Before I installed Darkside I rooted original 2.3.6 and backed it up with Rom Manager. My question is this right now I am trying to get to that original ROM I backed up and there is no problem with that other than I did flashed my modem as instructed in Darkside info. Now do I just restore from recovery menu or I need to restore + flash modem that I had before (btw what modem was there to begin with I do not know) And second thing about Darkside. Right now I see Darkside and Darkside evolution 2 so .... is it same thing ? Cause I was with Beta 2 ..then 3 then all sudden I see beta 4 yet it's Darkside ... not Darkside evolution 2 ... and on top of that I see 3 different modems to choose from ..... getting a bit confusing for me ....
All I want is my backup of rooted original with original modem on my device for a day or so ....then I'll go back to Darkside craziness I just want to test if my games will play better and battery life will do the same.
If my post a little crazy sorry I just all confused now.
P.S.
Is there a way to get original rom that I have backed up to look like ICS ..with Apex may be ? And I just love lock screen from Passion ICS ... how do I make one for my Galaxy S II T989 ?
Thank you guys !
First off, there's a q+a section, so post your questions there from now on.
I restore backups with different modems all the time; just make sure you are reformatting every time you flash a new rom. run this zip before you flash or restore

Questions go in the Q&A section
Oh snap ! was totally sure I am posting in it ! Thank you for your answer !
One more thing if possible. I am with ATT is there a modem that will work "better" with ATT or they are all the same ...and if they are why there is more than one instead just collectively agreed on one to use.
And any info on that ICS lock screen from Passion ICS anyone ? ( how to get one with T989)

After you have all the files you need on your SD Card...
1. Reboot to recovery.
2. Do a NAND BACKUP.
3. Flash Super Wipe.
4. Flash Kernel cleanser.
5. Flash Radio if needed.
6. Flash ROM.
7. Reboot.
Some ROMS needs to reboot again after 10 mins so read carefully.

Yes you Wipe Data/Factory Reset and Wipe Dalvik-Cache..
Restoring a Nandroid Backup
Step 1. Boot up to Recovery with VolumeUp+Power.
Step 2. Select Wipe then Wipe Data/Factory Reset and Wipe Dalvik-Cache.
Step 3. Press the VolumeDown button on the side of your phone to go to the first menu.
Step 4. Select Backup/Restore

4.Flash AOKP BUILD 25(Do i need to flash previous build before i flash buid 25)

Depends on what you're flashing. If you're just updating GAPPS or to a new version of the same ROM you don't have to do a full wipe. That'd be a hassle. Only wipe if they recommend it for the update, or you're switching to a completely different ROM.

Its meant to preserve your data but wipe the system for re-flashing.

You can restore user apps + data. I would stay away from restoring system data as it usually causes more problems than its worth. As a precaution I like to do a nandroid of the clean ROM before batch restoring with TiBU, because restoring lots of apps can mess things up and you don't wanna wipe and reflash because you borked a restore.

no and no
25 is the full rom (outside of gapps) and i think more current than milestone 3.
all you'd need to do is flash aokp 25 and then gapps.
Thanks very much guys i m going to try it right now and we ll see if i succeed..
How do I flash an ics rom on my gingerbread rooted t989???? We never I flash aokp it boot loops! I been out of the loop a while can someone please help me???
Each ICS rom in the development section typically provides flashing instructions specific to the rom. I suggest you find the rom you want to flash and follow instructions in the OP. Keep in mind since you are currently running GB and wish to upgrade to ICS, you will need to flash an IGS radio. General flash instructions are usually as follows:
1. Factory Reset / Wipe Data or flash Darkside Superwipe
2. Flash Radio
3. Flash Rom
4. Reboot
5. Let rom settle for 5-10 mins, Reboot again
6. Enjoy. If you get a boot loop at this point or phone freezes at this point, flash Darkside Cache Wipe (which wipes cache, dalvik cache, and fixes permissions)
There's no special stuff I have to do before is it just like flashing a gb rom???
Same process, nothing special.

I have a Galaxy S i9000 with darky v11 ROM which is in ICS.I tried to flashed it with JB rom of cm-10-20120906-NIGHTLY-galaxysmtd and it went into some sort of bootloop..(it goes to start and then CWM appears then samsung logo and then CM9 logo appears again and again) I did wipe cache, wipe data and dalvik cache first before flashing the CM10.
the situation lasted for about 15 mins and I realized that something is wrong.
I have no choice now but to take out the battery and enter recovery and then I make a restore, my current restore point is Darky v10.4.2 but the CMW is stucked to restoring boot
what should I do to fix this problem?
any help from you guys will be appreciated thanks.

I had the same issue. And I fixed it by manually getting into CMW by three button combo
Steps done..
1. Flash gb stock
2. Root it
3. Do factory wipe/clear cache/clear dalvik. Install cm 9 and go to CWM byt three button combo.
4. Do factory wipe/clear cache/clear dalvikInstall cm 10.. after selecting installation file I had a boot loop.
5. Did 3 button combo and got to CWM recovery and did actory wipe/clear cache/clear dalvik and selected cm 10 and second time it went fine.
6. Install gapps after finishing cm 10 install and do factory wipe/clear cache/clear dalvik cache
All working good now...
Kool stuff guys..any change log? Screenshots?
Thanks again for this amazing info

flash kernel with odin and reflash the rom
FIX and explanation how to go back and forth between CM9 and CM10 nandroid backups:
Same thing happens to me when I switch from CM9 to CM10 . I start flashing CM10 and about half the installation the phone goes into loop with cwm-samsung logo and so forth . I just pull the battery out and then I enter CWM again, wipe everything again and I flash CM10 again and gapps. The installation will succeed this time and the phone will boot. I think this happens because the partition method is being changed.
If you are on CM10 or an JB rom and want to restore CM9 or ICS nandroid backup, first wipe everything, flash the CM9 or ICS rom , let it boot and then go into recovery and wipe everything and then restore the ICS nandroid backup.
If you are on CM9 or an ICS rom and want to restore CM10 or JB nandroid backup, first wipe everything, flash the CM10 or JB rom , let it boot and then go into recovery and wipe everything and then restore the JB nandroid backup.
YOU NEED TO DO THESE STEPS BECAUSE ICS AND JB HAVE DIFFERENT PARTITION METHODS AND JUST RESTORING NANDROID WILL NOT CHANGE IT.
Close and delete this thread please this is development section.
How do I flash a new version of a ROM without re installing all my apps or contacts? For example if I have v1 of a person's ROM and they upgrade to v2, How would I flash the new version of the ROM without having to redo all my apps, contacts, email etc...?

Where he is right, you should still do a full wipe even when flashing the same rom if its a firmware upgrade, or major backend framework has been modified.
If you do a android backup prior to flashing, you can do an advanced restore of data only, from your nandroid backup, and all of your apps & data will restore just as it was before - while maintaining the integrity of the updated version of the ROM you use.
Super easy, super fast, super efficient.

clarify best clean install, ie what needs to be wiped
I posted in a different thread, "moment to epic now S3" asking basically what constitutes a full wipe when flashing a rom, or flashing mods. On my epic CWM it was pretty clearly stated in almost all OP wipe all 3, times 3. If not it was said wipe davlik and cache times 3. I'm using the twrp recovery and there are so many wipe options, and I don't know which ones are necessary for a clean install when flashing a new ROM. My phone was giving my so much trouble yesterday i wiped all but the external and flashed a stock rom, then odined a stock rooted to be back at square one. But I don't want to flash a new rom until I here from others the cleanest way to install. I noticed for flashing a kernel it said I had to fix permissions also? So I guess it seems less cut a dried, 3 options (with epic recovery) and before I start screwing around with my phone I wanted some clarification, for flashing roms, flashing modems, flashing mods...what needs to be wiped, or what constitutes a full wipe. I can't assume that a clean wipe means everything and if it doesn't well obviously that would be nice to not have to wipe internal card etc if i don't have to
thank you much
Hi all, I had flashed successfully before but wanted to flash to a JB rom. I wiped and flashed, but then it just keeps looping the Samsung load screen, then I see the loading bar... and it reboots and goes back to the loading bar... Did I mess something up? Or is it suppose to do this the first time?
Sometimes it gets as far as the t-mobile 4G screen and the loops back again...
Thanks
What did you wipe?

And what did you wipe with?
If you used an older clockwork mod recovery, you probably need to update your recovery or get one of the updated wipe scripts on this forum.

I tried to flash Infamous S2 as well as Jedi Mind Trick. After more reading, I also flashed the "wipe" zip file that was linked. After I flashed that clean wipe, all is well. For some reason when I did the usual wipe wipe (with CWM), stuff probably didn't get over written.
All is well and working smoothly now with Jedi Mind Trick

it's a combination of how partition gets accessed vs custom recovery(in this case type of wipe) that cause that bootloop.
Provided you didnt have a bad download(.zip bein flashed) If it's a custom ROM suffice to say u need Darkside super wipe.
Unless its a stock (modded) ROM then Infamous super wipe is the way to go.
Hit thanks if/when it helped.
