Alright so here we go. I know I'm going to end up getting flamed for this, but whatever. If you could be so kind as to read this entire post and bare with me as I explain my situation, I'd truly appreciate it.
So I got the DInc2 as a replacement for the Droid X2 a couple months ago. I immediately took S-Off and rooted on the first day. I used the "Downgrade with H-Boot .98" to downgrade and all was smooth.
After some time and a lot of flashing, my phone became cluttered and started having weird issues. So a few days ago I decided to return to stock 2.3.4 with software version 6.01.XXX. I did that and have had nothing but trouble trying to reroot and get things back to what they were.
My confusion is that I still have S-Off after using PG32IMG to get back to 2.3.4 and I updated the software version to the latest (6.01.605.05 710RD) and I'm not too clear on how to reroot.
Since I already have S-Off, do I just have to flash a recovery and SU Binary? Or do I need to to downgrade or something else?
Thanks to all who respond. I'm sorry this is so noobish. :silly:
Since you are S off you are correct in just needing to flash a recovery and su zip.

That is all? No need to downgrade? Which Su would you recommend?

Hey guys, this is my first post. So don't smack me around to much. Lol. But I have a question. I just downloaded an update from HTC. Does any one know what this update is? My ego is rooted already. Should I go through with this or not? Thanks for your answers.

It says system update. Do you think it might fix my 4G issue. I think it said something like 3.29. I don't know. I might of read wrong.

Yep thats a update.

Yup, that's an OTA which will take away your root and make you re-root via UnrEVOked Forever.
Well, I getting a replacement DInc2 because of some hardware issue, and I was wondering that if they care if I am just S-OFF'd. I'm not running on any ROM's at all, completely stock rooted.
Would they charge me retail price for my phone if they see I was S-OFF'd?
Is there any kind of guide I can follow to get back S-ON?
Sorry, I'm not new at all to rooting, or replacements. It's just HTC phones I'm new to.
I sent back an s-off phone recently and they didn't do anything. Probably cause they never saw it. I'm not sure they would care if they did. If you used alpha rev then you can s on. Go to rootzwiki. Jcase posted instructions. Follow them to a T. If you used xtc clip then there is no way to s on.

Delete super user. I've never sent one back. But you want all proof of root taken off. So at a glance they will see it is stock.

Ohhh. And how would I do that? Titanium Backup?
Sent from my ADR6350 using xda premium
Here is a little info. Before you do an s-on. Do a recovery to an original ROM that can have SU removed. If you don't have one I am sure someone has one.
Make sure when you send your phone back in to remove your SD card. The majority of root information is stored on the card.
If there is a RUU available for 2.3 then just flash it via bootloader after you s-on.

Yes that is a simpler option.

I cant imagine that they hire people to play around with each phone that gets sent back.
They probably inspect the phone for physical damage, see if it turns on, and plug it into a machine to wipe while they replace the casing, and call the phone a refurb.

+1 I returned my tbolt for an inc2 and the bolt was s-off just flashed the stock ruu. they do a total reset of the phone anyway. they don't care
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda premium
I concur they don't care. Long as you don't send it back with cm7 or something running you will be fine
Sent from my Incredible 2 using XDA Premium App
Asked a guy that works for the phone replacement facility. Said as long as they can flash their stock software on it they don't care to look. It's when the computer can't flash and the phone has errors is when they have to dig into it and look for s-off
Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk
Even if you make a nandroid of the stock rom, you still need a custom recovery to restore it. Meaning unless you flash the ruu, your phone wont be stock

The replacement I recieved's firmware can not.be.downgraded for the S-Off root. With the software being 2.3.4, revolutionary will not root. All this.being said, i.have not been able to find a successful way to downgrade. I have tried all the ways I have found on XDA as well as google and the only one they said would work was Tacoroot and I havent been able to get my computer to get it to work.

Tell us where you are getting stuck, I got my dinc2 with the same setup you have and (after swearing a lot and crying a little) I got s-off and am now running ICS. We are here to help. Calm down and breath, the community here is very helpful. Also, read everything VERY carefully, if you don't do everything juuuuust right it won't work for you.

You can actually force SuperUser on with the SU zip file. But, you need to have an unlocked BootLoader.
You can unlock your Bootloader from HTC's DevSite.
There is also a video from someone on YouTube named FlamingAiro. The video was posted June 19th, 2012. It's SUPER easy once you understand.
I would link you but the forum prevents me because I have not made enough posts for outside links.

Ah, I appologize; I didn't see you rooted it. My browser glitched out for a second.
Enjoy the root!
Also, a good ROM that has ICS and Sense 4.0 is UKB Evolution 1.1. :3
I have that as well but I'm trying to decide whether to stick with CM10 or sense 4.0.....
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda app-developers app
I think that Sense 4 is a nice OS and that CM10 has a LOT of bugs. It is still in dev form.
Sense 4.0 for the DINC2 (Vivow) is MuCH more stable and has better response. Also, saves your battery.
So right now I have the cm7 rom on my dinc2 and wanting to change it to the new leaked ics rom but and stuck and need step by step help on how to do the whole process to achieve my phone to be in the new rom for the ics leak one by ninju15 ( I think I misspelled the user) but yea. Help me please!

OP. If you are running cm7 then you flashed it on your phone via recovery. It is the same process just flash in recovery. If you are doing UKB it opens aroma installer. Just follow the steps.

But thing is that I would have to go to downgrade to 2.3.4 or 2.3.3. What would happen if I get out of cm7? How could I? So that u could do the process. I didn't flash it, I installed cm7 to my phone so I could reboot anytime. When I delete it would my.phone go back to the sstock dinc2 rom?

Are you s-off or just htc-dev unlock? That will make a big difference and maybe why your having problems.
I am only HTC dev unlocked and ne'er to do the s-off to get the leaked rom workin. But the cm7 gets it to 2.3.7 but I think I need to downgrade. To get the s-off. I have a Mac though but I can use my friend's pc

Well then yeah, you'd need to downgrade the hboot to s-off. It isn't anything about the android version. Restore to your stock backup if you made one and relock and downgrade/s-off.
