Hi. Im totally new on rooting and flashing roms and I am hoping to find answers here. Assuming I rooted my phone and wanted to upgrade my software, does it mean I have to flash new software on it? Or can I just use the software update found in "settings>about phone>software update". Im confused wether I can still use the above method the quoted one the moment I root my phone. Thanks in advance.

You can still use the standard method.
Thanks. What a relief. Cheers.

Alright so here we go. I know I'm going to end up getting flamed for this, but whatever. If you could be so kind as to read this entire post and bare with me as I explain my situation, I'd truly appreciate it.
So I got the DInc2 as a replacement for the Droid X2 a couple months ago. I immediately took S-Off and rooted on the first day. I used the "Downgrade with H-Boot .98" to downgrade and all was smooth.
After some time and a lot of flashing, my phone became cluttered and started having weird issues. So a few days ago I decided to return to stock 2.3.4 with software version 6.01.XXX. I did that and have had nothing but trouble trying to reroot and get things back to what they were.
My confusion is that I still have S-Off after using PG32IMG to get back to 2.3.4 and I updated the software version to the latest (6.01.605.05 710RD) and I'm not too clear on how to reroot.
Since I already have S-Off, do I just have to flash a recovery and SU Binary? Or do I need to to downgrade or something else?
Thanks to all who respond. I'm sorry this is so noobish. :silly:
Since you are S off you are correct in just needing to flash a recovery and su zip.

That is all? No need to downgrade? Which Su would you recommend?

Did you try turning it off and back on again?
Need a little more info...
The replacement I recieved's firmware can not.be.downgraded for the S-Off root. With the software being 2.3.4, revolutionary will not root. All this.being said, i.have not been able to find a successful way to downgrade. I have tried all the ways I have found on XDA as well as google and the only one they said would work was Tacoroot and I havent been able to get my computer to get it to work.

Tell us where you are getting stuck, I got my dinc2 with the same setup you have and (after swearing a lot and crying a little) I got s-off and am now running ICS. We are here to help. Calm down and breath, the community here is very helpful. Also, read everything VERY carefully, if you don't do everything juuuuust right it won't work for you.

Thank you for the help!! After hours of reaserch I was able to get S-Off and all of it! Very glad but dont want to look.at a computer screen for a week or two.... Lol

My issue was having a shortcut for tacoroot.bin instead of the actual file.

You can actually force SuperUser on with the SU zip file. But, you need to have an unlocked BootLoader.
You can unlock your Bootloader from HTC's DevSite.
There is also a video from someone on YouTube named FlamingAiro. The video was posted June 19th, 2012. It's SUPER easy once you understand.
I would link you but the forum prevents me because I have not made enough posts for outside links.
I already rooted and am currently running cm10

Ah, I appologize; I didn't see you rooted it. My browser glitched out for a second.
Enjoy the root!
Also, a good ROM that has ICS and Sense 4.0 is UKB Evolution 1.1. :3
I have that as well but I'm trying to decide whether to stick with CM10 or sense 4.0.....
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda app-developers app
I think that Sense 4 is a nice OS and that CM10 has a LOT of bugs. It is still in dev form.
Sense 4.0 for the DINC2 (Vivow) is MuCH more stable and has better response. Also, saves your battery.
ok heres my problem.. im on stock recovery with a custom binary counter not 0.. i cant flash a custom recovery, cant obtain root, cant use triangleaway app (to reset counter).. plus im not even sure if im even rooted anymore i have supersu but when i update i cant update the binaries.. when i connect it to a pc, it is invisible to the pc.
could someone please tell me i can be saved somehow? feel free to ask any questions
firmware - T999UVLH2 (when i tried to search for software update, it said i was upto date) which is clearly false cuz there is jellybean
thanks in advance
Flash the stock or root66 firmware in Odin.

When I rooted my galaxy note 2, I couldnt update it... does that mean I have to unroot it when there is android 4.2 update for my galaxy note 2? ??
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Unroot, use triangle away, restore stock recovery if you switched to cwm and factory reset to change from modified to stock

How???
Im still new to these kind of things... I scared later I brick my phone...
If I just unroot it... wont the update work when there is???

If only haha. Once you unroot, the device still says modified because the binary flash counter has increased from 0 to 1 (or higher). That pretty much tells the phone that your device was modified.
There are a few guides around on how to do it. I can't really search at the moment as Im on my phone.

ok...
So If I want to update with samsung when android 4.2 comes out so I have to use triangle away and also unroot it???
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Thats right. Someone mentioned just downloading the file from www.sammobile.com when its released and flashing that with odin.
Im not sure if that works while rooted but may be worth investigating?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Ok... then...
I'll go check it
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
There is guides in this forum relating to your issue, but basically use Triangle Away, then wipe data/cache and it should change your status, though some say it reverts back to modified after time...
I would just leave it rooted. 4.2 based roms will be available here probably long before you would see it getting pushed to your device by your carrier.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Downloading and installing the firmware using ODIN resolves the issue.

Guys... I tried using triangle away...
The binary count wont go lower than 1 but atleast the update is working now...

Ok ...
I flash my device with odin mobile pro and factory reset everything...
Looks it looks new
The binary count and everything else is new and official

Good day have been searching for a way to root it but it seems like its still faulty in some cases, in your opinion wich method would you recommend to root this model?
Thanks for the help.

Use the toolkit in the original development section. It does everything for you. Doesn't get any easier

Thanks for answering, didn't use it because read some posts where people said they bricked their device while using it.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Any bricking was the result of people not paying attention. As long as you can read english , you have nothing to worry about

Cf auto root is extremely easy too

Not so sure about people mistaking it when flashing, the thread is closed right now says that the software cant be distributed in its current form.

I too am leary of rooting due to bricking comments. Have you, or anyone, found a way to get twrp installed on top of "officially updated" 4.2.2 unit?
if so, please post link.
thnx
Just rooted my device with cf's worked great, using 4.1.2 though

i rooted my phone by cf auto root and toolkit. both was working well. but i think cf auto is faster and easier.
