed that when selecting 1080p, it creates videos with the wrong resolution - 1920x1088 (instead of 1920x1080). Perhaps there is some wonky scaling going on in the vertical resolution which is what is causing that banding effect.
And yes, I am also seeing the same "interlacing" effect in videos I take with my phone. The effect does not appear at 720p or 480p.
The framerate is so abysmal at 1080p, I don't know why I'd ever use it anyway. 720p seems pretty good though.

I've seen the 1088 vertical resolution on other phones, doubt that's the problem. Maybe someone who knows a lot more what's going on can chime in.
Shouldn't both 720p and 1080p be 30fps when it comes to framerate?

Okay, so I have been watching videos from the full YouTube site and they work perfectly on 720p. When I play the videos on 1080p, the videos lags, giving me something like 1 FPS. Is there a solution to this problem? Is it something with the phone or is it YouTube's problem? If anyone has any sort of insight on this problem, please post. Before we had root in the first days of the sgs2, i was able to watch 1080 videos wonderufully on YT also, epicmealtime fyi. I tried it today and the stock browser lags. =/
Why? Why do you need to see 1080P videos on a screen that only does 480P? And of course it'll lag it's running on flash on a website not optimized for mobile. Geez this is a phone not a desktop gaming rig.
It's not your phone it's youtube it's self. Youtube has always lagged on 1080p videos. My desktop has problems with it and I have 8 gig ram. Intel i7 sandy bridge with AMD Radeon HD 6990. Ever since youtube upgraded their interface it has been plagued with problems. My connection is 20 down 5 up.
The phone can run hi 10bit 1080p blue ray h.264 mkv videos with the lowest and highest encode possible with out losing frames. Which looks better than anything you can possibly stream. There is nothing on youtube worth watching in 1080p most videos are upscaled anyway. Which really isn't 1080p anyway.

Oh I see. I've never taken the time to do it but are there the correct number of lines of resolution on the 1080p video? Regardless, it seems like a cheat to increase the resolution on a smaller field of view than to give us the full widescreen image at the same resolution. I heard it has something to do with only part of the sensor being used for 1080p (the inner portion) so while it looks zoomed, it's really not. The bitrates are higher - for what it's worth.

Eh, if it's "true" 1080p, it's outdone by the 720p setting, which defeats the purpose of advertising 1080p.
Technically 1080p, realistically, not what you expect from 1080p recording.
Anybody upload to PC both 720 and 1080 of the same scene and does it still crop the 1080 when viewed on the PC monitor ,for example maybe we are not seeing the whole picture and the edges that got cropped will return when viewed on a hi Res monitor .. just a theory I hope is true

I'm pretty sure that when recording 1080p the preview window shows the 720p or (more likely) WVGA square in the center of the actual 1080p video. My theory is that it might be a little too much to ask to both record 1080p at a reasonable frame-rate and to do realtime scaling for the preview at the same time.
....when viewing my videos on my monitor they sure don't look as zoomed in and wacky as they do when capturing.
edit: The 1080p really does look fantastic if you have great lighting and DO NOT MOVE THE PHONE AT ALL. The scene can be very high motion, just don't move the scene....the tearing/warping is horrrrible.

720 is real nice with almost zero lag. While 1080p has ghosting/lag effect with moving objects.
I had 3 different epics and they are all the same-1080 recording is uselless, they probably included that option to market epic but in real life it doesnt work good.

I did trim the video with the inbuilt trim feature in the video edit option it saved the video as 3gp could this have lowered the quality? Im not to clued up on this stuff but I thought it normally records in mp4 so either the trim option has converted it to 3gp or possibly slow mo is captured in 3gp to keep down the file size?
Ive just checked and the video trim has resaved the video in 3gp it was originally captured in mp4 not that this appears to have made much difference to the quality.
Im guessing at 8x slow mo it is recording at 240fps and because of the high frame capture there has to be a reduction in quality to make it possible.

It still wouldn't affect the quality of the video by much in the Note's screen.
It won't be good only when viewing in a computer or tv in full screen.
I hear people are not that pleased with the slow motion resolution but personally I think its great for a bit of fun. Sure not good enough for a professional production but its not meant for that. On the phone it looks fine... it was my favourite feature on an old LG viewty I had years ago and wow the resolution on that in slow mo mode was bad this looks crystal and very impressive in comparison. I know you cant really compare the 2 but it shows how nicely things have moved on.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
This feature is not meant for serious work, it's just a gimmick, a toy to enhance movierecording in the phone. If you really want you can bump up the resolution to full HD on the computer via thirdparty plugins in After Effects or Premiere Pro.

If you thought it would be different you had unreasonable expectations. A GoPro 2, which has a much larger sensor than the Note 2 and more dedicated hardware, can do 120FPS at 848x480p. $3500 DSLRs like the 5D Mk III can't even take video at more than 30 FPS! To think that a cell phone camera could take high resolution, slow motion video is just ignorant.
Whatever, I like this slow motion thingy.

Can you or any one else post slow mo videos somewhere else cause youtube is blocked in my country?
you guys need to get off the n2's nuts.
i didn't know it's so taxing on hardware for video to be recorded in slow motion. that is disappointing.
it's an interesting feature but it seems counter productive to the huge screen of the note2 since it can't be viewed in hd on it.
Here is my test on the slow motion function.
Have fun!
(Since I cannot post outside links yet, here is the info for the video
vimeo(dot)com(slash)62170068
Youtube(dot)com(slash)watch?v=TnMH_N2fSOA
Notes: When I was editing the video I saw some blur on the images, this makes me think that the camera don't actually captures 240 frames per second, but instead what it does is duplicate some of the frames and create a ghosting effect.
I need to do more technical tests to see the actual capture rate frame of the camera.
Can anyone try something for me? Can you grab the camera apk off the note 2 so I can try it on the samsung mega? The mega does not have, irritatingly so, the slow mo feature. Has to be the 4.2 camera app version since the mega is running 4.2. Thanks.

You can't adjust the Resolution at all.
It's always 720*480 for Note 2 and S4 Zoom; 800*450 for S4 and for Note 3; and S5, Z2, F7, K Zoom(aka S5 Zoom) and the newer ones, it's HD 1280*720p.

So it wasn't trully 4K... Or was REALLY compressed. A 4K camera has a record rate of around 45 Mb/s. That times 60 seconds, or 1 Min, is already 2700 Mb.
And even if MX Player couldn't play it smoothly, that has an awesome hardware render tool, then no app will be able to do that.
Your friends are never going to believe what you did. The only way to prove it to them is with that video you took. Rate this thread to express how videos shot on the OnePlus 3 come out. A higher rating indicates that videos are smooth (and not choppy) and that auto-focus works very well, and that the camera adjusts quickly to different lighting conditions while recording.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Video quality is okay, nothing great. The stabilization could be better. I also don't like that there is no 1080p/60 option.

You got any sample? And i think none of the latest flagships support 1080p60fps, dont know why
Techradar said you can record 1080p 60fps with other camera app, like open camera.
Anyone can test it?
Thanks

I gave open camera a shot and set it to 60fps, it doesn't actually do it, sadly enough. I've tried it both at the default bitrate (~20) and forced it to 5 mbit, both on the old api and the new camera2 api, nothing.
I'm not entirely certain what OP's reasoning behind no 60fps recording is anyway, I hope they'll add it in an update since AFAIK there's no hardware limitations which wouldn't allow it.

Htc 10, lg g5, htc 10, nexus 6p, xiaomi mi 5, none of these offer 60fps. Actually i think of all recent flagships only s7 is capable, i dont know reasons behind this decision of oems
I have an old hardware Zuk Z1 (snapdragon 801, same hardware as oneplus one) and it CAN record great quality 1080p 60fps.
With my Zuk I have low cost phone with great battery, very good responsive, customizable software, and a video resolution I CAN'T GET WITH NEW 2016 FLAGSHIPS.
incomprehensible.
Specially because that is the only reason I don't renew my phone.
But I would be happy to buy oneplus 3 of they add full HD 60fps non slowmotion video recording.
Hope they add it.
Anyone can test Video Recording in a really Loud environment?
Like for example a Rave or Concert?
Since the OPO, OP2 and the OPX all had serious issues with audio clipping on such occasions im very curious if OnePlus finally fixed this issue in theyre newest phone

Video quality is okayish. OIS is not reliable on video and the sound is not processed properly.

Yeah the software needs improvement and the noise cancellation is way too aggressive, I was only able to bump up the audio for the background noise and not disable the noise cancelation. Of course I did that after taking the video
But 1080p60 is possible

THIS! My OnePlus one always made it sound like I was recording constant farting no matter what festival/club I went too. Switched to an iPhone 6 Plus and never had any audio distortion no matter how loud the music was...

There is temp fix for that issue
what iv understood that someone said, that these mobile phone processors cant go constant 60fps video like gopro can. I had it on oneplus1 with Sultan-ROM and fps seemed to fluctuate somehwere between 59fps and 60fps (bsplayer with the i in the upper right corner, it had FPS counter) and i think i saw some small stuttering sometimes.. it looked almost like it were running too fast, hard to compare(and i dont have gopro) but it would be really cool to have it do like gopro but its probably gonna need own chip to make video.. (im not an expert on this matter, just what iv noticed) in the end i just recorded 4k so my daughter can enjoy 4k videos when he's all grown up. 4k downscaled into 1080p is _REALLY_ sharp compared to normal 1080p mode where native 1080p almost looked like youtube quality at 1080p and 4k downscaled to 1080p looked like ripped BR-movie with 11Gb/2hrs .. really crisp.

Yes, the video quality is quite good. However the sound is pretty bad, when the music gets too loud, I'll try to upload some examples if I get some time today after work

thanks, so it seems that oneplus did not change anything about the microphone clipping?
will wait for sample videos tho. Thank you already
After 3.2.2?
Is the video recording quality/audio when recording fixed after the 3.2.2 update? Planning on buying this phone over the upcoming note7/s7 edge. I like the touchwiz interface but not the Samsung bloatware apps like their keyboard/gear manager etc..
I shoot alot of 1080p video I don't think I will ever shoot videos at 4K
For 1080p is the OP3 video quality good enough?
Thanks guys
