Hey guys,
My arc S has a screen defect and I'm going to get it replaced/repaired under warranty so what should I do before I hand it in? I'm going to relock my bootloader and flash a stock firmware file. Anything else?
(BTW guys, I have a black arc S atm do you think ill be able to convince them to give me a white one if the phone does get replaced which it probably will have to)
as u r going to relock the bootloader and flash a stock firmware, i guess its enough..do install few apps just to make them believe that u were on stock since u bought it
I dont think they will give you a new phone..they will replace the screen ,not the phone..so white arc s is out of the picture ..anyways u can try and ask them if its possible..but i highly doubt
All the best

i was just wondering if i void my waranty if i flash a rom which i already did is there a way to undo it im a noob of course
Technically, Yes. As soon as you hardspl it, you void your warranty. But theres of course a wayy around it. When it comes time that you would need to do a warranty exchange of any kind, you can flash the original SPL and ROM. The first post on this thread has the files attached to restore the stock SPL. and then you can always get the origianl stock ROM. just do a search on google specific to your carrier. If its att, i can provide you a link. Let me kno
And BTW, since you have already flashed the custom ROM and HardSPL'ed it, might as well enjoy it till the day comes when u might have to warranty exchange. It doesnt make any difference now
Ive actually had to return my device for warranty exchange. The relocker and original ROM MUST be installed or ATT (If thats who u use) will charge u around $400.00 for the device. I dont think HTC has the original ROM anymore yet there r many ppl on here who have it. Me being one.

Well i recently had to send my phone back and it was Hard-SPL and flash to an different rom all i did was flash back to T-mo ROM and package it up. But i heard if your phone been tampered with they wuld send you a notice and charge you the price of the phone like you said.. but at the same time i don't believe it cause i tampered with my T-mo shadow 3 time and left it with the cooked rom and nothing happen.
Just to be on the safe side flash back to the original ROM, and don't forget to remove your memory card. ^_^
Technically... yes. But I have sent back 3 phones so far (one original Tilt and two Fuze's) with non OEM ROM's installed and have yet to have an issue. Not saying that it won't happen but when it's a hardware issue and not a software issue, I don't think that can be argued.
Although anything could happen!
Hello,
first off I'd like to thank all active members of the forums... great to have a place to come to to get acquainted with what Android has to offer
Now down to business... I just got my first Android phone (obviously a Motorola Defy ). I have read quite a bit on how to root the phone and on the different custom roms (CM7 and MIUI). Although I have never rooted or flashed the phone I am pretty confident I could do it after seing some of the tutorials... but here are my questions:
(1) I heard in a german forum (I am from Germany) that you lose the warrenty on your phone if you root it or custom flash it. And even if you flash back a stock froyo they can still tell it was rooted previously and can refuse warrenty.
Is that true?
(2) What are the advantages specificly for the Defy with a custom rom other than "Deblurring" it. I personally don't really have a problem with blur... I don't think it looks to bad and it seems to run fairly smoothly (although this is my first android phone so I don't have any comparison).
Here are some various topics I have picked up on but would like clarification:
- Camera recording in full screen resolution 800x454 (or whatever the res was)
- HD video playback
- possibility to overclock the CPU (easily to 1ghz and higher)
- fixing the lcd brightness bug in froyo to unlock full screen brightness
Those are some of the topics I have picked up on but am not entirely sure about the what's and how's concerning rooting/flashing your phone.
If it were just the motoblur and you would lose your warrenty I wouldn't root / flash my phone. But if you don't lose warrenty and/or all those advantages are true and can be achieved after rooting.... I just might
Ps: One last question how exactly can I tell if I have the red or green lens... I looked at the lens and I can't really tell a color? (Or is this maybe only for US phones?)
Thanks again everyone.

1. It is very convenient to get back the warranty. Just flash the full sbf for your country before giving your phone back to moto. I think it is rather hard to brick the defy. So, I suggest you to learn how to flash sbf before root your phone.
2. It depends on everyone's choice. Rooting can give you space to customize your phone. You can just try to flash some custom roms such as cm7 or miui to compare which one is better.
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
rooting is reversible process..u can also unroot it..and in case of flashing, u can always go back to ur stock ROM..moto ppl wont come to know the past of ur mobile..
custom ROM makes ur defy faster, smoother, will give great performance..great battery life, etc. its worth trying out custom roms..
before starting anything, u can download ur stock sbf(links can be found in this forum), keep it in a safe place, and start the rooting and installing custom rom..if somethings happens to ur phone, u can easily flash ur stock rom back and give it to moto service centre
and in case of lens color, try to see the centre of the lens with the help of torch or see in brightness or something.. i m sure u will surely see red or green color

Yes, it looks like a very common question, but I used to own HTC-Wildfire once.
After installing custom ROMS, I have problems with battery malfunction. Untill now, I cannot fix it even if I brought a new battery.
I had purchased HTC One X, before I have found that the official ROM is not the best. I would like to try CUSTOM ROMS, but I'm afraid that it will make my mobile phone out of warranty.
However, I heard that after unlocking bootloader, we can lock it again and install an official ROM but the status of the phone will show " re-lock " instead of lock.
That means someone will know that I used to unlock it.
What do you think about this? Can I do it and also make it restore as untouched when my phone need fixing?
Thank you in advance.

It will show re-lock, and I guess this is the purpose.

Your phone will still be in warranty in case of any hardware defects however should you break your phone as a result of flashing firmware then HTC will not assist you.
Yes, I believe that ANY rooting (and therefore ROM changes) voids the warranty of ANY phone however there are ways of unrooting your phone so that it appears completely unrooted.
Here's one method that may work: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=900875
However if you use a program such as superoneclick, ginerbreak, etc then an unroot feature is often included.
I believe that these methods don't leave an obvious trace, thus allowing a warranty claim to be made.

That means if something wrong to my phone such as the screen is broken, I can still claim it, right?
If it is, I will begin to unlock my phone and install other ROM doubtlessly.

I had to send my HOX back to the shop because of a dodgy touchscreen. Of course, I had already installed ARHD so I was faced with the same issue. I reinstalled the proper RUU and relocked my bootloader. The shop accepted my RMA after finding the defect and told me that they had sent the phone to the HTC Service Center. So as of now the phone is wherever that is awaiting repair. The jury is still out as to whether they will investigate if the bootloader is relocked. I don't think it will be an issue, but I will report back as soon as I get word!
Cheers,
Mathieu
ps - I will change my signature as soon as I get my HOX back...
HTC will still honor warranty claims even if your phone was unlocked via HTCdev. The lcd on my One X decided that it would display the screen whenever it wanted to and not when I did. I called HTC and opened a ticket, shipped it to them, paid their slightly frustrating $20 USD handling fee, and now it's in repair with nothing else I need to pay.
This is with a unbranded HTCdev unlocked phone that had at least 4 different ROMs flashed as well as 2 kernels.
As far as your question of dodging the RE-LOCKED screen:
Until someone finds a way to S-OFF, we're stuck with it. But believe me that RE-LOCKED looks a whole lot better in HTC's eyes than TAMPERED.
If all you want to do is flash ROMs, just do it the HTC provided way.
Unless you manage to fry your phone by overclocking to 2.5ghz or overvolting, you'll be fine if the phone breaks.
Hi guys,
Just an update. I just received an email in which I was informed that my HOX has been repaired/replaced (I wonder which it is?). So either they didn't check the bootloader (or any secret log files of what has been installed) or they just didn't care. It would seem to have gone well...
Hi!
Can i do a full backup my stock HOX? Maybe later if i need to use the warranty.
Can i restore the stock firmware and locked bootloader, so will be still warranty again?
How can i do this? Unfortunately, i can't find the answer for these questions.
You can do a nandroid backup to restore stock Rom ....but you can't show bootloader as locked...if you want to relock it it will show relocked....if you want warranty ...you could hard brick the phone...by flashing a kernel for another phone ...so theyll have to change the motherboard for free,or they will give you a new one...
Thank you for your fast answer!
But they can't see any log file in the HTC warranty service? The motherboard will completely breaks down?
I'm not really sure ...but I read that other people did that
So i have a arc s that wont turn on and i need to bring it back.. when i plugged in the charger its just an orange color on the led
i know that theres no SUS anymore so i need another way to make it alive again..
any software, guide, instructions will be appriciated..
sorry dont have the time to search becuase im in a hurry and im on my z1 when i posted this..
I think the best way to resurrect it is to flash stock firmware (new to this ROM game but have already had to resurrect mine twice by returning to stock).
Hope these help.
