sounds like a hardware problem. could be a fuse thats gone on the circuit board.
i read about this sometime ago on the internet, but luckily for the guy he just unrooted his phone back to stock and took it in under warranty.

[Q] Rooted G2 Sent to HTC

I broke my first G2 after 6 months of use. Its rooted and everything and while it looks almost new with no physical defects the problem is that the screen won't display any color - just all pitch black backlight. So I called t-mobile and they are sending me a brand new g2 while I send my broken one to HTC for repair. Anyone been in the same situation as me? It's not like they would reprimand my new phone if they see that I rooted the broken G2

Well... if T-Mobile finds out you moded you phone. You will pay 200+ bucks. I just hope they don't find out

Who knows. I will say that I have never heard of anyone getting charged as long as there was no water damage. Please let us know how it goes.

Worked for tmobile. They may charge you a restocking fee if the phone is flagged once it's repaired.

i broke the screen on my Desire z a while back and had to send it to HTC while it was rooted cause i couldnt do a factory reset on it without the screen being on... they fixed it and sent it right back to me with no issues...
my understanding is that the very first thing they do is do a factory reset on the phone just in case the issue is software related...
so as long as u didnt go S-OFF i think you will be fine... make sure to let us know wt happens once u find out...
3 month bump: T-mobile didn't find out anything so I'm good, got a brand new rooted phone. S-off and everything; the screen just didn't work. I wonder what the person who fixed it was thinking....

Bricked, or Broken?

I've had a G2 for a couple of years now that hasn't been working. I've exchanged batteries, but cannot get anything to boot. The phone was having problems with freezing prior to the supposed brick, and the phone is completely stock.
As of now, I have it plugged in via USB and I didn't hear any sort of notification that the computer even recognizes the phone, my other android phones will get picked up with the power off.
Long story short, is there a way to get into "upgrade mode", or something similar that HTC might have? Something from ADB that could trigger the phone to power on in the hardware doesn't power on itself?
Thanks.
EDIT: The charge LED does NOT come on while plugged on to the charger.
well before i say no can you get a battery that you know works and try this first

Try what? I've tried another battery in the past. But shouldn't the LED come on when plugged into USB with or without battery?

Check that the leads on the battery are touching the contacts in the phone properly!

not always, if it were just a weak battery than yes but if it malfunction in some ways than no. our phone need to send power through a working batt to turn on

well chances are you will need to open it up and use a soldering station to fix it then. maybe someone else here has a good tip for you to try but my best guess is it will be sold for parts

HTC is way better imo charging port could be dead.

Stupid thing has water damage..the VOID sticker wasn't where it was supposed to be, but I saw some pink residue from the sticker. I'm gonna take it to see if I can get it fixed. I believe it's worth it, it isn't the first batch of G2's, it was one of the warranty replacements that didn't have those weird issues.
Take a multi meter to the contacts with the phone open. See if any power is getting through.

HOX Didn't Turn On

Last night I woke up in the middle of the night, checked my phone, and it wouldn't turn on. It was plugged into the charger, but no red led was on and it wouldn't turn on at all with the power button.
This morning when I woke up, the phone was back on charging with the red light and was able to turn on. My phone is rooted and flashed an upgraded rom + kernel. Can anyone explain why that happened?
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
oh! s*** same thing happened to me just now. i removed the charging cable tried pitting it in to the boot loader mode but nothing happened, suddenly red light started blinking when i was trying to power it on again and then it powered on and now its charging. i thought it was a loose connection but seems like some other issue. i am on insercoin rom.
With the root u made u will damage your phone...sad but true, thats why "do not root your phone"!

That is in no way true. All of my devices are rooted and have been for ages, no issues. What's probably happened here is that the devices have overheated
Sent from my ARCHOS 80G9 using XDA Premium HD app
That was the case with my unrooted, brand new HOX first time out of the box. It turned out the battery was so flat dead, the phone didn't manage to start.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
I believe it was a kernel issue guys. I had just flashed a kernel that night and it probably had something to do with it.

Well obviously it is not meant to be there so I would suggest that yes it is something to worry about unless you are not bothered by it. Sounds like a dead pixel to me.
Send it back to HTC and they will repair it otherwise just live with it - I doubt it will get worse.
I've heard it goes away as it's more of a tint than a spot tbh.

have it also on my one x when my hox is warm. because i also have the wifi problem the phone is for repair on its way to HTC for both problems.
the next day the spot wasnt really visible. my advice wait untill it gets a bit spot

[Q] Is this one x just gone for good?

Hello, I'm new to this form. Okay so today I traded my galaxy note 1. For a nexus 4 and an HTC one x. I was really excited to see the one x for the first time. The one x is with AT&T. When I took it home and plugged it in the charger the red light on started to flash which I think means the battery doesn't have enough power yet, so I waited until it would be steady. But when I looked at it after about 10mins or so, there was no light at all. Unplugging and plugging back in didn't work. When plugged in for along time it just keeps flashing red for abit then stops (repeatedly). I can't power it on at all or go into bootloader.. Etc.. I've even tried doing the hold volume up and down with power button for 2 minutes, nothing.. So now I'm just thinking it's defective. But before I sent it to HTC to diagnose it, I wanted to see what you guys think it is and how I can possibly fix it. Now the person I got it from said it needed some kind of jtag fix for $50 but idk what this is at all. I'm just hoping to god it isn't the main board that is damaged. The bottom area where the soft buttons are is cracked but it's not serious. Another thing that I'm not sure is normal, is the power button, it feels very soft when I press on it and I can't feel it click at all htc told me this could be normal cause the newer one series phones had soft power buttons. I thought the power button was the issue, but the phone won't even charge. The most I've left it plugged it was about less than an hour, I also saw people saying if you plug it in a computer it can fix it, but Idk how that will solve the issue, I will be going to a friends in the morning to try that though. Anyways that's about all.. I hope that someone can help me with this, and If I can fix it I will be sooo happy! Before I go to bed I will leave it plugged in all night to see what happens. Thanks.

Seems that way, if it does not turn on after hours on charge. And all button combinations don't work either.....then yeah, nothing you can do really.

If i send it to htc they will be able to do something to figure out what's wrong right? I mean everything is fixable.
Sent from my Incredible 4G LTE using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yes everything is fixable, but it might cost you money. If it's not rooted or custom rommed (locked bootloader) then you have the biggest chance on getting warranty.

Hmm. Well is it normal that the power button feels soft and no kind of clicking in it to know weather it is being pressed down or not? Also if the phone is flashing red when charger is plugged in does that mean the port is still okay?
Sent from my Incredible 4G LTE using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Well mine has a little click when i press it. Can't say for other hoxes, haven't had that many in my hand.
Yeah port is fine, my guess it's a hardware fault. Maybe the battery itself is faulty or the battery circuit is not functioning the way it should

I've left it plugged in for about 40m and it's just blinking red every 7 or so mins. My power button I'm afraid is broken.. Maybe that's why I can't get any signs that it can turn on or not.
Sent from my Incredible 4G LTE using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Well the blinking should be static red after a while. Leave it on charge for many hours (8-9) and then try again some button combo's

So I plugged it in my computer and it said it was in a download mode. And the guy I got it from said it needed jtag repair. Which I think that's what it is.
