Hello guys, my girlfriend has the Samsung GSII T989 for tmobile and tmobile carrier.
Her mom cancelled the 4g plan because it was too expensive for them, but she had the previous 3g plan. Is there a way to use the 3g network instead of the 4g network????

I believe only 2G/4G work on this phone, sorry for the inconvenience.
Aww man, cant you force it to use the 3g data instead of 4g D: !! aww man
Tmobiles 4G is 3G....its HSDPA short for high speed data packet access. I don't believe T-Mobile sells data by "speeds", she either has data access or she doesn't. What I think is going on is she got her data plan downgraded to a lower tier and she had already gone over her allotment and is now throttled

Ok re edit my post. She was on the old plan with no 4g data because her old phone didn't support it, but now she got the phone with this 4g does it mean she has to upgrade her plan for the internet with 4g data???

No, there is no 4G. Whatever data she has is all tmo offers. It's just that some phones are capable of running faster than others.

Depends, did she have a smartphone prior to T998? If not then the T-Mo sales rep should have upgraded her at the store, same thing online or over the phone. All smartphone data plans work the same, they offer a certain amount of data at "4G" speeds (200MB, 2G, 5G, or 10GB) but afterwards she will be throttled (meaning she will experience dial-up speeds). However if she did not have a smartphone before and her data plan has not been upgraded (which is unlikely) then she will have to upgrade her data plan.

I think he refers to the Android internet required for smartphones. If a user does not have that data plan then data will not function properly. The old data plans are what flip phones used to use....

Did ever get your sgs2 to work on simple mobile? I'm really hating Tmobile right now, cos they keep changing my payment due dates. Before it was the 30th, then 29th, then 25th, then 21st, and now they changed it again to 19th....
Because of this, i'm really planning on switching to simple Mobile. But, how is it working for you? HSPA+ Data speeds ok? is it capped?
Well simple mobile uses tmo as a network backbone.. Just an fyi.

I've been on simple 2 months now yeah I got it working my sim went bad I had it in my pocket and I guess I did something to it got replacement and everything works well all u have to.do is change the apn but speeds are the same as if.on T-Mobile that's on the 60 dollar plan not sure if 40 one willl work just as fast if it.does I'm paying 20 bucks more for nothing
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
Awesome...so whatever speeds i'm getting right now with tmobile i should be getting as well with Simple.
Another question, does Simple throttle you if you use too much data? I tried to find an answer to their website but couldn't find anything.
Simple is far more restrictive of their data usage and you get no roaming.
With Monthly4G you get voice/text roaming but no data roaming. higher data caps too. I would go with Monthly4G
Yeah they do but I'm not so.much of a data hog I use less than 2 gigs for a daily use phone its nice I use wifi when ever possible, they throttle after 2gigs , and for 2
Months I haven't had an issue for the price and no contract I like it

I think your right. Simple mobile is just reselling the T-Mobile $60 2gig plan by calling it an unlimited plan. This is technically true, as they don't ever cut off your data, they just throttle it.

Well, sprint is a bit of a pain when it comes to altering their plans. Basically, if he gets a plan with sprint, he will probably have to sign up for the 4g plan. It sucks cause so little of the USA is covered with 4g. I've heard of people flashing to different carriers, this may be a possibility for him as they'll probably be less expensive.

New to the gnex here. I did some searching and found some threads about switching the normal data plan that most of our ATT phones get stuck with over to the 4g hspa+ plans. It looks like a bit of a pain since I don't know anyone with a 4g phone to swap sim cards into (I do still have my iPhone 4s but not sure if att will fall for me giving them that imie to add back onto the account). So my question is: is it really worth it to have my data plans switched?
Thanks!!

Recently I have been getting an extremely unreliable 4g connection and my 3g connection isn't much better. I called Sprint several times but they offered me no resolution except to "feel free to roam until we fix the towers in your area". So I turned off 4g and set my phone to automatically allow roaming. This month I had to download nearly 80 GB of images off of a cloud service because my subscription was about to expire. Right now my only internet connection is through my phone, so I tethered it to my PC in order to download the files.
It turns out I was roaming the entire time and I have roamed around 97.4 GB in my most recent billing cycle. Do you think they are going to terminate my contract? Or do you think I will get off with a warning?

I was actually getting unusually fast 3g speeds. I think I was roaming on Verizon's network and there is a tower very close to me.
If you were in Europe your carrier would charge you a mere $237,000 dollars for that!

I say this because extreme roaming data usage will grab attention and they will sort through IP's, just letting you know that as it just happened to my cousin. He hit 78G in data roaming and they found out he was using his phone for PC gaming while on vacation. And yep he is paying for it right now.
How is that even possible? I've been told if over half of your usage is roaming you will be disconnected. Even though Sprint claims roaming is unlimited.

it's in terms and conditions of the contact. They hold the right for excessive roaming.
And if they determine that you're tethering without paying, they'll claim fraud.
Not that I care, just the lil lady works for sprint and sees it frequently.

I thought they weren't allowed to annoy you about using tethering apps without paying for it?
Wasn't there a court case on this a while ago?
that case was for blocking apps. doesn't mean you don't still have to adhere to TOS and pay for tethering.

Doubt it. The Sprint website says you have unlimited roaming 3g so the amount roaming should be irrelevant. Don't admit to tethering.

You don't get what I am saying... If you do not pay for tethering, and your use this much data, they could charge you for the data used.
I don't see how you think it is okay to use that amount of data tethering to another device when you do not pay for tethering on your account.

Oh no they'll cancel you contract when you don't pay that big bill. But yes you will have to pay for services rendered which is tethering and data used beyond the 5gigs given for tethering.
But like I said earlier carriers are not stupid and they will come after you and they know places lime this and could link your statement here as proof bit they really won't need that once they drop the IP bomb that will tell them what devices where used via your phone. Trust me they can tell but no system.is bullet proof so they cannot block it as some apps pull info via desktop browsers calls and a blanket block would kill those. So they just tag all the over the top users, especially when roaming is envolved.

one reason the 4g coverage sucks and the 3g speed is a joke....Att 3g speed is just as fast as verizons 4g coverage here when i do get it....
Here's a funny fact about att you probably dont know. After 3gb a month on unlimited grandfathered. They throttle you to 2g speeds. Enjoy.

He's right, though- HSPA+ (what AT&**** claims is 4G) gets around the same download speeds as LTE... In general. LTE wins with ping and upload every time though. And HSPA+ really only makes it to 10-15mbps down, whereas my LTE down record is 64 mbps.

This really is a first world problem haha... But Verizon vs. AT&T is a no brainer for me, especially when Verizon's LTE is held to FCC equality standards (among other things, Verizon cannot throttle you on their LTE, AT&T of course, can).
Why do you think they guy you want to trade with wants unlimited on Verizon?
