htc one x overclock - HTC One X

is this possible right now

Right now no, but possible. I see no reason why you would want to overclock it.

Why? Battery life under load isn't great, and the thing overheats as it is

Bench marks mean nothing in the real world, also when running 4 cores It's limited to 1.2 GHz, 2 cores 1.4 GHz and 1 core 1.5 GHz
Be a better idea to work out how to remove this limit.

That seems to be the T30 version of the Tegra 3. As far as I know, we are using the T33 revision of Tegra 3, and are able to hit 1.5GHz on all cores under load. Might be wrong, but that's what I've read, we're using a new revision of Tegra 3.

i think you would be better off overclocking the gpu since the four cpu`s will be enough to run any game for the foreseeable future. i remember seeing a post saying that the could run the gpu at 600mhz and score 80+fps in the opengl egypt 720p offscreen benchmark. also the asus transformer prime has overclock and at 1.7ghz(reported stable) will hit over 14000 in antutu taking into account the higher res screen.

Nothing new since May????

Xperia PLAY or HTC Sensation XL

Play or XL. Getting a bit bored of the PLAY now
The Sensation XL has a hideous design, its dpi is so low it reminds you of a low end phone, and it's got nothing over any dual core phone out there. Save your cash for something else, because HTC has put out a lot of garbage and underwhelming hardware in 2011.
The same CPU with different clock frequency
Get a windows phone or iphone. You wont see a massive difference by just switching to another android

we are talking about the sensatio xl wich does not have dual core.
Sensation XL is 1.5ghz SINGLE CORE with Adreno 205.
so hes correct, its basically a bit higher clocked than the play and thats it.
as far as a few web searches is able to tell me anyways.

I think it will get better and better with the next updates, newer/better kernel etc.. I think the One X isn't on it's best yet, due to software/kernel/drivers etc..
When I just had my One X, I had a score of 5000 @ Quadrant, at 2.05 I had 5500, with 2.15 I get ~5800.. I think the One X will reach the 6000 points too (whitout custom overclocking)
and not every app is optimized for 4 cores..

If you look at the X vs XL quadrant benchmark than you can see the X beats the XL in CPU but the XL really beats the X in memory, the other ratings are more or less similar BUT most apps don't even make use of the 2 cores on the desktop let alone 4 on a phone. In the real world the XL is faster and much more energy efficient.
Android is optimized for dual core phones not yet quad core optimized. Probably key lime pie will be quad core ready. We have to wait to see awesomeness on tegra 3. HTC One S wins in some 3d/2d benchmarks because resolution is lower than one x not because of snapdragon s4 is much better than one x
Tegra has the advantage of having games written specifically for it. I doubt the S4 variant will get the same treatment.

Not that I have tried it but with chainfire3d you can play tegra games on non tegra devices
I have owned both and in my experience the s4 variant is slightly smoother in basic ui navigation but gaming is subpar compared to tegra 3 variant. Imo the tegra version isnt used to its fullest due to lack of up to date kernel and driver optimizations so with the right update it should win in all aspects. Perhaps with 4.1 mainly due to the Nexus 7 using the same chipset and JB is optimized for it

Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
^ yes tegra 3 has core-gating along with clock-gating, so basically to save power unused cores can be shut off completely or downclocked. Thats why in single core mode tegra 3 in 1x can go upto 1.5ghz and 1.4ghz in full quad mode when all the four cores are stressed..

how can i limit cpu frequency and core??

hi i want to imited cpu frequency and core
exp: use single cpu core and limit it speed under 1GHZ
Root your phone AND look for set CPU in market ,u can adjust doped as you want but it may affect performance if you go very or very low

Actually you can't force it to use only one of the main cores it will always use 2 you can force it to use the power save core but that will make your phone basically unusable.
There is an app called core control made by meltus which let's you turn off cores.

HTC like all other companies design their software around the hardware,so it was designed with a QUADCORE in mind, gaming or other ,and NO! SIMPLE TASKS WONT RUN SMOOTH BECAUSE IT WAS DESIGNED TO RUN ON QUADCORE AS WELL!

I dont think "it isnt designed to" is good argument here. It isnt designed to run cyanogen mod or miui or whatever either, but somehow its doing just fine. It wasnt designed to record videos @ 30fps, but look, now it does, i could go on and on about things it "isnt designed" to do but it does Either way you cant run 1core for now, minimum 2, and as i said earlier im doing it right now and no lags, even games are smooth.

Same here. I use two cores for gaming, simple tasks, and it doesn't lag at all. On Dead trigger, I'm getting 30-40 fps on two cores. The battery is much better when using 2 cores than 4 cores.

I've choosen my hox for design, big and beautiful screen, great camera, great software AND it has a quad-core. I never choose a phone by its technical specs alone, so disabling 2 cores is not such a pity in my case.

I didnt buy hox just because its quad core, if u did, thats funny. And just because i turned off 2 cores now, doesnt mean i cant turn 2 back on when i need the power boost. It litterally takes 5 seconds. Answering to other queation, yes, there is such mod in development section, sense only though.

Why can't the tegra 3 be overclocked?

Hi there. I rooted my nexus 7 last night and flashed the cm10.1 rom with faux 123 kernel and been able to oc it to 1.7.
Why can't we have kernels that oc and uv efficiently like other phones and tablets?
And finally the at&t has an s-off why can't we?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Because the battery will melt.
No s off because we have tegra chipset, at&t has an qualcomm chipset which is easier to crack.
Sent from my One X using xda premium
What fo you mean the battery will melt? Othervdevices can handle this.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
If you want that your battery runs out after an hour of use, go ahead and OC
Sent from my One X using xda premium
Why would you want to., just for some stats.?
Not necessary at all...
Here GPU @ 520 Mhz all the power u will need
The nexus 7is a larger device and has much better heat dissipation Than the one x.
By overclocking all you really accomplish is heating the device to thermal throttling levels quicker.
Meaning
1.5ghz for 10mins before throttle then 1.2ghz throttled
Or
1.7ghz for 3mins before throttle then 1.2ghz throttled
In this scenario by overclocking you gain an extra 200mhz for 3mins but because of the overclocking the device heats up and throttled earlier. Thus losing 300MHz vs stock for the next 7mins.
Because of the poor thermal dissipation it makes overclocking pointless

On stock 4 cores will run @ 1.2 ghz, so when you oc by 200 mhz you run 4 cores at 1.4 ghz
Though they did get an overclock that runs 4 cores at 1.5.
The cpu thermal throttle kicks in at 85c and will shut down the phone at 90c.
Battery classes as "over heating" when it hits 48c.

That was just an example.
