hi
i have a rogers lumia 900 that disconnects from data if you turn the screen off.. and requires a restart to get the data working again.. though the gsm signals are always full and i can make receive calls and send and receive texts.. only the data is the problem..
even turning airplane mode off and on doesn't get data restarted.. only solution that works is switching the phone off and restarting it
is there a fix for this ? is it software or hardware related?
thanks
I have not experienced this problem. However, I recently started getting LTE in my town. Therefore, I can only speak to my experience using 4G (HSPA+). To narrow down the problem, do you experience this with LTE, 4G( HSPA+ ), 3G, 2G, etc?
Are you using WiFi? I've noticed that sometimes it doesn't hand off well between WiFi and Cellular data. However, the transition is only temporary for me.
Is the phone updated to the latest Nokia firmware? Sounds a lot like the original data bug that Nokia patched and gave everyone $100 for their troubles. Have you connected your phone to a PC and checked Zune for updates.

It seems random when the data connection works and the internet works on my phone. I'll sit there with full 3G signal and i get "cannot find the DNS Server" error when trying to load webpages :S
is this a problem with my Samsung Omnia 7, Windows Phone 7 or my network (Orange UK)?
I have this problem on my HD7 as well. If I have a 3G connection, it doesn't work. It only works on H (HSDPA).
Funnily enough, I had the same issue with my HD2 running WM6.5, which makes me wonder if WP7 is using the same comms drivers.
I have this problem too! A LOT everyday in diferent locations.
Actually how can I enable the HSDPA on my HD7? Because I can only get 3G.
These are just network errors.
I use internet alot and it happens on every device I had.
My WP7 is actually pretty stable in this regard.
Same! Never works on 3g only ever H you sure its just network errors cause it happens alot
YES this is a major problem for me with my Omnia 7, I even got a replacement phone from my carrier (Optus Australia) because of it... and it's exactly the same. It's extremely frustrating and makes the phone damn near unusable. Happens on every device? what a load of rubbish, if I put the SIM in my old iPhone 3GS it works FLAWLESSLY. I don't know what I'm going to do.

Can you explain then, how come a reboot always fixes the problem?

Yep, I have the same problem with my Omnia 7.
On all 3 of the networks i've used it on, T-Mobile, Virgin and GiffGaff.
Only solution is to reboot the phone.
I thing i've noticed, is it seems to happen when I move from an area where I have WiFi access (Home/Work/Cafe) to an area where i'm using a Phone network ?
I think we can only hope that the upcoming WP7 update fixes this. Also it seems enabling airplane mode then disabling it also fixes it in a similar way to rebooting the phone.

I'll make a note of that, cheers!
Im having the same issue with my HD7. Only EVER works on H. Not on G or 3G. It's driving me insane. The exact same sim on the same provider never had an issue on my Touch Pro 2, but this phone is shocking for internet
I get this occasionally on my HD7. Not really an issue right now. It does get annoying sometimes when the wifi in my house isnt strong enough to connect

You do realize that phones switch to H only while they are actively swapping data, then fall back to 3G while dormant, to save battery?
Try it - leave your phone alone for a bit and it will switch from H to 3G. Now access something on the net and it will switch to H (if possible) to get the data, then after a few seconds of inaction it will switch back to 3G.
So yes, it is correct that it only ever works on H!
Mind you, it would be nice if it worked on G too, I'm sure it should but mine never does.
hm i thought the " H " means that i dont get 3G signal.
but i think i had the same problem!
solution:
you only need to turn OFF WIFI
somehow its not using 3G when wifi networks are close,
even if you not connected to one.
turn OFF wifi or maybe only "discover new networks"
turning OFF wifi always brings me 3G back ...
Just to add my experience here...
I have a Samsung Omnia 7 and had never experienced any issues with 3G/H data/internet issues on the 3 network in the UK.
However, I've come over to Australia to visit the folks and have put in a Virgin SIM, now I really struggle with this. The connection just isn't working even with full 3G signal.
As pointed out, toggling my Airplane Mode works most of the time - I guess this is because the phone re-registers itself with the network when you enable>disable airplane mode (just like it would if you rebooted it). Curiously toggling the data connection option seems to have no effect.
Pain in the a*se.
I had connectivity issues with my Samsung Omnia 7. I worked out that my phone was not playing nice with my router and so my wifi connected but didn't actually work.
Also, I found that 3G performance was sub-par and many apps timed out because they were taking so long to get connection.
I solved these problems by flashing a new firmware. It was a little tricky and it is potentially risky, but a quick google will lead you to the relevant information.
I used a European firmware (I am in Australia on Optus), but it works fine. I just had to change all the language settings.
Now my phone's 3G and WiFi connections both work a lot faster (no more waiting for an eternity for the marketplace to open for example).
I have the same problem and read on create.msdn.com it has something to do with how wp7 handles the connections.
If the provider cuts off the connection frequently it loses its 3g signal or something like that. Thats why my push notifications are just unreliable. If I take my sim out and use wifi only. It just works and keeps working as soon as I connect to wifi. When 3g comes into play and the carrier cuts me off because im not actively using, the phone struggles to recconect for push etc.
Hi... posting this in general on the basis it might not be a phone specific issue.
So I can't get the Chat functionality to work when I'm on mobile connection. When I'm on Wifi it works absolutely fine, but on mobile (3G) I just get "Can't connect to Chat".
I have tried everything I can think of, and everything I've read about. I have unlinked my Live and Facebook accounts and relinked them, I have re-entered password info in my account settings and re-synchronized, I have turned off battery saving.
This works on my wife's HTC Trophy on the same mobile network. Only thing I can think of is that I set that phone up manually whereas with the Omnia I use Samsung Network Profile. Haven't tried removing that.
Any other ideas?
Device: Omnia 7
Type: T-Mobile Germany, but registry hack change to MobileOperator to get Mango quicker
Build: Mango (official)
Unlock: Official MS developer unlock on Nodo, assume that transfers to Mango?
Mobile operator: Virgin mobile UK
Thanks

hi im having the exact same problem on my samsung focus, im in colombia and my carrier is movistar, when on wifi chat works fine, but on 3g doesnt work, my brother has a htc surround and works great for him, maybe is a problem with samsung phones
Maybe you guys have poor 3g speeds..
Have you tried a speed test?
Works great on my Focus on ATT...so not a Samsung problem.

What would be an ideal speed on 3G???
Sent from my Samsung Focus using Board Express
Depends, generally at least 2 mbps
Chat should work on a GPRS connection. None of my other chat clients stopped working when this phone got throttled to 10kbps speeds last month.
Keeping an IM connection alive requires extremely little bandwidth, and chat conversations require very little unless you're transferring media.
The speed if their 3g is not.the issue. Most CDMA users don't even get close to a consistent 2mbps down neverming up on their phines yet their IM clients work flawlessly.
I've never had that issue. It may be carrier related.

Maybe you are on power saving mode. If you are this would disable the backgroud agenrs which are needed for chat
Carrier probably has a wireless timeout.
I just fix my problem with the integrated chat on 3g, i did a factory reset and voila, it started to work flawlesly

Did you have that problem with battery saver OFF? Because I can connect when it is OFF but I can't when it is ON, but I'm not sure if that's an issue or just a normal behavior for battery saver mode.
By the way, the speed with Tigo in Bogota is above 3Mb/s

Battery saver mode turns off chat by design.

Hi,
Does anyone have any ideas on a specific problem I have with the One X (on t-mobile - sim only contract in UK)
Had the phone since it first came out and the last 6 weeks I've been unable to send or receive texts while the phone is in 3g (wcdma mode or wcdma/gsm auto). The only way I can receive/send texts and calls is in gsm mode. I've been on the phone with T-Mobile for over an hour making sure my service centre number and network operator is correct and I have no signal issues (mostly full signal).
I've tried turning the wi-fi off to see if that's an issue but it makes no difference. What's weird is that in 3g (wcdma) mode I have no problems with data, so I can use the internet/facebook/twitter apps and upload/download pics and files just fine.
The engineer at T-Mobile (android dept) told me there's a 3g and 2g antenna in the phone and the 3g antenna may be faulty. Sounds plausible but wouldn't that mean no data connection on 3g too? I've also been told to check my micro sim in another phone, which I'll do when a friend comes round (I don't have any other phone that uses micro sims).
I just thought I'd check in here to see if this is a known issue. I've googled and nothing's turned up with this particular problem. Normally it isn't an issue as I use wi-fi for data so just keep the phone in gsm mode. However, when I'm out I swap to 3g sometimes and forget to swap back. I had two days worth of missed calls and texts when I forgot to switch back this weekend
In summary:
gsm mode = texts, calls and internet all working fine (though slow data connection, obviously)
wcdma = no texts or calls but internet fast and working fine.
Any ideas, help or advice would be appreciated. I don't want T-Mobile saying it's a phone problem and HTC telling me it's the network's problem.
The same problem here using a WWE model (no carrier) in Vivo Mobile (Brasil).
No solution until know...

I'm having this connection issues where the phone would show the 3g/4g icon but the connection is really slow( slowest speedtest gave me was 0.01mbps). Im testing with a different provider now but is it possible this is a hardware fault?
Same Problem
I have a similar problem, when I enable Mobile Data, it could not connect, I have to turn Airplane mode ON and then OFF and then Mobile date On to get the Mobile Data... Very Irritating... I hope its SW issue
I have slower connection on 3g and h then previous devices
Well its only 4g giving troubles now, is 4g and 3g on one chip or a seperate chip?
Try cleaning cache of your browser
Don't think its browser related because its systemwide. Plus i tries a factory reset already
I've gotten this as well from time to time. Doesn't seem related to whether or not I'm transitioning from Wi-Fi to 4g or not.

I'm getting the same and came on here specifically to see whether it was just me.
These are the symptoms: it seems to happen when I transition from a WiFi network to mobile data network. The data icon still shows activity and good signal but internet access is incredibly slow or non-existent in all apps. Toggling in and out of Aeroplane mode fixes it. I am on a 3G SIM, so for now I have tried to turn of 4G mode and see if this fixes it. Will report back.
This is really annoying - my £100 Acer Liquid Metal did this like 3 years ago... I don't expect a modern £500 phone to have this issue.
I love the phone but issues like this aren't acceptable and I'm getting really frustrated to the extent I might even send it back for refund under not fit for purpose.
Also I have problems with unstable network. Has anyone tried to restore the firmware?

I've turned off 4G as I don't have a 4G SIM, so I'm gonna see if this helps resolve the issue. If not, then I'm going to try and flash a different firmware as my handset came with a EUR firmware and there seems to be some differences between this and the UK firmwares. If that doesn't fix it, I'm going to try the AUS firmware which is a later version.
If I get an success or otherwise I'll post back.
I'm noticing that HTTPS traffic always seems to work fine, but standard non-encrypted traffic doesn't. Anyone else? Seems a bit weird.
Hello,
I live in an area (like many of us) there T-mobile service isn't that great. I daily drive through areas with zero service and I have almost no service at my house so we utilize WIFI Calling.
I have been finding for the past few months that when I return to an area of good service (phone showing full bars of 4G or 4G LTE) that I cannot move any cellular data. If I reboot the phone then everything works again for a while. I have tried to toggle into airplane mode and back but this does not help, only a full reboot helps.
Does anyone else get this? Its very annoying to have to reboot the phone when I need to use cellular data. Appreciate some input. Phone is NOT rooted and running the latest available software from T-mobile

It happens all the time for me. I've not been able to figure out why it happens, but I've seen some speculation in other threads where people think it can break when switching between H+, 4G, LTE, etc. Some people have reported that switching to airplane mode and back fixes it, but it doesn't work for me. Only a reboot will fix it for me.
Here is another thread with some discussion on it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6-edge/help/mobile-network-data-connection-drops-t3097605
Thanks for the response. I'm not happy to hear it appears to be happening to everyone. I wonder if any of the carriers have reported this to Samsung?
I cleared the cache partition on my phone 2 days ago and I've been good since...that doesn't mean it fixed it but its been a while since I had 2 good days!
THIS HAPPENS TO ME OMG!!! I thought I was going crazy... it happens quite often in NYC where we travel by subway underground... Switching to Airplane mode then back indeed fix it majority of the time, but it doesn't work sometimes...
Also, this happens when i am on Wifi for extended period of time, and then leave WiFi, the phone will show 4G LTE but wont' push any data.
Going into Phone status will show that you have no IP Address...
edit: btw, i've done an exchange with Tmobile, and still happens on the phone, Swapped SIM card as well, doesn't solve the problem. T-Mobile ran diagnosis, and found nothing wrong. I suspect it might be T-Mobile's network configuration...
Also, I can almost 100% reproduce this when I am playing a game that requires periodic connection (like loading acount info), and then playing in the subway while doing data connection between subway station (we have internet at the station, but not in the tunnel) will break my 4G LTE data connection...
